LIFE Magazine called the story of Snowman, “The greatest “˜nags-to-riches’ story since Black Beauty.” But what makes Snowman’s story even more extraordinary is that it is true. It is one of the rare true stories of horses that has been able to captivate the imagination of millions of people. Only a few are able to successfully travel the road from “rags to riches.” It takes exceptional capability and luck. But the one who beats the odds “ the longest of long shots – the “unlikely” champion “ becomes a symbol of hope.
Snowman was a plow horse in Pennsylvania’s Amish country. In 1920, most of the 25 million horses and mules in America were used for farm work. By 1945, tractor power overtook horse power on American farms. By the 1950s, farm equipment manufacturers stopped building horse-drawn equipment, leaving horse farmers no choice but to eventually replace their equipment.
It was a cold snowy day in February 1956 when Snowman headed for the slaughterhouse at only eight years of age. On that same day, luck came into play when the 28-year old Harry de Leyer headed off from his riding stable in Long Island, New York, to the same horse auction in New Holland, Pennsylvania, looking for inexpensive lesson horses.
Arriving late, the auction had ended, and the only horses left were the ones that nobody wanted. Already loaded on a trailer en route to the “meat dealer,” De Leyer spotted the dirty, gray horse that he would later name Snowman and called out to bring the horse back down. On instinct alone, he bought him for $80.
Snowman was a lesson horse for a short time when Harry sold him to a neighbor for double the money. But, an unhappy Snowman kept coming home to Harry “ jumping the neighbor’s five-foot fences” time and time again. As luck would have it again for Snowman, the neighbor was only too happy to let Harry take him back, and Harry, now recognizing Snowman’s extraordinary talent, set Snowman on his path to become one of the most beloved show jumpers of all time.
Just two years later in 1958, Snowman was named the United States Equestrian Federation Horse of the Year (formerly called AHSA Horse of the Year), Professional Horseman’s Association champion and the champion of Madison Square Garden’s Diamond Jubilee. The following year, Snowman achieved the unimaginable returning to Madison Square Garden to be the first horse to win the Open Jumper Championship two years in a row.
The pair became media favorites ““ even appearing on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,” where Johnny climbed on Snowman’s back. Snowman retired from the show ring in 1962 and in 1974, passed away at home with Harry sitting close by his side. Snowman was inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame in 1992.

i was just wondering…like with a human, a boxer wouldn’t waste training time pole vaulting…and a runner wouldn’t necessarily do a lot of weight lifting…
so how do you know what training a horse needs?
am i being dumb?
LikeLiked by 1 person
If you’re being dumb, then I’m dumb, too, because I never got beyond the basics of training myself. Frankly, I don’t know anything about it and never have. But yes, it is exactly like human beings in that respect. As with Snowman, some horses just have a natural talent that they love doing; in any breeding program, the bloodlines are studied and examined with a magnifying glass to see what the traits are for that particular line. Each sport has it’s own particular bloodlines that almost always do well in that specific sport. Same with personality traits – as an example, the “get” of one particular stallion’s line might be unusually vicious or kickers or biters; some stallions’ “get” may be distance runners, while others aren’t.

The bloodlines are just the starting point – natural talent, socialization, training, etc., etc. all play a part.

