E.T. Phone Home

Today marks the anniversary of the premier of E.T. at the Cannes Film Festival in 1982.  In honor of that event, I bring the following puzzle from GAMES World of Puzzles, called E.T. Phone Home.  Each answer begins with “E T”.  For example, if the clue was “Exam often taken in a blue book” then the answer would be Essay Test.

ELON MUSK IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.
Tesla Teams Up With CureVac To Make ‘RNA Microfactories’ For Covid Shots

German vaccine maker CureVac has lost some shine in the race for a Covid shot after other mRNA-based hopefuls have captured regulators’ attention

Even so, CureVac has reportedly snared a big partner to help build its game-changing RNA “printers” that could turn global interest back in its favor.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted Thursday that the electric carmaker had signed on with CureVac to make portable molecular RNA printers—what Musk appeared to refer to as “RNA microfactories”—to help produce doses of the German vaccine maker’s COVID-19 shot candidate.

Musk said his company was working on the printers as a “side project” and could take on additional partners in the future.

CureVac has previously touted its work on portable “printers” for its mRNA-based vaccines, which would allow the company to produce shots at scale in farflung locations without the standard logistical concerns.

  2. Sliding on down….will go back and read what I missed. Man, did I ever get a LOT done! Mowed front and back, with my brand new Fisker pruners in my pocket and my new rubber-coated gloves, cut out saplings, pruned a bunch of the willow tree branches, cleaned out ALL of the saplings, tiny evergreens, weeds, etc. from under the cottonwood tree – I haven’t done that in years!!!

As I was mowing the east end of the back yard, I saw a big patch of dirt in the center and figured the ground squirrels had dug another tunnel, except they never leave that much dirt. I knew I would hit it the next go-round so as I did, I went over about 4″ of the dirt spot. As I drove away, I looked back and at the other end, there was a tiny little bunny scampering out of what was clearly their nest, then another one, then another…..on my next go-round, I figured I’d better check to make sure they all got out. Sure enough, there was one more tucked back in the corner so I scooped him up and took him to the fence, showed him the hole and sent him on his way under the evergreen. On my way back to the mower, what do I see but another of them crouched down, thinking he was hiding in the cut grass. So I encouraged him to head for the fence line and off he went to join his siblings.

Unfortunately, the neighborhood cats will probably get them but at least they were old enough to really hop, with eyes clearly wide open. Here’s the odd thing: the nest was comprised of a hole dug into the ground and it was one of the neatest, straightest oblong sections, about 5″ X 8,” that I’ve ever seen – like a ruler was used to draw the outline. Straight as a pin! Amazing!

The only suet still hanging now is the woodpecker block – it contains more seeds than suet and is much harder so the blackbirds don’t bother it much. They were doing their hanging-upside-down on the one under the eaves, too. I refuse to feed those bastids! SMDH

  3. “There’s an old episode of ‘The Outer Limits’ that I’m always reminded of when I hear about neuralink. In the episode “Stream of Consciousness” everyone is connected to a neural network except one man who can’t receive the implant, and he’s viewed as imbecilic by those who have the implant. I wonder if that’s how it will be, people like me who refuse the implant will be viewed as less than by the linked population…”

    1. “Elon Musk’s brain-implant startup Neuralink has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin the company’s first human clinical study, the agency said.

The company is working on a device that will allow people to control computer interfaces with their brains. Neuralink said the devices would help restore vision and enable people with severe disabilities to move and communicate by decoding brain activity.

Neuralink plans to open clinics where surgical robots will implant the devices into the brains of patients. The robot surgeon threads Neuralink’s proprietary electrodes, or brain-signal recording wires, into the brain.

“We are excited to share that we have received the FDA’s approval to launch our first-in-human clinical study,” Neuralink said in a tweet. “This is the result of incredible work by the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA and represents an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people.”

  4. “The recent Durham Report exposed inexcusable moves done by the FBI (and by many others, too). But FBI abuses do not stop there. In fact, Rep. Jim Jordan tells Glenn that recent actions from the agency — like its attempt to CRUSH whistleblowers who speak out — may be worse than the ones Durham revealed. In this clip, Glenn and Rep. Jordan discuss the recent FBI whistleblower hearing, the way the FBI tries to silence anyone who speaks out, and why recent FBI actions hurt more than a presidential campaign — they’re deeply affecting the everyday American, too…”

  5. “The debt ceiling melodrama is a Uniparty diversion from reality — There is no real resistance in D.C. to the growth of government and the money printing fiasco.”
    JORDAN SCHACHTEL
    MAY 26, 2023

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The Swamp People want to convince you that they truly care about our government’s expansion and spending addiction, and they’re putting on a show for every television camera they can find. According to the corporate media narrative, Republicans are said to be “holding the line” with excruciating cuts to your grandma’s social security. Democrats are seeking a clean increase for the most malleable “debt ceiling” ever installed, given that it has been raised 78 times since 1960.

