THE HISTORY OF AMETHYST

Amethyst’s use in rudimentary jewelry can be traced back as far as the Neolithic period (approximately 4,000 BC) and samples of it set into gold rings have been uncovered in burial sites from around 2,400 BC.

Amethyst is the name given to purple Quartz and some believe that its name derives from the Greek word ‘Amethustos’, ‘a’ meaning ‘not’ and ‘methustos’ meaning ‘to intoxicate’. In ancient times, wealthy lords who wanted to stay sober were said to have had drinking glasses or goblets made from Amethyst. While pouring wine for their guests they could serve themselves water, as the dark purple hue of the gem would disguise the color of the drink so it looked like wine, thus allowing the lord appear to be partaking in a tipple! Following the same theme, it was thought in ancient times if you wished to save a drunkard from delirium you could mix crushed Amethyst into a person’s drink.

One legend from Greek mythology tells the tale of Dionysus, the god of intoxication, and a young beautiful maiden, named Amethystos, who refused his advances. Dionysus let loose fierce tigers while Amethystos was on her way to pray to the goddess Diana. Before they reached her, Diana turned her into a statue of pure crystalline Quartz to protect her from the advancing tigers. Humbled by Amethystos’ resolution, and horrified at what he had almost done to her, he wept tears of wine. Legend says his tears turned the colorless Quartz purple, thus creating Amethyst.

Amethyst is mentioned in the Old Testament as one of the twelve stones representing the twelve tribes of Israel and was also one of the twelve gemstones adorning the breastplate of the high priest Aaron (Exodus 39). With its association with piety and celibacy, Amethyst has been set into rings and worn by Cardinals, Bishops and Priests of the Catholic Church since the Middle Ages. Over the years, along with its use by the Church, the gem has also been cherished by royalty and several pieces can be found in the British Crown Jewels. Amethyst was also known as a personal favorite of Catherine the Great.

A bracelet worn by Queen Charlotte of England in the early 1700s was valued at £200 at that time. However, shortly after this a new discovery of Amethyst deposits was made in Brazil, which dramatically reduced the value of the Queen’s bracelet. This provides a good example of how the value of genuine gemstones (just like the stock market) can go up and down based on supply and demand. When mines are eventually exhausted prices tend to increase; as new deposits are found, gemstone prices generally decrease.

Amethyst is steeped in a rich and romantic history owing to its association with St Valentine. The patron saint of romantic love wore an Amethyst ring carved with the image of Cupid and this lead to Amethyst becoming a birthstone for the month of February. Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that Amethyst quickens the intelligence and helped to dissipate evil thoughts.

AMETHYST GEMSTONE INFORMATION

Amethyst is the birthstone of February, and is the official gemstone for Wednesday. It is also the official gemstone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversaries. The gem features a trigonal crystal system. Amethyst occurs in many shades, from a light, slightly lavender pinkish to a deep purple similar to that of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Amethyst can also be slightly pleochroic, which means that when light hits the gem, shades of different colors such as reds and blues can be seen from different angles. The color comes from iron impurities within the stone, without which it would be colorless. The amount of iron within each stone determines how deep the color is.

As a gemstone, it was once as expensive as Emerald, but in the 19th century Brazil came to dominate the gemstone landscape with their huge scale mining operations that have long since diminished. Amethyst still ranks as the most expensive and desired variety of Quartz due to its unique natural deep purple body color and exceptional clarity. Fine grade Amethyst is found in Brazil, Zambia and most recently an exquisite and completely distinctive variety was discovered in Morocco.

In Brazil this stone forms in hollow, crystal lined geodes and in other locations it forms over millions of years embedded in its host rock. The most desired color for the body color of Amethyst is a deep ‘Siberian’ purple reminiscent of the now depleted original source. Finest examples of Amethyst form in two distinct color groups; a deep purple with undertones of a cool blue or a reddish purple, sometimes referred to as ‘raspberry’.

As there is no single dominant organization or ruling body relating to gemstones, there are often different approaches to how a gem is graded or named. Many organizations within the jewelry industry for instance refer to Green Quartz as Green Amethyst, while others refer to Green Quartz as Prasiolite, Amegreen or Vermarine. This is a really hot topic in the gem world, with some believing that the name Amethyst can only be applied to purple Quartz, others saying if a Quartz’s green color is derived from heat treated Amethyst then it should be named Green Amethyst and others saying it should be known as Green Quartz or Prasiolite. Prasiolite has been known to appear naturally in a small mine in Silesia, Poland, and claims of natural Green Amethyst discoveries have also been made in Namibia, the US state of Nevada, Zambia and Tanzania.

