National Collect Rocks Day

When my granddaughter was younger, one of the first crafts we ever did together was painting rocks.  We went out into the driveway to collect rocks for a “leaf with lady bugs on it” project.

We chose angular rocks for the leaves and smaller rounded pebbles for the lady bugs.  We hosed them off and let them dry and then started painting them.  She has hers sitting in the flowerbed outside her bedroom window.  I have mine on an end table in the great room.

Over the years, our projects evolved into sketching animals, painting jars and canvases, and other similar projects, but last summer we returned to the rocks. We hatched a brilliant plan to paint rocks with “inspirational” or “motivational” messages and place them in the little creek bank at the bottom of the driveway.  She thought they’d be cool for anyone visiting to see AND, she said, maybe they would get washed downstream during a thunderstorm and someone else might find them.

So, Project Rock Inspire was born.  We gathered a bucketful of rocks from along the driveway and washed them all and let them dry in the sun while we planned colors and messages. Our first session included things like SMILE, BE HAPPY, LAUGH, LIVE FREE, and BE THANKFUL.  Of the dozen we put in the bank, more than half remains.  But that means 5 have made their way on to other places.  We plan on placing more the next time she comes.

Hopefully someone will find one and wonder where it came from…

        1. sigh…..It crossed my mind and I put it aside to decide if that should ever come about. But probably not – I would do my best to gather them up and take them to the shelter in Norfolk, I expect, Mom included.

She was waiting outside when I got up but I decided I’m tired of the games and just put her food outside. I’m leaving it at that for now. We’ll see what happens as winter comes on.

              1. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s been hacked in some way, tbh, but more than likely, it’s a programming thing….I hope so! Some of the sites where I steal memes are on WP and I’ve not seen any difference but I just scroll and read, copying them as I go, and never comment.

The all Electric Car is a disaster for both the United Auto Workers and the American Consumer. They will all be built in China and, they are too expensive, don’t go far enough, take too long to charge, and pose various dangers under certain atmospheric conditions. If this happens, the United Auto workers will be wiped out, along with all other auto workers in the United States. The all Electric Car policy is about as dumb as Open Borders and No Voter I.D. IT IS A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DISASTER!

Judge Halts New York Attorney General’s Fraud Trial Against Trump

    Excerpt:

A New York appeals court judge halted the scheduled Oct. 2 trial in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ fraud lawsuit against former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, a spokesman for the court confirmed Thursday….

….President Trump’s lawyers had raised issue with Judge Engoron’s refusal to grant a request for a three-week trial delay, which he said (pdf) was “completely without merit.” They also asked the judge to pause the trial until he issues a ruling on the statute of limitations regarding certain claims in Ms. James’s lawsuit, it was reported…..

…..State Justice David Friedman, with the 1st Department of the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division, granted an interim stay of the trial—slated to start Oct. 2—and referred the matter to a five-judge panel, which expects to rule in the last week of September, a spokesperson said. He also ordered the full appeals court to consider a reported lawsuit that President Trump had filed against the trial judge, Arthur Engoron, on an expedited basis.

First reported by the Daily Beast, the lawsuit against Judge Engoron also asserted that the jurist is overstepping his authority. A state appellate court issued a ruling several months ago that asked the judge to determine which Trump Organization real estate deals are too old and beyond the statue of limitations.

  5. WH won’t decouple relief funds for Hawaii or areas affected by Idalia from ukraine slush fund
    FTA
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters at a White House press briefing a week ago Wednesday that the Biden administration will not decouple billions of taxpayer dollars going to Ukraine from relief funding for American victims of Hurricane Idalia in Florida and the wildfire on Maui which destroyed the town of Lahaina, in Hawaii. And nobody seems to care, least of all the mainstream media.

In response to a question from a reporter, according to The Blaze, she replied:

“Look, we see them both as incredibly important. I just laid out at the top what we saw happen in Ukraine: 16 civilians died.”

