Sleepy Hollow

The Legend

Sleepy Hollow is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York.  The village is known internationally through “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, an 1820 short story about the local area and its infamous specter, the Headless Horseman, written by Washington Irving, who lived in Tarrytown and is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

The “Legend” relates the tale of Ichabod Crane, a lean, lanky and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut. Throughout his stay at Sleepy Hollow, Crane is able to make himself both “useful and agreeable” to the families that he lodges with. He occasionally assists with light farm work, helping to make hay, mend fences, caring for numerous farm animals, and cutting firewood. Besides his more dominant role as the Schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane also assists the various mothers of the town by helping to take care of their young children, taking on a more “gentle and ingratiating” role. Crane is also quite popular among the women of the town for his education and his talent for “carrying the whole budget of local gossip,” which makes him a welcomed sight within female circles.

As a firm believer in witchcraft and the like, Crane has an unequaled “appetite for the marvelous,” which is only increased by his stay in “the spell-bound region” of Sleepy Hollow. A source of “fearful pleasure” for Crane is to visit the Old Dutch wives and listen to their “marvelous tales of ghosts and goblins,” haunted locations, and the tales of the Headless Horseman, or the “Galloping Hessian of the Hollow, as they sometimes called him.” Throughout the story, Ichabod Crane competes with Abraham “Brom Bones” Van Brunt, the town rowdy and local hero, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of wealthy farmer Baltus Van Tassel. Ichabod Crane, a Yankee and an outsider, sees marriage to Katrina as a means of procuring Van Tassel’s extravagant wealth. Brom, unable to force Ichabod into a physical showdown to settle things, plays a series of pranks on the superstitious schoolmaster. The tension among the three continues for some time, and is soon brought to a head. On a placid autumn night, the ambitious Crane attends a harvest party at the Van Tassels’ homestead. He dances, partakes in the feast, and listens to ghostly legends told by Brom and the locals, but his true aim is to propose to Katrina after the guests leave. His intentions, however, are ill-fated, as he fails to secure Katrina’s hand.

Following his rejected suit, Ichabod rides home on his temperamental plough horse named Gunpowder, “heavy-hearted and crestfallen” through the woods between Van Tassel’s farmstead and the farmhouse in Sleepy Hollow where he is quartered at the time. As he passes several purportedly haunted spots, his active imagination is engorged by the ghost stories told at Baltus’ harvest party. After nervously passing a lightning-stricken tulip tree purportedly haunted by the ghost of British spy Major André, Ichabod encounters a cloaked rider at an intersection in a menacing swamp. Unsettled by his fellow traveler’s eerie size and silence, the teacher is horrified to discover that his companion’s head is not on his shoulders, but on his saddle.

In a frenzied race to the bridge adjacent to the Old Dutch Burying Ground, where the Hessian is said to “vanish, according to rule, in a flash of fire and brimstone” before crossing it, Ichabod rides for his life, desperately goading Gunpowder down the Hollow. However, while Crane and Gunpowder are able to cross the bridge ahead of the ghoul, Ichabod turns back in horror to see the monster rear his horse and hurl his severed head directly at him with a fierce motion. The schoolmaster attempts to dodge, but is too late; the missile strikes his head and sends him tumbling headlong into the dust from his horse.

The next morning, Gunpowder is found eating the grass at his master’s gate, but Ichabod has mysteriously disappeared from the area, leaving Katrina to later marry Brom Bones, who was said “to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related”. Indeed, the only relics of the schoolmaster’s flight are his discarded hat, Gunpowder’s trampled saddle, and a mysterious shattered pumpkin. Although the true nature of both the Headless Horseman and Ichabod’s disappearance that night are left open to interpretation, the story implies that the Horseman was really Brom (an extremely agile rider) in disguise, using a Jack-o’-lantern as a false head, and suggests that Crane survived the fall from Gunpowder and immediately fled Sleepy Hollow in horror, never to return but to prosper elsewhere, or was killed by Brom (which may be unlikely, since Brom was said to have “more mischief than ill-will in his composition”). Irving’s narrator concludes the story, however, by stating that the old Dutch wives continue to promote the belief that Ichabod was “spirited away by supernatural means”, and a legend develops around his disappearance and sightings of his melancholy spirit.

In a Postscript (sometimes unused in certain editions), the narrator states the circumstances in which he heard the story from an old gentleman “at a Corporation meeting at the ancient city of Manhattoes“, who didn’t “believe one-half of it [himself].”

The Village

Located 25 miles north of New York City along the eastern shore of the Hudson River, The Village of Sleepy Hollow offers a unique blend of natural beauty and urban amenities along with world-renowned historic landmarks and modern attributes.

While an unusual name, “Sunnyside” is a name for a home in Sleepy Hollow. Washington Irving took over ownership of the structure in the year of 1835. At that time, it was nothing more than a small, ordinary cottage. He and his family worked hard to renovate the structure, and took great pride in the final project. This home is a beautifully designed structure that sits on the bank of a river – the Hudson to be exact. You can get a good look at the river by a small, secret path that leads from the home to the banks of the river. It has been said that apparitions have appeared, doing various tasks. It is believed that the nieces of Irving are often seen tidying up the home. Many have claimed to have seen Irving himself.

