Nutmeg

Nutmeg is the common name for a dark-leaved evergreen tree, Myristica fragrans, that is cultivated for two spices derived from its fruit, “nutmeg” and “mace.”

The nutmeg is the oval-shaped seed, and mace is the bright red webbing that surrounds the seed.

The tree is native to the Moluccas, or Spice Islands, of Indonesia.

Nutmeg is known to have been a prized and costly spice in European medieval cuisine as a flavoring, medicinal, and preservative agent.

Saint Theodore the Studite (ca. 758 C.E. – ca. 826), was famous for allowing his monks to sprinkle nutmeg on their pease pudding when required to eat it.

In Elizabethan times, it was believed that nutmeg could ward off the plague, so nutmeg was very popular.

Around1600 it became important as an expensive commercial spice in the Western world and was the subject of Dutch plots to keep prices high and of English and French counterplots to obtain fertile seeds for transplantation.

Until the mid-19th century, the Spice Islands, was the only location of the production of the spices nutmeg and mace in the world.

As a result of the Dutch interregnum during the Napoleonic Wars, the British took temporary control of the Spice Islands from the Dutch and transplanted nutmeg trees, complete with soil, to Sri Lanka, Penang, Bencoolen, and Singapore. From these locations they were transplanted to their other colonial holdings elsewhere, notably Zanzibar and Grenada.

Today, Indonesia and Grenada dominate production and exports of both products, with world market shares of 75% and 20%, respectively. Other producers include India, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, and Caribbean islands.

The nutmeg tree is a small evergreen tree, usually 16–43 ft tall, but occasionally reaching 66 ft. The tree may bear fruit for more than 60 years.

The alternately arranged leaves are dark green, 2.0–5.9 inches long by 0.8–2.8 inches wide with petioles about 0.4 inches long.

The species is dioecious, i.e. maleorstaminate flowers and “female” or carpellate flowers are borne on different plants, although occasional individuals produce both kinds of flower. The flowers are bell-shaped, pale yellow and somewhat waxy and fleshy. Staminate flowers are arranged in groups of one to ten, each 0.2–0.3 inches long; carpellate flowers are in smaller groups, one to three, and somewhat longer, up to 0.4 inches long.

Trees produce smooth yellow ovoid or pear-shaped fruits, 2.4–3.5 inches long with a diameter of 1.4–2.0 inches. The fruit has a fleshy husk. When ripe the husk splits into two halves along a ridge running the length of the fruit.

Inside is a purple-brown shiny seed, 0.8–1.2 inches long by about 0.8 inches across, with a red or crimson covering (an aril).

Nutmeg has a distinctive pungent fragrance and a warm slightly sweet taste; it is used to flavor many kinds of baked goods, confections, puddings, potatoes, meats, sausages, sauces, vegetables, and such beverages as eggnog.

Mace’s flavor is similar to nutmeg but more delicate; it is used to flavor baked goods, meat, fish, vegetables and in preserving and pickling. The more delicate flavor of mace makes this spice much more expensive than nutmeg and also because its yield is about ten times less that of nutmeg.

Nutmeg is known to impact health in many ways because of its nutritive content of vitamins, minerals, and organic compounds related to the essential oils. These beneficial components include dietary fiber, manganese, thiamine, vitamin B6, folate, magnesium, copper, and macelignan.

The health benefits of nutmeg include ability to relieve pain, reduce insomnia, detoxify the body, helps digestion, brightens skin, protect the teeth and gums, helps lower blood pressure, increases circulation, prevents leukemiand and protect cognitive functionality against degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Nutmeg butter is obtained from the nut by expression. It is semisolid, reddish-brown in color, and tastes and smells of nutmeg.

The essential oil obtained by steam distillation of ground nutmeg is used widely in the perfumery and pharmaceutical industries.

Nutmeg contains myristicin, a natural compound that has mind-altering effects if ingested in large doses. The buzz can last one to two days and can be hallucinogenic, much like LSD.

Exactly how much nutmeg you can tolerate before becoming ill depends partly on your body mass. In one case, an eight-year-old child ate just 0.5 ounce of nutmeg and died from the effects, according to A.K. Demetriades, M.D., of University College London Hospital. From 1 to 3 tbsp. of nutmeg powder, or 1 to 3 whole nutmeg seeds, causes illness in most people.