Well, now….major shake-up in the NE GOP – The Patriot Delegates have taken charge!!!! I do not know any of the people involved, altho I’ve certainly heard of some – Lydia Brasch used to be my rep 5 or 6 years ago. I joined up at the Freedom Coalition but wasn’t actively following them.
Entire Article: “It was a contentious day at the Nebraska GOP Convention on Saturday, which saw a change in leadership for the state party, with the emergence of the unofficially termed Patriot Delegates taking control.
This marks the overturning of Governor Pete Ricketts stranglehold on the party in the state. Malia Shirley of the Nebraska Freedom Coalition told The Post Millennial that “the Ricketts machine lost control of the party” on Saturday.
In the days leading up to the convention, six delegates were informed that their credentials had been cancelled. Among those were Fanchon Blythe and Matt Innis of Lancaster County, which includes the capitol Lincoln in its territory. Innis promised to attend the convention anyway, and when he did, he was arrested. Blythe was threatened with arrest if she didn’t leave the premises, which she did.
Shirley told The Post Millennial that it was overwhelming support among the delegates that convention led to their being credentialed and seated, along with three others who consider themselves among the Patriot Delegation.
The Nebraska Freedom Coalition gave a play-by-play on Twitter.
As a result, Dan Welch was ousted as Chairman of the NEGOP, and replaced with Eric Underwood. The vote to remove Welch was 204 in favor v. 124 opposed, Shirley told The Post Millennial.
Multiple resignations followed among the establishment, pro-Ricketts camp, including 3rd congressional district chair John Orr, a relation of former Governor Kay Orr, and 2nd congressional district chair Nancy McCabe, a former secretary for Ricketts, who immediately jumped ship after Welch was removed. Lydia Brasch, Nebraska National Committee Chairwoman for the RNC, also resigned, according to Shirley.
The letter to Blyth read that the attendee’s “vocal support for recruiting a non-Republican candidate for Governor against the NEGOP’s 2022 gubernatorial nominee cause the Committee to decline to credential you.” The letter went on to urge the recipient to “support our Republican nominees as we enter the fall campaign.”
Blythe told The Post Millennial that what she actually did was express interest in learning more about a candidate for office, Dave Wright.
It was earlier on Saturday that Innis was arrested for trying to attend the convention. His credentials had been pulled because of his “vocal criticism of Governor Ricketts, the top Republican elected official in the state and leader of our party,” per a letter sent to him by the NEGOP. He had assured constituents and the party that he would attempt to attend.
When Innis, who ran in a GOP primary against Ben Sasse in 2020, attempted to enter the convention, he was prevented from doing so, and was arrested. Later, he was credentialed and seated at the convention, as was Blythe.”

EXCERPT: “Fast forward to summertime, and as Joe Biden continues to flounder and flail, Ron DeSantis’ star continues to rise in his state and among Republicans across the country. Along with that, speculation is also ramping up regarding DeSantis’ 2024 intentions, with Democrats and their media allies going with the assumption that he will throw his hat into the race after he (presumably) makes it through his 2022 gubernatorial reelection campaign unscathed.
That has The Usual Suspects absolutely terrified, especially considering the fact that at this point there is a lot of uncertainty as to whom the 2024 Democratic nominee will be: Joe Biden, who seems incapable of functioning without his handlers on standby, or Kamala Harris, who hasn’t been given an assignment yet that she hasn’t screwed up?
With that in mind, the Democrat/media industrial complex have decided on the new narrative about DeSantis. As Mike noted in April, he’s “worse than Trump,” to them, and that’s a message they think will have the effect of blunting his momentum and rising popularity with voters.
Here are some examples of this narrative being pushed:”

“I have a car. Millions of citizens do. I don’t use it to kill little old ladies, nor do I drive into IRS buildings or run over squirrels. Not even cats. Because of this noise pollution thing, I don’t even beep my horn much. I mean, I’m not exactly a criminal: I just have a car. I paid a lot of money for it and now it’s mine, reasonably mine. I’m a very rare guy who not only owns a car but also has things to do, and therefore, very little time. I pay taxes. I don’t run red lights. I even respect those speed limits that would have you turn off the engine and push the car. OK. Now I would like to know why you hate me.
Thanks to my car, I have a job, a paycheck, and a life, and I won’t be intimidated by the global left’s hatred for motorized freedom of movement. I understand the resentment. I guess that taking a car and going wherever you want to go, without prior municipal prescription, is liberalism so wild it would make von Mises shudder. I admit it. It’s terrible that any old idiot can own a car. But I do. And for the moment, there is nothing to be done about it. Because as long as I have it, I plan to use it. Even if progressives don’t understand it, my evil plan includes four-wheeled displacement across dozens of streets and cities.
It’s nothing new. The left has an incomprehensible phobia of traffic, especially if we take into account that one would think that movement is a progressive option. Nothing has made us progress more and more universally than the automobile, at least as far as distance is concerned. It is true that it pollutes, I suppose, but so do so many other things and that does not stop us from doing them. There may be nothing more polluting than a politician improvising.
What exactly does the left have against cars? They should explain it once and for all. And while they’re at it, they should attend rallies as if they were right-wingers, announcing that, as soon as they reach power, they will be taking concrete measures to screw people over. Drivers in particular. And without warning. Let them tell everybody: “We hate traffic, we hate drivers. And we’re going after them.” And let the militancy burst into a long ovation, followed by booing any who dare to get behind the wheel. In the middle of the rally, to set an example, some intermediate party official could put a hammer to the keys of his convertible.
One fine day they told us that gas is Satan’s invention, and not just because of its price, and that we should all buy diesel cars. Now that we have been working for years to be able to start paying for a piece of the bumper of a diesel vehicle, they insist that we now need a hybrid or electric car. And in the meantime, local councils compulsively print leaflets about the advantages of cycling to work. And once at work, we’re told to go naked because in Europe several parties are also against a dress code because apparently men in suits sweat a lot and “turn the air conditioning on so as not to take their jackets off.” “I’ve seen it with my own eyes,” said a horrified former communist mayoress of Madrid. I totally agree: it is unacceptable that there are guys who sweat. But I’m not sure that bicycles will improve work relations in offices without ventilation. That might cause a real contamination emergency.
And so we return to where we started. I have a car. And I use it to get around. I know it is reckless. But I am part of that legion of citizens who are forced to cross the city daily, against the clock, not for the pleasure of polluting, but for the need to get to work on time and, ultimately and with the WHO’s permission, to be able to put food on the table. You know, that disgusting bourgeois habit. It’s tragic but that’s how it is. We drive to live. Maybe the left doesn’t understand it, but we can’t all move around the world in private jets announcing the advent of the climate apocalypse. Someone has to go to work to pay their traffic fines, their sustainable driving permits, and their damn green taxes.”

