There’s No House In The World Like This One In Idaho—The Sluice Box

Idaho has dozens of odd, unique, and artistic residential houses, but few are able to be enjoyed or appreciated up close and personal without the term “trespassing” being tossed around. But this radical, eclectic shop/home in Idaho City has been a landmark and tourist favorite for decades, and has a heartwarming story to go with it. Check it out!
Welcome to the Sluice Box.

Where that old saying about “another man’s treasure” is actually the life’s work of one couple with big dreams in small-town Idaho.

To quote a fellow writer, “It looks as though someone coated a normal two-story house in super glue, then dumped the contents of a well-stocked second-hand store on top of it. And then left it to rust and age for twenty years.”This second-hand and antique shop in Idaho City was hand-built by one man: Larry Carter.

Larry was the master builder and visionary. Wife Ruthie is the antiques expert.
The massive inventory of unique objects was collected partly through travels across the Northwest.

But this eclectic Idaho landmark also has quite the story to tell.

The store originally opened in the 1970s in downtown Idaho City, where it quickly gained popularity as a treasure trove for antique lovers. Ruthie and Larry Carter relocated the shop into a late 1800s building where it stayed until it was caught fire in 1996. From there, despite numerous health concerns, Larry rebuilt the store from the ground up and filled it to the brim with collectibles, trinkets, and funky decor.Windmills, vintage signs, country decor…

And so much more.

The store consists of a maze of rooms and display cases all framed in genuine, reclaimed barn wood. There are custom built-ins, unique photos planted within the barn wood knotholes, and numerous other finds that you won’t see anywhere else. inside there are also hidden rooms and stairways, balconies, screened porches, hallways and at least one ‘official’ bedroom amidst the rooms on top of the unique store below.
There is also a small, overgrown garden nearby where nature is reclaiming Larry’s treasures in stunning feats of beauty, just the way he would have liked it.

Visitors often wonder if the massive shop, with its ever-evolving and winding interior, is haunted. Larry would say, “I hope so.”

Before his passing, Larry built towering eves, curved stairways, false rooms and a wide array of windowed lookouts on top of his masterpiece. As a young man, Larry became interested in tales of ghosts and supernatural stories — and while no reports of hauntings have been recorded, reportedly the tower that crowns the building maintained a permanent “open invitation” to any wandering, otherworldly souls.
Sadly, the store was recently sold in 2014.

But this beautifully rustic homage to one man’s passion remains standing and at last report, will be reopening soon.
One of the wonderful things about Idaho is that our landscape and towns have such phenomenal history, made personal with stories such as this. You can see more photos of this quaint antique shop on the Sluice Box’s Facebook page as well.
UPDATE: I was able to find out that the place has reopened in 2021. They are closed during the week and the winter but open on weekends throughout spring to fall. There have been some changes, but I refuse to go to facebook to see what they are. (There are recent claims that the place is haunted, but Larry never claimed that.) The Lobby Coffee is now inside and sells coffee and pastries.

Morning All!
it’s about 50* outside and you can still smell the smoke in the air from Canada…another overcast day here.

BREAKING: 12 Republicans from the @freedomcaucus
just voted to strike down the House procedural rules on this week’s legislation, blocking them from being considered for a vote, as payback for how leadership handled the debt ceiling.
Specifically over them threatening Rep. Andrew Clyde with withholding his bill blocking the ATF’s pistol brace rule if he voted against the debt ceiling deal.
It’s the first time since 2002 a majority party has lost a rule vote.