Nutmeg is highly neurotoxic to dogs and causes seizures, tremors, and nervous system disorders which can be fatal.

Connecticut’s nickname is the “Nutmeg State because its early inhabitants had the reputation of being so ingenious and shrewd that they were able to make and sell wooden nutmegs. Sam Slick (Judge Halliburton) seems to be the originator of this story. Some claim that wooden nutmegs were actually sold, but they do not give either the time or the place.

the deck is full of snow again so hopefully it’s all off the roof now, so gotta shovel this morning and we’re bringing in firewood so gotta stack that too.

    1. Good morning! Most of the snow we got the last couple of days has already melted, altho it’s only 21 this morning. I have never had any ill effects from the time change, even when I was still working. I never notice – change them when I go to bed the night before – and have never understood the complaints about it.

I love nutmeg but never knew where it came from, like most spices. Interesting the use of the word “mace” for the spray used by police and in the small spray cans you can buy. Wonder if there is any connection….?

A California medical examiner first alerted federal authorities in the spring of 2019, when 29-year-old Brennan Harrell died of a fentanyl overdose after he and a friend bought pills at a drug store in Cabo San Lucas.

Afterward, his parents said, they cooperated with the DEA during a months-long investigation they say ended with the agency promising to take action that did not materialize.

Neither the DEA nor the State Department provided direct answers to detailed questions. The DEA declined to comment. A State Department spokesperson referred back to an earlier statement in which the department said it “will not go into detail about any U.S. citizens impacted by counterfeit medication due to privacy considerations.”

Repeated requests for comment from the Baja California Sur state police and prosecutor’s office went unanswered. Los Cabos municipal police did not provide comment.

  3. THANK YOU for the enlightening information about NUTMEG. I had never seen the trees, flowers, fruit or nuts with the red coats on them. Glad to know about its toxicity in excess.

I like nutmeg – but solo – a little goes a long way – such as a sprinkle on top of whipped cream on top of egg nog.

Love nutmeg mixed with other spices in sweet potato, pumpkin, apple pies, casseroles, breads, puddings, muffins, cookies, etc.

    1. I cannot remember where I read this, it’s been too many years ago…It was suggested that some nutmeg shavings be added to steamed cauliflower, and also cream of mushroom soup. I’m a fan, so I tried both. Wow! Try it if you like nutmeg. It’s a terrific addition to these dishes.
Does not make them taste like nutmeg, but rather enhances their flavor.

  4. more bureaucratic bullshit! 149,00 federal workers owe more than $1.5 BILLION in taxes, but they aren’t being fired or held accountable!
    entire article

Federal workers with outstanding tax bills numbered 149,000, and their combined tax debt totaled $1.5 billion as of 2021, according to a new Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration audit, as legislative remedies for the problem proposed by Republican lawmakers over more than decade have gone nowhere.

Finding that “the number of delinquent Federal civilian employees has increased by 32% from Fiscal Years (FY) 2015 to 2021” and their “related balances due” have increased by almost 36%, the IG report concluded that the IRS has failed to adequately prioritize delinquent federal works for compliance.

The report said federal employees must be held to a higher standard when it comes to tax compliance.

“Like all taxpayers, Federal employees and retirees have a legal obligation to file tax returns and pay their taxes,” the report reads. “However, Federal employees are held to a higher standard for a number of reasons, including that they draw their compensation and funds from Federal taxes. As the agency primarily responsible for administering Federal tax law, the IRS must ensure that Federal employees comply with the tax law in order to maintain the public’s confidence.”

In 2019, it was reported that the Internal Revenue Service failed to fire the vast majority of its own employees who were not paying their taxes.

According to a Government Executive report, the IRS is required to fire employees who are “willfully out of tax compliance” under a 1998 law.

In 2021, Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) introduced the Federal Employees and Retirees with Delinquent Debt Initiative, which would have prohibited federal workers with an unpaid tax liability from employment with the federal government. The bill never came to a vote in the Democrat-led Senate.

“Those who cheat from Uncle Sam and have a significant delinquent debt to the IRS should not be able to accept a paycheck from the federal government until they pay their delinquent tax bill, and this legislation will fix this problem,” Braun said at the time.

