Wait in the Truck

Every once in a while, a song comes along that just moves you. Maybe it appeals to your patriotic side—like Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”.

Or maybe a song just makes you want to get up and dance—like Josh Turner’s “Why Don’t We Just Dance?”

Or maybe the song has a deeper more profound effect.  “Wait in the Truck” by Hardy and Lainey Wilson has that effect on me.  The premise of the story is a man driving in an unfamiliar town who comes upon a “broken” woman in the road. He can tell what she’s been through so he merely asks, “where is he?” The woman responds and he delivers what he believes to be justice.  Then he doesn’t run, doesn’t try to hide from what he’s done, he just calls the police and waits for them to come.

Lainey tells the woman’s side in the song:

I don’t know if he’s an angel
‘Cause angels don’t do what he did
He was hellbent to find the man behind
All the whiskey scars I hid
I never thought my day of justice
Would come from a judge under a seat
But I knew right then I’d never get hit again
When he said to me

Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck

The story continues that he’s been in prison for 5 years and she still comes to see him from time to time.  He accepts his fate—says it was worth it to see a brighter side of the girl from that night.  But what moves me so much is his pleadings with God to have MERCY on him.  He doesn’t ask for forgiveness (in my opinion) because he thinks what he did was unforgivable.  Instead, he asks for mercy.  He took a stand, giving up his life essentially to save another and then takes responsibility for that action.

I do not advocate for vigilante justice.  But being a victim of spousal abuse, I can relate.  It was settled long ago, by his own hand. Thankfully I do not need to live in fear that he would ever find me again…others are not so fortunate.

    1. Wow! What an open! Vigilante justice has it’s place, IMO. I’ve got your sunshine, with temp at 35. Saw a gray, tiger-striped cat out by the garden beds this morning. I still have some of the outdoor food I got for Little Man so I stepped out and poured some on the walkway. Only took him/her a couple of minutes to get to it. Clearly, not a cat used to people. Pretty, tho.

It was John Adams who said “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
So there it is in a nutshell…by demoralizing & taking Judeo/Christian values out of the town square our enemies, the cabal have nearly succeeded in destroying us.

I couldn’t care less if Ron DeSanctus runs, but the problem is the Bill he is about to sign, which allows him to run without resigning from being Governor, totally weakens Election Integrity in Florida. Instead of getting tough, and doing what the people want (same day voting, voter ID, proof of Citizenship, paper ballots, hand count, etc.) this Bill guts everything….

….It will allow dirty Voter rolls to get dirtier, weakens transparency, and is a total mess. It’s simple, all we want is a Free and Fair Election, and an honest count.

I fully support Dan Patrick’s, and the Senate’s, $100K senior homestead exemption & $70K for those under 65.

“California Dade’s” plan is a disaster for Texas. House members – vote for the homestead exemption – $27 billion bigger tax cut than House plan!

DeSanctimonious had nothing to do with Israel, or the moving of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. Never so much as mentioned it to me—It was the last thing on his mind. DeSanctus wasn’t even Governor yet (It was December 6, 2017), and I barely knew him—He has turned out to be a total flameout! This is the kind of disinformation I thought only the Democrats would put out. No wonder DeSanctus is dropping like a rock in the Polls. Terrible!

  7. uphill climb admittedly, but there will be a recall effort in AZ to get rid of hobbs…
    FTA
There’s a lot of chatter on social media about recalling Katie Hobbs from the Arizona Governor’s Office since many believe she won due to election fraud. Some groups are raising money to fund an organized recall effort. One of the recall efforts is located on the website ArrestHobbs. Just the News featured a recall effort run by the Arizona chapter of Americans Against Mail in Voting. A third recall effort is active on Twitter.

We have done the math. We only need to organize 700 signing events to get the signatures we need to recall Hobbs. https://t.co/iL7cYGJ8sP

    — ARIZONA CITIZENS (@RECALL_HOBBS) April 25, 2023

However, the recount cannot begin until June 23, and will require collecting close to 800,000 signatures within four hot months mostly over the summer in order to succeed. Jennifer Wright, an expert on Arizona election law and practicing elections attorney, shared the legal hurdles a successful recall requires. She told The Arizona Sun Times, “Due to the immense effort and cost required by state law, which makes successful statewide recalls like this virtually impossible, diverting millions of dollars that could be expended on targeted pre-election litigation seems counterproductive.”