REVEALED: DeSantis fundraiser is hosted by lobbyist for Moderna, company that makes puberty blockers, AND a sanctioned Chinese firm: Florida governor is accused of hypocrisy for $1,000-a-place DC event
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12165391/DeSantis-fundraiser-lobbyist-Moderna-puberty-blockers-sanctioned-Chinese-company.html
A lobbyist for vaccine manufacturer Moderna and for the maker of a leading puberty blocker given to transgender children is holding a fundraising event for Ron DeSantis in Washington D.C. this month.
It puts the Florida governor in an awkward position as he tries to ride anti-vaxxer sentiment and his record restricting gender-affirming treatment all the way to the White House.
He is pressing for a grand jury investigation into Moderna and has banned transgender treatment for minors in Florida.
The Trump campaign quickly slammed DeSantis, accusing him of hypocrisy as he did the bidding of his ‘globalist masters.’
The controversy stems from an event to be held at the offices of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, D.C.’s biggest federal lobbying firm, on June 23. DeSantis supporters can buy a place with a $1,000 donation, according to an invitation obtained by DailyMail.com.
One of the hosts is Marc Lampkin, a partner at the firm…
He has been registered as a lobbyist for Moderna, manufacturer of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine, since February 2021.
Filings show he is also registered for AbbVie, maker of puberty blocker Lupron, since 2014. The drug was given to trans children in Florida to pause puberty, but its use is now in doubt since DeSantis signed a bill banning the use of such drugs for new patients under 18.
And Foreign Agents Registration Act papers show that he represented Fujian Jinhua, a Chinese state-owned maker of semiconductors. In 2018, it was sanctioned by the Trump administration, which said it was a security threat.
Senior Trump aide Jason Miller slammed the linkup.
‘It’s no surprise Ron DeSanctimonious would do a fundraiser with a lobbyist for a Chinese semiconductor company considering his globalist masters at the Club for No Growth have a China First trade policy,’ he said…

Uh, no to Amazon, thank you! I cannot see ever completely doing away with brick & mortar stores. I went by to pay Jerry for the mower work and discovered that Mark (his son) had sold one side of their building to some people who are bringing in a hardware store – yeah!!! Jerry’s wife died 4 years ago and she was the one who did all the billing and paperwork so I figured changes would be made.
We need a hardware store since the only one here burned down a few years ago – yeah, we can go to Osmond, less than 10 minutes away, but this is much handier. I hadn’t been there in several years and walked into what I thought was their front office only to discover some people I’d never seen before getting the hardware store set up. Jerry’s “office” is now in a workspace at the back of Mark’s shop. But, then, Jerry is even older than me, I would guess in his 80’s.

I agree. i like to deal face to face with people.
although, i do use amazon to send things to my mom. I introduced her to sneaker balls this past weekend and she really liked them. so i ordered her a bunch on amazon and they’ll be there today. same with her dish drainer. her metal one is rusting. so rather than have her friend buy one and her have to pay for gas, i ordered it on amazon.

The Marxists and Fascists in the DOJ & FBI are going after me at a level and speed never seen before in our Country, and I did nothing wrong. Joe Biden kept (keeps) thousand of documents, in many locations, some illegally taken from skiffs while he was a Senator, a big portion of which were classified. He didn’t want to give them back, and still doesn’t. Nothing happens to him, with same reasonable prosecutor who correctly exonerated Mike Pence. I have a much different prosecutor, a Trump hater!

Debunking another false claim that Trump violated national security law
the Supreme Court stated that the President has plenary power over document classification
Neither Congress nor the rule-makers in the various administrative agencies that report to the President may limit this power. The President does not need to follow any procedure to declassify documents. If he treats them as declassified, they are declassified. That’s how plenary power works.

VERY long article but interesting background info on the Freemasons and the occult.
EXCERPT: “Located near the California-Arizona state line and the Mexican border, the town of Felicity was built on 8,000 acres of desertic land, in a place some would define as “in the middle of nowhere”. However, to other people, this exact location is extremely significant. In fact, Felicity was officially designated “the center of the world” by both California’s Imperial County and France’s Institut Geographique National.
How can one even determine the center of a spherical globe, might you ask? Well, we can’t. Like everything else relating to Felicity, one must look beyond the literal and understand the occult symbolism behind it all. For instance, the official “center of the world” is located inside a 21-foot-tall pyramid.

