Malay Lacewing

These butterflies are gorgeous! But I found relatively little information about them.  The larvae, Cethosia hypsea, because of their appearance, are often referred to as red wine caterpillars. Lacewings inhabit tropical rain forests and are found only in tropical climate zones. They have toothed edged wings, sawtooth like wings on the hindwings. The color of the dorsal wing surface is bright orange red with wide, pronounced black borders, while the ventral side is orange red with white bands and black dots or stripes forming remarkably intricate patterns.

The wing borders are dark colored and deeply indented with a lace like pattern of white marking. Adult colors are lighter in color to warn predators that they can be poisonous.  Individual females have a slightly yellowish white patch on the dorsal side and the color of the wings is paler. They fly quite slowly, around flowering shrubs such as Lantana camara¸ Stachytarpheta indica, Ixora javanica and Leea indica.

    1. Morning, Pat! Had more rain overnight, got up 25 minutes ago and put GT’s food out with the door open – showed up and chowed down w/in 5 minutes – it was too dark to see when I propped the door open but GT must have been nearby watching…this time, he came in with the inside light on! 1. Speaking of Elon….did you know about the horrific experiments they performed on monkeys for his brain implant? Awful!!! Certain aspects of him are pure evil, IMO! And now they have approval to start experimenting on humans!!!

“Elon Musk denied claims that Neuralink’s monkey test subjects died as a result of its brain implants — but Wired points out some documents that suggest otherwise.”

EXCERPT: “Elon Musk said earlier this month that “no monkey has died as a result of a Neuralink implant,” but an alarming new report from Wired seems to contradict Musk’s statement. Public documents obtained by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and seen by Wired indicate that Neuralink’s macaque subjects were euthanized after suffering various complications, including “bloody diarrhea, partial paralysis, and cerebral edema.”

Wired writes that the documents show a male monkey was euthanized in March 2020 “after his cranial implant became loose,” with the necropsy revealing “the failure of this implant can be considered purely mechanical and not exacerbated by infection.”

On Tuesday, Neuralink announced it’s starting in-human trials for people with quadriplegia.

The PCRM is a nonprofit that advocates against using live animals in testing that sued UC Davis to get the documents from the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC), a bioresearch facility at the school where testing took place. Those are now posted on its website and cited in the letters it sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday accusing Musk of securities fraud, referencing the reported $280 million Neuralink has raised from investors to create a brain computer interface. A spokesperson for UC Davis declined to comment to Wired….”

I do understand the extraordinary benefits such a thing could conceivably bring to some but I still don’t approve of messing around in the brain like that – it is simply a form of AI, which IMO is a very bad thing! Bottom line, they are talking about melding machine and human – nope, nope and NOPE!

  1. insanity in houston. rapist gets a $1 bond
    entire article
HOUSTON – A Houston man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl was issued a $1 bond by a Harris County judge on Wednesday.

Luis Sanchez, 25, is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.

According to court documents, in April 2022, the teenage girl and her siblings went over to Sanchez’s north Houston home to play games. While there, records say Sanchez gave the teen a drink of Smirnoff. He then apparently told her siblings to go home but said the teenage girl could spend the night.

The 16-year-old girl later told authorities she passed out after drinking the Smirnoff and woke up naked in the bed next to Sanchez.

Records reveal that the girl found out she was pregnant three months later. A DNA test confirms Sanchez is the father.

Sanchez was arrested in May 2023, more than a year after the alleged rape. He’s now been charged with felony sex assault of a child.

Legal analysts say the low bond is because Sanchez was not indicted within a 90-day window of his arrest, as required by law.

“At that point, a lawyer can go to the district court, judge, cite that statute and say, your honor, at this point, we would like to ask the court to follow the law and to now appoint bail that’s either a PR bond or a bond that somebody can make,” explained Todd DuPont, a legal analyst.

“If the State misses that deadline, then unfortunately for the state at that particular point, the court has to address what is a reasonable bond for this case,” DuPont continued.

So, what qualifies as a ‘reasonable bond?’ According to DuPont, it’s the most amount of money a defendant swears they can afford.

“If a dollar is all this person has and swears to it, the person has to fill out a financial affidavit, swearing to their financial status,” DuPont said.

In a statement, the Harris County District’s Attorney Office said,

“Mr. Sanchez remains charged with felony sexual assault of a child and, if he is released on bond, he will remain under house arrest with an ankle monitor and an exclusionary zone regarding the victim and other children. // The District Attorney’s Office is continuing to investigate this case as well as potential cases involving this victim and others in at least two counties.”

As of late Thursday afternoon, court records show that Sanchez remains in jail.

His next court date is set for November.

i’m highlighting the stupid houston law loophole. if the police do not charge within a certain 3 month period (not clear how that’s figured) then regular bond rules do not apply and the “criminal” testifies to what HE CAN AFFORD TO PAY and that’s what bond is set at.