Different tones of Amethyst have different prefixes. ‘Siberian Amethyst’ refers to darker Amethyst regardless of whether they are from Siberia or not (though traditionally they were before the mines were exhausted), normally having a tone of 75-80%. Amethyst with a more pinkish tone (20-30% tone) is named ‘Rose de France Amethyst’. Amethyst is a hard and durable gemstone measuring 7 on the Mohs scale. In its rough state, the gem often forms in long prismatic crystals, making it ideal for cutting. Because its color can often appear banded, it is usually cut into round brilliant shapes which helps the gem display a more uniformed color when viewed through the table or crown facets.

One of the largest Amethyst mines in the world is in Maissau in Austria and is unusual in that it is open to the public. If you want to travel further, then the Amethyst mines in Brazil are considered to be the best in the world and as long as you don’t mind roughing it a little, you’re sure to have a great adventure visiting the local artisan miners.

    Speaking via video link, the English musician, described ahead of his speech by Russia’s ambassador to the U.N., Vasily Nebenzya, as “one of the most prominent activists of the contemporary anti-war movement,” told U.N. officials in New York the invasion of Ukraine was not without provocation and criticized the action taken by both sides of the conflict.

    “The invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation was illegal. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” he said. “Also, the Russian invasion of Ukraine was not unprovoked, so I also condemn the provocateurs in the strongest possible terms.”

    Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, glossed over Waters’ reference to the illegality of the invasion. In remarks apparently prepared before Waters spoke, the diplomat complimented him on “a very precise analysis of events.”

    Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.N., Sergiy Kyslytsya, strongly criticized Waters’ remarks in his own address to the council. “How sad for his former fans to see him accept that he is just another brick in the wall of Russian disinformation and propaganda,” he told the chamber. “Keep strumming the guitar, Mr. Waters,” the diplomat added. “It suits you more than lecturing the security council on how to do its job. No flying pigs here, please.”

    The English musician didn’t elaborate by identifying the provocateurs he referred to, but he did offer a more in-depth analysis of his view on the conflict in an interview for the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung published on Feb. 4. There, he called the U.S.-led NATO provocation of Russia in the years leading up to its invasion of Ukraine last February “extreme” and “very damaging to the interests of all the ordinary people of Europe.”

    In the interview, he called the ongoing conflict a “proxy war with Russia” and claimed it had originated as a result of a “F*ck you” from the U.S. and its NATO allies to Russian President Vladimir Putin who he claimed had historically “extended his hand to the West in an attempt to build an architecture of peace in Europe.”

    “What everyone in the West is being told is the ‘unprovoked invasion’ narrative. Huh? Anyone with half a brain can see that the conflict in Ukraine was provoked beyond all measure. It is probably the most provoked invasion ever,” the English musician told the newspaper, claiming the vast majority of the West has been “brainwashed” by Western mainstream media into believing a Russophobic narrative.

    “We need to get all our leaders around the table and force them to say: ‘No more war!’” Waters added.”

    ENTIRE ARTICLE: “Following a report that the United States bombed Germany’s Nord Stream gas pipelines from one of the most renowned journalists in the U.S., Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is calling for an investigation into the new allegations.

    “As the American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh claims to have learned from a source involved in the operational planning, the United States of America is said to have planned the demolition of Nord Stream and carried it out jointly with Norway,” wrote the co-chairman of the AfD parliamentary group, Tino Chrupalla. In addition, Chrupalla urges Germany to not only investigate the report from Hersh, but also take dramatic action if the report is true and subsequently expel U.S. troops from the country.

    “The Pulitzer Prize winner’s suspicions must be investigated. Has NATO’s leading power carried out an attack on our country’s vital critical infrastructure in European waters? Then one would have to question whether the alliance guarantees security in Europe or rather endangers it. The consequence would be the withdrawal of all U.S. troops,” he wrote.

    As reported by Remix News, Hersh details in his report how the Biden administration started planning the attack on the vital gas pipelines back in 2021. According to Hersh’s national security source, the attack was carried out by the CIA using U.S. Navy diving experts who planted C4 on the pipes, which was triggered to explode three months later using a sophisticated sonar signal from a buoy dropped by the Norwegian Air Force.

