Color My World

Autumnal leaves in vibrant hues are a beautiful part of the season, but those leaves are also a vital part of keeping trees alive.

Trees that have leaves that change color in fall are deciduous. (Evergreen trees with needles, which stay green to continue the photosynthesis process through the winter, are coniferous.) Deciduous trees usually have large, broad leaves.

Most of the year, these leaves are green because of the chlorophyll they use to absorb energy from sunlight during photosynthesis. The leaves convert the energy into sugars to feed the tree.

As the season changes, temperatures drop and days get shorter. Trees get less direct sunlight, and the chlorophyll in the leaves breaks down.

The lack of chlorophyll reveals yellow and orange pigments that were already in the leaves but masked during the warmer months. Darker red leaves are the result of a chemical change: Sugars that can get trapped in the leaves produce new pigments (called anthocyanins) that weren’t part of the leaf in the growing season. Some trees, like oaks and dogwoods, are likely to produce red leaves.

How much and how fast leaves transform varies by location on the globe. The best colors are produced when the weather is dry, sunny and cool. Places that are cloudy, damp or warm won’t see the same degree of changing color.

Then, of course, the leaves fall. Trees start building a protective seal between leaves and their branches as the weather turns. They take in as many nutrients as possible from the leaves, but leaves wouldn’t survive the winter and would make trees vulnerable to damage if they remained. When the leaves are cut off from the fluid in the branches, they separate and drop to the ground.

In the fall, trees put on a pretty impressive fashion show. Leaves that were green all summer long start to turn bright red, orange, and yellow. But where do these colors come from?

Leaves are green in the spring and summer because that’s when they are making lots of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is important because it helps plants make energy from sunlight—a process called photosynthesis.

The summer sunlight triggers the leaves to keep making more chlorophyll. But trees are very sensitive to changes in their environment.

As summer fades into fall, the days start getting shorter and there is less sunlight. This is a signal for the leaf to prepare for winter and to stop making chlorophyll. Once this happens, the green color starts to fade and the reds, oranges, and yellows become visible.

    1. Morning, Pat! My favorite is spring, always – I prefer seeing things coming to life rather than going to sleep for the winter. Altho the cooler temps are sure nice! We’ve got one more day of possibly up to 95, then the temp plummets, in the high 60’s/low 70’s and down into the 40’s at night. I may end up not mowing again at all!

  2. more proof the left ruins everything they touch…NARA puts warnings on the Founders’ documents…
    entire article
The National Archives Records Administration placed a “harmful content” warning on the Constitution, labeling the governing document of the United States as “harmful or difficult to view.” The warning applies to all documents across the Archives’ cataloged website, including the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.

“NARA’s records span the history of the United States, and it is our charge to preserve and make available these historical records,” the administration said in a statement. “As a result, some of the materials presented here may reflect outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent views and opinions. In addition, some of the materials may relate to violent or graphic events and are preserved for their historical significance.”

The NARA, which is responsible for preserving and protecting documentation of American heritage, noted that so-called harmful historical documents could “reflect racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes; be discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more,” and “include graphic content of historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more.”

Along with committing to diversity and equity, the NARA said it would “[work] in conjunction with diverse communities, [and] seek to balance the preservation of this history with sensitivity to how these materials are presented to and perceived by users.”

This isn’t the first time the National Archives has catered to a leftist view of history. In June, the National Archives’ racism task force claimed that the Archives’ rotunda, which houses founding documents, is an example of “structural racism.” The task force also pushed to include trigger warnings around displays of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, which are all in the rotunda.

The warning is a blanket statement atop all documents in the archived catalogs that links to a “Statement on Potentially Harmful Content.”

JUST IN: DOJ has proposed a rough process for the special master review of the seized Mar-a-Lago documents. It would rely on a “Relativity” platform operated by an outside vendor to permit access to both parties and help speed the review.

    storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
It’s a not too dissimilar process for how evidence is shared with defendants in the Jan. 6 investigations. The government contracted out a massive database project to Deloitte, which built a Relativity database.