  3. As I was reading this, a vision came to mind of ONLY having “freedom of speech” as long as we are not using technology, IOW, face-to-face, in person only. After all, if we are using THEIR phones and THEIR computers…..we are just purchasing a license for the use of that technology when we buy it…and even if people invent their own mechanism, the air waves are controlled as well. The phone lines, the internet lines, etc., etc. – ALL owned by the government or corporations….

    https://www.activistpost.com/2023/09/today-the-uk-parliament-undermined-the-privacy-security-and-freedom-of-all-internet-users.html

Our Take: “The long-awaited Online Safety Bill that the British Government has been drooling over will soon become law. The bill sets “tougher standards” for social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and TikTok.

The U.K. Parliament claims that the bill will make the U.K. ‘the safest place’ in the world to be online. To translate—because I’ve become quite fluent in globalist b-ll sh-t—what they meant to convey is that the OSB will lead to a much more censored, locked-down internet for British users, it will also establish a precedent for other nations that have been infected by the Western hegemon.

Of course, it’s all happening as Russell Brand is being targeted by State Media and the British Government. They even tried to get Rumble to deplatform Brand, which they have emphatically rejected. It also comes as our censorship regime here at home is ramping up its efforts in the lead up to the 2024 election season. This is only the beginning.” — Ryan DeLarme

  4. Wonderful! Replace the oh-so-woke Miley with an out-and-out racist!

EXCERPT: “As Post Millennial previously reported, Brown, amid the nationwide riots in 2020 following the death of George Floyd, released a video in the days leading up to his confirmation vote in the Senate, saying “I’m thinking about how full I am with emotion not just for George Floyd, but the many African Americans that have suffered the same fate as George Floyd.”

“I’m thinking about protests in ‘my country ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty,’ the equality expressed in our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution that I have sworn my adult life to support and defend. I’m thinking about a history of racial issues and my own experiences that didn’t always sing of liberty and equality.”

Brown was also featured in an Air Force recruiting ad that aired during the 2021 NBA finals, in which he said, “When I’m flying, I put my helmet on, my visor down, my mask up. You don’t know who I am, whether I’m African American, Asian American, Hispanic, white, male or female. You just know I’m an American airman, kicking your butt. I’m General C.Q. “Homicide suspect accidentally released from Indianapolis jail, manhunt underway — “This was an error,” Col. James Martin said. “This should not have happened.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ PostMillenial: “A suspected killer is on the loose after being accidentally released from a detention center in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 13. Kevin Mason, 28, walked out of the Marion County jail two days after being arrested in connection with a 2021 murder in Minneapolis, as well as a parole violation and firearms possession. Authorities were quickly made aware of the mistake and launched a “round-the-clock” manhunt, however the public was not informed until six days later.

According to CNN, there were three holds on Mason’s file, one for each warrant. A Marion County sheriff’s clerk believed she was amending duplicate bookings for Mason and removed two of the holds, and the following day, a Minnesota clerk did away with the third. The pair have since been fired, and an internal investigation has been launched to determine how the mistake was made.

“This was an error,” Col. James Martin said. “This should not have happened. Mason should not have been released from our custody.” He justified the decision to wait to tell the public about Mason’s release by saying authorities wanted to maintain a “tactical advantage” by tricking the 5’9 205 pound inmate into believing he was home free. “We have used this time as the quietness of the situation to not further run him underground and send him running further than what we wanted him to,” Martin explained.

The colonel pointed out that authorities “do not have any information that leads us to believe that the public is in any immediate danger at this time,” but urged people not to approach Mason “in any form or fashion.”

On Wednesday, a woman believed to be Mason’s girlfriend was arrested on suspicion of helping him escape. After being released, he allegedly called her for a ride. She has “not cooperated” with authorities, and is being held without bond.”

  6. I did some searching and I think I may have found the issue…posted this at M’s:

EXCERPT: “In March, WordPress.com owner Automattic made a commitment to the fediverse — the decentralized social networks that include the Twitter rival Mastodon and others — with the acquisition of an ActivityPub plug-in that allows WordPress blogs to reach readers on other federated platforms. Now, the company is announcing ActivityPub 1.0.0 for WordPress has been released allowing WordPress blogs to be followed by others on apps like Mastodon and others in the fediverse and then receive replies back as comments on their own sites.

Since the acquisition, the company has improved on the original software in a number of ways, including by now allowing the ability to add blog-wide catchall accounts instead of only per-author. It also introduced the ability to add a “follow me” block to help visitors follow your profile and a “followers” block to show off your followers, noted Automattic design engineer Matt Wiebe, in a post on X.
    —————-
Other updates include a number of bug fixes, the completion of a security audit, and improved compatibility, including with the latest version of WordPress, 6.3.

At the time of its acquisition, the ActivityPub plug-in supported federated platforms including Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, HubZilla, Pixelfed, SocialHome and Misskey. It had then been downloaded 35,000 times according to its statistics page. Now, that number has increased, as the page shows its all-time installations are at 42,831.
    —————-
For the time being, the software supports self-hosted WordPress blogs, but Wiebe teased that support for WordPress.com blogs was “coming soon.”