    The report also details the internal back-and-forth debate that raged between the White House, State Department, the military, and the intelligence community, with a number of officials warning of the catastrophic consequences such an attack would have should the world learn which nation was behind the sabotage. According to Hersh, one source said, “This is not kiddie stuff,” and further stated that if the attacks were traced back to the United States, “it’s an act of war.”

    The AfD and the Left Party have long been suspicious about the potential role of the U.S. in blowing up the pipelines. German MP Sevim Dagdelen, of the Left Party, said there is ample reason to believe the U.S. was involved, highlighting how President Joe Biden said he would “end” the Nord Stream 2 if Russia invaded Ukraine. Dagdelen suggested that blowing up the pipelines was Washington’s attempt to prevent rapprochement between Berlin and Moscow, as well as ensure Europe was buying U.S. shale gas and not cheap Russian energy, which has long served as the bedrock of Germany’s economy.

    Perhaps most importantly, Sahra Wagenknecht, a leading Left Party politician and one of the most popular politicians in Germany, linked to Hersh’s article in a Twitter post that was seen nearly a million times. She wrote that “while the German federal government invokes transatlantic friendship and follows the USA uncritically, the U.S. government ensure that the Nord Stream pipelines were blown up, as Pulitzer Prize winner (Seymour) Hersh has meticulously researched. Whose interest does the federal government represent?”

    Germany’s ruling parties have mostly ignored the story or downplayed it, and much of the German media is attempting to discredit Hersh’s report by merely pointing out that the Kremlin is using it as evidence it had nothing to do with the pipeline explosions. However, the German media has done little so far to dispel the central details of Hersh’s report, and even before the report, top media outlets were attempting to discredit any claim that the U.S. was behind the attack as “absurd” and a “conspiracy theory.”

    The German government and media class may also have a substantial motive to ignore or downplay the report, especially if the core facts turn out to be true. It would be a political disaster for a government that has aligned behind the U.S. government against Russia while at the same time abandoning cheap Russian energy for expensive liquified gas from the U.S.

    Furthermore, the environmental toll of the attack cannot be downplayed due to the massive volumes of gas that were leaked into the ocean. The Green party, which has made fighting pollution a central tenet of its platform, would be seen as aligning itself with a country that produced one of the biggest environmental disasters in the Baltic Sea in recent history.

    Typically, destroying critical infrastructure of another country is seen as an act of war, and if Germans start believing the U.S. was behind the attack, it may lead to a sharp shift in German public sentiment in favor of parties such as AfD and the Left party, a political outcome the government would likely desperately try to avoid. At the same time, deep skepticism about the entire NATO security alliance, and questions about how the U.S. could commit an act of war against its own ally would also raise extremely vexing issues for the entire Western liberal establishment.

    The question now is whether further leaks about potential U.S. involvement in the sabotage attack will come to light in the coming months. If further corroborating information comes out of Norway or other unexpected sources, the U.S., NATO, and Germany may have an unprecedented crisis on their hands.

    There is also the question of whether any German officials knew about the attack beforehand and how much Germany has already learned over the course of its own investigation. The AfD wants to explore all these points via a parliamentary investigative committee. “All the open questions must now be answered by investigative committees,” wrote the AfD co-leader.

    “The Bundestag has a right to know what knowledge the federal government has. Could government officials have been privy to the planning of the attack? All the findings of national authorities must flow together in the European Parliament. The European states must not put up with such violent interference. They are even less allowed to participate in it.”

    Several country leaders have now confirmed the explosions which caused leaks in both the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in the Baltic Sea could not have been an accident, but have stopped short of pointing the finger at any specific saboteur.

    This is to say that the wide biodistribution of the mRNA that came to light after rollout was never a bug. It is a feature of BioNTech’s mRNA technology. Having elicited an immune response by way of injection into the groin, Sahin is even said to have wondered, “How substantial could the immune response be if a vaccine got into all lymphatic tissues around the body, and recruited all the resident DCs [dendritic cells] into action?” (p. 105)

    So, why has the CDC been lying about this for the last two years and insisting that the mRNA “stays in the arm?” Well, the obvious answer is that the idea of the mRNA staying at the injection site is reassuring, since otherwise we could fear systemic adverse effects of precisely the sort that have emerged since rollout.

