The word “mink” is used for the two sole species of these animals still residing on the planet.
These semi-aquatic species are the American mink (Neovison vison) and the European mink (Mustela lutreola).
American mink roam all over both Canada and the United States, although they are nonexistent in a handful of states and regions — think Arizona and Hawaii.
European mink, true to their monikers, live all the way across the pond in nations such as Spain, France and Russia.
Although both types of mink are undeniably similar animals, they have their fair share of individual qualities, too.
The American mink is larger and more adaptable than the European mink but, due to variations in size, an individual mink usually cannot be determined as European or American with certainty without looking at the skeleton.
In the wild, mink are small, discreet, and most often nocturnal, and they live in close proximity to water.
The lifespan of minks is about 3 years in the wild and up to 10 years in captivity.
The male weighs about 2.2 lb and is about 24 in in length. The female weighs about 1.32 lb and reaches a length of about 20 in. The sizes above do not include the tail which can be from 5.0 in to 9.0 in.
The body is long and slender with short legs and a pointy, flat face. The toes are partially webbed, showing the mink’s semi-aquatic nature.
A mink’s rich glossy coat in its wild state is brown and looks silky, but farm-bred mink can vary from white to almost black. Their pelage is deep, rich brown, with or without white spots on the underparts, and consists of a slick, dense underfur overlaid with dark, glossy, almost stiff guard hairs.
Minks have excellent senses of vision, smell, and hearing.
A mink can run at speeds up to 8 mph.
Minks are carnivores. The diet of mink varies with the season. During the summer it consists of crayfish and small frogs, along with small mammals such as shrews, rabbits, mice, and muskrats. Fish, ducks and other water fowl provide additional food choices. In the winter, they primarily prey on mammals.
Mink are very territorial animals. A male mink will not tolerate another male within its territory, but appears to be less aggressive towards females. Generally, the territories of both male and female animals are separate, but a female’s territory may sometimes overlap with that of a male.
Mink communicate using a variety of cues, including chemical, visual, and auditory signals. They are fairly quiet, but rely heavily on chemical signaling for communicating territorial boundaries and reproductive status.
The breeding season lasts April to May. Although the true gestation period is 39 days, the embryo may stop developing for a variable period, so that as long as 76 days may elapse before the litter arrives. Between 45 and 52 days is normal. There is only one litter per year. They may have between six and ten cubs or kittens per litter. Young are weaned at about 10 weeks, and begin tracking and capturing prey. Young begin to disperse at about 2.5 to 4 months.
Mink have few natural enemies. They are occasionally killed by coyotes, bobcats and other carnivores, but their main threat remains humans.
These creatures are related to ermines, ferrets and weasels and look much like their relatives.
The main threat towards mink survival is the continued existence of the fur market.
Mink pelts have for years been considered one of the most luxurious furs on the market. Originally all fur came from natural populations, causing a severe strain on the species.
However, starting in the mid-1900s, mink ranches were established to help bring a more consistent pelt supply to the market. Ranching was very successful, with the number of mink ranches in the United States reaching a high of 7200 during the mid-1960s.
Mink are kept in captivity primarily for the production of their fur.

Morning All!
another chilly start this morning 38*!
we’ve seen 2 mink in all our years here in the woods. one the first year we were here and then again the summer of not much rain a few years ago.
we watched this black animal come down the “waterfall” path and then dip into the pond. we originally thought it was a small bear cub till it got closer. long and sleek , it dipped in the water for a bit before it went back up into the woods.

Morning, Pat! I’ve never seen one personally – they remind me of river otters. My internet has stayed connected since Sunday night – I’m not closing the connection until they get their ass up here with a replacement router. I am very disappointed with them – I had hoped that a “local” NE company would be more customer-friendly. I have had issues with this router the entire time but chose not to bitch at them every time. I just jiggled the plug and carried on. The right thing would have been to replace it as soon as Jake discovered the defective plug! I am done with that – no more extra consideration for them since they clearly have none for me.
It only got down to 55 here last night – mid to high 50’s at night for the next week and in the 80’s every day. BTW, I rescued another Oriole from the jelly feeder – a female this time and man, was she ever feisty! She was trying to bite me and kept biting at the towel as I dried her off. When I released her, she was making short flights off into the back yard.