The government wants Trump’s lawyers and any vendors to sign a protective order to impose strict limits on sharing any documents reviewed as part of the special master process. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco… Image
And DOJ is strongly encouraging Dearie to consult with NARA as he attempts to make judgments about presidential records. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco… Image
All of this is about the 11,000 documents *without* classified markings. If the appeals court rejects DOJ effort to stay Cannon’s order with respect to the 100 records with classified markings, DOJ says it will propose a separate procedure for those.

  4. good article on American Thinker. the buy now-pay later mentality of the left
    entire article
The Biden administration, along with many in the media, have been feeding the public the fiction that the economy is strong, and families are thriving despite the massive inflation they have caused.

It has been obvious for a long time, with credit card debt rising, savings rates declining, and more than 50% living paycheck-to-paycheck, that there are significant problems — and now we see that people are borrowing for daily expenses, including food:

‘Buy now, pay later’ services, which allow consumers to pay for goods in installments, often without interest, have become increasingly common for food purchases

Josh Roberts didn’t think twice about taking out a loan to pay for groceries. It was early in the pandemic, and he was making $16.50 an hour working for a technology company in Cincinnati while supporting his sister and her girlfriend.

‘We were just not making enough to live,’ he said.

So he started buying groceries online using a virtual credit card from Klarna, a ‘buy now, pay later’ service that allowed him to break payments into smaller installments that could be made over several weeks, with no interest.

As the Democrats and their media cohorts continue to push a false narrative, it becomes clearer and clearer this is all a façade — there is an intentional goal, and that is economic destruction.

The government has operated on a buy now, pay later system forever. That is how we find ourselves $30 trillion in debt, which continues to run up as a truly nauseating rate.

Here are the only three facts people need to see that prove this is all a fraud and a scam:

We constantly hear that the proposed entitlement and other spending programs are paid for, yet with record taxation, we are still in incomprehensible debt.

The Democrats continually lied to get Obamacare passed — the first lie being that it would substantially lower costs, and the second that it would reduce the deficit. One of the fictional pieces of this bill was that if the government took over student loans, it would bring in revenue. The government not only didn’t make money, they continue to lose money. (And that was before the vote-buying scheme known as “loan forgiveness” which is expected to cost more than $200 billion.)

When Obamacare was short of funds, Obama didn’t go to Congress for an additional appropriation. He just stole it from elsewhere, and there was no accountability regarding his abuse of power.

Student loans were always a buy now, pay later program. As colleges jacked up their prices faster than inflation, the government just kept throwing more of our money at it. Now, we are told students don’t have to pay the money back. Of course, exploitative and predatory practices on behalf of colleges aren’t the problem either.

Politicians have promised government workers generous pensions and benefits based on end-of-career salaries. These have always been buy now, pay later programs, which are massive unfunded liabilities that will be paid for by future generations.

Biden’s open border policies are buy now, pay later schemes. I have not seen him go to Congress to ask that his program to fly illegal aliens around the country be funded legally.

In the falsely named “Inflation Reduction Act” we are paying for 87,000 new IRS agents and pretending to pay for them later with additional taxes collected.

The only policies I have seen that have been paid for are the tax rate cuts of Reagan, Bush, and Trump, that not only paid for themselves but brought in substantial revenue. Of course, the media and other Democrats lie and say these policies cost the government lots of money. Facts haven’t mattered for a long time.

Summary: The Democrats are full of hot air, and the media will run cover for them.

They pretend to be responsible fiscal stewards, and any mishaps were “unexpected.” In reality, they’re waging economic war against the American people.

As for me, I proudly want to make America great again. I want capitalist policies that lift all boats, I want energy independence, and I want to welcome immigrants who come here legally to be treated well and do well. For that, I’m the extremist who wants to destroy democracy.

