Labradors!

You may already know the Labrador Retriever as a high-energy, water-loving family dog. You might also feel like you see them everywhere. That’s no coincidence because the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the United States (and in much of the world). Read on to learn more about this easy-going dog breed, from their hunting dog history to how to care for your very own lab best friend, and decide whether a Labrador Retriever dog is right for you.

Labrador Retriever Breed Appearance

A Labrador Retriever dog has a dense, short-to medium-length coat, with a wide head. As a consummate water dog, a lab’s webbed toes help them move through the wet stuff, and their rudder-like otter tail is great for swimming (and knocking things off your coffee table). Their foot webbing also helps them stay comfortable in colder climates, forming a “snowshoe” that keeps snow and ice from getting stuck between their toes.

Labrador Retrievers are born with a variety of colorings, such as the yellow Lab, chocolate Lab, and black Lab. The silver Labrador Retriever has a rarer grayish coloring with striking blue eyes. Although it sounds like it, a “golden Lab” is not a coloring of Labrador Retriever and is instead a crossbreeding of the Golden Retriever and a true Lab.

Within the Lab breed, there are two distinct body types. The field or working variety (also referred to as the “American” type) tends to have lighter bones, a longer and less dense coat, a narrower head, and a longer muzzle. They also tend to have more energy and be higher strung. This is no accident, as these Labs are built to work.

The “English” or show variety of Labrador Retriever tends to have shorter legs, a denser coat, and a broad head. This variety is better suited to be a family pet.

As far as grooming goes, a Labrador Retriever dog will usually shed twice a year, or year-round in temperate climates. Much like other dogs with a double coat, weekly brushing (or daily during shedding months) should be enough to prevent that dreaded blowout of the undercoat.

Labrador Retriever Personality

The Labrador Retriever was bred to be friendly, both toward humans and other dogs. To complement that gentle nature, their working history gives them a high-energy, fearless, enthusiastic personality.

Labs are curious and intelligent, which means they do well as service dogs, but this can mean that your single-minded lab is more likely to escape or suddenly disappear, most likely having followed something interesting (squirrel?). This is why many owners of Labrador Retriever dogs choose to microchip their pets.

Ideal Environment for a Labrador Retriever

A Labrador Retriever dog will need plenty of exercise and outdoor time. And, as their name implies, they love to retrieve. The best home for a lab will be one with a big backyard or space nearby for a long game of fetch. With their sweet personalities and love of play, these dogs are a popular breed for an active family.

Ideal Human for a Labrador Retriever

The ideal human companion for a Labrador Retriever likes to play just as much as their dog. This can mean long walks and runs, swimming, or tossing a ball around.

However, the Lab’s history as a working dog also means that daily walks for exercise aren’t enough. Trick training, puzzle toys, and other mentally challenging games like hide and seek will help keep your Lab happy.

Lab Obedience Training

With consistent positive reinforcement, a lab will excel with basic obedience training and soon be ready to move on to more complicated skills. You may still consider a professional dog training for the early days though. Labs are known to be a little distractible. This can also be managed with plenty of mental and physical exercise, including teaching your lab new tricks in quiet environments where they can focus.

With their talent for learning and easygoing nature, Labrador Retrievers make excellent service dogs. Labs serve as companions to people with illnesses or vulnerabilities and are able to do complex tasks like rolling a person into the recovery position or activating an emergency communication device.

According to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Labs are the most successful guide dogs. This champion smeller can even work in search and rescue and is especially suited to more challenging work, such as water rescue. Labrador Retrievers are true heroes of the dog world.

Labrador Retriever Grooming

Most Labrador Retriever parents will find grooming relatively easy. Labs have a thick double coat, and shed their undercoat during spring and fall (or year-round in temperate climates). During the seasonal shedding periods, you can brush them daily to help remove fur. The rest of the year, brushing once a week as maintenance should be enough. Occasional baths may be necessary to keep your Labrador Retriever clean, especially if your Labrador likes to find smelly things to roll in. Like most dogs, Labrador Retrievers’ nails should be trimmed regularly, and their teeth brushed to maintain dental health.

Labrador Retriever Health

Labrador Retriever dogs tend to be a healthy breed with very few health problems. Some Labs may develop elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia, but less so than other dog breeds. Labrador Retrievers can also tend toward knee problems and eye problems, such as progressive retinal atrophy. Ask your vet for more information on prevention or treatment of potential health issues. Many pet owners opt for pet health insurance, just in case.

A note on that endless game of fetch: some labs will work until they collapse. Be sure to take regular rest and water breaks when you’re getting your play on.

Labrador Retriever History

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the first Labrador retrievers were bred in England, from a unique and water-loving ancestor, the St. John’s water dog. St. John’s water dogs originally came from Newfoundland, where they assisted fishermen with retrieving nets and other equipment, and even diving for dropped fish.

Working mainly as gun dogs specializing in retrieving waterfowl, Labrador Retrievers later became accomplished sporting dogs, joined the show ring, and eventually stepped into the role of the fun-loving family companion we know today. Across the world, but especially in the United States, England, and Canada, the Labrador Retriever remains one of the most popular dog breeds to date.

