The common morning glory is a favorite of gardeners everywhere for good reason. The eye-catching vines are very low maintenance—they can be easily started from seed in early spring, and you don’t need to prune or deadhead them as they grow. Have a trellis or other support in place wherever you plant your seeds and the vines will soon find the support and train themselves to grow on it.
With regular watering, morning glories can start blooming by mid-summer, but many times they are slow to begin setting flowers, earning them the nickname “back to school vine.” If you want to try and speed up the flowering time of morning glories you seed yourself, you can try sowing the seeds even earlier in the spring by scattering them on the frozen ground and even on snow.
Light
Planting your morning glory in a spot that gets full sun is especially important. The flowers will only open when they are in direct sunlight, so daily exposure to full sun (at least 6 to 8 hours a day) will give you the longest amount of bloom time. If they are in a spot that doesn’t get sun until the afternoon, don’t expect “morning” glories.
Soil
Morning glories do best in soil that is moist but well-draining. A neutral soil pH of 6.0 to 6.8 is best, but morning glories will grow just about anywhere. However, they do bloom better in soil that is not too rich in organic matter. You can always amend the soil later if the vines look like they are struggling.
Water
Provide your morning glories with regular water, about one inch per week, and mulch around the roots to retain moisture. The biggest moisture needs come during the plant’s growing period. Once established (and in the winter, if your zone is warm enough to grow the plant as an annual), you can slow your watering cadence.
Temperature and Humidity
Morning glories easily tolerate both cold and warm temperatures; they are hardy and can even make it through the first frost and continue to bloom. They are grown as an annual in areas where the temperature drops below 45 degrees Fahrenheit and can be perennials in tropical and subtropical climates. They have no special humidity needs.
Fertilizer
Feed your morning glories with a low-nitrogen fertilizer every four to five weeks throughout their growing period. If you notice a lack of blooms, you can try a fertilizer blend that is high in phosphorous.
Morning Glory Species and Varieties
In addition to cultivars of the common morning glory, there are other Ipomea species with similar appeal:
Star of Yelta: Deep purple blooms with dark red stars and small white throats

Kniola’s Black: Another purple-flowered cultivar but with blooms even darker than those of ‘Star of Yelta’

Heavenly Blue: A popular cultivar with large azure flowers and heart-shaped leaves

alba: Also called moonflower or belle de nuit; a night-blooming species with 6-inch-wide white flowers

multifida: Known as the cardinal climber; a hybrid with relatively small but deep red flowers resembling morning glory blooms

Morning All!

Morning, Pat! Woke up to light rain here, 64 so not too cold; GT was waiting when I opened the door – she scooted in and ate, then scooted right back out again. You would think she would like being out of the rain but I guess she’s just a Wild Thang at heart! LOL – I’ll be making a run to Norfolk later today.
Morning Glories are prolific climbers and some can be hard to eradicate – Mom planted some on a trellis in front of her old apartment 5 or 6 years ago and they are still going strong. I’m also considering putting some on the fencing across the south side of my shed where the raspberries were before.

Exactly my point! LOL – they don’t scare me as long as I see ’em! When I was in one of my first classes at basic training, I was sitting at the desk next to the wall. There was a gal named Mary Bales who was at the desk next to me and she drew my attention to a spider on the wall next to me. No doubt she thought I’d jump up screaming but I just reached up and smacked it with my hand. Done! She said right then and there, she decided we were going to be friends! Ironic, since she was the main one who turned on me when DS Corona (kinda sexy) & DS Johnson chose me as the next platoon leader instead of her. You spend a lot of time with the DS’s and she had a huge crush on Corona. She turned on me with a fucking vengeance and led an uprising against me with about 10 others (all black, btw – she was trying to be a “wigger”)! Talk about FUBAR!

This, the gun charge, is the only crime that Hunter Biden committed that does not implicate Crooked Joe Biden. One down, Eleven to go! The Democrats, with all of their horrible, very unfair, and mostly illegal Witch Hunts, have started a process that is very dangerous for our Country. They have opened the proverbial Pandora’s Box, and it is possible that the USA will never be the same again. SO SAD!!!

this IS puzzling. aoc lists this guy as her spouse on house ethics forms but her staff claims he’s not. IF he is, then he HAS to disclose his income, etc. If he’s not, then aoc has to answer for lying on the forms. so which is it? is he her “beard”? or is he a spouse who can’t testify against her?