According to FedSmith.com, “efforts in Congress to target tax delinquent federal employees date back to at least 2011,” but none of the proposed bills have become law.

In 2012, the Federal Employee Tax Accountability Act passed the GOP-led House, but it failed in the Democratic Senate. The bill would have given federal employees who owe back taxes 180 days to show that they’re paying off the debt. If they failed to do so, they would be barred from being “appointed or to continue serving as an employee” of the federal government.

The late Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), the Senate majority leader at the time, said he would review the bill but expressed opposition to putting broad restrictions on federal employees with outstanding tax bills.

“Just to have a carte blanche to fire everybody, someone could have had a death in the family, someone that’s really sick, so I think we have to be careful in throwing these blanket restrictions on people,” Reid said at the time.

The Senate version of the legislation never received a floor vote.

The IG pointed out that the IRS commissioner recently expressed support for a “change to I.R.C. § 6103 allowing the IRS to share information with Federal agencies pertaining to a Federal contractors’ tax compliance.” The report found that a “similar approach to information sharing with respect to Federal civilian employee tax compliance with the appropriate Federal agency may improve Federal employee tax compliance.”

The IG described “repeatedly not filing a tax return when a taxpayer is required to do so” as a “brazen form of noncompliance.”

“Federal civilian employees with tax delinquencies have a legal and ethical requirement to be current with their tax obligations,” the IG noted. “While the employees themselves know they have an outstanding delinquency, the agencies they work for do not know who these individuals are due to I.R.C. § 6103 statutory limitations. Additionally, the IRS is not using all enforcement tools available for willful or grossly negligent Federal civilian nonfilers and should give a higher priority to addressing this noncompliance by identifying these Federal employees and working the cases for indications of fraud and willful nonfiling.”

Here is a serious contradiction that demands a response:

If a woman has a baby at home, but decides she doesn’t want the child and just lets him/her die, she will most likely be charged with a felony; it will not be called a reproductive choice.

Yet, if a woman goes to a Planned Parenthood for an abortion, the baby is born alive, and the clinic staff withhold care until he/she dies, it will be called reproductive choice. Isn’t that unequal treatment under the law? Maybe Garland and Biden could explain the difference when they talk about equity and equality?

    1. EXCERPT: “A quick essay of the Silicon Valley Banking Crisis (and it is a crisis) and why does the collapse of one bank, one of the largest in the USA matter to you and me?

The graphic below is from the Silicon Valley bank’s website. I grabbed this just as the feces began hitting the fan on Friday. It is a quick synopsis of their 4th quarter outlook. One just has to add up assets and total loans – compared to client funds. Whoops – a little shortfall there! Without knowing the “whys and wherefores”, this pretty much sums up what went wrong.

But to break it down. In 2022, interest rates rose (mortgage rates currently have settled around 7% -higher for the average credit scored person). Of course, un-secured commercial loans actually have higher interest rates than that. So, people and companies stopped borrowing as much as they had been borrowing in year’s past, when interest rates were very low.

Anyway, Silicon Valley took in more money in client accounts than they could lend. So, they stuck that extra money in long-term government bonds, which back in early 2022 had extremely low earnings. Bonds whose interest earnings didn’t keep up with inflation. That money basically lost value. By my figures, maybe as much as 7-10% over the course of the year.

So they had a shortfall. Which generally, if they could keep that hidden from clients would be ok- if they could have course corrected (or so says various market analysts). This logic seems fishy to me, but that is what I have read.

Wind of their shortfall got out and they had a good old fashioned run. Rumor has it for instance, that Peter Thiel tried to transfer money on Thursday and couldn’t. He smelled a rat and immediately pulled all of the money he had stashed there out. He wasn’t the only one. Lots of large clients began withdrawing all of their money.

This run happened so fast, that government regulators literally had to shut down the bank mid-day on Friday because the bank had no money. They were in shortfall and a free fall.

Here is the thing. The big idea that Jill and I had yesterday. Could this scenario play out in other banks? One thing we know about big businesses is that they mimic best solutions from each other. Have other banks also used long-term bonds and no-interest accounts to store money that they couldn’t lend to clients as easily as before? What happens next week when investors start questioning their bank’s investing practices? Will they discover banks across America have a short-fall?”