If you would like to visit the grave of the famous Washington Irving, you can do so at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. While there, you can also discover the final resting places of the following famous individuals: Andrew Carnegie, William Rockefeller, Walter Chrysler, and even the notable Elizabeth Arden. It has been said, on more than one occasion, that an apparition has been seen among the graves. Many who have walked through the cemetery often express the fact that they hear silent whispering which cannot be explained.

Old Dutch Church and Burial Ground – The burial grounds that are located at the Old Dutch Church are said to be among one of the oldest ones in all of the United States. It is said that the popular “Headless Horseman” can be clearly seen making his route through and around these burial grounds. When visiting here, you can see some very popular names on the grave stones. These include Eleanor Van Tassel Brush, who Washington Irving used a personality called “Katrina” from his story. Abraham Martling, who was reflected as the character “Brom Bones” can also be discovered here.

Patriot’s Park – If you go to the area that is between the cities of Sleepy Hollow, and Tarrytown, you will discover a park. During the American Revolutionary War, the Americans captured a soldier that was of Hessian decent. He was immediately executed by way of beheading. An apparition that lacks a head is often said to linger throughout the park grounds. Irving took this legend of the soldier that is headless for his tale.

Was Dr. “Science” Fauci’s daughter hired based on merit or based on Daddy?

Another Alison, Alison Schumer, works for Facebook. Her sister, Jessica Schumer, works as a lobbyist for Amazon.

  3. “The New York Post Was Just Hacked. Here are the Worst Headline Changes the Hackers Have Made So Far”

Entire Article: “The New York Post was hacked on Thursday morning. The miscreants got into the back end, changed headlines, and began posting them onto social media. “The New York Post has been hacked,” the Post said on Twitter. “We are currently investigating the cause.”

Here are the worst headlines that have been posted, so far.

It appears that the Post’s Twitter account has gotten the social media posting side of the issue under control. Unsurprisingly, the hacker is spreading leftist messages that falsely push the narrative that conservatives seek violence against Democratic politicians and those they criticize.

One post, for example, slanders Lee Zeldin, a Republican Congressman from New York who has been subject to repeated assassination attempts during the 2022 midterms campaign.”

When the Frost is on the Punkin
            BY JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock,
And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin’ turkey-cock,
And the clackin’ of the guineys, and the cluckin’ of the hens,
            And the rooster’s hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;
            O, it’s then’s the times a feller is a-feelin’ at his best,
With the risin’ sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,
As he leaves the house, bareheaded, and goes out to feed the stock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock.

They’s something kindo’ harty-like about the atmusfere
When the heat of summer’s over and the coolin’ fall is here—
Of course we miss the flowers, and the blossums on the trees,
            And the mumble of the hummin’-birds and buzzin’ of the bees;
But the air’s so appetizin’; and the landscape through the haze
Of a crisp and sunny morning of the airly autumn days
Is a pictur’ that no painter has the colorin’ to mock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock.

The husky, rusty russel of the tossels of the corn,
            And the raspin’ of the tangled leaves, as golden as the morn;
The stubble in the furries—kindo’ lonesome-like, but still
            A-preachin’ sermuns to us of the barns they growed to fill;
            The strawstack in the medder, and the reaper in the shed;
The hosses in theyr stalls below—the clover over-head!—
O, it sets my hart a-clickin’ like the tickin’ of a clock,
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!

Then your apples all is gethered, and the ones a feller keeps
            Is poured around the celler-floor in red and yeller heaps;
And your cider-makin’ ’s over, and your wimmern-folks is through
With their mince and apple-butter, and theyr souse and saussage, too! …
I don’t know how to tell it—but ef sich a thing could be
As the Angels wantin’ boardin’, and they’d call around on me—
I’d want to ’commodate ’em—all the whole-indurin’ flock—
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock!

  5. “Kari Lake Holds Emergency Press Conference, Gives the Fake News Media a Beatdown They’ll Never Forget” By Matthew Burke • Oct. 27, 2022

Entire Article @ TheLibertyDaily: “Republican Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake announced on Thursday afternoon that she was holding an “emergency press conference” and the “fake news” media outlets that showed up probably regret it.

As you can see from the video below, Lake, an America First candidate who’s endorsed by President Donald Trump, addressed reports by Democrat opponent Katie Hobbs of a supposed break-in at Hobbs campaign headquarters. Hobbs immediately blamed Lake, without evidence, and Lake responded by calling the smear “Jussie Smollett Part Two”, a reference to homosexual race hoaxer Jussie Smollett, who infamously staged a fake race-hate event that was immediately reported as real by the Democrat Media Complex.

Kari Lake’s press conference was not only attended by local media, naturally, but was also attended by conservative outlets like RedState. It should be noted that even some international media attended, a testimony to Lake’s rising political stardom.

“We’re going to do a tutorial on how fake, bogus, defamatory news is made at the hands of many of you,” Lake opened. “My desperate opponent, who’s sinking like a lead weight in water, pulled a stunt and you guys fell for it. She put out a defamatory statement and you all ran with it. You didn’t do your journalistic duty. It was malpractice of journalism like I’ve never seen before.”

Lake speaks from experience, being a former news anchor for the Fox local affiliate in Arizona for 22 years. Amazingly, this same outlet displayed a graphic on Thursday showing Hobbs defeating Lake, 53-47%. But there’s just one problem: The election is 12 days from now. This is despite Lake soaring to a whopping 11-point lead over Hobbs in the most recent polling, an almost unheard-of margin in what is considered by many to be a “swing” state.