  5. MIC has nothing on the homelessness industrial complex! they’ve ade it a lucrative self perpetuating business especially in CA and NY and they are not gonna stop.
    FTA
When Sidner sat down with former mayor Willie Brown to ask why he believed San Francisco couldn’t make a dent in its catastrophic homeless problem, Brown was succinct: “It is not designed to be solved. It is designed to be perpetuated. It is to treat the problem, not solve it.”

And unlike CNN, she did the digging to illustrate just what the old political powerbroker meant.

She came upon one particular NGO kingpin who stood at the top of the rat-king hierarchy of San Francisco homeless-advocacy NGOs, a character named Jennifer Friedenbach, who serves as longtime executive director of the Coalition on Homelessness, who seemed to be holding the city hostage to the perpetuation of her NGOs interests in keeping homelessness expanding and permanant.

I remember these guys were feared and powerful even in the early 1990s when I was reporting the community news.

They’ve only gotten richer and more powerful ever since. They not only are light on qualifications other than political clout in their personnel, they also are none-too-transparent in their federal filings, as well as rather subliterate, Dyer’s report notes.

But their crowning achievement seems to be in getting laws passed, and worse still coopting wokester billionaires from the Silicon Valley crowd to back them in order to get the government to shell out for more homeless programs.

I’ve referred to Friedenbach as “CEO of the city’s de facto homeless marketing agency,” spending their money on Sharpies and cardboard to make the handwritten signs they hold up at City Hall protests, but her crowning achievement actually goes back to fundraising: “crafting Prop C Our City Our Home, a tax on corporations that pays for homeless housing and will double San Francisco’s efforts to address homelessness.”

She got one her minions, a trust fund baby named Christin Evans, to rope in Marc Benioff, the founder of Salesforce, and a Silicon Valley billionaire, to support her proposition to shovel money to NGOs to “solve” homelessness for the voters, which his money managed to do.

One evening while scrolling through Twitter, Evans came across a post from Marc Benioff, the founder and CEO of software company Salesforce, referring to San Francisco as the “Four Seasons of homelessness.” Outraged, she tweeted back, “Did @benioff just compare SF’s homeless services to a luxury hotel chain? How out of touch can a billionaire be?!?!”

Intrigued, Benioff reached out to Evans and the two exchanged private messages. While Benioff attributed the quote to somebody else, Evans saw an opportunity to reel in the CEO of San Francisco’s largest employer.

By the end of their chat, Benioff supported the measure, despite the fact it would cost his own company millions. He and Salesforce donated a combined $8 million to the campaign (the most ever spent on a local ballot measure so near to election day). Benioff became Prop. C’s biggest champion, chastising fellow CEOs for “not caring about homeless people.” Even his celebrity friends, comedian Chris Rock and singer Jewel, came onboard, shooting endorsement videos for Evans and COH. “We call her the CEO whisperer,” Friedenbach boasted at the time.

Which is ironic indeed. All that tech expertise to supposedly make life more techy and advanced and efficient, and what it pays for in the end is more bums on the street urinating in people’s doorways and criminals breaking into people’s cars.

The report goes into how the homeless advocacy groups make money from the city by dipping into its vast pots supposedly to fix the homeless crisis, and how this money only fuels more homelessness, as well as turns San Francisco into a magnet for bums looking for the state to owe them a living.

It also goes into the junk lawsuits against the city to ensure that Friedenbach’s homeless “clients” get free everything, including permanent housing to their specifications, immunity from any law enforcement actions to sweep them out, and freedom to park their cars wherever they like while everyone else pays tickets. The bums, in fact, consult their lawyers for legal advice on how to squeeze more from the city’s offerings.

It’s a very well done report that goes into the innards and bowels of how the homeless industrial complex works, full of compelling storytelling. Thank goodness the Marina Times was there to expose this, because the big newspapers are never going to spot it.

  7. https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/all-things-trump/federal-judge-dismisses-trumps-million-dollar-lawsuit-against-cnn

EXCERPT: “A federal judge on Friday dismissed former President Donald Trump’s $475 million defamation lawsuit against CNN. In the lawsuit, Trump’s legal team argued that the news outlet’s statements about him likened him to Adolf Hitler and were defamatory, according to Politico. Trump-appointed U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal ruled that Trump could not sue the outlet for defamation.

“Being ‘Hitler-like’ is not a verifiable statement of fact that would support a defamation claim,” Singhal wrote in the dismissal. “CNN’s statements, while repugnant, were not, as a matter of law, defamatory.”

Trump’s lawsuit cited five examples of the use of the term “The Big Lie” that his attorneys say CNN has refused to retract. The phrase has historically suggested “a propaganda technique so powerful that people who believe in its message could not believe that someone could have distorted it. It has popular origins in German from Adolf Hitler in his memoir, Mein Kampf,” according to Politico. Judge Singhal also added that bad rhetoric does not equate to defamation.” — Just the News

Our Take: “Defamation is extremely hard to prove and must include verifiably false statements. Now, CNN has made numerous false statements about 45, and this latest court ruling appears to raise the defamation bar even higher.

