Monkey Tail Cactus

This month’s weird plant offering is rather unique to say the least…the monkey tail cactus.

Stem

The stems look greenish when young and greenish-yellow when they get older and covered on the entire surface by white, long & soft hair like spines cascading downward which resembles the appearance of Monkey’s tail. They are branched to three to five stems at the bottom. The stems start drooping and become pendant after reaching a certain height. Each stem can increase in size by nearly a foot every year and reach to 3- or 4-feet length. These long protruding stems on the hanging basket makes the garden look really attractive. Their soft harmless appearance lures people to touch them but it is to be noted that the flesh of this cactus is non-edible.

Flowers

The flowers of Monkey Tail Cactus produce bright red flowers that make the plant look particularly fascinating and eye-catching. After a few days, the flowers turn into fruits and disappear shortly. They are popular for blooming throughout the year with summer and winter being the main season. The contrasting features of these flowers bring peace to our soul. During winter and autumn, they undergo dormancy for some rest. This dormant period prepares the plant to bloom and grows beautiful red buds. The growth rate increases considerably during summer and spring.

Care of Monkey Tail Cactus

This cactus can thrive well in little care and doesn’t need special techniques to grow which make it popular among the people interested in house plants with busy schedules. Some caring tips for monkey tail cactus are discussed below:

Light

They do well in areas that receive plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. Indirect light is ideal, but this desert-native cactus can tolerate direct sunlight too. They must be kept in the area with bright indirect sunlight if grown indoors. This succulent thrives best outdoors in bright indirect sun and is used widely outdoors as a hanging basket. Their blooming frequency depends on the amount of sunlight they receive. They may not bloom as often as they do outdoors if kept indoors.

Temperature

They are popular due to their capacity to withstand a wide range of temperatures. They can even withstand the temperature below freezing point as low as 20 °F during dormancy to above 60 °F.

Soil

A well-draining organic soil mix or the sandy and loamy soils with the characteristics features like proper aeration, lightweight and quick drainage are considered ideal for this cactus. The stem suffers from water rot and many fungal infections in case of poor drainage, water stagnant and water lodging conditions. Salty soil can damage this plant. So, if Cocopeat is being used in potting mixture, they must be pre-washed in order to leach out its salt content. Perlite can be added on the soil mix to increase drainage.

Water

Frequent watering is required only during the fast and vigorous growing phase when water drains quickly exclusively during summer and spring. The intensity of watering depends on the dryness of the ground and air temperature. The frequency is directly proportional to the warmth present in air. The watering process is completely paused during their dormancy period. Watering it during dormancy, mostly during the winter period may result in frosting and can lead the plant to death. Not a single drop of water is given to the plant cuttings after propagation and light misting can be done only after 15 days of planting.

Fertilizers

Low nitrogen fertilizer is incorporated into the potting mixture during its active growing phase. It can be best applied by diluting the fertilizer solution with the water and spreading it as liquid fertilizer which can complete the whole year requirement at once. Since it doesn’t require any special care, application of nitrogen is enough to fulfill its nutrient requirement.

    1. Morning, Pat! Congrats on getting your garden in. My Mom has loved cactus since she lived in AZ – I’ll have to ask her if she’s ever heard of this one. She loves Madagascar Palms and always has one of those going. Too dark yet for the birds to show up but the jelly feeder was empty again, as was the hanging feeder above – the blackbirds/blue jays/bigger birds can get to that one so they clean it out fast, which is why I use the cheap Bomgaars seed that is full of chaff and corn powder in that one. The smaller one, with the baffle set really low so only the small birds can get to it and NO squirrels, gets the Pennington seed.

Supposed to clear up/heat up to almost 80 today – good day to make a quick run to Norfolk. I am determined to get a Fuchsia plant for one of my front planters. It would add some dramatic contrast among all the whites, yellows, and purples.

    Every. Damn. One. Of. ‘Em.

We’ve been calling every single person, group, and/or agency on this list as being actively involved in an orchestrated effort that unlawfully weaponized our Federal Govt against #Trump for purely partisan political reasons.

This then hobbled his entire presidency – and it was all based on LIES.

Unsurprisingly, we’ve been all over this for years but it’s consistently dismissed as a #conspiracytheory by those who were running cover for those who were running the ACTUAL CONSPIRACY.

Turns out we’ve been right the whole damn time.