Entire Article @ JustTheNews: (this does NOT excuse him in any way, IMO!!!)
“The parents of the alleged July 4 Chicago-area mass shooter reportedly assaulted each other and drank heavily during his childhood, newly released police reports show. Alleged shooter Robert Crimo III’s mother also confessed at one point to leaving her son in a hot car for nearly half an hour, pleading guilty to child endangerment in the 2002 incident.
The police reports show a chaotic and apparently violent family life for the alleged shooter, one which involved multiple visits by police for reported family violence. In at least two instances, police were called to the family’s Highland Park home after Denise Pesina allegedly struck her husband with a shoe and a screwdriver on two different occasions.
In total, police “were called to the family’s Highland Park home at least nine times between 2010 and 2014 for various domestic violence incidents,” the New York Post reports. Crimo III has allegedly confessed to the July 4 shooting in which eight people so far have died.”

EXCERPT: “The latest complaint comes from the livestock industry, which says it is just days away from an animal feed crisis if rail lines fail to get their act together, and quickly.
According to reports, many feed users in California and other southwestern states are having to pay $3 more than the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) price to secure grain shipments by truck as rail bottlenecks are not only not improving, but in some cases worsening.
AgWeb says that not only are feed users on the brink of running out of grain entirely, but there are also widespread concerns that, come autumn during harvest time, the situation will be exponentially worse.
Members of the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) say that the issues they now face really started ramping up late last winter and early spring. This prompted the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to hold a hearing about the matter, but so far nothing has improved.
The hope was that once summer arrived, the situation would resolve itself at least somewhat. Instead, the problem has worsened, including labor issues that are getting worse, not better.
“What I’m hearing from our members is fewer equipment issues and that the equipment and engines seem to be not breaking down, but the train times – the amount of time it’s taking to get the trains – and the reliability of receiving them is still quite a problem in quite a few areas of the country,” said Mike Seyfert, President and CEO of NGFA.”
———–
Just to be clear, these are not necessarily just small food providers who are unable to secure feed shipments due to being smaller players. Even large players like Foster Farms, the largest chicken producer in the western U.S., are having trouble.
According to reports, Foster Farms recently asked federal regulators to issue an emergency service calling on the Union Pacific (UP) railroad to prioritize corn shipments to feed its thousands of heads of dairy cattle and millions of chickens and turkeys.
“The point has been reached when millions of chickens will be killed and other livestock will suffer because of UP’s service failures,” the company wrote in its request to the STB this week.”