    It is worth noting, moreover, that in developing its vaccine, as discussed in my earlier article here, BioNTech simply skipped the so-called safety pharmacology studies whose purpose is precisely to test a candidate vaccine for potential systemic adverse effects – and regulators, including the FDA, let the company do it.

    Despite Orbán’s pessimism about ending the conflict anytime soon, he is calling for peace and a ceasefire. “Saving lives is only possible with peace and a ceasefire. We Hungarians remain on the side of peace, the prime minister said in a video published on his social media page on Thursday. Orbán noted that Hungary had provided the largest humanitarian aid to Ukraine in its history last year. “We have allowed more than 1 million refugees from Ukraine to cross our borders,” he added.

    The prime minister stressed that “we Hungarians will continue to help the Ukrainians with humanitarian aid, but we will not continue to supply weapons.” Orbán said that the peace negotiations, a ceasefire as quickly as possible, and a settlement leading to lasting peace remained in Hungary’s interests. The Hungarian prime minister has long warned that Europe is being “dragged” deeper into the war, which could have catastrophic consequences in the long term.

    “Therefore, we (in Hungary) are not in danger of being swept into it, but others are not only in danger but have already been swept away. And then there are the statements about whether they (Western countries) are at war with Russia or not. This is a ridiculous situation because who is at war is not a question of statements. If you are sending weapons, if you are financing the entire annual budget of one of the warring parties, if you promise new weapons shipments, more and more modern weapons, then you can say whatever you want. No matter what you say, you are in the war,” said Orbán last month.”

    Father Jason Charron: “Glory to Jesus Christ, Father Jason Charron here. I’m sure you heard today, as many people have, that Pope Francis again has called for the decriminalizing of homosexual acts among other things on his return flight from the African visit home to the Vatican. And it struck me that a lot of the Holy Father’s public comments, you know, revolve around this issue of homosexuality as though that were the center piece of his ministry. You don’t hear a whole lot of comments from him calling for the defense of persecuted Christians in place like, oh, I don’t know, China. Or the situation of the Christians in places like, oh, I don’t know, Saudi Arabia. Or the situation faced by Christian families in the formerly Catholic countries of Europe and North America—places where his faithful flock face persecution for believing in the official teaching of the church that he leads. So, on the one hand, his flock are persecuted for believing the faith that he is embodying as the visible head of the church. But on the other hand, he uses that position as bishop of Rome and successor of St. Peter to advocate for things that don’t pertain to this calling as bishop and as pope.

    “Jesus Christ did not give us the papacy in order to decriminalize sodomy laws. It’s a shame because he has a great platform, and that platform can be used for two things: to search out and find the saints and embolden them, and to search out and find the sinners and call them to repentance. The beauty of this is that we all are in both of those categories. We all have sinned, and we all have at one point or another encountered someone in our life who loved us so much that they were bold enough to dare to challenge us to raise our game, to follow in the footsteps of He who is the great lover of mankind, Jesus Christ.

    “You know, there is a passage in Scripture, and it is in First Corinthians, Chapter 6, Verse 9. And it says this: ‘Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Do not be deceived. Do not be deceived,’ St. Paul says. ‘Neither the immoral, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor the drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you, but you were watched, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of Jesus Christ and the spirit of our God.

    “That is the beauty of our Christian faith is that it’s not elitist and it’s not snobbery. Such were some of you—adulterers, idolaters, revilers, homosexuals, thieves, what have you. But not anymore. You were washed. You were sanctified. You were called to something better: holiness, joy, a life of courage and conviction, being set apart from the ordinary and the compromised and become free and brave.

    “And this is the pity of Pope Francis. This is the great shame—that he has abandoned his first love and instead of preaching the Gospel, emboldening the saints and calling sinners to repentance, he’s using his platform to embolden sinners and to shame the saints into silence in conformity with the world. This reminds me of what our Lord said in the Book of Revelation: ‘Nevertheless, I have somewhat against you thee, because you have left your first love.’ This is Revelation, Chapter 2, speaking to the church in Ephesus.

    “‘Remember, remember, therefore, from the heights that you have fallen and repent, and do the first works, or else I will come to thee quickly and I will remove your candlestick unless you repent.’ And, so, I say this to my father in Christ, my naked father in Christ, maybe like a drunken Noah: For the sake of your own dignity, the dignity of your office, is to repent from this insanity, Pope Francis, and preach the Gospel, calling all people to repentance. And, if, you know, nations decide that they want to enact laws that reflect the moral and spiritual tradition that built up that nation, then it is not for the head of secular state—for that’s what the Vatican City is, it’s a secular state—it is not for the head of another state to come into those countries and start lecturing them on how they need to change their laws.