But that is only the beginning. When one takes the time to explore this odd place and dig into its bizarre history, one important fact becomes obvious: It is a creation of the occult elite.
Felicity

“The weirdness begins!”
As you can see above, the town of Felicity has a population of 2: The town’s founder Jacques-André Istel and his wife Felicia. While this sign looks like a goofy tourist attraction, none of this is a joke: The town was officially recognized by California’s Board of Supervisors in 1986, with all of the paperwork that comes with it.
That’s the thing about Felicity: Everything about it seems to scream out a “kitschy tourist trap” yet everything behind it says “dead serious occult activity hotspot”. And, as we’ll soon see, this place is full of symbolism that is unmistakably Masonic. In order to fully understand the origins of this place, we must first look at the background of its founder.
The founders and the only inhabitants of Felicity.
Felicity was founded by Jacques-André Istel, a man with an interesting background and an even more interesting family: ‘A French-American, Istel has a varied background, working on Wall Street and serving as a marine in the Korean War before becoming well-known for being a famous parachutist. He co-founded Parachutes, Inc, the country’s first parachuting school, and is often credited with bringing parachuting to the American mainstream.
– CultureTrip, Everything You Need to Know About Felicity
When one looks at Istel’s immediate family, a word immediately comes to mind: Elite.
Istel’s father André was a diplomat and investment banker who represented Charles de Gaulle at Bretton Woods – the historic Monetary and Financial Conference of the United Nations1944.”

Our Take: “The House Freedom Caucus is frustrated with Washington, but it’s hard to feel sympathy for them given they caved and elected McCarthy Speaker. This is what we all expected would happen. McCarthy is exactly the Speaker we thought he’d be.
McCarthy has repeatedly lied and reneged on the concessions he made during the Speaker negotiation, from releasing all the J6 footage to fiscal responsibility, to the many ‘rules’ concessions that HFC members touted as wins. The footage is still being withheld, the debt ceiling bill eliminated any possibility of fiscal responsibility, and the House has repeatedly — as recently as Monday for a series of finance-related bills — suspended the rules to pass legislation this session.
The latest move by the HFC has resulted in a standoff over the rules (again,) which is holding up the next round of laws from being voted upon. This tactic only works if the Democrats continue to vote against and, as we saw with the debt ceiling bill, McCarthy has the coalition he needs to pass whatever he wants.
‘We’re not going to live in the era of the imperial speaker anymore,’ Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said.
Again, I’m really struggling to have sympathy here. It’s been exactly five months since McCarthy became Speaker. Is five months enough to qualify as an era? It’s really more of a quicker-than-expected ‘I told you so.’” — Ashe in America

when they built our log home, apparently they were too cavalier with the flashing and the sill plate. heavy rains got under that and rotted out a small section by the door. the entryway was tiled and you feel the tiles go down if you walked in that spot. we tore up the tiles, he removed the door. that’s when we saw the damage that the water had done. it was confined to a small space thankfully. he removed the damaged portions and replaced the subflooring so we can retile the floor after we stain the door.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Walking the beach in Florida, you never know what the waves will bring in. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said it’s been called multiple times in the last few days for people finding large amounts of cocaine washed up on the beach and both times it was in Ormond Beach. “We went to our normal spot and went and walked the beach. It was just typical,” Lauren Bevan said. “Looking down for stuff and there’s this black, book type thing just on the shore. It was just sitting on the shore, not even in the waves.” Bevan’s beach walk turned into her finding over a kilogram of cocaine.”
New York Post reporting – Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday threw out the welcome mat at Gracie Mansion to migrants — saying he’d be happy to house asylum-seekers at the site, which boasts grandeur most New Yorkers can only dream about.
“I am a big believer in leading from the front,” Adams said when asked by The Post if he would offer up his own stately, historic Upper East Side home as part of the city’s new plan to pay to house migrants in private residences.
“If it doesn’t go against legal protocols — there are protocols in place so I can’t use the building in any way I want — but I don’t have a problem if I could put a migrant family in Gracie Mansion.”