  14. “International Declaration Against Legalisation of Human Genetic Modification”
Deutsche Version // Version Française // Versión en castellano // English version // Versione italiana

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “The undersigned organisations and individuals support the existing strong international consensus against genetic modification of human beings (HGM*). We wish to express our great concern about and opposition to those scientific academies and others presently seeking to legalise HGM. HGM is medically unnecessary. Pursuing it is an act of extreme scientific irresponsibility, likely to result in enormously harmful consequences for individuals and for global society as a whole.

Human cloning and HGM were banned in international human rights treaties and in many countries in the 1990s, primarily because of the terrible history of eugenics. We support this deeply-felt and principled international ethical consensus. New technical abilities to conduct HGM do not change that consensus. We believe:

    – Designing children’s genes runs counter to accepted basic visions of diversity and the inclusion and equality of all vulnerable individuals and minority groups. Rather than competitively genetically ‘enhancing’ children, we want to encourage a world that celebrates and accepts all individuals and groups of people and that does not rely on oppressive and biological determinist prejudices about what constitutes a ‘better’ human being. Allowing HGM would exacerbate existing social inequalities. It would be an act of scientific irresponsibility and, in a time of rising neo-fascism, of political irresponsibility as well.

    – Like human cloning, HGM is referred to in international declarations and treaties as contrary to human dignity, because it reduces human beings, to the status of designed and optimised consumer objects.

    – There are a range of robust alternative methods for avoiding genetic conditions, so the only advantage of HGM would be for ensuring 100% genetic parenthood of the child. It can never be ethical to submit a child to the severe health risks of genetic modification for this purpose.

    – We are also concerned about the exploitation of and health risks to those sourced for eggs for research to make HGM possible.

We call upon the UN to create an international convention to permanently ban HGM and human cloning. For the sake of our children and of our common humanity we must not cross this ethical line.

    * We use the term ‘human genetic modification’ (HGM) rather than ‘genome editing’. Scientists seeking to promote HGM introduced the later term to allay public concerns about creating designer children. We use the term ‘human genetic modification’ to refer to genetic modification of human eggs, sperm, or embryos to create a person who is genetically engineered in all cells of their body and will pass on the genetic changes to their offspring. Genetic engineering of cells for purposes of treating a particular disease as, for example, skin, liver, or lung cells, which we do not oppose, is usually referred to as somatic gene therapy.

The National Women’s Law Center, the People for the American Way, and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights called on senators in a letter to “further examine” Delaney’s record. Delaney filed a successful motion to strip a minor sexual assault victim of her anonymity when he represented the prestigious St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire in 2016.

With continued efforts in the courts to narrow and overturn fundamental and civil rights, we must ensure only nominees who understand the impact of the law on and the need to protect the rights of women, girls, people of color, LGBTQI+ people, pregnant and parenting individuals, and other communities marginalized in our society are confirmed to the federal bench,” the groups write in the the letter, first reported by Politico. “At a time when survivors are shamed for exercising their civil rights to be free from sex discrimination in education, it is essential that we call out the actions of those in power who seek to minimize the trauma, needs, and lived experiences of survivors.”

While the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) signaled the Senate would move ahead with a vote on Delaney as soon as next week, the letter emphasizes the difficult circumstances Democrats, who brand themselves as advocates for sexual assault victims, face. Delaney appeared to face some opposition from Democrats on the committee, such as Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), who submitted an extensive set of written questions to the nominee.

The victim, Chessy Prout, and her family, have been outspoken opponents of Delaney’s nomination.

“Delaney used the ‘totality of his career,’ his accumulated knowledge of victim trauma, and weaponized that knowledge and experience to intimidate a minor victim of sexual assault into silence,” Alex Prout, the father of Chessy Prout, said Saturday in a statement. “This does not qualify him to be a federal judge.”

New Hampshire senators Maggie Hassan (D.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D.) have led the charge for his confirmation, praising his record on multiple occasions. But with two Democratic absences, Feinstein with a case of shingles and Sen. John Fetterman (Penn.) who is hospitalized with depression, Delaney’s nomination is far from assured.