LOL – and I just got back in from weed eating in my front garden beds! I had to bungee the glider again because of the wind, and it blew the wheelbarrow over. Luckily, the pot didn’t get dumped – I just set it off to the side until the wind stops. Humid again today – up to 77 now – but that wind makes it bearable. I mowed and weed eated the front yard last night and need to do the back today.
A couple of experiments – one succeeded, one has yet to be seen. I went cheap this year on the coconut fiber liners for my hanging pots and because of that, they simply won’t hold any water even tho I added a layer of plastic. So I rummaged around and found 3 pots (2 brown, 1 black) that fit perfectly inside the hanging cages. I took the whole ball of wax – liner, plastic, dirt and plants – and stuffed them into the pots! Eureka! Now I don’t have to water those bastids every single day!!!
I had wondered before if the birds would eat watered-down grape jelly so I mixed some up with a small bit of hot water and put it into the red feeder the Orioles love. I tipped it to make sure the mixture was liquid enough to run out of the holes and that worked, so now I am waiting to see if the birds like it. Haven’t seen one bird on it since yesterday evening……my feeder/planter appears to have failed. The plant looks like it’s dead but didn’t come out when I tugged on it so……sigh…..back to the drawing board on that one!

Judicial Watch: January 6 Documents Show Park Police Expected Large Group to March on U.S. Capitol
https://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-january-6-documents-show-park-police-expected-large-group-to-march-on-us-capitol/
Excerpts:
These documents were received in response to a May 2021 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit that was filed after the U.S. Park Police failed to comply with a March 2021 FOIA request for records regarding the January 6 rally (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Department of the Interior (No. 1:21-cv-01302)).
On January 5, 2021, in an email with the subject line “BLM from Baltimore,” a Capitol Police official in the Intelligence and Interagence Coordination Division forwarded a tweet to colleagues that warned of “Pantifa/bLM Balt/DC branches are already bussing in people to disturb January 6th. Orders given to dress like ‘MAGA’ blend in cause trouble especially around cameras. At night arson has been ordered. All to be blamed on Trump supporters attending.” The police official notes “There are multiple replies to this comment that says BLM/Antif will wear MAGA hats backwards, wear camo, and attempt to blend in with MAGA crowd.”

There were two elderly people living in a Florida mobile home park. He was a widower and she a widow. They had known one another for a number of years.
One evening there was a community supper in the big activity center. The two were at the same table, across from one another. As the meal went on, he made a few admiring glances at her and finally gathered his courage to ask her, “Will you marry me?” After about six seconds of ‘careful consideration,’ she answered. “Yes. Yes, I will.”
The meal ended and, with a few more pleasant exchanges, they went to their respective places. The next morning, he was troubled. “Did she say ‘yes’ or did she say ‘no’?” He couldn’t remember. Try as he would, he just could not recall. Not even a faint memory. With trepidation, he went to the telephone and called her. First, he explained that he didn’t remember as well as he used to. Then he reviewed the lovely evening past.
As he gained a little more courage, he inquired, “When I asked if you would marry me, did you say ‘Yes’ or did you say ‘No’?”
He was delighted to hear her say, “Why, I said, ‘Yes, yes I will’ and I meant it with all my heart.” Then she continued, “I am so glad that you called because I couldn’t remember who had asked me.”

“Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast. Be pleasant; make sure he is in a good mood. For lunch make him a nutritious meal he can take to work. And for dinner, prepare an especially nice meal for him. Don’t burden him with chores, as this could further his stress. Don’t discuss your problems with him; it will only make his stress worse. Try to relax your husband in the evening by wearing lingerie and giving him plenty of back rubs. Encourage him to watch some type of team sporting event on television. And most importantly, make love with your husband several times a week and satisfy his every whim.
“If you can do this for the next 10 months to a year, I think your husband will regain his health completely.”

