There’s No House In The World Like This One In Idaho—The Sluice Box

Idaho has dozens of odd, unique, and artistic residential houses, but few are able to be enjoyed or appreciated up close and personal without the term “trespassing” being tossed around. But this radical, eclectic shop/home in Idaho City has been a landmark and tourist favorite for decades, and has a heartwarming story to go with it. Check it out!

Welcome to the Sluice Box.

Where that old saying about “another man’s treasure” is actually the life’s work of one couple with big dreams in small-town Idaho.

To quote a fellow writer, “It looks as though someone coated a normal two-story house in super glue, then dumped the contents of a well-stocked second-hand store on top of it. And then left it to rust and age for twenty years.”This second-hand and antique shop in Idaho City was hand-built by one man: Larry Carter.

Larry was the master builder and visionary. Wife Ruthie is the antiques expert.

The massive inventory of unique objects was collected partly through travels across the Northwest.

But this eclectic Idaho landmark also has quite the story to tell.

The store originally opened in the 1970s in downtown Idaho City, where it quickly gained popularity as a treasure trove for antique lovers. Ruthie and Larry Carter relocated the shop into a late 1800s building where it stayed until it was caught fire in 1996. From there, despite numerous health concerns, Larry rebuilt the store from the ground up and filled it to the brim with collectibles, trinkets, and funky decor.Windmills, vintage signs, country decor…

And so much more.

The store consists of a maze of rooms and display cases all framed in genuine, reclaimed barn wood. There are custom built-ins, unique photos planted within the barn wood knotholes, and numerous other finds that you won’t see anywhere else. inside there are also hidden rooms and stairways, balconies, screened porches, hallways and at least one ‘official’ bedroom amidst the rooms on top of the unique store below.

There is also a small, overgrown garden nearby where nature is reclaiming Larry’s treasures in stunning feats of beauty, just the way he would have liked it.

Visitors often wonder if the massive shop, with its ever-evolving and winding interior, is haunted. Larry would say, “I hope so.”

Before his passing, Larry built towering eves, curved stairways, false rooms and a wide array of windowed lookouts on top of his masterpiece. As a young man, Larry became interested in tales of ghosts and supernatural stories — and while no reports of hauntings have been recorded, reportedly the tower that crowns the building maintained a permanent “open invitation” to any wandering, otherworldly souls.

Sadly, the store was recently sold in 2014.

But this beautifully rustic homage to one man’s passion remains standing and at last report, will be reopening soon.

One of the wonderful things about Idaho is that our landscape and towns have such phenomenal history, made personal with stories such as this. You can see more photos of this quaint antique shop on the Sluice Box’s Facebook page as well.

UPDATE: I was able to find out that the place has reopened in 2021.  They are closed during the week and the winter but open on weekends throughout spring to fall. There have been some changes, but I refuse to go to facebook to see what they are.  (There are recent claims that the place is haunted, but Larry never claimed that.)  The Lobby Coffee is now inside and sells coffee and pastries.

    ENTIRE ARTICLE: “A longtime government employee and newfound “whistleblower” claims to have submitted evidence to Congress that the United States government has several “non-human” spacecraft in its possession.

    The shocking assertion, forwarded by David Grusch, a well-credentialed former member of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, is certainly making waves in the media. The claims even found their way into the first episode of the invaluable Tucker Carlson’s new show on Twitter. [Check out Tucker’s epic monologue, it is well worth 10 minutes of your time]

    Here at The Dossier, we prefer to verify information, and not trust sources based on their resume, regardless of how impressive it may seem. Here’s Grusch’s interview with News Nation, where he tells his side of the story:

    So with that being said, there are three major issues with the idea that the United States government possesses alien aircraft on Earth.

    First and foremost, there are obvious physical limitations of an alien species traveling to our world successfully from millions of light years away. To put it bluntly, it would require a scientific breakthrough that is not currently within the framework of our understanding of physics. Given this level of improbability, this is the one massive, glaring problem with any UFO story, and it should leave an enormous burden of proof on the individual or entity advancing any claims within this genre.

    Second, to date, there has never been any public evidence revealed that demonstrates the existence of extraterrestrial life. While it would be unwise to rule out that possibly entirely, we must remain humble in recognizing our very small space in a massive universe.