Lake skillfully browbeats local Arizona stations for ignoring the new poll, hammering them for being wings of the Democrat Party and nothing more than propagandists. Democrat Katie Hobbs, the current Arizona secretary of state who somehow managed to stay in office overseeing elections as she runs for governor, is a twice-convicted racist who refuses to debate Kari Lake on the issues that Arizona citizens care about.

After watching Kari Lake’s prowess in destroying the fake news media, it’s easy to understand why Katie Hobbs refuses to debate her.

  6. European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton speaks during a signature ceremony regarding the Chips Act at EU headquarters in Brussels, Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. (AP Photo/Virginia Mayo, file)

    Entire Article @ ReMIX:

“Among the various challenges Elon Musk faces as the new owner of Twitter, one of his biggest might be the European Union, especially if he moves forward with many of his promised efforts to restore free speech on the platform. After Musk tweeted that “the bird is free!” following his purchase of Twitter, EU Commissioner Thierry Breton warned him, writing, “In Europe, the bird will fly by our [European Union] rules.”

Breton simply wrote “DSA,” referring to the EU’s Digital Service Act, which is a broad act, but one of the fundamental elements of the act is designed to regulate and restrict speech on the web under the guise of “combating hate speech.” In essence, the DSA gives the EU broad powers to censor political dissidents and political speech it deems a threat to the power of the left-liberal establishment.

“The Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act aim to create a safer digital space where the fundamental rights of users are protected and to establish a level playing field for businesses,” reads the act’s description on the European Commission website.

The European Council outlines how the DSA will operate in principle, writing: “The DSA follows the principle that what is illegal offline must also be illegal online. It aims to protect the digital space against the spread of illegal content, and to ensure the protection of users’ fundamental rights.”

“The obligations introduced are proportionate to the nature of the services concerned and tailored to the number of users, meaning that very large online platforms (VLOPs) and very large online search engines (VLOSEs) will be subject to more stringent requirements. Services with more than 45 million monthly active users in the European Union will fall into the category of very large online platforms and very large search engines.”

Musk reportedly has plans to reduce moderation, but such plans may come into conflict with the DSA, which demands platforms partake in what is likely to be aggressive content moderation. The law is not yet in force, but it is expected to radically restrict free speech in Europe.

“The DSA will be directly applicable across the EU and will apply fifteen months or from 1 January 2024, whichever comes later, after entry into force. As regards the obligations for very large online platforms and very large online search engines, the DSA will apply from an earlier date, that is four months after their designation,” reads the site.

It is unclear what will constitute “hate speech” or “disinformation” or who will be the arbiter of these designations, but for example, the vast majority of fact-checkers working for Facebook in Central and Eastern Europe are funded by billionaire oligarch George Soros, whose money has flowed through nearly every major left-liberal NGO and establishment figure in the West, which means those opposed to mass immigration, restrictions on freedom of speech, or supporters for traditional family values, may find themselves designated as purveyors of “hate speech” and subject to fines or censorship under the DSA.

On top of the DSA, Musk undoubtedly features numerous challenges ahead, including a potential flight of advertisers who may boycott his platform, as well as app restrictions from the Google Play and Apple Store unless Musk regulates the platform according to the standards dictated by the rival tech companies. In addition, Musk could also face threats from many different directions, including, for example, hosts cutting off cloud support, such as what happened to Parler shortly after the 2020 elections. Banks could also cut off payment processing and U.S. regulators may also be able to fine and harass his platform.

The reality is that Twitter already features plenty of speech that could fall under the category of “hate speech,” by the EU’s vague definition of the word.

The European Council outlines how the DSA will operate in principle, writing: “The DSA follows the principle that what is illegal offline must also be illegal online. It aims to protect the digital space against the spread of illegal content, and to ensure the protection of users’ fundamental rights.”

A number of organizations that are backed by billionaire oligarch George Soros and his Open Society Foundation are on the list of “stakeholders” for DSA, including Avaaz and Amnesty International. Thierry Breton is also a stakeholder, along with top tech firms such as Google, IBM, Facebook, and Twitter, along with activist NGOs like HateAid.”

  7. “EU nations agree to ban internal combustion cars by 2035 — The ban is to come into effect in 2035, pending a 2026 review”
    October 28, 2022

FILE — In this Wednesday, April 27, 2016 photo an e-car is connected with a public charge base in Berlin, Germany. Germany’s government wants to massively expand the country’s charging network for electric cars with 6.3 billion euros ($6.17 billion) over the next three years as it expects more and more drivers to turn from combustion cars to more climate-friendly electromobility. (AP Photo/Michael Sohn, file)

Entire Article @ ReMIX: “The European Parliament and the 27 EU member states have reached an agreement to ban the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035, the Czech EU presidency announced on Thursday. The deal is part of the EU’s drive to reduce transport emissions in the bloc to as close to zero as possible.

The decision will be reviewed again in 2026. Under the EU’s climate change package, emissions are to be cut by 55 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, with climate neutrality to be achieved by 2050.

The European Parliament voted on June 8 to require manufacturers to market only cars and vans that do not emit climate-damaging greenhouse gases from the middle of the next decade. However, the ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines has sparked fierce disputes with Germany, which has a major car industry.

“The world is changing and we need to stay at the forefront of developments. I believe we can take advantage of this technological transition,” said Jozef Síkela, the Czech minister for industry and trade, who currently holds the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, adding that the roadmap outlined would make the targets achievable for car manufacturers.