Weird how it appears that the legacy (fake news) media conspired to assail those that dared challenge their faux Trump/Russia collusion narrative are now (yet again) thoroughly exposed as being full of shit.

    Their time is done.
    We are the news now.

          1. Here’s what’s going to happen: bear in mind, John Durham was appointed by Matt Whitaker, altho it was really set in motion by Jeff Sessions – Matt was appointed in November 2017 after Trump asked Sessions to step down (wrong move, IMO, and Sessions was NOT wrong in recusing himself). They will use that fact to debunk this report – watch and see!

The thing is, Hillary didn’t set up the Trump Tower meeting, or get a visa for the Russian lady that wasn’t supposed to have one.

That maltese professor wasn’t working for Hillary, and when Stroxz was texting to his not lover but co-conspirator about an “Insurance policy” that had NOTHING to do with Hillary.

No sympathy for the Hill, but she is taking the rap for not just her operation, which was an “Oct. surprise” intended to offset her own server scandal with a bigger one that would turn out to be nothing, after she won by dominion, they are trying to put the OTHER operation, done by the CIA/FBI that had the green light from McConnell/Ryan so mixed in with Hillarys operation that the two are conflated.

“Big Tech Resumed Hiring Foreign Workers Just Weeks After Layoffs — New disclosures released yesterday show Google, Amazon, Facebook, and other firms requesting foreign worker H-1B visas this year.”

    LEE FANG
    MAY 16, 2023

EXCERPT (not behind paywall): “Sundar Pichai, the chief executive of Google, wrote a solemn letter in January, announcing his company’s decision to lay off 12,000 employees. ”I have some difficult news to share,” wrote Pichai. The layoff, he continued, “weighs heavily on me,” and was forced by “economic reality.”

Just one month later, Pichai’s firm filed applications for low-paid foreign workers to come to America and take highly specialized tech jobs. Google filed dozens of applications for foreign workers to serve as software engineers, analytical consultants, user experience researchers, and other roles. Waymo, the self-driving car company owned by Google, also filed and received visa applications for engineering jobs. Many of the Google visas are for new employees, with some starting as soon as August 17th.

Newly disclosed data released yesterday by the Department of Labor shows thousands of recent H1-B foreign worker visas requested by firms that just underwent massive layoffs this year, including Facebook/Meta Platforms, Amazon, Zoom, Salesforce, Microsoft, and Palantir.”

  14. “The Life and Times of WHO’s Director General as Ethiopian Terrorist and human rights abuser”
BY RHODA WILSON ON MAY 15, 2023

SUMMARY: “Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus should never have been elected Director-General of the WHO. He should have been charged with crimes against the Ethiopian people. His period as a minister in the Ethiopian government between 2005 and 2016 should have disqualified him from any international office. Few governments could be as bad as the one Tedros served in for 11 years but, instead of charging him for his crimes, the global community promoted him to Director-General of the World Health Organisation.”

(The following was originally published by Spectator Australia on 12 June 2020. We have omitted some statements made in the Spectator’s article in respect of covid as we wanted to focus Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’ criminal past and these statements were unrelated to his past. You can read the original article HERE.)

EXCERPT: “Tedros should never have been nominated for the position of Director-General of the World Health Organisation (“WHO”). Having been nominated, however, no one should have voted for him. Having been elected he should have had the decency and humanity to declare that he was unfit for such an office. Alas, however, he still serves.

It is his period as a minister in the Ethiopian government between 2005 and 2016 that should disqualify him from any international office.

Back in the 1980s, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (“EPRDF”) was a union of a number of political parties including the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (“TPLF”). The TPLF itself was founded in 1975 and as part of EPRDF with the help of Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (“EPLF”), they overthrew the Marxist government run by dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam and installed another Marxist government led by Meles Zenawi. Mengistu fled Addis Ababa in May 1991 and was granted asylum by Robert Mugabe. Of course, he was. In 2006, Mengistu was found guilty of genocide by the High Court in Ethiopia. The TPLF itself has been listed as a terrorist organisation in the Global Terrorism Database since 1976 when it was first found to be engaging in kidnapping and hostage-taking.