          1. Who Owns the Federal Reserve Banks?
On Dec. 23, 1913, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act.

The Federal Reserve Banks are not a part of the federal government, but they exist because of an act of Congress. Their purpose is to serve the public. So is the Fed private or public?

The answer is both. While the Board of Governors is an independent government agency, the Federal Reserve Banks are set up like private corporations. Member banks hold stock in the Federal Reserve Banks and earn dividends. Holding this stock does not carry with it the control and financial interest given to holders of common stock in for-profit organizations. The stock may not be sold or pledged as collateral for loans. Member banks also elect six of the nine members of each Bank’s board of directors.

and i could have it all wrong…but they are not based on the gold system…there’s nothing backing their assets…but their say so…

Here’s what I do understand, tho – we, The People, are nothing but assets for this Federal behemoth! It is possible to revoke one’s Federal citizenship and revert to being strictly a State citizen but it is a VERY long and UBER complicated process. I printed the instructions a number of years ago – they are probably 40+ pages long!!!

That was back in 2014/2015 so……but I recall there were somewhere from 12-15 different federal forms that had to be submitted. Like I said, VERY complicated and intricate process.

“‘Cooking The Books’: Jim Jordan Unveils FBI ‘Domestic Extremism’ Whistleblower Allegations On Tucker Carlson,” Posted On September 19, 2022

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that a whistleblower in the FBI had provided information showing that the agency was deprioritizing child trafficking cases to focus more resources on domestic extremism.

“They are juicing the numbers and cooking the books.,” Jordan told Carlson, alleging that FBI agents were working to open more investigations into domestic violent extremism in order to make the threat appear larger than it really was. “They are so focused on this they are willing to pull agency [resources] from child trafficking cases to foster this narrative.”

      WATCH:

      https://rumble.com/v1kqwmv-jim-jordan-details-whistleblower-allegations-to-tucker-carlson.html

In a letter posted on Twitter by the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee, Jordan said whistleblowers had detailed how the FBI had multiple field offices across the country open cases related to the riot at the Capitol, rather than running them through the FBI’s Washington Field Office, allegedly deviating from FBI procedure. Whistleblowers said they were told cases involving “child sexual abuse” no longer had priority, the letter said, and instead prioritize investigations into “domestic violent extremism.”

“Previous whistleblowers who came to us and said that they were pressured to label cases as domestic violence extremism,” Jordan told Carlson. “This whistleblower came forward and talked to us about how they’re cooking the books making the numbers seem like there are cases across the country, but they are all related to January 6th. And now what’s happened, today we learned this newest whistleblower has been suspended from his job.”

Jordan referenced Biden’s Sept. 1 speech in Philadelphia, where he labeled Trump’s supporters as a “threat to democracy” after accusing Republicans of embracing “semi-fascism” during an Aug. 25 Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Maryland.

“Nothing should be off the table when it comes to reining in a political Justice Department, which everyone knows is now the case,” Jordan said, adding that President Joe Biden signed legislation that would add 87,000 Internal Revenue Service agents.

The FBI did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.”

    1. I don’t agree with his premise. In my opinion, we are witnessing the destruction of Europe, or rather the EU because it has become too competitive for the US, economically, and it has been and is in fact a creation of the US and a collection of ‘vassal’ states (of the US). The US is fighting to remain the Hegemon … Russia’s move into the Ukraine and the proxy war has revealed that humanity has a choice, it need not remain a slave to the Hegemon, which is itself a vassal … to the NeoCons/Cabal. One world gov’t is not “coming” – it has been here since WWII ended. It is ending and becoming a multipolar world of “sovereign” nations.

  8. EXCERPTS: “A Starbucks shareholder is suing the company’s top executives over a host of race-conscious policies that the lawsuit says violate civil rights law and, by exposing the company to costly litigation, threaten the value of its shares.

The policies—all of which are advertised on the coffee giant’s website—include $1.5 billion set aside for “diverse suppliers” and a compensation scheme that ties executive pay to “BIPOC representation” at the company, for which Starbucks has set numerical targets. The corporation also runs a “Leadership Accelerator Program” that is available only to minority employees, as well as a program that reserves 15 percent of Starbucks’s advertising budget for minority-owned media companies.

