Cats vs Dogs: The Rebuttal

Dogs rule!

In the great debate of whether cats are better then dogs (they’re not!) both sides present compelling arguments about why their choice is better (like cats are less smelly–really?? ever smell cat pee on anything???)

my sentiments exactly!

I maintain that dogs are way better than cats! So let’s get right to it!

Dogs are interactive and keep you healthier by requiring walks.  And they love to play; whereas a cat will spend all day sleeping and then run around at night while YOU’RE trying to sleep.

Dogs are trainable and obedient; whereas cats are indifferent—unless you’re a red dot, they’re not interested.

High five!
Ever see a cat do this? didja?

Dogs are infinitely smarter than cats.  How do I KNOW this?  Dogs are used by the military in combat regions, by police to sniff out bombs and drugs, and by the medical communities as service companions and to sniff out certain cancers.  Cats?  Nope!

They are also helpers to man–and can be trained to herd other animals, can cats? Nope!

Dogs look at humans as the center of their universe! They are man’s best friend and will be fiercely protective!  Cats?  Can’t be bothered.

And dogs make you smile!

And finally…

“How To Wash A Cat”

1. Thoroughly clean the toilet.
2. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and have both lids lifted.
3. Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.
4. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape). CAUTION: Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for any purchase they can find.
5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a “power wash and rinse” which I have found to be quite effective.
6. Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.
7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.
8. The now-clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself.
Sincerely,
The DOG

  6. Alrighty then – challenge accepted! First, sensing illness:

EXCERPT: “According to Applied Animal Behaviour Science, the ability of cats to detect chemical changes in their environment plays a role in stress reduction. Cats feel secure around familiar scents and are intrigued by odors they don’t recognize.

When someone is ill, the smell of that person (or cat) changes due to hormonal fluctuations. A cat will be able to detect the different scents and recognize that something is off. Cats use this to detect illness in humans and other animals alike. Part of why cats rub against each other as a greeting is to determine each other’s health. In feral colonies, this is speculated to allow cats to avoid carriers of diseases.

Outside of using their olfactory senses, cats also use behavioral changes to tell when a person or animal is sick. That’s particularly relevant with human owners. Consider how closely cats observe the behaviors of their owners. With that in mind, they are likely to notice any psychological and behavioral changes caused by illness. This suggests that felines can tell when someone close to them is unwell, no matter the form that illness takes.”
    ———————
A defining characteristic of depression is that it saps a person’s energy, productivity, and social nature. It impacts their interactions with other people and even their own pets. If you’re struggling with depression, this will be reflected in how you interact with your cat. It will not go unnoticed. No matter how hard you try to mask how you feel, your real state of being will be apparent to your cat in your lack of enthusiasm and increased lethargy.

Most felines will respond to their owners’ depression by becoming more sympathetic. Unfortunately, this may cause them to mimic your behavior and become withdrawn and depressed. This is not ideal for your cat’s well-being since it may experience appetite loss and a weakened immune system.
    ———————-
Cats have an acute sense of smell. They can pick up on scents caused by chemical changes in the body. Mental illnesses tend to cause (or be caused by) hormonal imbalances. Your cat is likely to detect a different scent from you. Cats can detect pain in their owners perhaps better than any other affliction. Cats are highly attuned to the moods of their owners. They’re attentive to physical and psychological cues.

When an ailing person is approaching the end of life, the body will undergo several changes that are apparent to a cat. For instance, the hormonal and chemical changes in the body will be detected by a cat’s olfactory receptors. Cats that live in retirement homes and similar environments tend to be more familiar with the “scent of death.” As morbid as it may sound, cats do this because they understand what comes next. They’re simply trying to comfort their favored human.

Cats don’t have X-ray vision to see through physical objects. However, they can sense broken bones by observing their owners’ physical and behavioral changes. For example, you may have a cast applied on your arm and make facial expressions that signal pain. As a result, your cat may recognize that you’re suffering from an injury to your arm.

High blood pressure is usually characterized by an array of medical and behavioral symptoms that cats can recognize. Patients with hypertension are often erratic and irritable. This isn’t hard for a cat not to notice, especially if it has a close relationship with the individual.

There are accounts of cats sniffing out a body part where cancer was later found. According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, it’s been revealed that cancer might have a smell that cats can detect. Cancer increases organic compounds known as polyamines in the body. These chemical compounds have a pungent scent that cats can more easily recognize. Cats can likely sense brain tumors. Like other cancers, brain tumors usually increase the amount of polyamines, whose scent is possibly detected by cats’ olfactory receptors.

Although a cat will not understand the concept of a heart attack, it may recognize early signs of an impending heart attack. This will be based on an individual’s physical and psychological symptoms. Shortness of breath, for instance, is likely to capture a cat’s attention. Likewise, alterations in body temperature when experiencing a heart attack will be easily detected by a cat. As highlighted, cats tend to be attuned to the facial expressions of their owners. This means they can pick up on a possible heart attack by observing the patient’s facial cues. A contorted facial expression or grimace would signal a cat that the individual is experiencing pain.