Morning Filly!
when we had the satellite installed, a guy came from elmira to do it–that’s a little over an hour from here. sigh. if we need new things, they just mail them.
that’s amazing about the 2nd oriole! have you had this problem before (I forgot if you said this before). what do you think is causing this to happen??
my little feeder is nothing like yours. I took the bottom from an old hummer feeder, turned it upside down and glued a “dish” into the well. the dish was a bottom i cut off from a plastic sour cream container. I tied yarn to the sides so i could secure it to the railing. it has no top or anything so the oriole can fly all around the sides to eat. (it’s not pretty, but they like it…LOL)

No, I’ve never had this issue before, not in the 5 years that I’ve had it. But when I first bought it, the dish inside wasn’t as big as the cage itself – there was room for them to get inside to get the jelly, then climb back out, w/o getting jelly on themselves. It was specially shaped for that feeder, with velcro on the bottom to hold it down. That dish broke and there is no way to find an exact replacement, which is why I’ve been searching for a silicon pan I could put in there instead. I went with the aluminum foil pan since that’s all I could find that was flexible enough to fit inside. When the grape jelly thins out, I think it it get’s much stickier on the foil than it would on a plastic or silicon dish…..but wait….I just realized…I have a roll of velcro with sticky backing – I had an idea to use it on pieces of plastic to cover the patio windows in the winter, with the corresponding piece around the window, then it would be easier to put it up every winter. I put it up around one window and gave the corresponding piece to my Mom with a piece of plastic to try to stitch it…that went by the wayside and we’ve both forgotten about it.
If I find the right size bowl, I can put pieces on the bottom that match up with those actually in the cage. Yeah, that’s the ticket! Then they COULD get inside the cage and wouldn’t be as vulnerable to other orioles attacking them in fly-bys.
See? This is why I talk to myself – I have these convos as if I am explaining it to someone and often work out solutions that way.

🚨REMINDER🚨
Russia have been demanding a UN investigation into the US Biological network in Ukraine for 16+ months.
Russia claim they will cease fire if the US are investigated and former Russian territory is returned.
This is why Biden and the US cannot allow Ukraine to surrender.
The war in Ukraine is backlash for the creation and release of C19. Russian MIL directly accused Obama, Clinton, Soros, and Biden of being the main ideologues behind the plot.
This is why hundreds of billions of our tax dollars were sent to Ukraine. Not to “protect democracy” or the Ukrainian People… it’s to protect Deep State actors from the world discovering their crimes against humanity.
This is what’s really at stake.

If Biden and his phony professors and lawyers believe he has the power to unilateral raise the debt limit, then the main function of the House would cease to exist. It would be transferred to the president. The president, thereafter, would have the power to not only propose spending bills (budgets) but to fund them. I challenge Laurence Tribe and the others in this clown show to point to a single member of Congress or the state ratifying states, or a single speech back then, in which anyone made the case for such a government-altering policy. Just one. There are none. HOWEVER, Biden asserted yesterday from Japan that, in fact, he does have this power. He was only concerned that it could not be invoked in time, whatever that means.

I’ve not heard that term before and I can’t find anything on-line (most references that come up are auto racing) but I would guess they mean it is as good as it appears to be, i.e., the footing deep underneath is solid and firm. I didn’t watch it – was it a “muddy” track or wet?

“Quid Pro Joe–Smoking gun email shows Burisma’s ‘ultimate purpose’ of using Hunter’s connections to ‘close’ pursuits against Zlochevsky in Ukraine”
JON HEROLD
MAY 22, 2023
EXCERPT: ““I said, we will not recognize any nation having a sphere of influence. Sovereign states have the right to make their own decisions and choose their own alliances. Period.“
These powerful words were spoken during a speech given in Kyiv to the people of Ukraine. Looking back, this is truly one of the most monumental speeches of all time, because never has such hypocrisy been on display so brazenly. This speech was given by Joe Biden during his visit to Ukraine on December 9th, 2015.
It was during this visit to Ukraine, when he gave this speech, in which Biden threatened to withhold $1 Billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine unless they fired the prosecutor looking into Burisma, which just so happened to be paying Hunter Biden astronomical sums of money to be a “board member.” There is more to that story.
The ‘Truman’ Show — It was recently reported that Hunter Biden served on a national security advisory board with Jake Sullivan.
What this reporting overlooked was another individual who served on the board of the Truman National Security Project alongside Hunter and Jake. This other individual further entangles the current Biden administration with the alleged Biden family corruption, and should draw more scrutiny onto Hunter Biden’s role on the Board of Directors at Burisma while his father Joe, our current ‘President,’ was the “face of Barack Obama’s policy to Ukraine.”
The individual I’m referring to is Sally Painter of Blue Star Strategies. Sally and her co-founder, Karen Tramontano, can often be found in the emails pulled from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop.
A search for “Sally Painter” on Bidenlaptopemails.com shows she had been in contact with Hunter as far back as 03/04/2010. On 02/16/2011, Sally emailed Hunter, asking if he would consider a position on the board of the Truman National Security Project:
—————-
As stated previously, Jake Sullivan wouldn’t join the board with Sally and Hunter until sometime in 2017 when he was no longer serving a role in the State Department. Knowing that Biden, Painter, and Sullivan all served on the same board at Truman together led me to do a closer examination into Sally Painter’s role in Hunter Biden’s business dealings with Burisma and how they meshed with Joe Biden’s tenure as VP.
Burisma — While still searching for “Sally Painter” on Bidenlaptopemails.com, the first thing I could find connecting Sally to Hunter’s dealings with Burisma is an email dated 10/23/2015 titled “Schedule for Next week.” The email listed out Hunter Biden’s schedule for the week of October 26th, 2015. The email revealed that there was a meeting put on hold between Hunter, Devon Archer, and Vadym Pozharskyi, along with Sally Painter.”