The lawsuit, filed on August 30 by the public interest law firm the American Civil Rights Project, will showcase a novel legal approach to challenging the race-conscious policies of publicly owned corporations. Typically, the plaintiffs in such cases are employees or job applicants who say the policies violated their civil rights. Here, however, the plaintiff is a conservative nonprofit, the National Center for Public Policy Research, that owns shares in Starbucks.

The group is arguing that the coffee giant’s programs endanger “Starbucks and the interests of all its shareholders”—which the company’s officers have a legal duty to protect—by inviting “nearly endless” civil rights litigation that could force Starbucks to pay out damages.

The lawsuit is part of a broader effort by shareholders to rein in corporate executives, who investors say are wantonly violating the law as they work to burnish their woke credentials. The National Center for Public Policy Research holds stock not just in Starbucks, but in JP Morgan and McDonald’s. Over the past year, it has threatened to sue executives at each company who’ve implemented race-conscious policies; the suit against Starbucks’s top brass marks the first time the nonprofit has made good on its threats.

Because the center is suing Starbucks’s executives in their personal capacity, any damages awarded will come out of the pockets of individual officers, not the company’s corporate coffers, a gambit designed to make other C-suites sweat.

The National Center for Public Policy Research is quite candid about its goals. “We want to scare people away from discriminating on the basis of race,” said Scott Shepard, an attorney with the group.
    ———————–
While some of these companies have been hit with traditional civil rights lawsuits—Amazon and Pfizer, for example—many have not. Such lawsuits would likely succeed on the merits, attorneys told the Washington Free Beacon, but plaintiffs can be hard to find given that suing one’s employer is often a professional death sentence—particularly when the lawsuit alleges anti-white discrimination.

“Finding the legal violation is easy,” said Gail Heriot, a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the chair of the American Civil Rights Project. “What’s hard is finding people to stick their neck out to say ‘I’m harmed.’”

Heriot’s firm believes that shareholder lawsuits—and the highly publicized threat of them—can sidestep that problem. Groups of stockholders like the National Center for Public Policy Research are “not susceptible to the kind of pressure campaign that any individual is,” said Dan Morenoff, the executive director of the American Civil Rights Project, making them good candidates for plaintiffs in reverse discrimination cases.
    ———————–
Working with the American Civil Rights Project, other investors are now issuing their own threats—some of which have been successful. Last year, the firm sent open letters to Lowe’s and Coca-Cola on behalf of shareholders, threatening to sue the companies’ executives if they didn’t retract their race-conscious policies. Both eventually backtracked: In February, Coca-Cola told shareholders that it had dropped racial staffing requirements for law firms doing work with the company, and in August, Lowe’s quietly dropped a promotional program that was only open to minority-owned businesses.”

    FTA
Former President Donald Trump’s legal team has rejected a request to disclose details about his claims of having declassified the documents seized by the FBI from his Mar-a-Lago residence in the upcoming proceedings.

In a court filing (pdf) on Sept. 19, Trump’s legal team told Judge Raymond Dearie—a Brooklyn-based senior judge serving as an independent arbiter to review the documents—that making such a disclosure was not a requirement of District Court Judge Aileen Cannon’s order when appointing Dearie as special master and could disadvantage the plaintiff.

“[T]he Special Master process will have forced the Plaintiff to fully and specifically disclose a defense to the merits of any subsequent indictment without such a requirement being evident in the District Court’s order,” the court filing says.

Trump’s legal team made the statement in reference to a “draft case management plan” that Dearie circulated among the two parties ahead of the Mar-a-Lago review. Dearie will hold a “preliminary conference” for the parties at his Brooklyn courthouse at 2 p.m. local time on Sept. 20.

The draft case management plan, according to the court filing, “requires that the Plaintiff disclose specific information regarding declassification to the Court and to the Government.”