The arrangement also includes incentives to electric car manufacturers and exemptions for smaller manufacturers on internal combustion vehicles.

“With these targets, we create clarity for the car industry and stimulate innovation and investments for car manufacturers. In addition, purchasing and driving zero-emission cars will become cheaper for consumers,” EU Rapporteur Jan Huitema (Renew, NL) said.

“I am pleased that today we reached an agreement with the Council on an ambitious revision of the targets for 2030 and supported a 100 percent target for 2035. This is crucial to reach climate neutrality by 2050 and make clean driving more affordable,” he added.”

MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. (KOLR) — It was Kason Johnson’s 8th birthday. As he was walking with his mother to the family car, he suffered an all-too-common accident many people experience around his age: he lost his balloons. Up and away they went, flying from the town of Mountain Grove, Missouri, never to be seen by Kason again.

Kason is a second-grader at Mountain Grove Elementary. On Oct. 16, he celebrated his eighth birthday. While he was at school, he received balloons and snacks to celebrate.

Around 500 miles away, a man in Cleveland, Tennessee, was mowing his yard when he noticed balloons stuck in his fence. They were attached to an envelope that contained the business the balloons came from and the name of Kason’s school. He used that information to send hand-made gifts created in his wood shop to Kason and his teacher, as well as $100.

The man, whose name is Todd Huyler, sent a photo of him and his Dachshund Henry, as well as a note addressed to Kason’s parents. In it, he wrote that mowing his yard is his quiet time when he reflects on the past week and how he can bless people that God puts in his path. That’s when he said he saw the balloons and was surprised when he opened the envelope.

“Truly a message in a bottle,” Huyler wrote in the letter he sent to Kason’s parents. “The simple gesture of a family showing love and appreciation to their 2nd grader with a gift of surprise humbly impacted me beyond belief. How amazingly fortunate Kason is to have a family that will make the effort to show unselfish love.”

  8. Cocaine shipments seized by Hungarian police. (orfk.hu)

Entire Article @ ReMIX: “Hungarian police wrapped up the country’s biggest ever series of drug raids resulting in the arrest of 109 people and seizure of 600 million forints (€1.47 million) of various drugs, National Police Headquarters announced at a press conference on Thursday.

“Nearly 2,000 law enforcement officers and uniformed personnel across the country took part in a coordinated operation involving drug crime rings, seizing 600 million forints worth of drugs and dismantling criminal gangs,” the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) reported at a joint press conference with the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV), the National Investigation Office of the Intervention Police (KR NNI), and the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK).

Drugs seized at the Budapest Liszt Ferenc airport.

As detailed in a statement by the ORFK, plainclothes detectives gathered evidence necessary to dismantle the criminal gangs thanks to their prolonged surveillance activities. As a result of the raids, 298 people were questioned as suspects in 226 cases, 109 of whom were arrested and 91 of whom were ordered to be detained by the court.

The raids resulted in the seizure of 435 hectares of cannabis plants, 65 kilograms of marijuana plants, 10 kilograms of amphetamine-type substances, two kilograms of cocaine, two kilograms of herbal, three kilograms of cathinone derivatives, and more than 11 kilos of ketamine, with a total black market value of almost 600 million forints, the police said.

Investigators also found small amounts of anabolic steroids, recreational drugs, and sex-enhancing drugs. The coordinated raids resulted in the seizure of around 140 million forints in cash, tens of millions of forints worth of cars, jewelry, other property, a large amount of firearms and gas guns, as well as a pill crusher and a grinder.

As part of the operation, NAV staff, who constantly monitor the airport’s goods traffic and examine mail and packages — found more than 10 kilograms of drugs at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport that had been shipped from the Netherlands.”

  10. [NF: These people desperately need an editor!]

    Entire Article @ floridianpress:

“Former President Donald Trump has just taken another political jab at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with a video he released on his Truth Social, where the President agrees with Megan Kelly’s assertion that DeSantis can’t beat Trump in 2024.

During an interview with David Rubin, the former Fox News anchor said that she believes Trump clears the field if he runs. “I just don’t think anybody else could win if Trump runs,” said Kelly. When Rubin asked her if she didn’t think DeSantis was “crafty enough” to take on Trump on a debate stage, Kelly stated, “No. I don’t even think that a little. I think Trump sucks up all the energy in each room. No matter what.”

Kelly continued,” And even someone as skilled as a politician and smart policy-wise as DeSantis can’t overcome that. He can’t.” Kelly then questioned, “You really think a hardcore MAGA is going to abandon Trump for DeSantis?” In addition, Kelly said that Trump’s supporters like DeSantis, but they feel DeSantis needs to wait his turn because he owes Trump his political career,

“The hardcore Trump faithful is unshakeable. They like DeSantis, but they would never cross Trump for him. And they think DeSantis owes his political career to Trump,” added Kelly. If forced to choose, they will choose Trump. DeSantis can’t take him down…He won’t win over Trump.”

Earlier in the week, Trump announced that he was holding a rally for Senator Marco Rubio in Miami next week. Gov. DeSantis was not invited to the event, and Trump has not offered to do a rally to help the popular governor win re-election. There is clear tension between Trump and DeSantis.

DeSantis is rumored to be considering a presidential run in 2024 regardless if Trump runs. Sens. Rubio and Ted Cruz stated that if Trump runs, they would most like not. “If he runs, he would instantly clear the field,” said Sen. Rubio.

