    When we visited my father’s family in Louisiana – we brought back a whole string of garlic.

    Garlic is great cooked – especially on hamburgers and steaks. However, raw garlic is a whole different matter. When a friend had us over to their home for a Puerto Rican meal – and she made Tostones (fried plantain) with a red raw garlic sauce – we learned that raw garlic was very hard to tolerate. We felt like we had dragon 🔥 breath for a day or so!

      hubby discovered garlic filled olives. Every Tuesday evening we have salads for dinner and he’s taken to adding those olives on top of his salad. we kiss BEFORE the meal, and then not again for several days! lol
      I am not a garlic fan at all. some Tuesday nights I have to sleep facing away from him because the smell is awful (and he even gargles twice!)

    I just wanna make sure I understand this correctly, the FBI is refusing to hand over a document that was subpoenaed by the judiciary committee which is evidence that a sitting US president took bribes from foreign leaders in exchange for policy decisions, and the reason they are refusing to turn over this document is because turning it over would threaten national security?

    So the act of taking bribes for policy decisions doesn’t threaten national security, but exposing it is what threatens national security?

    Unanimous Supreme Court gives transgender woman from Guatemala new chance to fight deportation

    The Supreme Court ruled Thursday in favor of a transgender Guatemalan woman who is fighting deportation on the grounds that she would face persecution if returned to her native country.

    The court’s unanimous decision in favor of Estrella Santos-Zacaria gives her another chance to argue that immigration officials were wrong to reject her bid to remain in the United States.

    Lawyers for Santos-Zacaria, now in her mid-30s, said she first fled to the United States after being raped as a young teenager and threatened with death because of her gender identity in a country that has targeted the LGBTQ community.

    But a U.S. immigration judge found that she did not make a strong enough case that she would face persecution if sent back to Guatemala.

    The issue at the Supreme Court was more technical, whether federal immigration law was flexible enough to allow her another day in court. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled against her on that point, but other appellate courts had ruled in favor of immigrants on the same issue.

    The Supreme Court ruled in an opinion by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson that the 5th Circuit was wrong.

    EXCERPT: ” MATAMOROS, Mexico – In recent days, large crowds of immigrants have formed on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande fully prepared to swim over well-worn crossing spots to Brownsville – but seemingly held back by unarmed Mexican immigration officials.

    Over the course of several recent days in this northeastern Mexican city when perhaps 3,000 immigrants a day swam over to Brownsville with no opposition on either side, a curious pattern became evident. At some sort of signal from the Mexican immigration officers, a group of about 100-150 from the crowd would suddenly stand in unison and rush down the riverbank, past the immigration officers, and swim over to America.

    It turns out that this pattern was far from happenstance. The Center for Immigration Studies asked several of the Mexican immigration officers what was going on and learned that President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has been coordinating these mass swims with Mexico’s immigration service, INM, at high levels on an encrypted Whatsapp channel.

    The officers explained that their senior officers were in touch with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials about how many immigrants were gathered and were prepared to cross the river at any given time.

    “We’re letting them know that there’s a group of people ready to cross,” one officer explained.

    The Americans on the other side would ask the Mexicans to hold back the migrants – not because such crossings are illegal and should be blocked and obstructed, but only until the Americans had finished processing the last batch into the country through Brownsville. Once the Americans felt they could take in more, they message the Mexicans that “they are ready to receive them.” Then, senior officials would radio the on-ground immigration officers, all of whom are equipped with radios.”

    The conversation begins with the woman ATF agent saying, “Were you expecting us?” The man responded, “Well, it doesn’t surprise me with a guy wearing a plate carrier showing up…” The woman ATF agent (who does most of the talking) said, “The reason why we’re here … that just recently, the ATF, classified the FRT as machine guns.” She said, “We are aware that you might have purchased some of these FRTs.” She admitted, “Like the whole agency is basically ‘reaching out’ to these purchasers, and we have to pick them up.”

    After all that, Moonlight’s owner responded, “Well, I won’t be answering any questions today … and I don’t have any comments on this subject … and I won’t be giving you anything.”

    In a split second, the male ATF agent asked Moonlight’s owner, “Are you refusing to give us the trigger?” Moonlight’s owner said, “I’m not refusing to give anything. I just won’t be answering any questions.” Here’s the 4-minute conversation.

    How the ATF obtained customers’ information about who bought the triggers is still unknown. Some believe the ATF seized Rare Breed’s customer base through payment processors and or shipping companies. But what’s evident from the video is that the agents are aware of who bought these triggers and know exactly where those people live.”

  35. Good grief! I went out to check the feeders and the jelly one was almost empty! I kept seeing more and more Orioles so I figured it probably needed a refill but not THAT much! There were actually 5 Orioles in various places on the frame but you can’t see 1 female and another male to the right.

      1. It is the frame from one of those fold-up portable tent covers. I originally had the top on it but the wind was so bad, it bent one corner of the frame within weeks, even tho I lowered it as far as it would go. It is yet another item stored in my garage!

At the time, I was thinking more about getting the honeysuckle planted to, hopefully, cover the whole thing and provide some shade for the garden beds, especially since I couldn’t keep the top on. But it has turned out to be just that – a trellis and a place for all the feeders! I still have 3 under the eaves, too. LOL – I guess it’s going to take a LOT longer for the honeysuckle part of the plan to come to fruition. Oh, btw, my peach tree is leafing out nicely again! I didn’t get it pruned like I should have so they will be really small again, I expect, but that’s ok – peaches are peaches!

              last year, the gypsy moths devastated our 2 apple trees and the oak trees.
              the trees all leaved this year but only one apple tree has any blossoms on it and only on one side.
              maybe next year they will come back strong (fingers crossed)

              1. That’s one thing I DO regret not researching before ordering/planting. I never realized how danged much work they take!!! I’ve ordered a yellow Lilac bush for the far NW corner of the yard (where I originally had my barrels) but, from now on, that’s the closest I’m going to come to planting trees!

              4. when i worked at the borough office, a woman came in looking to post an ad on the community bulletin board. she had tons of lilacs she wanted to give away to whomever would dig them up. we took 6 “bushes” and they bloomed and did well for the first year. then the deer found them the next spring and ate them to twigs which never recovered.

  36. our old neighbor (who has passed years ago) told us once that his hummers would “greet” him upon their return every year by flying at his windows to say hello. we just had 2 males do that. It might be they can see their reflections in the glass and want to establish territory, but i get a kick out believing them to be saying hello…lol

    1. Who knows? It certainly could be! There have been a lot of stories like that and I do believe them. If you spend enough time consistently feeding them year after year, they learn to recognize you.

  39. Oh, you should see all the Orioles!!! There were at least 6 males out there and one female. What is so crazy is that they could all fit around the feeder to eat at one time, yet only one or a pair will eat at the same time. They will feed at the nectar feeder off to the side but never both on the jelly. Fight, fight, fight all day long!

    Well, we made it to 71 with a couple hours of sun but it’s clouding up again. Word is these storms tonight have a chance of being severe so I will definitely be bringing feeders into the patio! Hanging baskets go in the shed.