The driver of a rented box truck that collided with a security barrier near the White House on Monday was arrested and charged, law enforcement officials said.
The U-Haul truck crashed at about 10 p.m. on the north side of Lafayette Square near the White House, officials said.
The suspect was identified as Sai Varshith Kandula, 19, of Chesterfield, Missouri, according to the U.S. Park Police.
Kandula was charged with five counts, including assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, trespassing and destruction of federal property, U.S. Park Police said.
He was also charged with threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on a president, vice president or their families, police said.
Kandula allegedly traveled from St. Louis to Dulles International Airport where he rented a U-Haul truck and drove to the White House, law enforcement sources told ABC News. After ramming the bollard, Kandula exited the vehicle and began waving a flag with what authorities say appeared to be a swastika on it, and that is when officers from the U.S. Park Police detained him.
The FBI interviewed Kandula and told law enforcement that he wanted to seize power, take over the government and kill the president, according to three law enforcement sources. Additionally, sources tell ABC News that authorities are looking at a mental health component to the investigation.
There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel, Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, said in a statement.
A “preliminary investigation reveals the driver may have intentionally struck” the barrier, he said.
The truck was cleared for potential explosives, a law enforcement official said.

majority of house repubs strongly suggest epa change their “guidance”
entire article
A majority of House Republicans joined together Monday in a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) taking aim at the “ill-considered effort” to force market transitions “under the guise of mitigating climate change.”
Led by House Energy and Commerce Committee chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.), 151 GOP representatives signed their names in opposition to EPA proposals on emission standards for vehicles come model year 2027.
Joined by members of leadership that included Majority Leader Steve Scalise (La.), Majority Whip Top Emmer (Minn.), and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY), the letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan called out President Joe Biden’s administration’s efforts to “commandeer America’s transportation sector” by regulating away the choice of American’s with no discernible benefit.
Ads by
“We write to express deep concerns with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) proposed standards for light- and medium-duty vehicles and heavy-duty trucks,” the letter began. “The proposals are the latest effort by the Biden administration to commandeer America’s transportation sector and force its complete vehicle electrification under the guise of mitigating climate change.”
“The light- and medium-duty vehicle proposed standards are unworkable and impractical. EPA estimates that the proposed standards would lead to electric vehicles (EVs) accounting for 67 percent of new light-duty vehicle sales and 46 percent of new medium-duty vehicle sales in the United States by model year 2032,” it continued.
“The projected statistics are a far cry from the current EV market share of 4.5 percent,” the letter said, citing data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), “making these standards a deliberate market manipulation to prop up EVs. Furthermore, a rapid shift towards EVs would benefit only the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), as China has a stranglehold on the critical minerals supply chain and manufacturing of EV batteries. For example, China currently controls 50 to 70 percent of global lithium and cobalt refining that are necessary for EV batteries.”
The IEA estimates that 75 percent of all lithium-ion batteries are produced in China. Furthermore, the nation corners the market on cathodes and anodes at 70 and 85 percent of global production respectively, both necessary battery components.
Additional data indicates that more than half of global lithium, cobalt and graphite processing and refining is conducted in the communist nation. As if worsening the United States’ already diminished energy independence weren’t enough, serious human rights concerns remain over the labor in nations like the Democratic Republic of the Congo in obtaining the necessary minerals from African Mines of which Chinese firms have large stakes in.
Following the EPA’s initial proposal, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld called out the elitist mindset of his peer Geraldo Rivera as representative of the detached bureaucracy detrimentally impacting the lives of regular people.
Gutfeld buries ‘raging elitist’ Geraldo in battle over electric vehicles: ‘You’re telling our audience to suck on it!’https://t.co/G5FuPDTHnx
— American Wire News (@americanwire_) April 13, 2023
After putting him on blast over his “EV Bentley,” Gutfeld tore into the farcical push for EVs and the green agenda as he said, “The green movement is tied up in knots right now. Electric cars exploit cheap human labor in Africa and in China. The climate predictions are falling apart, the smart folks are flocking to nuclear, and identity politics stole the thunder from the climate agenda. And how do you know that? You gotta look at ESG, right? Equity, social, governance… why are they packed together like that in companies? It’s because you couldn’t do climate on your own because no one bought it.”
“So, what they did is they married it to race and they married it to gender,” the host went on. “So, if you come out against ESG, it’s about you being a bigot, not about you being smart about the climate. None of their predictions have come true. None of them. They are fighting… they’re forcing America to do this crap over 1… less than a percent Celsius. … It has no effect.”
“And, in fact, as this climate gets warmer people’s lives improve. That’s a fact. That’s a fact,” Gutfeld repeated. People die from cold weather more frequently than from warm weather.”
Along with affordability concerns, the congressional letter went on to state the necessary usage to account for the lower emissions EPA date boasts of are currently “not being realized” and they concluded, “Given that the recent EPA announcement was only a proposal, we strongly urge you to rescind this ill-considered effort. Americans want the ability to choose the vehicle that best meets their needs, that is reliable, and that they can afford — not be forced into buying an EV.”