Good article! EXCERPTS: “Perhaps we need another word, because credentials are being discredited by the day. They have led us down a destructive path. This applies not only to epidemiologists but also economists and public health officials and nearly every other field of expertise, particularly that which tied its credibility to the government’s pandemic response, which has ended in calamity for the world.
Politicians (Boris and Biden among the latest) are going down in flames but that’s just the beginning. Just as Henry Kissinger predicted on April 3, 2020, an aggressive response could and would lead to a wholesale loss of legitimacy for everyone involved. His warnings – born of his experience in watching Vietnam lead to a similar disaster – were ignored. Instead we ended up with his worst-case scenario: “a world on fire.”
I’ve earlier described the split in American political life as one between Patricians and Plebeians, recalling the ancient designations. One group rules and the other follows. This is not so much about ideology as it is control. To put a fine point on it, those who are ruled are fed up. They once trusted. They believed. They let their betters – those with credentials – have a go at it. And look at the mess they made!
———————–
That’s it. People not only want control back over their lives. They also demand control over their government, the control promised to us hundreds of years ago when modern political systems were forged with the primacy of freedom as a first principle. This is something we can believe in.
Whatever it is that the World Economic Forum is promising does not look especially impressive by comparison to the normal freedoms we took for granted. Indeed, we let the experts have a go at it and they created a monstrous experience for billions of people the world over. This will not soon be forgotten.
The younger generation was especially touched. They were locked out of dorms. They couldn’t go bowling. They couldn’t get a haircut. They couldn’t go to the movies. They saw family businesses wrecked, siblings and parents demoralized, and even churches shuttered. When they finally were allowed to move about again, it was only by covering their faces. Then the shot mandates came, which turned out to introduce more risk than reward. When people finally started traveling again, prices had nearly doubled. It is increasingly obvious that locking down for a virus was really about pillaging the public on behalf of a powerful elite.
It’s an outrage. The experience has shaped an entire generation, having taken place at the time when such experiences form an outlook that lasts a lifetime. The impact extends across all class, gender, language, and ethnic lines.
Notice too that things are not going in the direction that the credentialed lockdowners had hoped. Their censorship is not working, nor their media control, nor their intimidation tactics. They have been discredited. We are looking for new ways to believe in something. Let’s just call it freedom. It’s not nearly as risky as putting our fate in the hands of the same gang that betrayed the multitudes in this last go around.”

so this black man issues death threats against Cruz and other republicans and they let him out on a recognizant bond? now he’s gone…who the hell is surprised???
FTA
Man accused of threatening to kill Ted Cruz and other GOP members is on the loose after court freed him on a personal recognizance bond on July 3.
Texas’ Harris County District Attorney’s Office said that Isaac Nformangum, 22, had failed to appear for a court hearing on Friday, which is why he is now considered a wanted fugitive and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
A Texas man accused of threatening to kill Ted Cruz and other GOP members, is on the loose after court freed him on a personal recognizance bond on July 3, Fox News has reported.
Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Isaac Nformangum after the 22-year-old Black man called Cruz’s office and allegedly made threatening remarks, according to a transcript of the message released by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and included in a criminal complaint.
At the beginning of the 26 June call, Nformangum addressed Cruz by his full name, Rafael Eduardo Cruz, and pointed the finger at Republicans allegedly for planning to take away the 22-year-old’s right to vote.
“Hello and good afternoon Senator Rafael. This is one of the many Afro-American constituents of whom you are representative of here in Texas, as you currently serve from the Senate. I have just read the, uh, Texas Republican Party’s platform for this current 2022 year, uh, wherein it is apparent that your many colleagues intend […] to have the voting right acts repealed and not reauthorized?” Nformangum allegedly said.
He then went further by warning that “every last one” of Cruz’s colleagues “to have signed off on that platform is to be found, and is to be found and killed, be it by a bullet to the face or by the smashing of a brick” in their skulls.
“It is a civic duty of every American citizen or resident to see to it that every last one of your colleagues is to be killed. Killed. Be it by finding you in a public space or by trailing you to your very, by your very public homes,” the 22-year-old added.
Prosecutors have, meanwhile, said that the phone number used to make the call was registered to a woman with the last name Nformangum. Investigators tracked an Instagram account belonging to Isaac Nformangum, which included a YouTube video with a recording of his voice, which allegedly matched the voice that left the threat.
“I believe the voice on the recording left on Senator Cruz’ voicemail is the same voice heard while watching the YouTube video on the Instagram account associated with” Isaac Nformangum,” a Harris County District Attorney’s Office investigator was cited by US media as saying.

After 18 months of nonstop publicity tour, Ofc Gonell leaves Capitol police force? Fanone already quit DC Metro to go to CNN. My guess is Ofc Harry Dunn is next.
Are they trying avoid much-needed scrutiny when GOP turns investigative tables on Jan 6?