“File The F*cking Motion”: McCarthy Melts Down After Gaetz Threatens Removal”
BY TYLER DURDEN
FRIDAY, SEP 15, 2023 – 04:44 AM
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has McFucking had it with GOP threats to remove him for failing to perform on a laundry list of demands from his party’s Freedom Caucus members. “If you want to file the motion, file the fucking motion,” McCarthy told GOP colleagues Thursday, after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) criticized him earlier in the week – giving him a list of demands while threatening to bring a motion to vacate McCarthy’s chair.
Gaetz and other Republicans have slammed McCarthy for dragging his feet on a Biden impeachment inquiry, which the Speaker finally announced earlier in the week. Gaetz, however, says this isn’t enough. McCarthy also faces another episode of shutdown theater, where Republicans pretend they won’t budge unless Democrats cut spending, or separate Ukraine funding from the stopgap bill, only to cave at the 11th hour in dramatic fashion.
“I showed frustration in here because I am frustrated,” McCarthy told reporters following the GOP meeting. “Frustrated with some people in the conference.” Gaetz fired back after McCarthy’s outburst. “Instead of emotionally cursing, maybe the Speaker should just keep his word from January on balanced budgets, term limits and single-subject spending bills,” he told The Hill.
That said, other GOP members are getting a little tired of Gaetz’s threats. “We don’t try to air our laundry but again, you know, to that point, if somebody wants to file a motion to vacate, then file the f—ing motion to vacate, and that’s it,” said Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL). “And stop holding up everybody’s work, stop holding it, you know, over people’s head like it’s, you know, like, it’s this noose that you’re going to try to get somebody to walk into.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a close McCarthy ally, also called out Gaetz for holding up a Pentagon appropriations bill on Thursday over demands that McCarthy present them with top-line figures for all 12 appropriations bills that are on the table.
“If we’re going to be able to do our job we need every single member in our conference to show up and face everyone else and then we can work out our differences and fund the government,” she said.”

From Badlands Media – Burning Bright always takes the optimistic route, while this guy is much more pragmatic so, of course, I like him better! LOL
Our Take: “It’s rare to see House Speaker Kevin McCarthy abandon decorum and, if it means he is feeling the pressure from the Freedom Caucus, it’s a good thing. McCarthy has yet to make good on his promises to balance budgets, impose term limits and require single-subject spending bills. It’s time the Speaker delivers.
Given the split on the speaker vote, the Freedom Caucus doesn’t have the votes to vacate the chair unless Democrats join, and that’s unlikely since McCarthy has been good for Democrats. That said, the public pressure on McCarthy to deliver on his promises is good, and Gaetz continues to be the single member of Congress who unapologetically stands with the people.” — Ashe in America

Ah! On the contrary: THEY are targeting Gaetz!!!
“Gaetz is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over numerous allegations of impropriety, including sexual misconduct, illicit drug use, sharing inappropriate images on the House floor, misusing state identification records, inappropriately using campaign funds, bribery, and receiving impermissible gifts.
In May, the ethics panel ended a two-year-long investigation into Swalwell over his ties to suspected Chinese spy Christine Fang by taking no action against the California Democrat.
However, the allegations of Swalwell’s relationship with Fang cost him his spot on the House Intelligence Committee earlier this year, with McCarthy accusing the lawmaker of undermining the panel’s “national security and oversight missions — ultimately leaving our nation less safe.”

Morning, Val! We’re all having issues lately. WP is going thru a major upheaval, apparently – re-doing their algorithms like recognizing x.com vs. twitter.com, I expect, and probably installing AI across their platform.
BTW, I posted a long comment last night towards the end at M’s blog – Piper called me and we talked for 35 minutes!!! I am soooo proud of her! She is singing the National Anthem over the mic at Homecoming tonight, playing in the band and cheer-leading – all at the same game! She is also competing in a singing contest in Lincoln where they pick the best singers in the state, I would assume broken down into regions. She’s done it for 2 years now – won once already! She sang the National Anthem and Amazing Grace to me over the phone and what a beautiful voice!!! She is singing AG at the contest. It’s in Lincoln so I probably can’t get down there but she will have her Dad e-mail me the video. She did invite me to come to the game tonight but I think it’s too soon for me to be coming face to face with her Dad. I mentioned that my back and butt would hurt (since I have no meat on my butt) but she said I could sit at the top with the railing to lean on and she would get me a cushion. It’s really heartwarming that it seems she really did want me to come.
The fact is, I need to eat some crow as far as my SIL is concerned; no-one can say he has not done a fine job of raising Piper – that I cannot deny. And I foresee a major meeting between the two of us soon. It is past time to put this BS to rest!