The White House, laser-focused on confirming more judges than former president Donald Trump, has remained supportive of Delaney. In a statement to Politico, a spokesman said Biden “has the utmost respect for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and expects senators to take Mr. Delaney’s full record into account when considering his nomination.”

  19. oh look…ANOTHER new office–which will require an administrator and staff drawing salaries and expenses. and then FREE college to ILLEGALS for a year at NY taxpayers’ expense
    FTA
New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) plans to send some asylum-seeking migrants to college for a year using taxpayer funds, according to a report.

On Tuesday, Adams unveiled his plans to establish the Office of Asylum Seekers Operations (OASO) in New York City. The office will “focus on resettlement and legal services, as well as a new 24/7 arrival center for asylum seekers,” per a press release.

The New York Post reported Friday that the OASA would oversee a pilot program, providing educational services and room and board, to up to 100 migrants for a year. They will attend SUNY Sullivan Community College and The Center for Discovery, a special education entity in Sullivan County.

“By spending New Yorkers’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars on college classes for migrants, he is incentivizing and rewarding illegal immigration simply to export the crisis of Democrats’ own making out of New York City,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) told the Post.

  20. 2 more infants surrendered in safe haven boxes in Indiana! wonderful that they were given a chance!
    entire article

Two infants were successfully surrendered recently in separate incidents at Indiana Safe Haven Baby Boxes.

The first infant was surrendered at the Cleveland Township baby box in Elkhart, while the second baby was saved at the Wayne Township fire station in Indianapolis. Exact surrender dates have not been given.

The Safe Haven Baby Box organization installs monitored, temperature-controlled boxes where parents can safely and anonymously surrender a child, per each state’s safe haven law. When a child is placed inside, an alarm is triggered, alerting help. The boxes are installed in places like fire stations, police stations, or hospitals so that emergency responders can tend to the infant immediately. The organization was founded by Monica Kelsey, who was herself abandoned as an infant, in an effort to curtail infant abandonment by offering parents a safe and anonymous alternative.

“We are very blessed that these mothers chose to lovingly and legally surrender their infant,” Kelsey said. “It is an act of sacrificial love for the best interest of the infant. These babies are so loved and are an answered prayer for adoptive families that will eagerly add them to their family.”

Members from both surrender communities spoke in praise of the boxes.

“Cleveland Township Fire Department is grateful that we were able to provide a safe venue and opportunity for a parent to safely surrender their infant. I am proud of the firefighters for their quick response and professionalism in dealing with this anonymous, lifesaving decision made by this parent,” said Cleveland Township’s fire chief Mark Travis.

“The crew immediately initiated transport to the hospital within minutes of receiving that alarm, and provided supportive care on the way to the hospital and transferred care upon arrival,” added Travis.

“We are happy to report that our Safe Haven Box received a surrendered child last week,” said Capt. Eric Banister with the Wayne Township fire department. “The system worked smoothly for the mother, the child, and the first responders that received the newborn. Seeing this valuable program work as designed, we encourage anyone in crisis to utilize this safe and legal service.”

These two surrenders mark the third and fourth Safe Haven Baby Box surrenders of the year. According to ABC 57, 21 of the 26 surrenders the organization has experienced since 2017 have taken place in Indiana.

  21. “FDA + CDC cannot explain the Florida VAERS data (so they change the subject) — Florida Surgeon General Joe Ladapo asked them a simple question. They ignored it, responded with a “safe and effective sales pitch,” and accused him of spreading misinformation.”
    Steve Kirsch

(Figure 1. Joe Ladapo. This is what an honest public health official looks like.)

EXCERPT: “Executive summary — Florida Surgeon General Joe Ladapo has been a reliable truth-teller throughout the pandemic. After noticing that the VAERS reports in his state were off the charts, he wrote a letter to the CDC and FDA asking them to explain his observations. Rather than directly answering Dr. Ladapo’s questions, the heads of both agencies sent him a “safe and effective” sales pitch. They also accused him of spreading COVID misinformation. Ladapo correctly pointed out a huge issue with the narrative. If the vaccines are really as “safe and effective” as claimed, why are the VAERS reports off-the-charts?