    “I would be interested in knowing what the Vatican City state has on its books regarding sodomy or abortion. Hopefully, those laws reflect the spiritual patrimony of the Catholic faith. Yet, what we have here is the Holy Father, Pope Francis, going into these nations and speaking not about the Gospel so much as but about urging these people to change their code of civil law to reflect the zeitgeist.

    “Who do you belong to Francis? Do you belong to Christ or do you belong to Sodom?

    “We are called to repentance and there is no one, no one who receives an exception to the call to repentance. If we make exceptions for homosexuals, then we need to make exceptions for adulterers, for people who are kleptomaniacs, for people who like to set fire to their neighbors houses. It is all or nothing. Repent and return to your first love.”

The Kansas City Chiefs are the reason Rhonda LeValdo is in Arizona for the Super Bowl. But she won’t be here to watch the game. LeValdo and other Native Americans will be pushing again for the Chiefs to abandon the team’s name, mascot and fan-driven “tomahawk chop.” It’s the same goal they had in 2021 when the Chiefs were vying for a second-consecutive Super Bowl win in Tampa, Florida.

    LeValdo will be joined by others from Kansas City and tribes in Arizona to demonstrate outside State Farm Stadium in Glendale. The president of the Kansas City franchise says he respects their right to protest. Fights against the appropriation of tribal cultures and images have endured for decades – not just with the Chiefs. Native Americans say using iconography and words with Native connotations demeans them and perpetuates racist stereotypes.”

    The National Archives on Friday released 74 pages of emails showing an Archives lawyer coordinating with President Joe Biden’s attorneys to secretly retrieve classified materials from the Penn Biden Center before the 2022 midterm elections.

    According to House oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY), the Archives was previously instructed by either the White House or the Department of Justice (DOJ) to hide initial revelations of the Biden classified document scandal from the American people.

    In addition, the establishment media reported at least three times that Biden and the DOJ agreed to hide the scandal from public view with likely no plans to disclose it until the scandal was leaked to CBS News on January 9, weeks after the initial trove was found by Biden’s personal lawyers November 2.

    The emails released Friday due to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by Bloomberg, show the Archives secretly coordinating with and accommodating Biden’s personal attorneys to retrieve classified records. The emails also show questions were raised about whether classified materials were also stored in Boston and Philadelphia.

    The initial reason or cause for the search at the Penn Biden Center by Biden’s attorneys remains unknown.

    The emails indicate Biden’s personal attorneys and Archives lawyer Gary Stern had a “conversation” as early as November 4 about the classified scandal.

    On November 7, one day before the midterm elections, Stern emailed Biden’s personal lawyers Bob Bauer and Pat Moore to arrange a time to secretly collect materials in a “US Gov van” from the Penn Biden Center in Washington, DC.

    “Bob/Pat, following our conversation on Friday, we would like to make arrangements for our staff to come back to the DC PennBiden Center space to assess the remaining boxes and take custody of whichever ones we deem appropriate for further review,” Stern wrote Bauer and Moore.

    A second email from November 7 shows more accommodation from the Archives. Stern asked Biden’s lawyers if personnel from the Archives could return to the Penn Biden Center “to assess the remaining boxes and take custody of whichever ones we deem appropriate for further review.”

    Bauer said the Archives could return and pick up more documents the next day, and noted that he was “also currently checking to determine whether there are any similar materials in the Pennsylvania Penn-Biden space, and we will report back to you today.”

    Stern also told Moore to ensure the boxes of materials were kept in a secure location. “Please ensure that the boxes in your office in Boston remain secure in a locked space and are not accessed by anyone,” he said in relation to the Boston location.

    The emails come after the Archives failed to provide information about the document scandal to Comer before the January 24 deadline. Comer called the missed deadline “very disappointing.”

    Comer has also said the Archives was previously instructed by either the White House or the DOJ to hide initial revelations of the Biden classified document scandal from the American people.

    “There are only two people that could have given those orders, and that’s either the Department of Justice with [Attorney General] Merrick Garland or the White House with Joe Biden,” Comer told Fox News.

    “I don’t think we would know about these documents had it not been for investigative reporting, so we want to know why the administration wasn’t transparent sooner,” Comer said.