They didn’t so I proceeded with other plans. Some of those SOB’s are STILL coming up now! I’ve pulled 5 or 6 over there! They just don’t quit! And the vines are sooo strong – once they catch hold, it’s really hard to get them off.

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ RedState: “Hilarious: Granholm’s EV Road Trip Turns Into an Entitlement Clown Show, Family Forced to Call Police”

By Nick Arama | 6:30 PM on September 10, 2023
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm set out on a four-day trip this summer. The trip was to prove the worth of the Biden administration’s spending a ton on pushing and “investing” in electric vehicles. NPR’s Camila Domonoske went along on the trip and revealed, “Electric cars have a road trip problem, even for the secretary of energy.” What happened on the trip says everything about the Biden team’s delusion and entitlement. The trip revealed immediately that the system is not ready to handle even what they have to deal with now, much less with the number of vehicles that you would have to cope with with the complete switchover that they want.
But between stops, Granholm’s entourage at times had to grapple with the limitations of the present. Like when her caravan of EVs — including a luxury Cadillac Lyriq, a hefty Ford F-150 and an affordable Bolt electric utility vehicle — was planning to fast-charge in Grovetown, a suburb of Augusta, Georgia.
Her advance team realized there weren’t going to be enough plugs to go around. One of the station’s four chargers was broken, and others were occupied. So an Energy Department staffer tried parking a nonelectric vehicle by one of those working chargers to reserve a spot for the approaching secretary of energy. That did not go down well: a regular gas-powered car blocking the only free spot for a charger? In fact, a family that was boxed out — on a sweltering day, with a baby in the vehicle — was so upset they decided to get the authorities involved: They called the police.
Doesn’t that say it all? There weren’t enough chargers to deal with the demand, and they tried to block out other people to reserve a spot for Granholm at the faster charger. That screams entitlement and thinking they get to do that because of their power. When you’re stealing a spot from a family with a baby, you just might be pretty scummy. They’re denying a family the very service they claim to be helping to provide because the family was in the way of their PR stunt. And the Biden team did it with a vehicle that wasn’t even electric.
Good for the family who wasn’t taking that nonsense and called the police on them. The police couldn’t do much, however, because it’s not illegal to do what the Secretary’s team did. But realizing they had a potential PR nightmare on their hands, they “scrambled to smooth over the situation, including sending other vehicles to slower chargers, until both the frustrated family and the secretary had room to charge.”
Notice — no Teslas. Why, when that’s the most common electric vehicle that Americans drive? Do they not want to feature anything related to Elon Musk? We’ve already seen how they’re targeting Musk with multiple government actions and investigations after his takeover of Twitter (now X). Domonoske was honest about the problem: ‘I drive an electric vehicle myself, and I’ve test-driven many more as NPR’s auto reporter. I know how easy it can be to charge when everything goes well and how annoying it can be when things go poorly. Riding along with Granholm, I came away with a major takeaway: EVs that aren’t Teslas have a road trip problem, and the White House knows it’s urgent to solve this issue.’
People compared it to an episode of VEEP. They laughed at the incompetence while blasting the sense of entitlement. Talk about a clown show.”

“The Crucifixion of Rudy Giuliani—The once universally beloved figure, is under siege in a manner that would have seemed wholly unfathomable in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks.”