About those sat phones given to 50 Senators….who recommended them? Sergeant at Arms Karen Gibson…and who is Karen Gibson, you might ask….she is someone that I would wager General Flynn knows QUITE well!!! He was deeply involved in those very same agencies!!
From Wiki: “Gibson served in the United States Army for 33 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant General. Prior to her appointment as sergeant at arms, Gibson served as the deputy Director of National Intelligence for national security partnerships, director of intelligence for United States Central Command, director of intelligence for the Combined Joint Task Force, and deputy commanding general for the United States Army Cyber Command.”

“Is the Upcoming US/NATO Exercise “Air Defender 23” a Cover for an Attack on Russia?”
May 22, 2023 | Categories: Guest Contributions
EXCERPT: “Is the Upcoming US/NATO Exercise “Air Defender 23” a Cover for an Attack on Russia? Apparently the Biden regime is incapable of recognizing the risks of gratuitous provocations of Russia.
John Helmer is an Australian, a Harvard University graduate who is a journalist based in Moscow. I don’t know whether he is credible. However, if his report is at all correct, then my concern that Russia’s President Putin’s unwillingness to bring a war to an end after 15 months that he could have ended in 15 days has shown irresolution that encourages worsening US provocations of Russia, leading to nuclear war, is proving to be correct.
“There is a grave risk that in three weeks’ time US and NATO forces will attempt direct combat against Russia. The operational plan is to strike from Romanian airspace in the south and the Baltic states in the north, in camouflage of the NATO exercise called “Air Defender 23”, and under cover of US F-16 fighter aircraft purportedly operated by Ukrainian pilots but fuelled, directed, and guarded by more than two hundred US and NATO aircraft, including the most advanced US air war fighter, the F-35.”

“This [is] the largest deployment exercise since the foundation of NATO”, according to the cover story published by NATO headquarters. “ Commanded at US bases in Germany, ostensibly led by German officers, a Bundeswehr “fact sheet” claims “100 [US] Air National Guard aircraft from 35 different states will make the leap across the Atlantic to participate in Air Defender 2023. In addition to the world’s most modern jets, the F35, more than 20 different types of aircraft and Airmen from 24 nations will practice air warfare operations together over Germany, but also over eastern Europe on the NATO border. Among them Eurofighter, F18, F16, A10, [Saab] Gripen jets.”

OR they want us in fear to reinstate national emergencies. cv won’t work this time.
if the internet “goes down” how will word get out from russia that it did not happen?
and doesn’t starlink sort of rule that out?

IDK, Pat – I am not up on all that info and I know nothing about Starlink…we will still have our TVs for them to brainwash us with….

i thought elon was providing FREE internet via his starlink satellites for some country–maybe it was even ukraine at the start of things…don’t remember.
so they would have to knock out all his satellites?

Yes, Ukraine…and he has a TON of them up there but that’s pretty much all I know.

that’s what i was implying–convenient if the sat phones can communicate, but the internet won’t??