Something is seriously wrong. Both agency heads should have acknowledged the discrepancy and investigated. If they had done so, they would have found other “discrepancies” such as the over 700 safety signals (including death and stroke) that were triggered in VAERS that were never explained or reported to the public. They should both be fired. Both agencies are responsible for public safety, yet their heads cannot directly answer even the most basic safety questions about the vaccine. They must deflect instead.

Unfortunately, Congress is looking the other way on all issues related to vaccine safety. After all, it was Congress who pushed the vaccine on the public. So Congress is not likely to investigate the issues with the FDA/CDC anytime soon. My fellow Substack writers also mocked the FDA/CDC response.

    The source materials:
Florida press release on COVID vaccine safety
    Ladapo’s letter to the FDA/CDC
    The FDA response

Introduction — On February 15, 2023, Florida Surgeon General Joe Ladapo wrote a letter to the CDC and FDA asking them to explain why in Florida, there was an 18X increase in VAERS reports overall and a 45X increase in reports of life-threatening conditions after the COVID vaccines were rolled out. Since there was only a 5X increase in vaccine administration, why was there a disproportionately high response in the adverse event rates in VAERS?

Three weeks later, on March 10, the FDA/CDC wrote back a response that sounded like a “sales pitch” for the vaccine. They also criticized him for spreading vaccine misinformation (i.e., they tried to gaslight him). The FDA/CDC didn’t even attempt to directly address his concerns in their response. They avoided the numbers he cited like the plague. They changed the topic instead of addressing his very legitimate concerns.

This just shows you how corrupt the top officials of both organizations are. They can’t answer simple questions without changing the subject. Here’s the response that they should have sent:”

  22. Well, I’ve decided to walk away from WalkAwaySocial, at least for the time being. There is one mod who keeps removing stuff I’m posting in the Discussions Group – once because there was another video linked on the same page as the one I posted, another because it had already been posted. Well, uh, I don’t have all day to scroll pages and pages and pages and pages down the thread to see if something has ever been posted so…..

I would post them on my “page” but there is no way I’ve found to do that so…I posted something in the NE group days ago yet it still can’t be seen on that page…

  23. “Taking Back America — An introduction to my friend and colleague, economist Peter Navarro and his new substack”

    Robert W Malone MD, MS

EXCERPT: “I first really encountered economist Peter Navarro very early in the COVIDcrisis outbreak during 2020, when he contacted one of my clients seeking sources for ramping up domestic manufacturing of hydroxychloroquine. There are many who claim to have been very early advocates for pharmaceutical management of COVID-19, but no-one can dispute that Peter was at the absolute forefront of the push to provide early drug therapies. Peter was the tip of the spear within the White House until Janet Woodcock and Rick Bright successfully conspired to subvert the will of the sitting POTUS. What ever you think of Donald J. Trump, whatever mistakes he may have made, whatever his misplaced trust in Mike Pence, Deborah Birx and Anthony Fauci contributed to the resulting massive public health fiasco, there can be no doubt of the amazing progress which this economist made to advancing efforts to appropriately manage the COVIDcrisis – until he was blocked.

I am proud to call this committed patriot a friend and colleague.

I met Peter when he was guest-hosting Steve Bannon’s War Room Pandemic and we talked on the air about how the alleged “vaccine” being pedaled by Biden and Fauci might wind up killing millions. The interview went so well, we went on to write a series of very important articles in the Washington Times about the dangers of the vaccine and continue to collaborate on the important issues before us.

I am writing now to bring to your attention a new substack from Peter Navarro, who played a pivotal role in the Trump White House. It’s Peter Navarro’s Taking Back Trump’s America | Substack and a great hub for news about all things Fauci and MAGA. So, please consider enrolling in a paid subscription to help raise funds for Peter’s legal defense against the Biden regime.

A note: Peter tends to use stronger words than I do, and in large part this stems from his profound outrage concerning what is going on in America under the current administration. After all, how would you feel if you were arrested and placed into leg irons by the Feds when you arrived at National airport, and trotted out for the corporate media hacks to video and photograph? Peter and I have different styles, but we share that burning outrage which many patriots feel.

Now here’s the transcript from one of Peter’s substack posts on Fauci:”

  25. “Put More People in Prison — An interview with The Charlie Kirk Show about crime and punishment.”