ROGER STONE
SEP 15, 2023
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “On the week of the 22nd anniversary of 9/11, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, once a universally beloved figure, is under siege in a manner that would have seemed wholly unfathomable in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks. The former Mayor is being legally, financially and publicly crucified.
Because Giuliani boldly and unapologetically stood for President Donald Trump, zealously representing his client and exposed election fraud during the 2020 presidential election, this American hero’s character is being aggressively assassinated in a coordinated fashion. Giuliani was recently booked on felony charges in the state of Georgia by leftists who want to punish high-profile Trump supporters to create a chilling effect against anyone who would dare oppose election fraud in 2024.
Giuliani has been hit with a litany of ridiculous and bizarre charges that when viewed out of context would make the man out to be a nefarious criminal mastermind. Some of the charges levied against Giuliani by affirmative action Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis include Conspiracy to Commit Impersonating a Public Officer, Conspiracy to Commit Forgery in the First Degree, Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer, and Conspiracy to Commit False Statements and Writings. In a cruel irony, the man who once took down the mafia in New York City is being hit with a RICO charge himself.
The Gateway Pundit noted that Giuliani has been “charged with crimes for tweeting, placing phone calls to election officials, and for claiming election workers were counting ballots after hours outside of public view in the State Farm Arena.” Benign citizen lobbying actions, advocacy for clients common of licensed attorneys and the sharing of opinions that in any other instance would be permissible under the 1st Amendment are now considered capital offenses, and one of America’s most decorated heroes is the test case in conjuring this dangerous new precedent. As expected, Giuliani has remained defiant in the face of odds that would make lesser men fold immediately under the pressure.
“Enemies of our republic were destroying rights, sacred rights. They’re destroying my right to counsel, my right to be a lawyer. They’re destroying his right to counsel. It’s not accidental that they’ve indicted all as lawyers. Never heard of that before in America,” Giuliani said, “Whether you dislike or you like Donald Trump, let me give you a warning: it’s gonna come for you when the political winds shift, as they always do, let us pray that Republicans are more honest, more trustworthy, and more American than these people in charge of this government.”
Giuliani’s courage is admirable, but it does not seem that most Americans share his ironclad resolve. Where is the widespread outrage for the man who cleaned up New York City, bravely stood up against corruption throughout his entire life at every level, and helped America heal after the nation’s worst tragedy in many generations? It is sadly missing, with many independents and moderates mollified by propaganda and conservatives too shellshocked from the Jan. 6 Reichstag event to effectively mobilize. Most elected Republicans do not even want to touch the issue, believing they may be the next to be targeted if they are outspoken. Many of these Republicans care more about their power, prestige or easy paycheck and were happy to look the other way after 2020, believing it would be easier to protect their way of life if Trump were out of the picture.
It is more convenient to dismiss Giuliani than to confront the dystopian repercussions of his railroading. Giuliani has been painted as a bumbler, as senile, as someone who has disgraced his legacy. Anyone who listens to Giuliani at public events or on his daily podcast can say definitively that Giuliani is as sharp as ever. Giuliani’s actions in the wake of the 2020 presidential election are analogous to his behavior following the Sept. 11 attacks. When others were crippled by fear, Giuliani rose to the occasion. Whether after Sept. 11 or the stolen election in 2022, this is the story of Giuliani and represents his true legacy.
Giuliani pursued the deep state and the pro-Biden conspirators with the same ferocity in which he would tackle any worthwhile endeavor. The fact that Giuliani was not nearly as celebrated this time around shows how much America has changed – for the worse – over the past two decades. Standing for constitutional liberty after Sept. 11 made you a hero, but standing for those same core freedoms will make you a pariah in 2023. Giuliani is an example of the lonely road that American patriots must travel in these dark times where they are hated and scorned by a sophisticated and multifaceted political machine that seeks to destroy their very civilization.
After the Sept. 11 attacks, there was a wave of patriotism that swept the country. The nation was unified, and the people believed that the terrorists would be defeated. Now, as the U.S. abdicates Afghanistan in the most disgraceful of circumstances and shifts focus on a senseless money dump for the military-industrial complex in Ukraine, the War on Terror is undeniably an abject failure, and America is trapped in a death spiral that worsens each day. America’s greatest heroes are now painted as her villains as reality is inverted. The public has forgotten, and Giuliani’s indictment is a testament to this dismal state of affairs.

A shortage of treatment is complicating efforts to combat it.”
BY KAREN BROOKS HARPER AND JAYME LOZANO CARVER
EXCERPT: “About twice a week, a pregnant patient turns up in Dr. Irene Stafford’s obstetrics office in Houston with syphilis, a sexually transmittable disease that affects more newborns in Texas than anywhere else in the country. For a seasoned professional like Stafford, the sheer numbers are startling. She’s been treating congenital syphilis with increasing frequency in recent years in a city that has the state’s highest newborn infection rates.
“People think that syphilis is gone,” said Stafford, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and associate professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. “Syphilis has become an epidemic.” Last year, syphilis cases across Texas rose by 22%, according to preliminary numbers, from 21,476 in 2020 to 25,991 in 2022, the most recent statewide data available. That’s more than double the number of cases reported in Texas five years ago.
While nearly every case is easily treatable with penicillin, untreated syphilis can be passed from an infected pregnant patient to the newborn and can result in the child’s death. Officials in Harris County, which includes Houston, announced in 2021 that syphilis-related fetal deaths increased from four in 2019 to 14 in 2020….”