This judge ruled that CNN’s use of the Nazi trope ‘big lie,’ and their likening Trump to Adolph Hitler did not rise to the level of defamation. These references are ubiquitous in the mainstream narrative now, undeniably damaging the President’s character and reputation among the populace. They are verifiably false statements, but the judge dismissed them as ‘repugnant’ but not defamatory.

This is a chilling outcome that proves the regime media will never be held accountable for their election interference, and that they can openly defame political opponents without fear of repercussions. There are two standards of justice in this country, and it’s a dangerous time to stand against the regime. But that means it’s more important than ever to stand against the regime.” — Ashe in America (Badlands Media)

I talked to her a week or so ago to see if she wanted any Cilantro and she asked me if I’d seen her huge sunflower plant. I had seen the smaller one on the left and the tall greenery on the right and had assumed it was another sunflower but it hadn’t bloomed. She was hopeful at that time that it would bloom…and it did! So I took a couple of pics, then e-mailed them to her – she was soooo tickled!!! LOL

She maneuvers the walker into place, then since down in it and bends over to pull weeds. Oran is also having more difficulty getting around these days and their kids do the heavy work now. But he still gets out there and mows the yard himself and it’s as big as mine.

  13. This guy (Andy McCarthy – a VERY smart man!) makes a hell of a lot of sense re: testimony from Archer and Miranda Devine’s comment that “…he has nothing to lose…” So far, Archer has only been charged in one case that is only tangentially connected to the Bidens and not at all in any of the other many cases against the Biden Family/Hunter. Congress does not have the power to give him immunity in those cases – that would have to come from the DOJ, which is NOT going to do that. What makes anyone think he will now testify before a Congressional committee to being involved with all of that as well???

The correspondence adds to the questions about Biden’s business activities, which have dogged the 2020 Democratic primary campaign of his father Joe. Hunter Biden’s long history of drug and alcohol abuse, which contributed to his divorce and his dismissal from the Navy Reserve, has also attracted unwelcome publicity for the Democratic front-runner.

An email released to the Washington Examiner shows that Biden’s decision to join the board of Ukraine’s Burisma Holdings sparked immediate concern within his inner circle about the political optics. Biden’s father Joe — now vying for the 2020 Democratic Party nomination — was then vice president and overseeing the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy.

At the time, Hunter Biden, now 49, and Christopher Heinz, the stepson of then-Secretary of State John Kerry, co-owned Rosemont Seneca Partners, a $2.4 billion private equity firm. Heinz’s college roommate, Devon Archer, was managing partner in the firm. In the spring of 2014, Biden and Archer joined the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian gas company that was at the center of a U.K. money laundering probe. Over the next year, Burisma reportedly paid Biden and Archer’s companies over $3 million.”

  16. “Job Listing For Obama’s New Personal Chef Receives Zero Applications”
    U.S. · Jul 31, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

MARTHA’S VINEYARD — After posting a job listing to fill their vacant personal chef position, former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, were disappointed to learn it had received zero applications.

“Why wouldn’t anyone want this job?” an exasperated Michelle was heard asking her servant’s personal assistant’s driver at the Obamas’ lavish estate. “Working for us is one of the greatest privileges anyone could experience. As long as you don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong, you’ll be well-compensated and you’ll get to stay alive! Where’s the downside?”

In the absence of someone to prepare meals, Barack has reportedly found himself in the unenviable position of cooking for Michelle every day. “You think I want to be the one in the line of fire?” he was heard asking one of his bodyguards’ social media managers. “That woman is serious about her food. You do not want to overcook her steak. You saw what happened to the last guy.”

Remaining staff members have been attempting to steer clear of the couple when they are around, going as far as to avert their eyes or dive into nearby shrubs to avoid running afoul of the former president and his wife. “You don’t know what it’s like around here,” said one staff member who asked to remain anonymous out of fear. “I’d tell you, but…I don’t want to get, you know, ‘paddleboarded.'”

At publishing time, the Obamas were preparing to sweeten the position to potential chefs, including offering to pay for their funeral and burial arrangements.”

34,000 Illegal 2020 Election Ballots Found in Michigan during Forensic Study
The fraud exposed was especially among absentee ballots in the controversial 2020 election.

    Forensic investigators found:

A significant number of absentees in different precincts illegally had no signed ballot application. Many absentee ballots had no request whatsoever, in the two primary precincts examined the rates of illegal ballots were 12% and 20%.
Absentee ballots often had a lighter tone and shade to the printing. The Detroit clerks even commented to the Specklin team that the type of paper felt different.

If the numbers of absentees missing a ballot request are extrapolated out to the rest of Wayne County, Specklin reports, “with approximately 170,000 AV ballots, the range at 8%-20% would be 13,600 to 34,000 ballots with no application requesting the ballot.”
