Play Ball!

The baseball plant (Euphorbia obesa) is a succulent perennial that is native to the Cape Province of South Africa. Since its discovery during the late 1800s, baseball plants have exploded in popularity as houseplants due to their unique appearance and low-maintenance needs. Though baseball plants are actually considered an endangered species in their native habitat due to unsustainable harvesting, they can easily be found in garden centers. Today, national and international legislation that prohibits harvesting baseball plants has been enacted in an effort to protect the remaining native populations of baseball plants.

These long-lived, slow-growing succulents are characterized by bulbous shape, V-shaped markings, and seam-like ridges that resemble stitching. Rather than branches or leaves, the plant consists of a single wide stem body from which the flowers sprout. Young baseball plants are round in shape but become more elongated and cylindrically shaped with maturity. Baseball plants are also called sea urchin plants since they loosely resemble that creature.

The plants are dioecious, with either male or female flowers that are yellow in color and rather insignificant in appearance. To produce seeds, the female flowers must be cross-pollinated by a male plant, and for this reason, the plant is rarely propagated by seed except in the nursery trade.

Baseball Plant Care

Baseball plants are relatively easy plants to care for as long as their light and water requirements are met. They thrive if grown in a standard coarse potting mix formulated for cactus and succulents and placed in a location that receives plenty of sunlight or at constant bright indirect light. They are slow-growing plants that can be allowed to fill their pots before repotting becomes necessary. Few houseplants require less care than baseball plants.

Baseball plants do not produce leaves or foliage but they do produce small, fragrant flowers in the summer months. The tough stem structures are largely impervious to pest and disease problems, but if over watered or allowed to soak in water, the roots may develop rot.

Light

In their native habitat, baseball plants are accustomed to plenty of bright, direct sunlight. When grown indoors, baseball plants should receive at least four hours of direct sunlight a day if possible. Loss of color and pattern, as well as a loss of shape, are all indications that your baseball plant is not receiving enough light; etiolated (“leggy”) growth is another indication. Place your baseball plant in a south or east-facing window in your home to ensure it receives adequate sunlight.

Soil

Baseball plants require coarse, well-draining potting soil in order to thrive and should be planted in a potting mix intended for cacti and succulents. Cactus soil is available at most commercial nurseries and garden centers, but if you don’t have one readily available you can easily make your own by mixing 3 parts regular potting soil, 2 parts coarse sand, and 1 part perlite.

Water

Baseball plants, like most succulents and cacti, do not tolerate over watering. Water the plant only when the soil is thoroughly dry. Baseball plants require more water during the spring and summer months, and significantly less water during their dormant period in the fall and winter months.

Temperature and Humidity

Baseball plants appreciate warm temperatures. When grown inside, the average household temperature is more than sufficient. However, be careful to avoid placing your baseball plant in areas with cold drafts, as it can inhibit growth. If grown outdoors, they can tolerate occasional temperatures down to 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fertilizer

As with most succulents, baseball plants do not require regular fertilization, as they are accustomed to growing in nutrient-poor soil. However, fertilizing your baseball plant during the spring can help it to thrive during its peak growing season. Be sure to use a cactus/succulent fertilizer for the best results.

Propagating Baseball Plant

Like other species of Euphorbia, baseball plant is difficult to propagate from seeds, since male and female plants require cross-pollination in order to produce seeds. Further, the seeds are very slow-growing.

Euphorbias such as E. obesa, which have a single stem structure rather than individual branches, are normally propagated by first decapitating the plant at soil level. When small new growth structures emerge around the remaining root body, each new offset can be carefully cut away and replanted in coarse cactus/succulent planting mix. These are quite -growing plants that can take as much as eight years before they mature into flowering plants.

Potting and Repotting

Baseball plants do well in any coarse potting mix formulated for cactus and succulents. They do not require frequent repotting, and should only be repotted once the circumference of the plant is pushing against the edge of the pot. Protective gardening gloves should be worn at all times while repotting baseball plants as their sap can irritate the skin upon contact.