Holy cow! All hell breaking loose – controlled, so far – in NYC at an event on the “migrant crisis.” This man just went the fuck off to the Fox reporter about all of it – the shutdowns, businesses shut down, teachers fired, they aren’t vaccinated, they are here to overwhelm us and steal our vote, this is my history, my children’s legacy, my country, they’re not ‘elected’, they’re ‘selected’ with absentee ballots, etc., etc….heavy police presence, needless to say.

OK, this isn’t good – what are you thinking, Sarah??? Elected officials are NOT in the same category as lowly police officers!!!
“LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a law Thursday restricting release of her travel and security records after the Legislature wrapped up a special session marked by a fight to more broadly scale back the state Freedom of Information Act.
The law, which took effect immediately, allows the state to wall off details about the security provided the GOP governor and other constitutional officers, including who travels on the State Police airplane and the cost of individual trips. Proposed changes to the 1967 law protecting the public’s access to government records were among several items Sanders had placed on the agenda for a session that met this week.
Sanders has argued the restrictions are needed to protect her and her family, citing threats she’s faced since taking office and going back to her time as White House press secretary for former President Donald Trump.
“We protected the police officers who protect our constitutional officers and my family in keeping their security information and tactics exempt from Freedom of Information Act disclosure,” Sanders said before signing the measure, about two hours after lawmakers gave it final it approval.
Sanders and Republicans in the Legislature had initially pushed for more widespread exemptions to the open-records law, but backed off after facing growing criticism that it would erode government transparency.”

congress tries to sneak doubling the number of temporary workers into a bill. they want to not count returning workers in the count, effectively doubling the number allowed every year in spite of unemployment in the country
FTA
The House bill amends current law to exempt “returning workers” in the H-2B visa program from the total number of workers allowed in 2024. Currently, 66,000 foreign workers per year come to the U.S. temporarily to work in non-agricultural jobs under the program. Under the House Appropriations bill, however, “returning workers” would be exempt from the annual cap of 66,000. The Senate bill also includes an H-2B visa provision, one that increases the 2024 numerical cap by allowing the Secretary to raise it if he determines, at his discretion, that the needs of American businesses cannot be satisfied by U.S. workers.
This proposal to vastly expand the pool of foreign guest workers somehow manages compound a terrible idea with terrible timing. Context is important. The latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics delivers some ominous news for American workers. Over the summer, 1.2 million native-born American workers lost their jobs. If that was not bad enough, during that same period, some 700,000 U.S. jobs were filled by foreign-born workers. Though many members of Congress may have forgotten, protecting American workers from losing jobs and job opportunities to foreign workers is an enunciated objective of U.S. immigration law.
No matter how often business lobbyists cry about a labor shortage in the United States, the evidence suggests otherwise. The U-6 unemployment rate, which includes workers who have become discouraged in their search for employment and those who are involuntarily relegated to part-time jobs, stands at 6.7 percent. Additionally, the labor force participation rate for adults aged 16-64 is only 62.8 percent. In other words, there are plenty of workers to be found right here in the United States, provided employers seek them out and offer reasonable wages.
Another important piece of context is the disastrous state of our immigration system generally. We have a border that is out of control – more than 8.6 million people have entered illegally since President Biden came to office – and our asylum system is being massively abused by economic migrants posing as asylum-seekers. Even though most have no valid claim for asylum, the system is so backlogged that they will be here for years before their case is heard (and are unlikely to leave even when their claims are denied).
Rather than ending this abuse, the Biden administration continues to allow about a quarter of a million new people to enter each month, and issue them Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) as quickly as possible. There are currently 1.5 million EAD applications pending, and local officials who are overwhelmed by the flood of new job-seeking migrants, and business tycoons like Michael Bloomberg, are advocating that Washington speed-up the issuance of EADs. In a September 10 letter to President Biden, 103 House Democrats pressed the administration to work around the mandatory 180-day waiting period for asylum seekers to obtain work authorization, and even suggested that migrants be “paroled-in-place” in order to obtain work authorization quicker.
The appropriations process that will play out in the coming weeks is an opportunity for congressional Republicans to rein in the Biden administration’s lawless immigration policies. The border is in a dire crisis, and strong leadership is needed to help secure the border and prevent the administration from releasing millions more illegal aliens into the U.S. Year after year we see Congress allow for the importation of foreign workers. Now is the time they need to demonstrate that they are willing to stand with American workers, reject the frivolous demands of the business lobby, and reform our immigration system rather than wreak more havoc.