Like cancer, diabetes is characterized by a distinct, sickly-sweet smell due to excessive glucose. This is found not only in one’s urine but also in the person’s sweat. Cats don’t find this aroma appealing and may be perturbed by it. You will notice this in your cat’s behavior.

Hypoglycemia refers to a condition whereby one’s body sugar (glucose) levels are lower than normal. It’s usually characterized by symptoms such as:

    Sweating
    Lethargy
    Increased heart rate
    Body tremors

Cats are quite adept at picking up on such symptoms of illness through scent and physiological changes. This means your cat will likely recognize that you are ailing if you manifest symptoms of hypoglycemia.

Cats are sympathetic towards their owners’ pain and will often express their concern by becoming clingy. Remember, cats can form affectionate bonds with their owners. As such, a cat will be more attentive towards its owner when the latter is struggling with illness. Nevertheless, cats’ excessive empathy towards their ailing owners often causes them to mimic their behavior and mood. If you’re feeling withdrawn and lethargic due to illness, your cat might start behaving similarly.”

Yes, cat pee stinks but, then, so does dog and horse pee! And shall we talk about pigs??!!?? Not to mention humans!

    1. yes, but cats are not reliable in being trained to do any of those things…if they were, they would be employed in those positions. they are not. you are equating what a long term relationship (your pet) MAY allow a cat to do. while dogs can be trained to so on a regular basis with patients that are unknown to them. and dogs frequently travel to hospitals so they can boost patients’ morales…cats are too unpredictable to take to those places.
as for the pee…dogs and horse pee outside…cats pee inside…

          1. Good morning! Nipply here this morning – it just now turned 60! Got some chances of rain coming up the next few days, so I’ll be mowing come this week-end.

I spent at least 2 fricking hours trying to MacGuyver a sugar ant-trap for my Hummer feeder. Sheesh! Great idea but I don’t have the needed items; I tried, tho, and failed. Sigh……I need 2 cans of alternating size (one inside the other) and some caulk…..danged ants!!!!

            1. we’re expecting a lot of rain today…we’ll see.
we never had a problem with ants in the feeder–but then ours are hanging.
maybe you should do an instructional open about making one

              1. Mine are hanging ones, too – I’m talking about the nectar feeders. They are teensy-tiny ants called “sugar ants,” as well as regular ants. I’ve coated the stake with vaseline numerous times but, since it’s in the sun all day, it just melts and it doesn’t stop them. Here’s the thing: I’ve got a special Oriole nectar feeder that has an ant-moat on the top – just keep it filled with water. But the Orioles won’t drink from it! Danged birds!!!!

  7. As for K-9 animals……a tiger will do!!! I mean, it IS a cat, after all!!!

EXCERPT: “MANCHESTER, CT- You’ve heard of K-9 officers. But this new addition announced by the Manchester, Connecticut police department is a bit… different. MPD announced that effective Wednesday morning, they’re welcoming a new addition to the agency – and it’s a cat. A big, big cat. “Saber” has been in training with K9 Handler Officer Rob Johnson, also known as “Rojo”, for about six months.
    ———————–
Manchester Police received the grant in early 2019 from the Department of Justice, which covered the $3,000 cost of acquiring the animal along with an additional $47,000 to train and house the animal. The annual food costs – in excess of $10,000 – were covered through a generous four-year donation by Law Enforcement Today, the largest law enforcement news network in America. “I thought our National Spokesman Kyle Reyes eats a lot” said Captain Robert Greenberg, the founder of Law Enforcement Today who has been active in law enforcement for more than 30 years. “I mean, really – you should see the bill he racks up when we go out to eat. But he’s got nothing on Saber.”
    ———————–
Is she dangerous? Well, that depends – are you a good guy or a bad guy? “She’s a big pussycat,” said Officer Johnson. “She loves to cuddle – we actually had to get a California King size bed because she’s constantly climbing into it. The key is in not letting her get hangry.” That “hanger” is actually a secret weapon.

“The zoologists and the Department of Justice Field Training Manual actually suggested depriving her of meat for six hours before a drug raid,” said Officer Johnson. “Hartford’s SWAT team brought Saber in and made the mistake of depriving her for seven hours – the end result wasn’t pretty.” After the raid, Saber was tested for drug exposure but came back with a clean bill of health. “Her growl is definitely not worse than her bite,” said Lt. Shea.

“She’s going to make a welcome addition to the family at the Manchester Police Department, where we have a zero-tolerance policy for drugs and criminals in our area.” As far as what the future holds for her handler?

“What can I say? There’s a new Tiger King in town, and it’s Officer ‘Rojo Exotic’ Johnson.”

  8. Now then….this silliness about eating their owners….

EXCERPTS: “Carolyn Rando, Ph.D., is a forensic anthropologist at the UCL Institute of Archaeology and CASE Academy. One of her favorite topics of research is animal scavengers. So, naturally, we asked her questions about pets eating their owners. And what she revealed about their eating habits was morbidly fascinating. Here’s what we learned: Your dog just might try to eat you while you’re passed out and drunk.