There is a lot of truth to what Kelly said. All the recent public opinion polls taken of Republican and Conservative-minded voters still show Trump with overwhelming support among the base of the Republican Party. DeSantis is a distant second place, but continues to creep up in the polls after all but single-handily taken on the Progressive Democratic Party and the “Legacy Media” since taking office since Trump left office in 2020.

The Floridian recently reported that the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) put out a email that appears to divide the Republican Party by pitting DeSantis against Trump in a potential 2020 Presidential primary contest.

The NRCC has never sent an email like this, so could the establishment Republicans in Washington siding against Trump before the 2022 midterm elections?”

  12. Entire Article @ based-politics:

“The U.S. Department of Energy illegally gave China $15 million in taxpayer-funded, groundbreaking technology for a powerful rechargeable battery used for grid energy storage. It took six years and more than $15 million from taxpayers to develop a vanadium redox flow battery that scientists thought could power a house and could be charged and recharged for up to 30 years, according to an investigation by NPR and the Northwest News Network.

But the DOE gave the technology to the Chinese in 2017 as part of a sublicence, and in 2021 as part of a license transfer. UniEnergy Technologies’ engineers were building off work that a team of scientists had done in a government lab in Washington State in 2006, costing $15 million. But the company was forced to shutter, and the batteries are now manufactured by a company in Dalian, China.

Another company, Forever Energy, had been trying unsuccessfully to get a license to manufacture the batteries, being put off by the DOE for more than a year, NPR reported. “The federal agency allowed the technology and jobs to move overseas, violating its own licensing rules while failing to intervene on behalf of U.S. workers in multiple instances,” NPR reported.

The DOE didn’t explain why it allowed this to happen and is doing an internal review of vanadium battery technology licensing and whether that license has violated American manufacturing requirements.

Now, U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), and Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) have demanded answers from DOE Inspector General Teri Donaldson, who has agreed to conduct a full investigation into the matter. While the DOE says it ended the contract after NPR asked questions about the Chinese license, the lawmakers want assurance that it never happens again.

  13. “Polling Exists To Make Astrology Look Good — The credibility of America’s polling industry in 2022 is less than zero”
    Emerald Robinson

Three days ago, the American polling and news aggregation site Real Clear Politics launched a “polling accountability initiative” with a new pollster ranking system.

This was a significant admission by Real Clear Politics that the polling industry is largely a farce. After all: Real Clear Politics has simply aggregated various polls into a polling average for the last twenty years. What could possibly be the problem with that model? What could go wrong with a polling average? And the answer is obvious: the vast majority of polls are so biased (in favor of Democrats) that the sheer number of these fake polls manage to discredit even polling averages.

As the old adage goes: “garbage in, garbage out.” Real Clear Politics has admitted as much in their “polling accountability initiative” press release: “the public opinion survey industry has undergone momentous changes and faced a series of challenges in a profoundly altered political landscape.”

    Here’s the key paragraph:

‘There have been many news stories over the last several months questioning whether polling is broken in the United States. While there are certainly challenges in the polling industry, it is not entirely accurate to suggest polling is broken. There are many quality pollsters and media outlets that are doing excellent work in a constantly changing technological and political environment. However, there are also pollsters and news organizations that are doing less-than-stellar work and, unfortunately, many of the polls from these organizations receive a disproportionate amount of attention.’

I don’t know anyone who shares the rosy view of the Real Clear Politics crowd that “many quality pollsters and media outlets are doing excellent work.” Indeed, if such a statement was credible, then why the need for a “polling accountability initiative” at all? The truth is that the polling industry’s credibility is so tarnished that Politico ran an article recently on how Democrat pollsters know that nobody trusts them anymore.

There’s only a handful of credible polling firms: Rasmussen and Trafalgar immediately come to mind. The industry is riddled with frauds like Frank Luntz and Obama fanboys like Nate Silver. There are only a few industry critics like Big Data Poll’s Richard Baris who care to explain how the polls are rigged, and how public opinion is manipulated.

The field he’s talking about is the polling field. It’s not a field that’s unbelievably dishonest in favor of Republicans — it’s a field that’s unbelievably dishonest in favor of Democrats. (Here’s my full Absolute Truth interview with Richard Baris if you’re interested.) According to him, the polling industry is totally corrupt because: “98% of pollsters are left-wing.”

How about the supposedly “nonpartisan” Cook Political Report for example? Baris explains that “Cook” is just another front group for the Democrat Party.

The purpose of the American polling industry is not to publish accurate public opinion about political races — it’s to oversample Democrats and undersample Republicans in political races. That’s why the polls showed Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump by 12 points in 2016 — and Andrew Gillum leading Ron DeSantis by 14 points in 2018 — and “a blue wave” of Democrat victories that never materialized in 2020.

That’s why fourth-rate colleges conduct garbage polls just before the elections: Monmouth, Franklin & Marshall, The University of Nevada at Reno, Quinnipiac, Emerson, Siena.

The point of this garbage poll, for example, is to claim a 22 point lead for Josh Shapiro (D) against Doug Mastriano (R). What’s the point of claiming such an absurd lead? Polls with absurd leads for Democrat candidates are meant to do one thing: suppress the Republican vote.

You might say: that’s the point of the entire polling industry in America.

There’s a vast number of important political questions in America today that never get asked by polling firms. Questions like: How many Americans think Joe Biden is a pedophile? How many people think the FBI is the greatest danger to our democracy? Do you think it’s safe to require every child in America to get an untested and experimental COVID vaccine? These questions will never be asked by our polling firms — because they are essentially paid to avoid asking them.