holy crap…really really long thread about spending bills
Mike Lee

🧵1.The law firm of Schumer, McConnell, McCarthy, & Jeffries (“The Firm”) has learned that members of Congress (and voters) don’t like “omnibus” spending bills—that is, legislative proposals that fund all of the functions of the federal government in a single, consolidated bill.
2.This presents a challenge for The Firm, which has for years used omnibus spending bills to manipulate the legislative process. Before we address The Firm’s latest challenge and how it’s responding, let’s first review a few of the basic dynamics at play here.
3. An omnibus spending bill is typically written by The Firm in secret, with assistance from a few “appropriators” (members of the House and Senate spending or “appropriations” committees), hand-picked by The Firm.
4.Once written, an omnibus will first be seen by the public—and even by nearly every member of Congress—only days or hours before a scheduled shutdown.
5. The timing and sequence of a typical omnibus, carefully orchestrated by The Firm, all but ensures that it will pass without substantive changes once it becomes public, and that very few elected, federal lawmakers will have meaningful input in this highly secretive process.
6. At the same time, the fast (almost mindless) flurry of legislative action at the end of this legislative charade gives it the false appearance of democratic legitimacy.
7. Sometimes that appearance is enhanced by The Firm deciding to let members vote on a small handful of amendments, but The Firm persuades enough members into opposing amendments that make substantial changes to the original, sacred text drafted by The Firm.
8. What’s stunning here is that loyalties within The Firm seem to run deeper than those within each party. In light of that phenomenon, some observers have described the force uniting support for The Firm’s omnibus bills as “the Uniparty.” While members of both parties are adversely affected by The Firm’s manipulative tactics, there is far more resentment toward The Firm among Republicans, who see two constants in The Firm’s impact: (1) government spending inexorably grows, and (2) the spending bills advanced by The Firm tend to unite Democrats while sharply dividing Republicans, producing a net gain for Democrats. While exceptions can occasionally be found, Republican appropriators are notorious for wanting to spend—far more than they want to advance Republican policy priorities, deeply endearing them to The Firm.
9. Sure, all members of Congress get to vote on the bill’s ultimate passage. But passage is all but assured. The Firm tells members that they MUST pass it—even though they haven’t seen it, read it, or had time to debate or amend it—because if they don’t, there will be a government shutdown.
10. The Firm also makes clear that members voting against the omnibus will be blamed—by The Firm itself—for the shutdown and its ugly consequences.
11. Thus, although voters in every state elect people to Congress to represent them in all federal legislative endeavors, The Firm can (and often does) render their individual involvement in the spending process far less meaningful than it should be.
12. This sort of thing makes The Firm far more powerful, with more power flowing to The Firm every time this cycle is completed. It’s great for The Firm and the lobbyists and special interests able to capture The Firm’s attention (through home-state connections, political donations, or otherwise).
13. But it’s terrible for the American people, who are stuck with the horrible consequences of this shameful dance, including rampant inflation and our $33 trillion national debt.
14. In a sense, the problem is not necessarily the omnibus itself. In theory, Congress could pass a comprehensive spending bill in a way that didn’t exclude most of its members—and most Americans—from the process of drafting, debating, amending, and passing that bill.
15. Thus, there’s nothing inherently wrong with the omnibus itself; the true evil lies in the process by which the omnibus is secretly drafted, hastily debated, and then passed under extortion from The Firm.
16. Many Americans have, over time, developed a basic understanding of omnibus spending bills—at least enough to be suspicious of them. Having heard enough complaints from their constituents, many members of Congress have understandably begun expressing reluctance toward any omnibus.
17. The Firm has become aware of that growing reluctance, which is a serious threat to The Firm, given how well the omnibus has served The Firm as it perpetually tries to make itself more powerful at the expense of the American people.
