The larkspur flower has an identity issue in that it’s the common name for both Delphinium and Consolida ajacis, which are also both in the same buttercup family. As Delphinium, larkspur is considered an herbaceous perennial. But as Consolida ajacis, or true larkspur as it’s called, it is considered an annual. However, these closely related cousins look nearly identical, growing delicate little blooms on showy, spikey stems that are adorned by lacy foliage.

As a perennial, larkspur commonly bears purple, blue, or white flowers. Lavender is the next most common color. You will occasionally encounter larkspurs with pink blooms, and other colors exist but are rarer. Larkspur is valued as one of the traditional plants for cottage gardens. Meanwhile, they are useful for drawing butterflies and hummingbirds to the yard. Larkspur is a toxic plant. Take precautions to prevent children and pets from ingesting it.

Warning

All parts of a larkspur plant are toxic so take precautions to prevent children and pets from touching or ingesting the flower. Touching the plant can affect the skin with a minor rash, but it is dangerous to eat the plant, especially the flowers and seeds.

Most larkspur plants, however, are considered stately perennials ideal for growing at the back of a flower border. The drawback with these is that you have to stake them. For example, ‘Cassius’ is one of the tall types of Delphinium. This D. Elatum hybrid definitely needs to be staked. If you prefer low-maintenance landscaping, opt for dwarf types.

Their impressive height (some types reach 7 feet tall) makes them extremely showy specimens. The taller types of larkspur are well worth growing if you do not mind performing a bit of maintenance.

There’s no need to do anything with a true larkspur for the winter as some are annuals and the others which are considered delphiniums are short-lived perennials that will die back on their own before the first frost.

Light

Full sun is best for larkspur. The plant needs between 6 and 8 hours of sun daily.

Soil

Give them a moist, cool, well-drained soil. The soil can be kept cool and moist by furnishing with mulch.

Water

Water the plants once or twice a week. Give the flowers an inch of water every time you water. If the soil becomes waterlogged, stick to watering the plants once a week.

Temperature and Humidity

Larkspur prefers cooler temperatures, which also triggers blooming. The plant prefers mild summerlike conditions that are not humid, however, seedlings may prefer some humidity.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your larkspur plants every spring with compost.

Types of Larkspur

When most gardeners think of larkspur, they think of a plant with blue flowers. As you can see, there are many choices in blue larkspurs. They differ in terms of hardiness, size, and the precise quality of the blue flower color. Here are 10 popular larkspur types:

Black Knight Larkspur (Delphinium ‘Black Knight’): Deep purple blooms, 4 to 6 feet tall

Galahad Larkspur (Delphinium ‘Galahad’); Snow-white petals, 4 to 6 feet tall

Astolat Larkspur (Delphinium Astolat Group): Pink to lavender pink petals, 4 to 6 feet tall

Guardian Lavender Larkspur (Delphinium elatum ‘Guardian Lavender’): Lavender blossoms, 2 to 4 feet tall

Dwarf Larkspur (Delphinium tricorne): Deep violet blue flowers, dwarf, 1 to 3 feet tall

Blue Mirror Larkspur (Delphinium ‘Blue Mirror’): Blue and lavender blossoms, dwarf, 2 feet tall

Cassius Larkspur (Delphinium ‘Cassius’): Blue blooms with black centers, 6 to 7 feet tall

Summer Skies Larkspur (Delphinium ‘Summer Skies’): Pale blue flowers, 5 feet tall

    Florida couple arrested for human trafficking after forcing women into prostitution with their child at home

    A couple in Marion County, Florida, was arrested and charged with human trafficking after they allegedly bonded three women out of jail and gave them housing but forced them into prostitution.

    Joselito Martinez and Tanya Wurster are charged in connection with the human trafficking of three women between 2019 and 2021 at various locations throughout Central Florida, the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation said in a press release, according to Fox 35.

    After the couple bonded the women out of jail and provided them a place to live, the women were allegedly forced to engage in “commercial sex acts with customers,” which helped the pair rake in more than $300,000 from the victims over the course of two years.

    According to investigators, Martinez used “narcotics, threats of violence, and humiliating acts such as shaving the victim’s head to control the victim.” Deputies said he also forced two women to receive tattoos to brand them as his property.