Born in 1965, Tedros obtained a degree in Biology from an Ethiopian University in 1986. Tedros then appears to have worked as a health official when Mengistu was in power but left Ethiopia to study in England where he obtained a Masters of Science in Immunology in 1992, and then a PhD in Community Health at the University of Nottingham in 2000. It is unclear when he joined the TPLF but it is inconceivable he wasn’t a member by the time he became Health Minister in 2005. It was later reported that Tedros had served as one of the top 9 politburo members of the TPLF for many years.

Tedros was always an inappropriate candidate for the top job at the WHO given the appalling human rights record of the Ethiopian government during his period as a senior minister. A review of the Annual Reports of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) and Amnesty International for those 11 years makes disturbing reading.
    —————
Combining the reports of Human Rights Watch and Amnesty for the years 2005-2016, one finds shocking domestic crimes either engineered by the Government of which Tedros was a senior minister or ignored by them.

In searches of many articles, reports, reviews and other materials covering Ethiopia between 2005 and 2016 there is not a single reference to Tedros objecting to the behaviour of the Government controlled army or police. There is not a single reference to him condemning any human rights abuse or the crackdown on dissidents or Opposition members. There is no reference to him objecting to the imprisonment of journalists or the shutting down of the voices of human rights advocates. In fact, there was no reference whatsoever to Tedros doing anything other than acting as a willing conspirator in the crimes against humanity committed by the Ethiopian government of which he was a senior minister for 11 years.”

  15. “California must pay churches $1.4 million for trying to make them fund abortions, judges rule — ‘This is a significant victory for the churches we represent, the conscience rights of their members, and other religious organizations.’
Calvin Freiburger, Mon, May 15, 2023 – 5:36 pm EDT

EXCERPT: “(LifeSiteNews) — Two federal courts have ruled against the California government over its efforts to force churches to subsidize elective abortions, with state officials agreeing to pay the religious institutions $1.4 million in legal fees.

Since 2014, several churches have been resisting California administrative actions forcing all employers to cover elective abortions as “basic health care” in health insurance plans, regardless of religious or moral objections. The Trump administration threatened to withhold federal funding to California for infringing on religious freedom, but California under then-state Attorney General Xavier Becerra (now U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services) persisted, and the legal battle continued for years.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) has been representing four churches (Skyline Wesleyan Church in the San Diego area, Foothill Church in Glendora, Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino, and Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch) in two separate lawsuits on the subject. They contend that the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) imposed the new mandate without passing new laws or regulations or so much as public input.

One suit received a successful verdict against the state last August, and on Friday, ADF announced that it has now secured judgements in both of the lawsuits affirming that all four churches have a First Amendment right to abstain from supporting abortion, which California violated.”

Glen Beck: NIH Made Deal With Moderna To Share Profits For Vaccine Before Pandemic; Tucker: “Why Is This Not Front Page Everywhere?”

THIS IS FROM 12/10/2021 a YEAR AND A 1/2 ago!

Glenn Beck, a conservative political commentator, conspiracy theorist, and radio host appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Wednesday night, where he discussed National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) claim of partial ownership of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine last year, and alleged that the reason for this was due to the federal organization having worked with the pharmaceutical giant to develop the vaccine before the pandemic even started.

NIH Director Francis Collins had stated during an interview in May 2020 that “We do have some particular stake in the intellectual property” in terms of the basic scientific technology that they said was licensed out and incorporated into Moderna’s vaccine.

However, Beck alleged during his appearance on Tucker Carlson that the U.S. government began their partnership with Moderna in 2015 specifically to research and develop mRNA coronavirus vaccines, well before COVID-19 existed.

    FTA
The release of up to 2,500 immigrants at the southern border into the United States on Friday by Biden administration officials may have violated a restraining order set by a federal court in Florida, a judge said Monday.

U.S. District Court Judge T. Kent Wetherell, who issued an order late Thursday blocking the administration from releasing some immigrants into the U.S. without immediate notices to appear before an immigration court, wrote a two-page order on Monday asking why Department of Homeland Security officials should not be held in contempt over the release of immigrants on Friday.

“The Court takes allegations of noncompliance with its orders very seriously, irrespective of the source of the allegations,” Wetherell wrote.

The judge cited reports from the Washington Times indicating that the “Border Patrol paroled 2,500 migrants after judge’s ruling halting program,” noting, “It is possible that the article is inaccurate.”

“Defendants shall show cause why they should not be held in contempt for violating the temporary restraining order,” Wetherell added, giving the Justice Department until 3 p.m. Eastern time on Monday to “show cause.”