18. Clearly alarmed by that threat, some members of The Firm have started to say things like “we will not support omnibus.”
19. By saying that, they make themselves sound heroic, responsive to voters and rank-and-file members, and committed to serious reform of the spending process.
20. That illusion disappears when, on closer inspection, it becomes evident that The Firm’s new strategy is to promise to pass two or three smaller omnibus measures (sometimes called “minibus” bills) by essentially the same, rigged process long associated with the omnibus.
21. Those leery of The Firm’s manipulation tactics understand that (a) the absence of a single omnibus bill, and the use of two or more “minibus” bills instead of a single omnibus, doesn’t mean the process will be fair or materially different than that associated with an omnibus, and (b) it’s very likely that Congress will find itself stuck with a single omnibus, in spite of The Firm’s recent insistence to the contrary.
22. Given that Republicans currently hold the majority in the House of Representatives, rank-and-file Republicans in both chambers generally believe that the Senate should address spending bills only after they have been passed by the Republican-controlled House, as that approach is more likely to protect Republican priorities.
23. Congress is supposed to pass twelve spending bills each year, each associated with different functions of the federal government. So far this year, the House has passed only one spending bill—the one known by the abbreviation “MilConVA,” which contains funding for military construction and the Veterans Administration.
24.This week, the Senate moved to proceed to the House-passed MilConVA appropriations bill.
25. Not content to let the Senate deal with only one spending bill at a time, The Firm wanted to create a minibus out of the MilConVA bill by adding two additional bills drafted by the Democrat-controlled Senate Appropriations Committee—specifically those containing funding for (1) agriculture, and (2) transportation, housing, and urban development.
26. Conservative Republicans in the House and Senate found this move alarming, as it would strengthen The Firm at the expense of Republican priorities, and contribute to the eventual likelihood of an end-of-year omnibus geared primarily toward advancing Democratic priorities.
27. The Firm faced a hurdle: combining the three bills together in the Senate would require the consent of every senator.
28. While many Senate Republicans harbored these concerns, most identified conditions that, if satisfied, would persuade them to consent. Most of the conditions involved some combination of (1) technical and procedural assurances pertaining to how the combined bill would be considered, and (2) an agreement to vote on specific proposed amendments advancing Republican priorities.
29. One Republican senator in particular, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, remained concerned that any agreement would benefit The Firm and far more than it would advance Republican priorities. On that basis, he objected.
30. The Firm wasn’t happy. Making its displeasure known, The Firm and its cheerleaders tried to blame @RonJohnsonWI for the Senate’s inability to restore what’s known as “regular order,” that is, the process by which each of the twelve appropriations bills is supposed to advance independently, and in a way that honors each member’s procedural rights by allowing an “open amendment process.”
@RonJohnsonWI 31. Here’s the irony: what The Firm was proposing was NOT “regular order.” Far from it, it was a slightly different flavor of The Firm’s tried-and-true manipulation formula.
32. Because @SenRonJohnson courageously objected, shortly after the Senate voted to proceed to the House-passed MilConVA bill, the Senate may now proceed to “regular order” consideration of that bill—unencumbered by The Firm’s manipulative plan to subject the Senate to an unending series of omnibus (or omnibus-like) bills that The Firm can ram through both chambers with minimal interference from rank-and-file members.
@RonJohnsonWI @SenRonJohnson 33. @SenRonJohnson deserves credit for standing on principle, and should be thanked for his dedication.
@RonJohnsonWI @SenRonJohnson 34. Together, we can fix this process, which has created so many problems for the American people. But to do that, we have to push back against The Firm.
@MeJuBrun It sounds simple — and it is.
@RonJohnsonWI @SenRonJohnson 35. If this message resonates with you, please retweet and otherwise share it with anyone who might listen, and ask your members of Congress to stand up to The Firm.