The American public needs accurate polling on the most pressing political matters of our day — and everybody knows that we don’t have that polling. Somebody needs to shake things up.”

“John Kerry set to quit as climate czar post. Is he running for president?”
    By Monica Showalter

John Kerry, who’s Joe Biden’s “climate czar,” is getting ready to de-report for doody.

According to Axios: “Special climate envoy John Kerry is actively considering leaving the Biden administration after next month’s COP27 summit, soliciting advice from friends and colleagues on how to stay involved in climate efforts from the private sector, according to people familiar with the matter. Why it matters: President Biden has relied on Kerry, a former secretary of state, long-time senator and the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, to corral more multilateral buy-in for emissions cuts and keep climate on the radar despite economic headwinds and the Russia crisis.”

Which is weird stuff. After all, as climate czar, doesn’t Lurch have it made?

He gallivants around the world leaving a humongous carbon trail on a private jet intoning to rapt audiences about the airware greenie agenda, in what’s effectively a job that’s all perks, no work. Since global warming is fake, but rich greenies refuse to read the science, that makes it a job where no performance is required, let alone results. No need to make the world a greener place by the numbers, all he has to do is jet around with that carbon trail, and tuck into the lobster, the chateaubrand, the Chivas Regal, the foie gras, and whatever else the fancy nations of the world are serving to him, along with the girls, girls, girls, as he drones and intones. As Dire Straits put it, “that ain’t woikin.’ Thass the way you do it, get your money for nothing and your chicks for free…”

So one wonders what the deal is with the Democrat party’s chief gigolo, suddenly deciding to leave his perk-filled perch? Well, it may be that with Europe freezing in winter, and lunatics over there desecrating great works of art, things may be changing on the global warming popularity front. Maybe the rapt audiences won’t be so big now, what with that big carbon footprint Kerry hauls around with him.

Note that the U.K.’s new prime minister, Rishi Sunak, has decided to pull out of the global warming hog wallow for the elites, known as COP27, to be held in Egypt this year, even though the U.K. was its host last year, a fact that speaks very well for him and the public mood in that part of the world. Sunak explained that he had actual work to do.

Kerry, who’s not a man to miss the buffet, of course, is going. So what could be the deal, why is he leaving when the going is so good as it is, even without the U.K. prime minister to pose with photos of for his library? Well, writer Mickey Kaus had a pretty good guess:

The midterms are approaching. The Democrats are in for a shellacking. The Democrats are getting ready to point fingers, and more importantly, get rid of Joe Biden, if by no other way than by preventing him from running again.

What better than for John Kerry to make another run for president? He’s got the money. He’s got the mojo, having lived on a diet of flattery for the past two years. He’s got a Democrat brand name. He’s seeing his opportunities, and he’s positioning himself for a move, the Democrat lineup pretty bereft and clownish Hillary Clinton even moving to the fore and he must be saying to himself that he will save this for his party — he will be to report for doody again in the aftermath of Joe Biden.

    What could go wrong?”

“While Eating Breakfast Thursday, Fetterman Suddenly Answers 3rd Debate Question From Tuesday”

BRADDOCK, PA — According to sources, Senate candidate John Fetterman was eating a quiet breakfast this morning when he suddenly blurted out the rest of the answer to question 3 of the debate from two nights ago.

“I support fracking. Yes, I support… it. I believe it’s a… clean form… of energy… to use. Vital to… our energy independence. Fracking. Fracking.” yelled Fetterman in between bites of Reese’s Puffs. “Two years ago… I had a… different position, but now I don’t… and I — Hey! Where’d everybody go? How’d I get here?”

Fetterman then started hyperventilating as his aides and nurses tried to calm him down.

“See?” said Mrs. Fetterman. “I knew he had it in him. Shame on the reporters who said John was having issues with his answers. And shame on that Dasha Burns from NBC, who said my husband was not well. Now excuse me, I have to change his diaper.”

Other critics of Fetterman rushed to slam the delayed answer. “Does he even know where he is?” said Texas Senator Ted Cruz. “There are 1950’s computers that process faster than this. What’s he going to answer next, the riddle of the Sphinx?” A democratic Senator who wishes to remain anonymous pushed back on Cruz’s statement. “It is ableist to criticize someone who has had a stroke,” said AOC. “It is also sexist since Fetterman is married to a woman. And racist because the woman is Brazilian. And particularly rude because the woman is hot.”

Locals in Pennsylvania are being urged to put aside their ableist and bigoted tendencies and vote for Fetterman regardless of whether he’s capable of doing the job. Journalists reached out to Fetterman for a response, which they anticipate getting next month.”

Elon To Replace 3,200 Twitter Employees With One Hardworking Immigrant Named Amar

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Only hours after officially taking over Twitter, Elon Musk has taken action on firing underperforming employees. After reviewing the metrics on individual employee productivity, Musk abruptly fired 3,200 Twitter team members and replaced them with Amar.

“Amar is a hardworking immigrant from India who can easily do the work of 3,200 Silicon Valley millennials,” said Musk. “Once we filtered out all the breaks for meditation, wine-on-tap, matcha sipping, shuffleboard, and corn-hole, we discovered that these employees could all be replaced with Amar, who will outperform all 3,200 of these employees by at least 9%.”