    Pedro L. Gonzalez
ENTIRE ARTICLE: “I joined The Charlie Kirk Show to discuss my latest Chronicles column, “The Myth of Draconianism,” which focuses on misleading narratives about who is in prison in the U.S. and why they are there.

The lies and half-truths would be less of a problem were it not the case that Democrats and Republicans have harmonized on the chorus. Both sides more or less agree on the basic premise: the U.S. puts way too many people behind bars for trivial reasons and for far too long.

But I draw from the work of Barry Latzer, professor emeritus at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, and U.S. Sentencing Commission reports to argue that we don’t put and keep enough of the right people behind bars.

Consider that roughly 5 percent of the U.S. population accounts for 47 to 55 percent of all crime, and only around 20 percent of inmates serve full terms due to parole and “good time” release, while two-thirds of criminal defendants are free on probation or parole. Indeed, eight of every ten parolees reoffend after release, accounting for approximately two million arrests. In effect, the criminal justice system in America is a revolving door between the prisons and the streets.

There are different reasons for this. American leaders have become soft—pathologically so—toward crime, and the consequences of that have been policies that make everyday people whose property lines are not bounded by gates less safe. But there is also a well-organized, well-funded movement pushing these policies, where the interests of George Soros and the Koch brothers converge. I wrote about the latter recently on this Substack, highlighting the influence of liberal billionaire dollars at the American Conservative Union, which runs the Conservative Political Action Conference. Republicans, in fact, have been among the worst offenders on this issue.

In “Red State Blues,” political scientist Matt Grossman shows how liberal foundations targeted conservative states and worked through conservative institutions such as the American Legislative Exchange Council, the Koch brothers’ network, and the Federalist Society to successfully make their case for “reform.”

The idea was that if this effort could succeed in Texas, then it would inoculate the jailbreak movement from charges of being soft on crime. It worked, and those involved in the effort, like Brooke Rollins, took the blueprint all the way to the White House. “Despite Trump being elected partially on ‘law and order’ rhetoric, there has been no Republican return to tough-on-crime policies,” Grossman wrote in 2019.

Under Trump, the federal government embraced soft-on-crime policies while the “reform” movement trucked apace in red states like Oklahoma, Georgia, and Texas—all despite Republican voters pleading with their leaders to return to the old and hard ways. Many Republican politicians have effectively swindled their voters on the issue, thundering though-sounding rhetoric that wins them conservative votes while enacting liberal policies favored by their donors.

P.S. Contra has slowed down a bit because of a few deadlines I have to meet. But regular content will resume soon.”

ENTIRE ARTICLE @ ReclaimTheNet: “Bill Gates visited MOSIP (Modular Open Source Identity Platform) in Bangalore, India, according to a LinkedIn post MOSIP shared. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has supported MOSIP’s free-to-use digital ID platform.

“MOSIP is fortunate to have had the BMGF’s support over many years, and we were honored to have this opportunity to showcase MOSIP’s milestones, major achievements, and roadmaps to the team and their illustrious Founder,” MOSIP wrote in the post.

Among other things, Gates was updated on the progress of the ten countries that are adopting MOSIP. He also discussed with the team the potential for using digital ID programs to promote service delivery and financial inclusion.

“As we head into a future where the need for robust, inclusive digital infrastructure has become increasingly apparent, his enthusiastic responses and questions provided much encouragement and food for thought,” MOSIP added in the post. MOSIP has registered over 80 million people and is looking to enter the Caribbean and Latin American market. It is also offering new products, like the Inji digital wallet.”

  27. “Finally, an eyewitness account: a man who said he was an emergency management coordinator in Pennsylvania stated that he saw Antifa trying to disguise themselves and saying, “We got to shake this up so that these people look bad.” He said these people then broke a window at the Capitol. He started to walk away, wanting to leave the vandalism behind, but he heard them trying to break a second window as he walked away.

The eyewitness added that he also saw some of the supposed “mob violence” on the other side of the Capitol. He explained that when people started to climb the scaffolding, Trump supporters around them began to say, “These aren’t our people.” The eyewitness himself was very insistent: “They weren’t Trump supporters, I’m telling you…Trump supporters were walking away [from them].” He had a theory as to why. “These are people that are trying to get—promote the false narrative that Trump’s people are acting like Antifa and BLM.” If he’s telling the truth, that’s explosive evidence.”