Automattic’s CEO Matt Mullenweg has been bullish on the promises of the fediverse — especially given the open source nature of its decentralized, interconnected server software. Late last year, for example, the CEO wrote that Tumblr would add support for ActivityPub, the protocol that powers Mastodon and other decentralized social apps. But more recently, Mullenweg told us he’s been investigating not only ActivityPub, but also other protocols like Nostr and Bluesky’s AT Protocol…”

WordPress blogs can now be followed in the fediverse, including Mastodon

  7. Well, I’ve apparently got 2 orange tabby’s living under my shed…I looked out and saw something orange on the ramp I use to drive my mower into the shed. Grabbed my binocs and saw 2 adolescent cats. I called kitty-kitty and they both perked up and came around the barrel to take a quick peek, before scooting back underneath the shed – not up for any interaction, clearly. I resisted the urge to take food to them. Marla was telling me yesterday that a lady who lives further east, catty-corner from Mardel’s house – she’s the one who fed all the cats that I’ve been trying to avoid drawing over here – has been feeding them in Mardel’s stead. LOL – I told her good, let her keep ’em!!!

    1. NF: And that was President Trump’s State Department who put the hold on Egypt!!!

“In 2018, Nadine Menendez and a business associate “worked to introduce Egyptian intelligence and military officials to Menendez for the purposes of establishing and solidifying a corrupt agreement” in which hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes would flow to the Menendez’s “in exchange for Menendez’s acts and breaches of duty to benefit the Government of Egypt.” This included military sales and military financing.

Menendez was targeted with the bribes because he was Chairman (or ranking member) of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which gave him substantial influence over money and arms flowing to Egypt. The State Department had issued holds on military financing to Egypt, totaling over $250 million, for Egypt’s human rights abuses. Instead of reforming their system, Egypt just paid off a US Senator. (His wife got a no-show job out of it.)”

    2. Probably what will happen….

“He’s looking at years in jail if convicted. While the evidence is damning, will it be sufficient for a New Jersey jury?

Maybe not. Recall that Menendez’s previous corrupt trial ended in a mistrial after the jury deadlocked. In that case, Menendez was alleged to have received more than $600,000 in political contributions in exchange for political favors.

That evidence was insufficient for some jurors to overcome their political allegiances. Just like in the last case, the vast majority of jurors will be Democrats. That fact alone may be enough for Menendez to escape justice.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “FAITHORN, Mich. (AP) — A 2-year-old girl who walked away from her home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula alongside two family dogs was found in the woods hours later sleeping on the smaller dog like a furry pillow, state police said. “She laid down and used one of the dogs as a pillow, and the other dog laid right next to her and kept her safe,” Lt. Mark Giannunzio said Thursday. “It’s a really remarkable story.”

Troopers used drones and police dogs in the search while local police and citizens from both Michigan and adjacent Wisconsin helped look for the girl in the remote wooded area. Troopers from Michigan State Police’s Iron Mountain post had been called to a home in the Faithorn area of Menominee County about 8 p.m. Wednesday after the girl wandered away.

Around midnight, a citizen on an ATV found the girl about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) from her home, state police said. Giannunzio said the girl was checked by medical staff and appeared to be in good health. Faithorn is an unincorporated village located just east of the Wisconsin state line and about 60 miles (97 kilometers) southwest of Marquette, Michigan.”

  11. so lemme get this straight…our gov’t funded $1.5 BILLION for planting trees…and yet gatesofhell is planning to eliminate hundreds out acres of trees because of CO2?
    What the hell?
    FTA
When the Senate debated the Inflation Reduction Act on Aug. 6, 2022, two Republican senators drew attention to an obscure provision buried in it.

“Their so-called Inflation Reduction Act is chock-full of Green New Deal spending; things like $1.5 billion — billion dollars — for a grant program to plant trees,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.).

“This is a good one because I know a lot of people are worried about this —$1.5 billion to plant more trees — whatever,” said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

The overall bill equally divided the Senate. Fifty senators voted for it and fifty voted against. Vice President Kamala Harris then decided the issue — casting her tie-breaking vote for it.

When President Joe Biden signed the 274-page bill into law on Aug. 16, 2022, it included this language on page 210: “$1,500,000,000 to provide multiyear, programmatic, competitive grants to a State agency, a local governmental entity, an agency or governmental entity of an insular area … an Indian Tribe, or a nonprofit organization through the Urban and Community Forestry Assistance program … for tree planting and related activities.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put out a statement last week bragging about how some of this money was being spent in San Francisco.

“Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi announced that San Francisco will soon receive $14 million in new federal funding to plant and maintain trees, combat extreme heat and climate change, and improve access to nature,” said the statement. “This funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service under Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act — the largest climate investment in history.”

“The San Francisco Bureau of Urban Forestry will receive $12 million to plant and establish thousands of street trees in low-canopy communities,” said Pelosi’s statement. “This will mitigate extreme heat and establish climate-ready neighborhoods.”