Trump’s attorneys argued that their client would do better to make the disclosure together with a motion seeking the recovery of property.

“We respectfully submit that the time and place for affidavits or declarations would be in connection with a Rule 41 motion that specifically alleges declassification as a component of its argument for return of property,” the court filing says.

The FBI raid on Aug. 8 ended with FBI agents seizing a total of 11,179 documents and other materials that weren’t marked classified, along with 103 documents marked classified, including some marked as top secret, according to an inventory released earlier this month.

Trump has publicly claimed that he had declassified the documents found at Mar-a-Lago that were marked as classified. Meanwhile, his lawyers said some of the documents fall under attorney-client privilege.

Trump’s lawyer also asked to revise Dearie’s draft plan of shortening the special master review period, contending that the proposed calendar “compresses the entirety of the inspection and labeling process to be completed by October 7, 2022.”

Cannon had ordered the review process to be completed by Nov. 30.

“[T]he Plaintiff has every interest in expeditiously moving forward on the document review, characterizations, and any ensuing litigation,” the court filing says. “With the Government’s help, in terms of access to the materials and clearance for Plaintiff’s attorneys, we believe the parties can meet the expected deadline of November 30.”

In a separate court filing (pdf) on Sept. 19, the Department of Justice (DOJ) proposed that the documents be uploaded to an online platform hosted by a “third-party vendor” so that Dearie could review the documents in an “efficient and timely fashion,” while allowing both Trump’s legal team and prosecutors to evaluate them at the same time.

“The government proposes that the document-review vendor ‘batch out’ documents on a rolling basis as they are scanned so that the Parties can begin reviewing them promptly,” DOJ said.

The DOJ also proposed that about 500 documents be reviewed each business day.

      1. well, technically if all the documents were in the scif, no problem…in a storage closet, though, would be.
and not the entire residence is a scif…just the protected room.

Have the Republicans filed impeachment charges over this yet?

    Biden wants us dead.

CBP reports there were 12 arrests of individuals on the FBI’s terror watchlist (TSDB) at the border in August, bringing the total for FY’22 to 78 so far. That is triple the previous 5 years combined. (26)

  13. I made what may well be my last round of watering today. 92 at the moment on the patio, without a whiff of a breeze! Stifling outside. But some of the plants are already showing a difference with the shorter daytime hours and I expect temps at night in the 40’s will finish most of them off. Once that happens……I need to spend an entire day cleaning up all the dead foliage and gathering the pots together to get ready for a supposedly snowy winter. We’ll see if that happens…..

  14. WILMINGTON, DE — Upon hearing that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is sending another group of migrants to his mansion in Delaware, President Joe Biden authorized a mobilization of 20,000 National Guard troops to defend his home from the invaders.

“This migrant invasion of my sacred personal 10,000 square-foot mansion is a cruel and evil threat to democracy itself and I will not allow it,” said Biden in a statement. “Everyone knows that migrants belong in one of three places: a tent on the street, a military base, or the voting booth. Come on, man! Blurgflebbit!”

Biden also confirmed that construction of a state-of-the-art anti-immigrant wall around his property has been completed, but that he still wants the National Guard there just in case. “That’s how many troops it took to defend the Capitol after my inauguration. My home deserves at least that many!” he said.

Dr. Jill Biden has reportedly asked to keep some of the migrants there, as the massive waterfront property requires a fresh batch of unpaid workers for upkeep. Sources close to the president confirmed the National Guard will remain posted outside the property with no food or shelter until the migrant threat has passed.

Sources also confirmed Hunter Biden was initially excited to receive the busload of immigrants until he was told they had already been checked for drugs.

MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MA. — Critics of Governor Ron DeSantis are outraged at yet another death that has allegedly occurred thanks to his political exploits. U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tearfully recounted how the Florida governor yanked her from her Venezuelan home and human-trafficked her to Martha’s Vineyard, where she died.

Following her martyrdom, Ocasio-Cortez expressed hopes that Taylor Swift sing at her funeral.