Amar’s resume includes a steady stream of success at several call centers in Mumbai, and since his start date on Monday, he has already outworked 2,973 of the employees in weekly productivity. Sources say he works 18 hours per day, sleeps at the office, and takes baths in the bathroom sink, all of which he says are much better working conditions than where he came from.

At publishing time, Twitter employees had announced they all found jobs working for the DNC in Washington, D.C.

“In Major Blow To Ableism, Airline Hires Blind Pilot”

MIRAMAR, FL — Spirit Airlines has hammered yet another nail into the coffin of ableism by hiring the world’s first blind commercial airline pilot. Flight 2047 from Orlando to Saint Louis is set to be the first vision-impaired flight. The co-pilot will reportedly wear a blindfold for the duration of the flight out of solidarity with its blind captain.

According to sources, Isaac “Fuselage” Bartimaeus dreamed of being a pilot ever since someone described to him what planes look like. The rookie pilot, who has been blind since birth, earned a pilot’s license after spending two years studying theoretical flight. Due to his condition, he was not permitted to fly a plane as part of his schooling. Spirit Airlines waived the requisite 1,500 hours of flight time as a way of accommodating his disability.

“It’s 2022! We need to set aside our differences by understanding we are not different. I learned from Ratatouille that anyone can cook so it makes sense that anyone can fly,” said Spirit Airlines CEO Denver Estrada. “We also hope this publicity will help people understand that we are a real airline with real airplanes you can ride in.”

Reporters were briefly permitted on the plane to witness history as Captain Bartimaeus introduced himself to the passengers.

“This is your captain speaking. I’d like to welcome you all aboard. I am excited to fly you all into the sky,” said Captain Bartimaeus. “Where we’re going, we won’t need eyes to see,” he added, referencing his favorite film, Event Horizon.

At publishing time, Flight 2047 had crashed into Mount Elbert in Colorado.”

“10 Things You Can Do To Make Sure Our Elections Are Secure”

It can be hard to bother voting, especially when every election that hasn’t gone your way has been rigged. But don’t give up; you can do plenty to keep our elections safe and fair. Check out these sweet life hacks to a secure election:

    1. Hire Kyle Rittenhouse to stand outside your polling place: He’ll protect your polling location from Antifa thugs.

    2. Set up life-sized cardboard cutouts of Dinesh D’Souza to scare away mules: His face haunts the dreams of many a ballot mule.

    3. Outlaw mail-in ballots and only accept votes cast through TRUTH Social comments: TRUTH Social is where the TRUE patriots hang out.

    4. Vote multiple times to make sure they’re paying attention: If you can cheat the election, so can anyone! You better vote 30,000 times just to be on the safe side.

    5. Put ballots under Mjölnir so only the worthy can vote: Why were the unworthy allowed to vote in the first place?

    6. Upload your consciousness to a computer system so you can oversee every vote made by every human: Unfortunately, as a transhuman entity, you will lose all voting rights. And your machine heart will no longer understand the meaning of love.

    7. Monitor all cemeteries to make sure the dead don’t vote: Keep an eye on pet cemeteries, too. Hamsters have been known to change election outcomes.

    8. Invite lots of plumbers to the polls to look out for burst pipes: Every burst pipe is good for about 380,000 fraudulent votes.

    9. Hang a sign in each poll booth that says ‘God is watching’: Works every time.

    10. Live in a red state: Apparently, they have it figured out there.

Enjoy a safe election season, everyone! Don’t forget to bring a crossbow in case you run into undead voters!”

“Coming out about the abuse she suffered came at a cost. While her boyfriend and best friend at the time were supportive, Ayala’s family was not. She said, “My family was very angry with me for reporting because they felt like I could have easily not said anything — he was about to move out.”

Once the abuser exited her life, Ayala attained a newfound freedom for which she is incredibly grateful. But she also credits her unborn baby, who she named Rachel, “for inspiring and helping me think, you know, maybe this rape isn’t the rest of my life.”

‘Children Like Mine Don’t Deserve to Be Erased’ — Ayala believes her story is important. “I have the exact experience that many people will use to justify abortion, which is, you know, an underage girl who got pregnant from rape, who is in an unsafe living situation,” she said. She says her story has empowered women with similar experiences, some of whom “have reached out and thanked me for my voice when I speak out about how [abortion advocates] don’t speak for all rape survivors, they don’t speak for the women who get pregnant from rape and love our children.”

“Our children,” she believes, “are not responsible for the crimes of their fathers and are completely innocent, unique human beings from the moment of conception. They’re deserving of the right to life just like anyone else. I just want to be able to tell people that I loved my baby,” she said. “I mourn her loss every day of my life. Children like mine don’t deserve to be erased because of the way they were conceived or because they seem inconvenient to the rest of society.”

‘Innocence’ — Ayala’s advocacy has undoubtedly been shaped and informed by her experiences. If there is anything that captures the essence of her story, however, it would be the name of the child she lost. In Hebrew, Rachel means “female sheep.” It also means “innocence.” Gifting her child this name was an intentional act of affirmation.

“Rachel, my innocent light,” Ayala said, “is worthy of a name testifying to how she was perfect, holy, and blameless.” She will never be forgotten.”

  20. EXCERPTS: [NF: First off – a known mental case and why, exactly, was it legal for him to own a firearm???]

“The family of the St. Louis high school mass shooter asked police for help removing the AR-15-style assault rifle from him nine days before the rampage — but it somehow ended up back in his hands, police said. On Oct. 15, police responded to a domestic disturbance call at 19-year-old Orlando Harris’ home, where his mother found the weapon and wanted it removed, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Officers determined Harris was legally permitted to have the gun, but transferred it to a third party so it would not remain on the premises, officials said late Wednesday.”