Got my mowing done; thankfully, it stayed windy the whole time but, just as I was finishing up, the wind dropped almost completely and my pores said, “Oh, it’s time to start crying!” Yep, time to head inside! And I’m down to only one weed eater…..none of the batteries will charge for the big one that is too heavy for me anyway so I’ll just buy a 2nd battery for the smaller, more powerful one.

seems there is no time capsule beneath the guidestones…
FTA
The promise of a trove buried underneath the now-destroyed Georgia Guidestones appears to be a bust.
The mysterious structure unveiled in 1980 was demolished Wednesday after an explosion that caused extensive damage, but there was lingering intrigue about the possibility of a time capsule.
A slab on-site had two unfinished lines that said, “Placed six feet below this spot on …” that was “to be opened on,” leading to a search by county officials.
With the help of a tape measure, Elbert County Road Department officials used an excavator to dig 6 feet into the ground. However, officials said they did not find anything but dirt, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

another no bid contract awarded–$177 MILLION to a NY based company to provided shelter for unaccompanied illegal children. the site in NC includes an $18 million athletic center…nice huh? I want birth certificates to ensure every “CHILD” is under 18…otherwise we’re funing a young men’s club adn that’s what the YMCA is for.
entire article
The Biden administration secretly paid a for-profit company $177 million to house more than 1,000 migrant children in a Hebrew school in North Carolina, according to reports.
Government contract documents, obtained by the Washington Examiner, show the Department of Health and Human Services plans to hold up to 1,100 children and underage teenagers at the American Hebrew Academy in a residential neighborhood in Greensboro.
The use of no-bid contracts has drawn the ire of watchdogs over transparency and cost concerns.
“The main concern is that taxpayers’ money will be wasted on higher-than-necessary costs. Competing contracts is a proven method to identify qualified companies and get the best prices for the work sought,” Sean Moulton, a senior policy analyst at the Project on Government Oversight, wrote in an email.
“Contracts for large amounts should be competed for as much as possible because the potential savings to the taxpayer would be significant and well worth the extra work needed to oversee the bidding process,” they added.
As The Washington Examiner noted:
The deal — made behind closed doors with New York-based Deployed Resources rather than through the normal public solicitation process — is the latest of backdoor payouts that President Joe Biden’s administration has made in secret in its attempt to downplay its response to the worsening migration crisis at the southern border.
In this instance, the Department of the Interior submitted a justification notice on behalf of HHS, outlining why it awarded the massive contract without opening the process to others.
“Based on market research and a review of past contract actions, Deployed Resources has been identified as the best provider for this urgent and compelling requirement,” the DOI document obtained by the Washington Examiner stated.
Despite the government citing rising migrant crossings and a lack of infrastructure to respond to the situation, the Biden administration refuses to acknowledge the situation at the border as constituting a crisis.
In May, almost 240,000 people were encountered trying to cross the southern border without permission, more than any other month in U.S. history.
Children between 13 and 17 will be held at the Greensboro school for roughly one month before they are released to adults in the United States, most likely relatives, and family friends.
More children from the border will be flown to the Greensboro shelter and held until release, reports added.
The children are “unaccompanied,” meaning they came across the border without parents or guardians, often aided by cartels that charge their families thousands of dollars.
Deployed Resources signed the deal on May 26, and the $177 million is meant to cover operations for 12 months, though the school has been leased for five years.
Deployed Resources posted a hiring ad in May in an effort to bring on 800 workers to staff the facility by July when children were slated to begin arriving.
The 100-acre Hebrew school campus opened in 2001 to educate Jewish high school students. It ceased operations in 2019.
Its campus includes 16 dormitory buildings, 35 residential staff apartments, and an $18 million athletic center that features rock climbing walls, and basketball courts.
The federal agency will provide classroom education, mental and medical health services, case management, translation services, legal services, and recreational facilities.
Republican House members from North Carolina stated in a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra in June that they had not been made aware of the deal until now.

Up to 92 outside now….my Canna – all 3 – are showing signs of life and I already have some tiny cukes!!!! Tons more flowers, too! There are also a couple of volunteer cukes that came up in the east bed from last year. Hostas are getting buds on them, too, as are the tiger and oriental lilies. I still haven’t seen any birds on that grape/water combo yet but they have 3 other sources at the moment for jelly so….I’ll hold off on refilling them for a couple of days and see what happens. I do think I’m going to need another case of jelly before the summer is over, tho.
Wonder of wonders, my one peach tree that is still living actually has small peaches on it!!! I’ll be checking on those daily from now on!