With America being well over $30 trillion in debt, you would think that these democratically elected legislators would act as responsible stewards for the fiscal health of their constituents.

Unfortunately, that label only applies to somewhere between two to four percent (that might be too generous) of the 535 members of Congress. Most of the American ruling class suffers greatly from a disease called high time preference, which is incentivized by our broken economic system, and Congress is certainly not immunized from this disease.

Legislators are now reportedly closing in on a deal that will reduce spending by a whopping 0.2%. Yes, you read that correctly. They want to roll back spending by 0.2% of GDP. And it gets worse when you put it in its proper context. In 2022, the government spent $6.3 trillion, an almost 50% hike over pre-pandemic levels. The federal deficit in 2022 was $1.4 trillion.

The White House and Congress weaponized the covid hysteria era to normalize a 6 trillion plus (and counting) dollar budget. There is no real resistance to this agenda, as both parties operate within the confines of the continually moving goal posts. The Biden Administration wants to spend $6.9 trillion this year. Republicans want a PR win and want to “cut” spending from the earth shattering $6.3 trillion number from 2022, but only ever so slightly.

The two sides are said to be closing in on a “compromise” that would result in a miniscule reduction (reportedly somewhere around 0.2% of GDP) in exchange for a debt ceiling increase. This would still result in well over a trillion dollars in annual deficits, meaning, America’s massive sovereign debt bubble continues to reach new heights, and it’s fully supported in a bipartisan fashion.

Heritage economist Peter St Onge said it best when he remarked on Twitter that the deal will “slow the train from 80mph to 79.8 mph.”

It’s become clear that the people in charge are committed to the continuation of the economic crisis. The good news, of course, is that thanks to the innovation that is Bitcoin, Americans and other victims of central banking madness no longer have to tether their fiscal futures to the cantillionaire class.”

      1. Tell me about it! When I was at the Pentagon, for every 10 “secretaries,” maybe 2 were REALLY good. And, of course, the Project Officers would, therefore, give all their work to the good ones…meanwhile, the others are lazing their asses around every day, accomplishing nothing. But you cannot fire anyone – a HUGE no-no if they are black – and I’m sure it’s even worse now.

  6. Well, I’m a great-grandma! My GD, Ashley, delivered her baby girl via c-section, named Scarlett Jamie (which is what we called her Dad when he was little – he decided at the age of 12 that he liked James better – sounded more grown-up), on May 23, the day before my GS, Gage’s BD and 3 days before her own BD!!! Her BP was off the charts – she has been on bedrest for 2 months – her Dad’s death REALLY messed her up emotionally and it will be a very long time before she comes to terms with that. They decided to take the baby 1 month early – even then, she was over 6 lbs – spent one day in the NICU and then was discharged. All is well and she has a great partner/boy friend – I don’t think they ever married but they’ve been together for probably 10 years at least.

      1. Oh, no – they live in GA and I haven’t been on speaking terms with her for a long time – she was butt-buddies with my SIL and will take his side every time. I tried and tried and tried to tell her, thru her Mom (Ashley had requested that I communicate thru her) that they murdered her Dad but it never got to her. TBH, she was too shattered to care, I think. They were VERY, VERY close! There were other inter-family squabbles going on at the same time, between her Dad’s adopted Mom and half-brothers. She couldn’t even get his medical records! She might send a pic to Gage (he called to tell me) and at least I’ll be able to see her anyway.

  8. This is stupid, IMO! If a student cheats on a test with some device, you don’t blame the fricking device! You blame (1) yourself for allowing cell phones in school, which I’m sure is a big part of the problem; (2) the student and, in this case, (3) the student’s parents for not supervising them properly!!!!

              1. “You’re probably familiar with at least one type of Ground Squirrel – the Prairie Dog! Although there are other types of ground squirrels, Prairie Dogs have all of the characteristic features that identify this group of rodents. As their name suggests, they spend most of their time in burrows in open, grassy areas. It’s common to see them in parks, ball fields, golf courses, and open prairies. Ground Squirrels are true omnivores that eat anything they can, including eggs, insects, plants, and even smaller mammals.

The easiest way to recognize these rodents in Nebraska is by looking at their unique stance! They rear up on their back legs, curl their paws across their chest, and look around as if they’re waiting for something.”
