Moonstone: June’s Third Birthstone

June’s third birthstone, moonstone, was named by the Roman natural historian Pliny, who wrote that moonstone’s shimmery appearance shifted with the phases of the moon.

The most common moonstone comes from the mineral adularia, named for an early mining site near Mt. Adular in Switzerland that supplied this gemstone. This site also birthed the term adularescence, which refers to the stone’s milky glow, like moonlight floating on water.

Moonstone is composed of microscopic layers of feldspar that scatter light to cause this billowy effect of adularescence. Thinner layers produce a bluish sheen, and thicker layers look white. Moonstone gems come in a range of colors spanning yellow, gray, green, blue, peach, and pink, sometimes displaying a star or cat’s eye.

The finest classical moonstones, colorlessly transparent with a blue shimmer, come from Sri Lanka. Since these sources of high-quality blue moonstones have essentially been mined out, prices have risen sharply.

Moonstones are also found in India, Australia, Myanmar, Madagascar, and the United States. Indian gemstones, which are brown, green, or orange in color, are more abundant and affordably priced than their classical blue counterparts.

This beautiful gemstone’s weakness is its relatively low hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale, making it prone to stress cracking and cleaving. Care is required with moonstone jewelry like rings or bracelets; so, sometimes brooches and pendants are preferred for long term durability.

    1. Morning, Pat! Nipply here but clear – 57 – w/some rain predicted tomorrow and Wednesday, when I make another trip to Norfolk for monthly shopping. Then to Madison to Mom’s to p/u a gardening stool she is giving me – handy fold-up thing for either kneeling or sitting. It will save my butt/knees from getting sore on cement and landscape stones! I also have more wax for the bath I gave her for her hands that I’ve been hauling around in my truck for months. Apparently, they started her on a fiber supplement that is helping with her incontinence issue. Both Sis and I agreed – not much point in pushing for a colonoscopy at her age – even if it showed colon cancer, she could never survive the treatment anyway. No sense in putting her thru that.

tell me more about the wax and bath for her hands! working with crafts, i am always washing my hands and drying them out, but i can’t use most moisturizers because they transfer to the fabrics i work with.
that gardening stool sounds like a great idea!

Dershowitz is right. Trump did not commit any acts of espionage and is not accused of committing and acts of espionage, despite the name of the extremely controversial 1917 statute. Therefore, Trump’s lawyers should file a motion with the judge directing that the Biden regime stop using the term to bias both the public and any potential jurors. THE TRUMP LAWYERS MUST START GETTING AGGRESSIVE AND FILING MOTIONS TO MOVE THE TRIAL UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION, TO COMPEL THE REGIME TO MAKE ALL DOCUMENTS IT INTENDS TO USE PUBLIC (INCLUDING SO-CALLED CLASSIFIED INFORMATION), MAKE PUBLIC THE SECRET FILINGS AND ORDER OF THE DC FEDERAL JUDGE VIOLATING ATTORNEY-CLIENT PRIVILEGE; AND A MOTION FOR THE JUDGE TO HOLD DOJ IN CONTEMPT FOR FAILING TO ACTIVELY PREVENT THE ONGOING AND ENDLESS LEAKS BY THE REGIME TO THE PRESS, AND THIS IS JUST FOR STARTERS.

The IRS whistleblowers say Hunter booked income from Burisma as a “loan” so he wouldn’t have to pay tax on it. But you can’t lend money to yourself.
“The IRS team recommended that Hunter be prosecuted on felony charges of tax evasion for 2014 and false tax filings and a misdemeanor charge for 2015 of failure to pay tax. Yet because the U.S. Attorney waited so long to make a prosecutorial decision, the six-year statute of limitations expired. Hunter thus won’t pay taxes on more than $400,000 in unreported income for these years. Mr. Shapley says: ‘The purposeful exclusion of the 2014 and 2015 years sanitized the most substantive criminal conduct and concealed material facts.””

Sweden Shocks Europe: Abandons ‘Unstable’ Green Energy Agenda, Returns to Nuclear Power
    https://redstate.com/mike_miller/2023/06/25/sweden-shocks-europe-abandons-unstable-green-energy-agenda-returns-to-nuclear-power-n766866

In a statement announcing the new policy in the Swedish Parliament, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson warned that the Scandinavian nation needs “a stable energy system.”

Svantesson said wind and solar power are too “unstable” to meet the nation’s energy requirements. Instead, she said, the Swedish government is shifting back to nuclear power and has scrapped its goal of a “100 percent renewable energy” supply to meet the nation’s energy requirement, as reported by Slay.

    1. This isn’t true….

“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted an article on Sunday about Garth Brooks getting booed off stage. The story described how Brooks was performing in the Texas city of Hambriston when “patriots” booed the country music legend mercilessly before he finally left after just two minutes. But there are a couple of big problems with Abbott’s tweet: The city of Hambriston doesn’t exist and the article is completely fake.
      ———
But the article shared by Gov. Abbott isn’t real. The link directs to something called the Dunning Kruger Times, a satirical website that parodies a right-wing perspective on the news. If the name of the website sounds familiar, that’s probably because the website keeps going viral on conservative Twitter with many people failing to understand that it’s satire.”