    1. Morning! Interesting plant – Mom is big on cacti but I don’t think she’s ever had one of these. When I woke up initially around 4 am, there was no new snow. Now, 3 hours later, we have a light layer of new snow. Latest prediction shows me in the very bottom of the 3-6 inch area so we shall see. I certainly am not planning on going anywhere any time soon!

when a man dons some make up and dress, no one screams sexual appropriation.
I just can’t claim to be black, but a man can claim to be a woman.

White men have been thoroughly marginalized. Their opinions and ideas are rendered culturally irrelevant. White women are now under assault with the same goal. Marginalize…render irrelevant.
Better yet, make all white people’s opinions and ideas offensive.
The “Great Society” already destroyed the sanctity of the black nuclear family. Now it’s time to finish the job & destroy the nuclear family culture wide. Gender identity will accomplish what racial identity hasn’t.

BREAKING: Biden Administration Loses Major Immigration Case to Florida
    https://www.theflstandard.com/breaking-biden-administration-loses-major-immigration-case-to-florida/

A federal judge orders Biden to follow U.S. Immigration laws after Florida proved in court that the border chaos was intentionally engineered by his administration and policies.

Today, a federal judge sided with Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, ruling that President Joe Biden is responsible for the border crisis claiming the president effectively turned the southwest border into “little more than a speedbump.”

In a scathing 100-plus-page opinion, U.S. District Judge T. Kent Wetherell ruled that Biden’s catch-and-release policy is unlawful. The judge gave the administration seven days to comply with federal immigration law.

“The Court finds in favor of Florida because, as detailed below, the evidence establishes that Defendants have effectively turned the Southwest Border into a meaningless line in the sand and little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country by prioritizing ‘alternatives to detention’ over actual detention and by releasing more than a million aliens into the country – on ‘parole’ or pursuant to the exercise of ‘prosecutorial discretion’ under a wholly inapplicable statute – without even initiating removal proceedings.”

While surfing the broadcasted sports world last night, I noticed that China Inc. has a BASEBALL TEAM playing in JAPAN in Pool B of The World Baseball Classic Tournament.

Mitch McConnell or “somebody assisting him” decided to help out the Republican Wing of the Uni-Party out of its dilemma of being the MAJORITY PARTY in the SENATE, thanks to 3 Democrats being hospitalized, by taking a fall down the steps at a luxury Hotel in DC. Poor Mitch is in the hospital … too bad so sad. The senate is back to VP Kamala Balla as the tie breaker … if only Ms Sinema was truly free….

    .

I have commented on both of the original comments re: the Congressional procedures of J6: There was a request for conferencing by the AZ Rep, Dr. Paul Gosar, which was seconded by Sen. Cruz.

It was at that point in the proceedings which seems to have triggered the ‘emergency’ that eventually brought about ‘certification’.

As regards Tucker, I thoroughly believe Pelosi is sweating bullets.

I’d bet that her daughter is in quite a bit of the Capitol footage — and parlay that into who I bet will be seen with Alexandria in that footage: her documentary photographer, David DePape, who may have also been photographed with the Shaman on J6.

Honestly, why is Vos posing with this guy — other than they were specifically introduced.

Nanzi can’t have all these familiarizations exhibited in light of her husband’s attack.

Her leadership is now gone, and I think Mitch is realizing he is going to get the same treatment . . .

    1. SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has a far higher fatality rate than the flu by several orders of magnitude.
    2. Everyone is at significant risk to die from this virus.
    3. No one has any immunological protection, because this virus is completely new.
    4. Asymptomatic people are major drivers of the spread.
    5. Locking down—closing schools and businesses, confining people to their homes, stopping non-COVID medical care, and eliminating travel—will stop or eliminate the virus.
    6. Masks will protect everyone and stop the spread.
    7. The virus is known to be naturally occurring, and claiming it originated in a lab is a conspiracy theory.
    8. Teachers are at especially high risk.
    9. COVID vaccines stop the spread of the infection.
    10. Immune protection only comes from a vaccine.”