I feel for the people of Ukraine – the good ones who just love their country and want to live free.
“Ukraine is bleeding out, and will see no happy ending — The more realistic scenario is the takeover of Ukraine by global capital, which will want to profit either from Ukrainian resource deposits or Ukrainian fertile soil, writes Marcin Kędzierski for the conservative Catholic weekly magazine Gość Niedzielny”

September 15, 2023
editor: GRZEGORZ ADAMCZYK author: MARCIN KĘDZIERSKI via: GOSC.PL
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The war across Poland’s eastern border has been going on for almost 10 years. With each day, the destruction and casualties increase, even if we’ve stopped closely following it. Ukraine is bleeding out. As President Zelensky stated in an interview with CNN, even if victory comes, there won’t be a happy ending.
At the beginning of this year, I was wondering, with the war in former Yugoslavia in mind, whether the war would follow the “Croatian scenario,” which would have seen Ukraine gathering strength, partaking in a quick counteroffensive, and then rebuilding, or whether the “Serbian scenario,” typified by prolonged conflict and chaos, would be more likely. It appears that, unfortunately, only the latter scenario remains on the table.
At the same time, in Poland there’s frequent controversy over how deeply we have engaged in helping Ukraine, and when it comes to reconstruction, we will likely get nothing in return. In my view, talking about rebuilding in light of the news from the front seems very premature, but not just for that reason alone.
Last week, I participated in a conference where a German professor outlined what needs to happen for Ukraine to replicate Germany’s post-war economic miracle — or at least the Polish economic miracle after 1989. In short, what is necessary is capital, educated people, and an appropriate, liberal economic policy — the kind conducted in West Germany by Chancellor Ludwig Erhard or in Poland by Leszek Balcerowicz.
Leaving aside Poland’s success story — so as not to overly mock this liberal miracle — I’d like to focus momentarily on Germany’s economic miracle (Wirtschaftswunder). It seems to me that my esteemed colleague from across the Oder River overlooked two crucial factors that enabled their economic miracle. The first relates to American security guarantees and the presence of several hundred thousand American troops. Secondly, according to economic historians, the Allies deliberately avoided destroying West Germany’s industrial potential. Furthermore, Germany essentially evaded paying war reparations, allowing the enormous wealth accumulated during the era of the Third Reich to fuel West Germany’s economic growth.
Now, let’s look at Ukraine. There will be no real security guarantees, and the war won’t end quickly. The industrial and energy infrastructure is constantly the target of missile attacks. War losses are already measured in hundreds of billions of dollars. Ukraine has no capital, as everything it has is allocated to the conduct of hostilities. There won’t be any new Marshall Plan or the confiscation of Russian financial assets. Finally, it’s hard to expect that, as if by the touch of a magic wand, effective institutions would suddenly appear in Ukraine and corruption would disappear.
In this situation, of course, one can talk about reconstruction, but a more realistic scenario is Ukraine’s takeover by global capital, looking to profit either from Ukrainian resource deposits or fertile soil. In practice, neither Ukrainian society nor our small, globally insignificant businesses, will have a say in this. This is already evident in the dispute over the import of Ukrainian grain.
Conclusion? There won’t be the Great Rebuilding that Ukrainians and Poles dream of. However, we can only hope that this process begins as soon as possible and that our eastern neighbors return to a normal way of life as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, that will likely take several generations to achieve.”

“Another Whitmer Fednapping Case Goes Boom — Three men on trial for state charges related to the FBI entrapment scheme acquitted Friday on all counts by a Michigan jury.”

JULIE KELLY
SEP 15, 2023
EXCERPT: “In another blow to the FBI’s concocted plot to kidnap and assassinate Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020, a jury in Antrim County today acquitted three men indicted on state charges for their alleged role in the scheme. Michael and William Null, twin brothers, and Eric Molitor were found not guilty of providing material support for an act of terrorism and unlawful possession of firearms. Jurors began deliberations Thursday afternoon following a 14-day trial before Judge Charles Hamlyn.
The verdicts represent the second time a jury has acquitted individuals charged in the FBI-orchestrated plot. In April 2022, a Grand Rapids jury acquitted Daniel Harris, Jr. and Brandon Caserta on federal kidnapping and weapons charges. The jury hung on the remaining defendants, Adam Fox and Barry Croft, Jr.; both were convicted after a second trial in August 2022. (Two co-defendants pleaded guilty and testified for the government at both trials.)
During the course of the federal proceedings, defense attorneys uncovered an elaborate entrapment scheme that involved dozens of FBI informants, supervising agents, and undercover employees. “In this Case, the undisputed evidence…establishes that government agents and informants concocted, hatched, and pushed this ‘kidnapping plan’ from the beginning, doing so against defendants who explicitly repudiated the plan,” defense attorneys wrote in the December 25, 2021 motion. “When the government was faced with evidence showing that the defendants had no interest in a kidnapping plot, it refused to accept failure and continued to push its plan. The government’s exploitation of its virtually unlimited resources, poured into its investigation, further underscores entrapment as a matter of law.”
FBI agents and informants organized meetings and excursions including “reconnaissance” trips to Whitmer’s summer cottage, the scene of the fabricated crime; purchased food and alcohol for their targets; invented a “militia” group led by a longtime FBI informant; created encrypted group chats to fuel conversations about the kidnapping plot; and recorded their targets under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. “Collectively, the first three informants were directly involved in every aspect of this case, every meeting, every [field training exercise] and every significant event from the day the investigation commenced in March of 2020 until the Defendant’s arrests [sic] on October 7, 2020,” a defense attorney wrote in a February 2022 motion…..”