Yes, and at least 115 died in the Lahaina fire, and more are still missing. Hurricane Idalia killed three and caused many billions of dollars in damage. Both of those disasters afflicted Americans, and still Biden stuck to his “America Last” policy. I’m certain, however, that if fires and/or hurricanes ravaged Washington, D.C., Democrats would put forth numerous stand-alone spending bills to take care of their own. And probably take legal action against the fire and/or the hurricane for attempted insurrection.

  6. “Kiev orders closure of Christian churches — Ukrainian Orthodox Church property is being seized over “ties to Moscow”

(The Kiev Pechersk Lavra monestary complex in Kiev, Ukraine. © Getty Images / Douglas Keister)

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ RT 9/15: “Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko on Friday ordered the closure of 74 churches belonging to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), citing its alleged “direct ties” to the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. Klitschko’s decree is similar to that used to seize the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, or Monastery of the Caves, which Ukrainian police stormed last month. The world-famous holy site, which is nearly 1,000 years old, was handed over to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, a rival organization set up by the government in 2018.

The Lavra is technically state property but the church administered it under a 2013 agreement, which Kiev declared null and void earlier this year, claiming that the UOC violated it by having ties to “enemy nation” Russia. Ukrainian courts rejected the UOC’s appeals.

Back in March, President Vladimir Zelensky called the seizure of the Lavra “a move to strengthen our spiritual independence” and accused the UOC of being a tool of Russia. A third of Ukraine’s regions have outrightly banned the UOC so far.

Moscow has accused Kiev of persecuting the canonical Orthodox church and Washington for tacitly approving Ukraine’s actions. The US State Department, which produces an annual “religious freedom” report, has never commented on Kiev’s campaign against the UOC. The reports published so far contain references only to meetings with representatives of the government-backed OCU.”

“CA Assembly Passes Newsom-Favored, Tyranny-Flavored Call For Constitutional Convention To Ban Guns”
    P. GARDNER GOLDSMITH | SEPTEMBER 15, 2023

EXCERPT: “Culminating months of political maneuvering that justifiably leery Americans observed with suspicion, the California Assembly Thursday passed a resolution calling for a US Constitutional Convention to undermine the inherent right to keep and bear arms that the Second Amendment explicitly makes off-limits from infringement by all forms of government.

His pet political subversion would be called the “Twenty-Eighth Amendment,” and one particular report on the vote illustrates not only the dangerously deceptive way Newsom and his allies attempt to manipulate the language to mask their intent, it also sheds light on how some news outlets also participate in this vast form of often subtle propaganda.

Get ready, because the report from Taryn Luna, for the LA Times, is almost transcendent in its assumptive embrace of biased lingua in order to hide what actually is going on, and the deception begins in the editors’ choice of headline:…..”

  8. OK – a short, pleasant trip. Turning into a stunning day again! But still no ripe melons…been busy on some repair projects since I got back, first and foremost, my track ball mouse! Whoopee! I’ve got it back. Along the way I discovered a teensy, tiny little button underneath the flashing light – I pressed it and apparently it is a reset button. Guess I should have read the instructions, eh? Oh, well – it’s got a new battery now, too!

I also have a solar light in the moss roses in front that wasn’t working and I had brought it in yesterday to look at. I opened it up and no wonder! Full of water and some parts were rusted. So I used some WD40 and got it cleaned up and back out where it should be. The battery is relatively new and is good yet, thankfully, since I don’t have any more AAA rechargeables.

Gas was $3.64 at Meadow Grove but $3.89 in Norfolk! It’s also $3.89 in Pierce. Since it was early at WM, it was a breeze, particularly since I didn’t need a cart this time. Still massive stocking going on.

  10. we got back from the errands and lunch at the little diner. there was this older man in a Hawaiian type shirt standing on the edge of the parking lot of the diner near the street waving and smiling at EVERYBODY. we asked the waitress about him and she said he just started showing up every day for about an hour. rain or shine, he shows up and smiles and waves. then he leaves.
when we left the parking lot, I turned to him and smiled and waved–he looked happy someone smiled and waved back at him.