Yepper – IDK if his satellites include cell phones…..ok, been doing a bit of looking. This is from Sept 2022 – before, it was strictly internet access, I believe – T-Mobile has made a “deal” with StarLink for their phones. “You’ll soon be able to access Starlink directly with your cellphone from anywhere in the US, and eventually the world”

OK – Karen Gibson retired in 2020 and was assigned to the office of the DNI (Flynn) Combined Joint Task Force, US Army Cyber command – oh, Flynn DEFINITELY knew her!!! No doubt in my mind! She is not named in his book, however.

so what’s your take on that (not in his book)?
she’s a good guy or no?

I would lean towards no considering what she is doing right now but other than that…no idea.

The Orioles are clearly nesting now – they don’t eat much during the 2-4 weeks or so that they are nesting. The young fledge out within another 2 weeks or so, at which point the parents will start bringing them to the feeder. I’m seeing less than half of the birds these days than were here earlier.

we seem to have 2 pair…a male and female are feeding at the feeder together now…but they are different pairs. you can tell one pair is clearly more dominant and a little bigger.

A lot of that is due to age – the older Orioles will dominate last years’ yearling males – same with the females.

Tim Scott…
And Trump judicial nominee Thomas Farr.
Tim Scott blindsided his Senate Republican colleagues at the last minute, both times.
He is easily manipulated by Democrats, particularly his buddy Cory Booker. https://t.co/VDYJkL7g2M

Tim “Let The FBI Do Its Job” Scott. Has he been asked how he feels about how the FBI really did its job in light of the Durham report? He is a GOPe version of Spartacus Booker, who claims to have street creds from Newark, while really growing up and living in affluent Montclair. He famously asked Mike Pompeop how he felt about “Gay Sex” and signed onto a lawsuit against the NYPD which was surveilling Mosques in Newark, while not saying a word against the illegal survelliance on the Trump campaign, interim, and presidency. Talk about communist double standards……………

Yup – he’s bad news, IMO. I mean, not ALL bad, but not to be trusted. Considering his “close” friendship with Corey Booker (who is gay) and having never been married, no kids or “partner” – well, that blatantly calls for speculation!

Page 2: The Carroll case is part of the Democrats playbook to tarnish my name and person, much like the now fully debunked Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, the 51 Intelligence Agents, FBI/Twitter Files, and so much more. It is being funded and tried by Democrat operatives, although this was denied by them, and when they got caught in the lie, the Clinton appointed judge would not let us use it in trial. Time will prove him to be highly partisan & very unfair. Where’s the dress she said she had?

fraud and more fraud
entire article
BOSTON—A father and son from Massachusetts have both been sent to prison for running an elaborate lottery fraud scheme designed to enrich themselves and help prize winners avoid paying taxes on their windfall, prosecutors said.
Ali Jaafar, 63, and Yousef Jaafar, 29, both of Watertown, cashed in 14,000 winning lottery tickets over a roughly 10-year period, laundered more than $20 million in proceeds, and then lied on their tax returns to cheat the IRS out of about $6 million, the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston announced Monday.
The Jaafars purchased winning lottery tickets at a discount from people who wanted to avoid identification by the state lottery commission, which withholds taxes and outstanding child support payments from payouts.
After purchasing the tickets, using the stores that sold them as go-betweens, the Jaafars claimed the full prize amount. Although they reported the winnings on their tax returns, they also claimed equivalent fake gambling losses as an offset to avoid federal income taxes, prosecutors said.
Ali Jaafar was sentenced to five years in prison. Yousef Jaafar received a sentence of more than four years. They were also ordered to pay $6 million in restitution and forfeit the profits from their scheme.
They were convicted in December of conspiracy to defraud the IRS, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and filing a false tax return.
Mohamed Jaafar, another of Ali Jaafar’s sons, pleaded guilty to his role in the scheme in November and awaits sentencing.
The defendants paid the owners of dozens of stores that sell lottery tickets to facilitate the transactions, and the state lottery commission is in the process of revoking or suspending the licenses of more than 40 lottery agents, authorities said.

WHTM) – The Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General says they’ve filed public assistance fraud charges against 55 people during the month of April 2023.
The office says restitution owed to the state in these cases totals $291,826 with additional cost savings possible with those accused temporarily disqualified from receiving public benefits.
The number of residents charged in April is down from the 61 people charged in March. The number is up from 33 charged in February and 52 charged in January.
“Ensuring the appropriate distribution of public assistance in Pennsylvania is a crucial responsibility we owe to the people of our Commonwealth, and it is vital to uphold the credibility of these initiatives,” said State Inspector General Lucas M. Miller. “OSIG’s agents have worked tirelessly to safeguard the public’s trust, and I commend them for their work.”