With the latest leaks to the media by the Biden regime and their rogue prosecutor that they are pressuring Trump campaign staff and Jan. 6 so-called “fake electors” to testify against Trump, their lawyers should’ve moved the lower court, and appealed as needed, that the executive branch, including the rogue prosecutor, has NO authority to investigate political decisions related to providing slates of electors. Not only has it been done before, but Congress has the final say over which electors to choose not some prosecutor. This should never have been part of a criminal investigation of any kind.

  10. agree with this sentiment in part. your threats have to have a force behind them or they will be revealed as toothless platitudes. if you have a weapon at your disposal and only threaten with it–but never use it–you are an empty suit. impeachment may not bring the penultimate result we want, but it can and should force sunlight into the situation.

Sundance always stresses how important Sunlight is in exposing corruption. The recent text released by the House and Ways Committe is a great example.
This is why when Tucker was given the responsibility to reveal the J-6 tapes he let us down. The one day he showed the tapes his ratings tripled and the man with horns was eventually released.
    Now Special Council Smith
is preparing an indictment on President Trump for J6. If the entire J6 tapes were released this might have set a road block to that strategy.
Janet Yellen is withholding hundreds of suspicious transactions by Hunter.
The FBI is withholding or redacting important evidence.
The Republicans have to be more aggressive is securing evidence to bring sunlight to the corruption. If it means bringing in the US Marshal’s so be it.
The Government corruption has to be played out in the court of public opinion because the Senate will never bring justice.
Exposing Biden, Garland’s DOJ and Wray’s FBI corruption will benefit Trump case.

  13. some reps are trying to get ahead of goober declaring a national climate emergency over climate change…
    entire article

Republican Texas Rep. August Pfluger and West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito introduced legislation Monday morning aiming to preempt any possible attempt by President Joe Biden to use emergency powers to circumvent congressional checks on his administration’s sweeping climate agenda.

“The Real Emergencies Act” would clarify that the president is unable to invoke emergency powers permitted by the National Emergencies Act, the Disaster Relief and Emergencies Act and the Public Health Service Act on the basis of a perceived climate change crisis. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other left-wing congressional lawmakers have called for Biden to declare a national climate emergency to further his administration’s aggressive climate agenda.

“I am proud to join Senator Capito in introducing the Real Emergencies Act, which will prevent the White House from distracting from real emergencies – like skyrocketing inflation and record-high energy costs – by declaring climate change a national emergency,” Pfluger told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Our legislation ensures that President Biden does not abuse the power of his office to pursue his anti-American energy agenda against the will of the American people.”

Schumer said in January 2021 that a declaration of climate emergency would enable Biden to “do many, many things under the emergency powers of the President that wouldn’t have to go through – that he could do without legislation.” Schumer’s comments came as the Inflation Reduction Act had stalled in congress amid Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin’s initial refusal to support many of the bill’s provisions in an evenly-divided Senate.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) similarly urged Biden to invoke emergency powers on the basis of a perceived climate emergency to “invoke authorities under the Defense Production Act and Trade Expansion Act, mobilizing domestic industry to manufacture affordable renewable energy technologies.” The CPC also demanded in the same March 2022 document that Biden unilaterally ban fossil fuel leasing on federal lands and halt all crude oil exports, some four months before Manchin eventually reached a July 2022 deal with Schumer to support the Inflation

With Manchin’s support secured, Biden was able to sign the Inflation Reduction Act into law in August 2022, about three months before Republicans regained control of the House in the 2022 midterms. As a candidate for the presidency in 2019, Biden delivered a personal “guarantee” that his administration would “end fossil fuels.”

Under the auspices of Biden’s COVID-19 emergency powers, the Biden administration imposed an indefinite pause on student loan payments as well as a federal eviction moratorium. Biden only ended the declared COVID-19 national emergency in April 2023, more than six months after admitting in September 2022 that the pandemic was “over.”

“The Biden administration has repeatedly governed by executive overreach when it comes to energy and environmental regulations, ignoring the law and doing so without congressional approval,” Capito told the DCNF. “The Real Emergencies Act would ensure the president cannot go further by declaring a national emergency, which would grant him more executive authority and grow the size of government all in the name of climate change.”

The Espionage Act is one of the most un-American laws Congress has ever enacted. If elected, I will ask Congress to repeal it and will instruct the U.S. Department of Justice to stop enforcing it in the meantime.

Enacted by the Godfather of the Administrative State himself, Woodrow Wilson, the Act was passed to quash antiwar political dissent during World War I. It criminalized not only spying for enemies, but also any attempt to encourage “disloyalty” among military ranks. Prosecutors enforced the act aggressively, using it to imprison hundreds of antiwar activists and political dissenters.

There are almost surely hundreds of violations of the Espionage Act every day, but politically disfavored opponents are the ones who are ultimately targeted. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was indicted under this law, but the Washington press corps reports leaked information with impunity.

Of course, the U.S. must prosecute spies and protect national secrets, but the Espionage Act isn’t necessary to do so. More than a dozen more-specific federal statutes criminalize spying, hacking and misuse of government records.

The Espionage Act nullifies, or at least confounds, subsequently enacted laws that apply to specific types of government documents. The Presidential Records Act of 1978 gives the president the sole authority to decide what records to take with him when he leaves office. The indictment of Mr. Trump, which doesn’t even mention the Presidential Records Act, suggests the Espionage Act is again a weapon against dissent, as it was in 1917.