“While it is not yet clear when or how the suspect came to be in possession of the firearm after this incident, we can confirm that the firearm involved in this incident is the firearm used in the shooting Monday,” police Sgt. Charles Wall said in a statement.
    —————
Harris left a manifesto-like note in his car before storming Central Visual and Performing Arts High School with the rifle and at least 600 rounds of ammo Monday, killing physical education teacher Jean Kuczka, 61, and 15-year-old student Alexandria Bell. Seven others were wounded in the bloodbath.

Sack also told reporters that Harris had been seeing mental health professionals and that his family had him committed several times.
    —————
Whenever the family “noticed him, kind of, stepping out of line … they always worked to try and get him back on his medication, back into therapy, whatever it is that he needed,” he said. “Sometimes that’s not enough. Mental health is a difficult thing. It’s hard to tell when someone is violent and going to act out,” Sack said. “I’ve got to give credit to the family — they made every effort that they felt they reasonably could. That’s why the mother is so heartbroken over the families that paid for his episode,” he said.

The school building was locked Monday morning and an unarmed security guard saw Harris trying to get in. Sack has declined to say how the gunman forced his way inside. Officers, some of whom were off duty, arrived four minutes after the 911 call, police said. Eight minutes later, they located Harris on the third floor, barricaded in a classroom. Police said that when Harris shot at officers, they shot back and broke through the door. When Harris pointed his rifle at the cops, they fired several shots, killing him.”

  21. Lowland Streaked Tenrec: Found in Madagascar, Africa, this small tenrec is the only mammal known to use stridulation for generating sound – something that’s usually associated with snakes and insects.

Sunda Colugo: Sunda Colugo or Sunda flying lemur is a species of colugo, native to Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. It is not, in fact, a lemur and it does not fly, gliding instead. Sunda Colugo is active at night and feeds on soft plant parts like young leaves, shoots, flowers, and fruits.

Honduran White Bat: The Honduran white bat has distinctive white fur, with tips of individual hairs being gray as well as a leaf-shaped nose. They live in leaf ‘tents’ that they ‘build’ by cutting the side veins extending out from the midrib of large leaves.

Lilac-Breasted Roller: Widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula, the lilac-breasted roller is a colorful bird that likes perching in hight trees and other vantage points where it can spot prey at ground level. Their bright plumage is unmistakable with deep lilac breast feathers.

Golden Tortoise Beetle: Native to the Americas, the golden tortoise beetle is a species of beetle that varies in color from reddish-brown with black spots through gold, and often metallic, earning it the nickname “goldbug”. It tends to switch color in different conditions, such as during mating, and during times of disturbance, such as when it is touched by a researcher.

EXCERPT: “All velvet ants belong to the family Mutillidae and have a dense pile of hair of a variety of striking colors that serve as a warning signal to potential predators. They can be found worldwide, but in Nebraska, the most common velvet ant is the cow killer ant, Dasymutilla occidentalis. They are commonly found during the summer months wandering around the yard in urban landscapes and open areas like pastures.
        —————-
Defenses: The female cow killer, though grounded, has many defenses. Besides bright warning colors and squeaking warning sound, they are quick movers, have a very strong exoskeleton and can release smelly odors. In addition, females are capable of delivering a very painful sting. Females have a large stinger which is a modified egg-laying organ called the ovipositor. On the Schmidt’s sting pain index which ranks and describes insects based on one scientists evaluation of stinging insects, it is ranked 3 out of 4 (4 is most painful). Therefore, they can inflict an excruciating sting if handled or stepped on, which is why they are called cow killers. As far as we know, no cow has ever died from a sting. The sting may be painful, but the venom is not very toxic.

Despite their massive defenses, velvet ants are not aggressive. If you see velvet ants around your home, no need to worry. Just leave them alone. No control measures are necessary and they are not an indoor pest.”

  24. “Etna’s River of Fire”. Luciano Gaudenzio / Wildlife Photographer of the Year

“From a great gash on the southern flank of Mount Etna, lava flows within a huge lava tunnel, re-emerging further down the slope as an incandescent red river, veiled in volcanic gases. To witness the scene, Luciano and his colleagues had trekked for several hours up the north side of the volcano, through stinking steam and over ash-covered chaotic rocky masses — the residues of past eruptions. A wall of heat marked the limit of their approach. Luciano describes the show that lay before him as hypnotic, the vent resembling ‘an open wound on the rough and wrinkled skin of a huge dinosaur’.

It was 2017, and he had been on the nearby island of Stromboli to photograph eruptions there when he heard news of the new vent on what is Europe’s largest volcano. He took the very next ferry, hoping he would arrive in time to see the peak of the latest show. Mount Etna, which lies on the boundary between the African and Eurasian continental plates, has been erupting continuously for almost 30 years, with shows that include lava flows and lava fountains — just the most recent phase in 15,000 years of volcanic activity, but a warning of its power.

What Luciano most wanted to capture was the drama of the lava river flowing into the horizon. The only way to do that was to wait until just after sunset — ‘the blue hour’ — when contrasting shadows would cover the side of the volcano and, with a long exposure, he could set the incandescent flow against the blue gaseous mist to capture ‘the perfect moment.’”