    Raheem Kassam

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Former Rhode Island governor turned Biden Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo gave a scarcely noticed interview to Bloomberg last week, where she cravenly admitted her reluctance to address the Chinese Communist Party’s most critical cultural stranglehold in America: TikTok.

The app, predicted to have 100 million U.S. users by next year, is owned by ByteDance, which in turn is backed by the Chinese Communist Party proper. Asked about the Biden government’s approach, Raimondo responded: “The politician in me thinks you’re gonna literally lose every voter under 35, forever… However much I hate TikTok—and I do, because I see the addiction in the bad s**t that it serves kids—you know, this is America.”

Using the phrase “This is America” to avoid national security measures to limit the influence of a foreign and hostile global actor requires some chutzpah. But not as much as is required to tell us to our faces that the reason they won’t take action is because the zombie hordes of TikTok influencers would roundly condemn them for doing so.

Perhaps Raimondo meant, “This is America… where national security is determined by the fancies of the kids we had to plead with not to eat Tide Pods a few years ago.” In fact, that’s exactly what she meant. It’s also one of the rare occasions I find use for Senator Marco Rubio, who caught the comments last week and said of them:

“People were horrified by the Chinese spy balloon that flew through multiple states in our nation. However, that level of spying happens every day through TikTok, which is a clear national security risk that collects and manipulates content on behalf of the CCP. We know that TikTok has surveilled and spied on journalists, violating civil liberties. This is not just some harmless social media app, but a critical tool that gives Beijing power over the day-to-day lives of more than 100 million Americans. Now is the time to pass my ANTI-SOCIAL CCP Act and end this threat for good.

Bit mealy mouthed, but it gets the point across.

In reality, it seems and sounds more likely from here on Capitol Hill that some form of restriction will be applied to TikTok and similar apps that have foreign owners, foreign origins, and shady data practices. The more people I speak to about it, the more I am convinced TikTok’s days are numbered. Tick, tock…”

  13. “The Vatican’s COVID-19 Vaccine Coin — “The Holy Father has repeatedly stressed the importance of vaccination.”

    Peter A. McCullough, MD, MPH™
    By JOHN LEAKE

ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Last year, Vatican City issued a 20 Euro silver coin. As the Numista catalogue describes it: ‘The coin depicts a doctor, a nurse and a young person who is ready to receive the vaccine. The Holy Father has repeatedly stressed the importance of vaccination, recalling that healthcare is “a moral obligation”, and it is important to “continue efforts to immunize even the poorest peoples.’

After I initially posted this report, I pondered this description (written in the Numista catalogue) and I realized that the formulation “a young person who is ready to receive the vaccine” is identical to the formulation for a communicant “who is ready to receive the host”—in Italian “pronto a ricevere l’Eucaristia.” Realizing this, I wondered who wrote the catalogue copy. Was it the Philatelic and Numismatic Office of the Vatican City State?

The obverse of the coin bears the name Franciscus, the year 2022 (“Anno MMXXII”) and the Coat of Arms of Pope Francis.

As I wrote in a Substack essay last October titled “President Biden Keeps the Faith,” it seems that many have placed something akin to religious faith in the COVID-19 vaccines, which are conceived as the Savior of Mankind. With this commemorative silver coin, issued in the name of Francis, the Holy Father officially endorsed the COVID-19 vaccines and bestowed upon them his sublime authority and prestige.

The commemorative coin reminded me of Pfizer’s Viagra PR campaign. Pfizer initially developed the drug to treat high blood pressure and angina pectoris. However, as the company discovered in clinical trials, the drug was better at inducing erections than managing angina. And so, Pfizer repurposed the substance for erectile dysfunction and launched a massive, global PR campaign—including seeking moral approval from Pope John Paul II. The company’s clever marketing people persuaded him that Viagra would strengthen marriages and aid in procreation.”