According to Wright, Arizona law requires a recall group to file an application with the Arizona Secretary of State before circulating petitions. It cannot be filed until Hobbs has been in office for six months. Once filed, Wright said Arizona law sets a clock of 120 days to gather the necessary signatures.

Arizona’s constitution requires collecting enough valid signatures to equal 25 percent of all votes cast in corresponding elections. Based on the 2022 statewide canvass, there were 2,559,485 votes cast in the governor’s race statewide; 25 percent is 639,872 valid signatures.

Federal Bureaucrats (Outside The Pentagon And US Post Office) Are Paid Some $576 Million Per Day
    APR 30, 2023

    https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/federal-bureaucrats-outside-pentagon-and-us-post-office-are-paid-some-576-million-day

Our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com recently determined from official Federal Freedom of Information Act filings that we pay Beltway bureaucrats in the federal executive agencies outside of the Defense Department and the U.S. Post Office some $576 million per day.

That’s more than $210 billion per year for the 1.44 million employees of 125 rank-and-file general administrative, civil enforcement and federal law enforcement agencies.

Economic uncertainty might surround many taxpayers, but for federal workers, we are funding lavish and perk-filled lifestyles.

In 109 of the 125 federal agencies in Washington, the average employee salary is more than $100,000.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average real median wage for the average employee was $54,339 in 2021.

The average salary at the Census Bureau is $67,656. That’s just a small example of the ‘private-sector’ versus ‘public-sector’ pay disparity.

The State Department has had a “do not travel” warning about Sudan since 2021 – THEN WHY WERE THEY THERE?!?!? Take responsibility for your choices, asswipes!!!!

“Those who spoke to CNN also pushed back on the argument made by US officials that they had warned Americans not to be in Sudan. The travel advisory level has been Level 4: Do Not Travel since June 2021, and the State Department has consistently advised Americans to “have evacuation plans that do not rely on US government assistance.” However, there were no recent security alerts explicitly advising Americans to leave the country.”

  13. “City reverses policy, will allow free speech in public park — Flip-flop comes as a result of lawsuit over restrictions”
    By Bob Unruh
    Published April 29, 2023 at 5:16pm

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ WND: “A Pennsylvania county is reversing its ban on free speech in a public park after being ordered to take that action by a federal judge. The case involved Kevin Gaughen and Dave Kocur who were kicked out of a Doughin County park and decided to sue for the government’s infringement of their 1st Amendment rights.

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Express worked on the case, and lawyer Jeff Zeman said, “Kevin and Dave knew their First Amendment rights and tried to stand up for them. But Dauphin County insisted on ignoring the commands of the Constitution. That’s why FIRE got involved.”

The fight developed in Fort Hunter Park, where the county’s parks director imposed a ban on political speech. The county official banned the two from collecting petition signatures in the park. But the court order to the county to reverse course “acknowledges that Dauphin County’s ban on political speech violated the First Amendment,” FIRE reported.

The county will also pay $91,000 to settle the case. “This victory isn’t just a victory for Dave and me, it’s a victory for everyone in Dauphin County,” said Gaughen. Gaughen, a board member of the Keystone Party of Pennsylvania, joined Kocur to go to the park to try to collect signatures from voters to be on the ballot.

“On June 11, 2022, the pair stood in an open area of Fort Hunter Park, part of the Dauphin County public park system, asking passersby to sign nomination petitions. They engaged with park visitors about their new political party for about an hour before park security guards approached them and ordered them to stop. The duo correctly pointed out they had the right to engage in political speech in a public park. Then Parks Director Anthea Stebbins arrived and ordered Gaughen and Kocur to stop what they were doing, telling them the county bars all political activity inside Fort Hunter Park,” FIRE explained.

The lawsuit, which was filed after the county initially rejected a request to correct its policies, resulted in the end of the “unconstitutional ban on speech in a public park” and vindication for the plaintiffs. “It shouldn’t have taken a lawsuit for Dauphin County to open their parks to political activity,” said FIRE attorney Conor Fitzpatrick. “Thanks to Kevin and Dave, Pennsylvanians can now talk politics in Fort Hunter Park without fear of government censorship.”

EXCERPT: “Last Friday, I attended The Heritage Foundation’s 50th Anniversary Gala, a sprawling and swanky affair featuring many fine presentations, a surprise Dierks Bentley mini-concert for the country music enthusiasts (yours truly among them), and an extravagant post-dinner fireworks show over the Potomac River. But the highlight of the evening, bar none, was former Fox News star Tucker Carlson’s electric keynote address and his (all-too-brief) colloquy on stage afterward with Heritage’s exceptional new president, Kevin Roberts.