    “These ‘known gotaways’ do not provide biometric or biographic information to USBP agents and continue their journey into the interior of the country without background checks against law enforcement databases,” Reps. Jim Jordan, James Comer and Mark Green wrote in a recent letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

I’m not saying she isn’t attractive per se, but she does not look fit to me.

  25. I just emptied the last jar of jelly into the squeeze bottle – 12 jars plus a few I picked up before I got the case. All of the smaller birds eat it. I’m debating whether to go ahead and order another case – then I’ll have it for next year – or just pick up a couple more jars on my monthly shopping trip Wednesday…..had to tip it and dump out the rain from last night.

      1. Remember the old fashioned red and yellow squeeze bottles that literally every drive-in restaurant had for ketchup and mustard? We had a ton of them at the Legion and, when it shut down, I snagged 2 of them. I never used the one for mustard anyway since I rarely use mustard. I shipped off the tip so the jelly would come out faster, leaving just enough to stick thru the bars of the cage.

    UPDATE 1: My mother will never go back to her primary care physician after he attempted to force her to take the DEATHVAX™ without informed consent. This sociopathic gerontologist accused yours truly of “elder abuse” because I would not coerce my mother into taking this slow kill bioweapon. Since writing about this profoundly troubling experience in the below article last year, my mother was still getting her prescription refills from that doctor’s office. And then last week the pharmacy informed me that this doctor refuses to provide refills any longer.

    Even the pharmacist, after reaching out to his office, was utterly dismayed given the nature of the medicines and the fact that my mother was on her last capsules; in other words, this sicko doctor was fully cognizant that there was not enough time to find a new doctor, make an appointment and get to their office before running out of the medicines.

    Because we no longer trust any NYC doctors at this point, last evening in a kind of Hail Mary play I reached out to My Free Doctor in the hopes that they would submit my mother’s refills. It was 7:28pm and the pharmacy closed at 8:00pm. By 7:52 a doctor had reviewed my mother’s medical history and sent in the refill Rx to the pharmacy!

    I am beyond grateful that there is such a service available to all Americans to bypass the criminal Medical Industrial Complex.

    I would also like to add that this monstrous doctor was for years prescribing my mother a dangerous drug that I had warned him about on numerous occasions. He admitted to me that it did have an unsafe profile. And then my mother blacked out from said drug, broke her hip and almost died. He also later needlessly prescribed her statins which yours truly put the kibosh on before my mother so much as popped a single poisonous pill.

    This doctor happens to be one of the top-rated specialists in his field…..”

I just saw at tcth someone posted a video about fentanyl and speed being found in medications now. haven’t watched it yet…they are finding ways to control us anyway they can. they outlaw ivermectin so people order from pharmacies out of this country…and now there’s a scare about counterfeit meds containing drugs–so you’ll be at big pharma’s mercy in this country. scare to control all the time!

    UPDATE – Sally Q’s Dad was recovering beautifully and going to be able to go home next week, but he fell last night at 2:30 am and broke a hip.

    In doing the x-ray scans for the hip, the ER found an aortic aneurism in his abdomen.

    He’s facing 2 types of surgery and another lengthy recovery.

    Prayers greatly needed! Thank you, dear hearts!

    The document also “teaches” physicians and hospitals to code for COVID-19, even when the cause of death may have been something else. Note that in the WHO examples below, a positive COVID-19 test is not necessary for listing COVID-19 as the cause of death.”

Huh…interesting – the doctor who invented the original stethoscope (Dr. Renee Laennec, France) had a young female patient who complained of chest pain and he thought he would be better able to diagnose her problem if he could listen to her heart and lungs. But he was a proper gentleman and did not want to put his ear on a young, innocent woman’s chest….so he rolled up a notebook laying on his desk, creating a tube, and put the base of that against her chest. Lo’ and behold, he could hear both! He spent several years coming up with the original wooden model and named it stetho (for chest) and scope (to explore). He finally published his findings in 1819.

    Two New York City men who attempted to intervene when migrants outside a shelter started throwing objects at people on the sidewalk in Harlem, were hospitalized, with one being pushed through a glass door on Sunday morning.

    The New York City Police Department said officers responded to reports of an assault and learned that a group of men were attacking pedestrians by throwing objects at them.