After DeSantis recklessly shuttled .0001% of the nation’s illegal immigrants to a couple of posh, liberal towns, Democratic lawmakers vowed to investigate whether any laws were broken. After finding no laws broken, the lawmakers then proposed a bill specifically aimed at preventing the use of immigrants as political pawns, appropriately named The Inflation Even More Reduction Act.

“This wasn’t the first time I was human-trafficked and killed against my will,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez from the steps of the City Hall in Martha’s Vineyard, while soldiers escorted other Venezuelan immigrants out of the sanctuary city. “And so help me, if it means saving just one child from dying in one of Ron DeSantis’ human trafficking airplanes, it won’t be the last!”

Following the somber funeral service, the body of Ocasio-Cortez will be returned to her homeland where it will be fed to starving Venezuelans.

U.S. — President Joe Biden sat down for an interview last week with Scott Pelley of 60 Minutes, prompting an all-nighter by the show’s editor who was forced to sift through hours of the president’s racial epithets to produce a 25-minute segment for the long-running CBS show.

“Look, Jack, if you feel me,” said Biden in one cut clip. “If you ever need to jive you come front me. Okay, honkey?”

Senior Editor Randy Mooney admitted that he had to run a transcript of the interview through Urban Dictionary because he wasn’t familiar with some of the more obscure racial slurs.

“He kept referring to people by different colors, which was an easy catch, but then he also talked about how he thought it was weird that African Americans were taller than average but still 3/5 of a person,” said Mooney. “Honestly, if I wasn’t sure what his point was I just cut it because it was probably racist.”

The segment’s interviewer was shocked when he saw a rough cut of the interview. “Wow!” said Scott Pelley. “He only seems half as racist in person. Weird!”

According to sources, Biden’s handlers had agreed to the interview so he could read prepared talking points on topics such as inflation, the coronavirus pandemic, and foreign policy. However, CBS’ Scott Pelley reportedly asked unplanned questions like “How are you doing?” which prompted racial responses.

At publishing time, senior Editor Randy Mooney was promoted to executive producer for his excellent work on the broadcast.

  15. Under the Presidential Records Act, records received by the President and staff are “presidential records.”

    Including classified records.

Former Presidents have unfettered access to all their records.

Judge Cannon simply ordered those marked classified must get reviewed first.
    Unroll available on Thread Reader

    Here’s the order:

    storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
Special Master’s job is to divide 11,000 records into 4 buckets, with a recommendation to Judge Cannon:

    1. Personal (not privileged)

    2. Personal (privileged)

    3. Presidential (not privileged)

    4. Presidential (privileged)

Classification is irrelevant–other than prioritizing. ImageImage

Judge says he hopes he can resolve matter w/o seeing the classified if possible. Edelstein emphasizes that some on prosecution team don’t have the necessary clearances. Trusty: ‘It’s kind of astounding to hear the government say the president’s lawyers don’t have a need to know.’

so what happens??? both prosecutor and defense look at document–and decide what it is? what if they don’t agree? how can judge NOT look at documents???

    1. It’s not Constitutional … maybe 5% of Americans know that

It’s all about optics/narratives … 95% of Americas hear “Trump is REALLY bad, and the Party that would support him, nominate him … is BAD

  17. this makes more sense to me…the special master is supposed to separate the documents into 4 categories–not worry about classified or not–because they’re all marked classified, right?

Seems to me that Dearie is setting himself up to be hauled before Judge Cannon for ignoring her orders if he just goes by classified markings on documents and doesn’t separate them into the proper buckets, either Presidential Privileged, or Presidential Unprivileged. Former Presidents have unfettered access to all their records, including classified documents. Classification is irrelevant–other than prioritizing.

    1. I just watched Dershowitz on Spicer’s show on Newsmax – he said Dearie has a record of favoring the prosecution and favoring the government on national security issues so…..in his opinion, them selecting Dearie wasn’t a good move.