Carlson’s speech was both wildly entertaining and poignant, at times slapstick funny and at other times humorously self-deprecating about his Episcopalian faith. But as Carlson began to reach his peroration, the key substantive takeaway he wished to impart unto his audience became clear. The relevant political and cultural battle lines in the year 2023 are not those befitting a civil and polite discussion where both sides are reasonable, both sides pursue their own version of the common good, and the best think tank white paper wins out in the end, Carlson cautioned. No, our current civilizational struggle is not reflective of a refined policy debate between amicable partisans; rather, it is one that implicates fundamentally distinct theological and anthropological visions of mankind—of man’s very biology and his relation with his fellow man, the state, and God Himself.

I immediately hearkened back to an interview Claremont Institute President Ryan Williams did with The Atlantic in October 2021, where Williams had this provocative (but accurate) line about America’s contemporary fault lines: “Even during the Civil War—I think we’re more divided now than we were then. As Lincoln said, we all prayed to the same God. We all believed in the same Constitution. We just differed over the question of slavery.” This is the precise sentiment that Carlson was getting at in his keynote speech at the Heritage gala last Friday.

We in the audience did not know it yet, at the time of Carlson’s speech—nor did Carlson, for that matter—but the broadcasting star had already given his last searing monologue for Fox News. In a stunning development, Fox News broke the news to their highest-rated host on Monday morning that he was fired. Hopefully, Carlson will retain something approximating his exceptional level of cultural and political influence in whatever role he next serves, because his witness to truth and civilizational sanity has never been more necessary.”

    ALEX BERENSON
    MAY 1, 2023

EXCERPT: “We all lost friends. Most of us lost relatives too. Not to Covid, of course. With some sad exceptions, almost no one lost anyone who wasn’t already over 75 or extremely overweight or ill to Covid. We lost friends to the government and media-fed lockdown panic, and then to the rancor over the mRNAs.

They told us that we were selfish and stupid. That we didn’t understand science. Or vaccines. That we were risking our lives and theirs out of pure spite, or maybe fear of needles. That the government was right to make us choose between our jobs and an experimental biotechnology. That we shouldn’t be allowed in movie theaters or stores or restaurants or planes.

Then they stopped talking to us at all. They disinvited us from family gatherings and parties. They said our children couldn’t play with theirs. They looked away when they saw us on the street.

You may have reached out to some of them. I did. Not to convince them, that was impossible, but simply to say, Hey, I’m still the same person, I don’t want to fight about this, we don’t have to talk about it. Except they wanted to talk about it. To vent. To let us know how immoral and wrong we were. “Everyone in medicine thinks you’re a fool,” a person I considered a friend said to me, after he found out that I had suggested children should not get the jabs.

“So. They were cowards. Cowardice is forgivable. And they were wrong. Being wrong is forgivable. But at this point their inability to admit the truth – if not to us, to themselves – that’s not forgivable.

Where I stand, as of May 1, 2023.

I no longer expect apologies from anyone. If my friends want to pretend the last three years didn’t happen, I am okay pretending. I will never really trust them again, unless they admit the truth or at least show some understanding of how wrong they were. But when you have long histories with people, and you know their flaws, and they know yours, you have to make allowances, just as they do for you.

What I am NOT willing to do any longer is suffer their disapproval. I have quietly extended olive branches over the last few months to a number of folks. But what I’ve realized recently is my willingness to turn the other cheek has a sell-by date, and it is here. Three years in, anyone who still presumes to judge those of us who were proven right has shown himself to be not just a coward but a fool.

As my dad used to say, forever is a mighty long time. And I don’t have enough friends to lose them lightly. But I am done with these people.”

Dem Senator Who Attacked Conservative Justices’ Wife’s Activism Pushed Legislation Related To His Own Wife’s Work

    Excerpt:

Mark Paoletta, a Schaerr-Jaffe law firm partner who has represented Ginni Thomas, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Congress does not have conflict of interest laws.

“It’s outrageous, but not surprising that Senator Whitehouse is attacking the originalist Justices on the Supreme Court on bogus ethics and conflicts of interest charges, when he is directly helping his wife’s organization and her organization is helping him,” he said. “Unlike the Executive branch and the judiciary, Congress is not subject to any conflict of interest law regarding their work. In fact, the Senate ethics manual explicitly permits Senators to work on matters that directly affect their financial interests and their spouses’ employers or clients.”