    The incident occurred in the area of Central Park North and Madison Avenue, near an old jail that was converted into a shelter for those seeking asylum.

    According to police, a 35-year-old man exited his apartment and confronted the group, but ended up getting punched and kicked by the attackers. The New York Post reported that witnesses said the group pushed the man through a glass door.

    The 35-year-old man was tended to by emergency responders and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

    Another man who intervened was beaten by the attackers before being transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, where he was listed in stable condition.

    Police said one person was arrested in the incident and released with a criminal citation for disorderly conduct.

    One security guard at the former correctional facility told The Post he saw the fight with the migrants and a man who intervened.

    The security guard saw the man get chased by several migrants for about a block until he was backed into a glass door of an apartment building.

    “He went to, I guess, find safety,” he told The Post. “Instead, they pushed him into the glass and pulled him out as he was trying to get away.”

    Police said the investigation is ongoing.

    New York City has been overwhelmed by tens of thousands of migrants pouring into the five boroughs over the past year.

    According to the Mayor’s office, over 90,000 asylum seekers sought shelter in the city to date. Most of the migrants entered the U.S. from the southern border.

    Over 50,000 migrants are currently being housed in New York City, and officials revealed last month that the city was at a “tipping point.”

    Last week, Mayor Eric Adams announced the city did not have any more room to house asylum seekers.

  45. Wow! When my friendly DTV man was here, I discontinued the extra outlet in the bedroom so I knew that would mean the bill would be slightly lower….but I didn’t figure it would be this much – more like $10! Went from over $120/mo to just under $88 this time!!! Whoopee!!!

    Forthcoming research from nonprofit conservative watchdog Judicial Watch indicates Illinois has close to 800,000 inactive registered voters.

    Judicial Watch announced Friday a federal judge ordered the Illinois State Board of Elections to turn over voter roll data to the Illinois Conservative Union and three registered voters. The state had allowed review in person in Springfield during limited hours, but that was 200 miles from where the plaintiffs live.

    Friday’s ruling means plaintiffs will get access to digital copies of voter rolls for the past 15 elections to include “registrant’s full name … residential street address … email address … telephone number, county and state voter identification number, age of the registrant, and the registrant’s status (active or inactive) and the most recent date the entry was changed.”

    “Clean voter rolls mean cleaner elections,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “This is a victory for all legal voters in Illinois. Voters will now have the transparency that federal law requires in order to ensure elections in Illinois are more honest and cleaner.”

    Judicial Watch also announced forthcoming research it plans to release based on recent census data and information Illinois reported to the federal Election Assistance Commission that shows 14% of Illinois’ counties have more registered voters than citizens over 18, indicating the state has close to 800,000 inactive registrants.

    “Those are staggering numbers and the very reason why we need the openness and transparency in an effort to clean up these voter rolls, again, just another step to try and restore faith in the system, in the election system, for the voters of Illinois,” state Rep. Brad Halbrook told The Center Square.

    As a member of the Illinois House Ethics and Elections Committee, Halbrook argued for changes.

    “These 40 day, prior to election day, vote by mail, early voting, ballots can be counted up to 14 days, the potential with rank-choice voting on the horizon, all of this stuff is not good for clean and fair elections and has to be reformed,” Halbrook said.

    Judicial Watch has a pending lawsuit challenging Illinois’ weeks-long election process, arguing federal elections should be decided on election day, not weeks after.

Police in Edgartown, Massachusetts, confirmed on Monday that the search for an unidentified 43-year-old African American man has been called off, the Martha’s Vineyard’s Times reports.

    Massachusetts State Police said in a statement that authorities responded around 7.40pm on Sunday to the emergency at the town’s Great Pond, located in the vicinity of a 30-acre waterfront Turkeyland Cove estate that the Obamas bought in 2019. Another paddle boarder who was with the man now feared dead on the pond told authorities that he saw the man struggle to stay on the surface and then go underwater.

    His paddle board and hat were found later that day. Several agencies from neighbouring areas and the US Coast Guard aided in the search and rescue before efforts were paused on Monday morning.

    “After several hours of searching last night, efforts to locate the missing paddle boarder were unsuccessful and the operation was paused to allow dive teams, flight crews, and other responders to re-equip and assess next steps.