    Third, if you read carefully into the first reported story on Mr Grusch’s claims, which appeared in the UFO-friendly The Debrief website, a sharp investigative eye will take notice of a flagrant issue. *Grusch has never actually seen these supposed spacecraft first hand!* Grusch has admitted that he hasn’t even seen any photos of the evidence, let alone having been in the presence of these alleged objects.

    Yes, his carefully crafted narrative is based on “extensive interviews with high-level intelligence officials, some of whom are directly involved with the program,” The Debrief reported. In short, he’s’ relying on other people. It’s a major, scorching hot, red flag for multiple reasons.

    There’s an additional issue on top of that. These “high-level intelligence officials” are unnamed, and shielded in anonymity, so there will be no accountability when the latest alien frenzy bites the dust. Who are the actual individuals who saw the alleged spacecraft? Why haven’t they come forward? What’s stopping them from revealing these UFOs to the world?

    Grusch has positioned himself in a way in which he is not accountable at all for the information he is claiming to reveal. Zero evidence. Zero non-anonymous sources. Zero credibility. We rest our case.”

    The walls really started closing in (if you’ll pardon the expression) on Licht after former President Trump’s CNN town hall triumph last month. Because Trump was allowed to state his beliefs and come off as charming and in command, the Woke Nazis in the media, including at CNNLOL, freaked out. Licht tried to trip Trump up. Of course, he did. He’s a leftist. His mistake was having a lightweight like Kaitlan “Nurse Ratched” Collins moderate. She tried her worst, Trump did his best, and the Woke Gestapo never forgives.

    According to the Wall Street Journal Wednesday, several of CNN’s discredited serial liars and bigots, like Jake Tapper, Anderson Cooper, and Erin Burnett—the very reason CNN can’t average 500,000 primetime viewers—were out there stabbing Licht in the back.

    I don’t have any sympathy for Licht. He was awful at his job. You can’t fix CNN by hanging on to the disgraced liars like Tapper, Cooper, and Burnett responsible for the network’s collapse. But he was also handed an impossible job. The CNN brand is irreparable. Former CEO Jeff Zucker and his mob of dishonest, partisan worshipers woke-raped CNN into a national joke.

    Meet the new boss: ‘In the interim, [Warner Bros. Discover chairman David] Zazlav said the leadership team will be comprised of Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent and content development; Virginia Moseley, executive vice president of editorial; and Eric Sherling, executive vice president of U.S. programming. David Leavy, who was recently installed as chief operating officer, will continue overseeing the company’s commercial activities.’

    So that’s the good news in all of this… CNN is doomed no matter who’s in charge. This Entelis lady will almost certainly cater to the “talent,” which means CNN will only get worse with its toxicity and misinformation. Which, ironically, will be the only way CNN can boost its viewership from, say, 500,000 to 550,000.

    You see, all CNN can do at this point is try to repair the damage after the Trump town hall. But what does that mean? Well, that’s the juicy part. CNN has to move left-left-left… The only viewers CNN can ever hope to gain are the left-wing lunatics who hate Trump and love exposing children incapable of consent to gay porn, transvestites, and drag queens. That’s the only move this clown car can make because decent and normal people, those of us tired of being lied to, manipulated, insulted, and scolded, will never go back.

    Yes, CNN might have a chance if it fired its disgraced on-air staff responsible for all of this…

    …but that’s never going to happen because they would all have to go, every single one of them, and Warner Bros. Discovery wants its CNN Brownshirts out there doing what they have done for nearly a decade–spreading lies, hate, division, bigotry, conspiracy theories, and violence.

    The real joy in all of this is that CNN is so discredited and irrelevant now that all this backstabbing and corporate maneuvering is like watching ants go to war in a jar. All this silly and bitter drama is happening in a sealed environment that in no way affects the real world. For all it matters to the rest of us, Tapper, Cooper, and Burnett might as well be tattling on Licht to the principal.

    Other than the lulz, nothing CNN does matters. P.S. Now that CNN is back off the leash, anyone who lives in a predominantly black neighborhood might want to make sure their fire insurance is up to date.

    Back in August 2022 when the Biden regime raided Mar-a-Lago The Gateway Pundit reported that the FBI “had a personal stake” in retrieving documents at Mar-a-Lago. They were after Spygate documents!

It’s been 19 months as the DOJ defies the order, and every FOIA request to make it public.