NEWTOWN, Pennsylvania — David Balogun isn’t your average 9-year-old. He recently graduated from high school and now he’s taking online classes at Bucks County Community College.

Balogun said it’s been an easy transition from high school, and his teachers acknowledge he isn’t like most college kids.

“They’re able to adapt cause I’m 9, so if I write a little different cause I’m not going to write like a 25-year-old,” said Balogun.

He may be a kid with many accomplishments, however, he has big goals for himself.

“Right now, we’re looking at going to universities or Ivy League universities. I’m looking into studying astrophysics, chemistry, artificial intelligence and engineering,” Balogun said.

    His parents are extremely proud.

“He’s the powerhouse. I’m just the coach directing and leading, giving him the chance to dream with no limits,” said Balogun’s parents, Henry and Ronya.

Balogun is currently enrolled in two classes at the community college and he’s already completed three.

As far as what’s next, he has most of it laid out.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Signs Bill Legalizing Abortions Up to Birth

    Excerpt:

Walz signed into law the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act to enshrine in state statute a “fundamental right” to abortion without limits or safeguards. The bill had passed the House and Senate by narrow margins after Democrat leaders quickly pushed it through the legislature in the opening weeks of the session.

Authored by Rep. Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn, D-Eden Prairie, the bill would allow abortion on demand even late in pregnancy when unborn babies are viable and can feel excruciating pain. The bill also would also deny parents the right to know if their minor daughter is seeking an abortion.

I will continue to get my briefings and others, but I don’t have to go to Ukraine to see it. And my point has always been, I won’t provide a blank check for anything.”

Does anybody here believe that five young healthy Capitol Police Officers making well over $100,000 a year with a dream law enforcement job, incredible retirement, six weeks vacation and no freaking stress committed SUICIDE after the January 6th Protest? It’s more likely that they committed ARKEN-SIDE because they were going to tell the truth about FBI Agent and ANTIFA provocateurs and Nancy Pelosi’s plan to set-up President Trump. It’s been well known that many Capitol Police Officers were MAGA!

  24. Ah, this is interesting….a Murdoch company published DeS’s book…from a WAPO article: “Documents uncovered by ongoing litigation have also revealed the extent of the ongoing hostility toward Trump from Murdoch and other top executives, both before and after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Fox News boss emailed a former company executive in early 2021 that the goal was “to make Trump a non person.” Fox News board member Paul D. Ryan, a former Republican House speaker, told another Fox executive around the same time that he had communicated to both Rupert Murdoch and Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch that there was a “huge inflection point to keep Trump down and move on.”

“Both Rupert and Lachlan agree fully,” Ryan wrote.

Since then, the network has dismissed Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as a contributor because of the network’s supposed ban on political activity. But the policy applies typically to people who themselves are declaring a candidacy, as happened with Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) and former presidential candidate Ben Carson when they ran for political office.

Fox now also frowns upon letting Trump appear on the network by phone, once a standard way for hosting him on the network until he left office, according two people familiar with the situation who, like others interviewed for this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal details. His events and rallies are rarely covered live — and often not at all.

At the same time, Murdoch’s media outlets have lavished attention and praise on Trump’s principal rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who publicly credits the network in his new book — which is published by another company controlled by Murdoch — with aiding his rise in politics. The DeSantis book was heavily promoted last week when the governor made at least five live appearances on the network, according to a tally by Media Matters for America, a liberal group that monitors Fox News programming.”

  25. Well, I had my first post removed from WASocial….but I don’t know why exactly since I can’t recall now which one it was – she said it was relevant, since I had voiced a question as to what is considered “relevant,” but then added something about subjects that had already been posted. So my first disappointment, at least with that particular mod anyway. Hmmm….