“When you die, the animal often becomes distressed and may attempt to ‘wake you up’; they will lick and nip at the face. Once they’ve licked enough, they may draw blood; this could trigger an instinctive behaviour, resulting in more wounding and eventually consumption of human tissue,” she said. But in some cases, dogs will eat you because they’re just really hungry.
    ———————-
“Here’s one that involves both a dog and cat,” she said. Rando referenced a case that was described in a 2010 study in the Journal of Forensic and Legal Medicine. In the case, a woman was found dead in her bathroom by her husband. She died of an aneurysm, but her nose and lips were missing.

“Quite interestingly, and a bit contrary to what people might think: All of the injuries found on the woman were caused by her dog; the cats had no part in it,” she said. Like the other unusual cases that lacked a “waiting period,” the dog had “preyed upon” the victim only a few hours after her death.

“As for why the cat didn’t go in for a nibble, well, that’s anyone’s guess. But if I had to go out on a limb, I’d say either the cats couldn’t be bothered or hadn’t noticed yet,” she said.”
    ———————–
And hamsters are the worst of all. They might make their new dream home out of your decomposing body!!!!

  9. Cats rescue their owners, too!!!

Entire Article: “Don’t get picky about the pussycats that cross your path — one could end up saving your life.

Luna the black feline went from house cat to hero on Tuesday, saving all eight members of the Chappell-Root family from a fierce house fire. According to Fox 46, who first reported the story, Luna was persistent about waking up Emily Chappell-Root early Tuesday morning, and with good reason.

“She was insistent, you’re getting up. I got up and walked out the bedroom door and got a few steps down the hallway and realized there were flames licking around the door frame into the kitchen,” said the mother-of-six from Chester, South Carolina. After quickly realizing her family’s life was danger, Chappell-Root woke up her children, who range in age from 7 months to 10 years old, and led them outside to safety. Without Luna’s pawing and foot-biting the mom believes her family may have never gotten out of the house.

“If she didn’t wake me up we may not have all gotten out. I am really really blessed to have her and that everyone got out,” Chappell-Root, who was initially hesitant about adopting Luna, said.

The Chappell-Root house is now a charred remnant of what it once was, with the fire claiming almost all of the family’s personal possessions. But in the face of this destruction, the family just feels grateful that everyone, Luna included, got out unscathed. As a reward for her brave pestering, Luna can look forward to a long life of fine dining.

“She will be on wet food for life. Wherever we go has to be a home that will let her go with us,” said Chappell-Root. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Chappell-Root family to help them rebuild. You can help support this effort here.”

      1. Speaking of fires….horses are notoriously hard-headed about that. They’ll turn around and run BACK into a burning building because their stall is the most comfortable place to them. Then again, turn them lose in a tornado and 9 times out of 10, they will survive.

It boils down to this: All animals have their own unique benefits and draw-backs. And I love ’em all! Well, not squirrels…😛🙃😜🤐😫😒

  11. Emerald Robinson – NF: She sure does always seem to only look at the negatives, without offering solutions or any of the positives that really are out there. That is disappointing, IMO.

“When did the GOP cease to be a functioning party? When was the exact moment that you knew the GOP establishment stands for nothing and stands against nothing?

This week brought yet another example of the GOP’s complete ideological collapse. The Senate just passed an unconstitutional “red flag” gun control bill last night with the help of 14 GOP senators — and they did so while Democrat activists were still illegally harassing Supreme Court Justices at their private homes. They did so one week after a Democrat activist tried to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his private residence. They did so while the GOP’s chief pansy Mitch McConnell was still complaining that Democrats refused to pass legislation for extra security to protect Supreme Court justices! What greater signal could the GOP establishment send that it has no interest in defending the lives of its own judges — let alone its own voters?

Texas Senator John Cornyn was the lead GOP negotiator on this gun control bill, and he pushed the legislation against the wishes of his own party and his own constituents — as he discovered at the Texas GOP convention last week.

Senator Cornyn pushed the bill anyway. He also dismissed the Texas GOP as “a mob” in private conversation — which is proof that Cornyn has become (for all intents and purposes) a Democrat.

The corrupt corporate media hailed the gun control bill as a “bipartisan” effort, and that’s exactly what Republicans passing Democrat legislation always call their capitulations. Cornyn was joined in his treachery by the GOP’s usual gang of losers: Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman, Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Bill Cassidy, Thom Tillis as well as more recent failures like Todd Young, Roy Blunt, Richard Burr, Shelley Moore-Capito, and Joni Ernst.

Ask yourself: why would 14 Republican senators sell out the Second Amendment rights of their own voters just before a widely-predicted “red wave” arrives this November? Why would the GOP establishment surrender to Democrats over the single most important issue for their own party right before a mid-term election that could put them back in control of the House and the Senate?

The answer is obvious: the GOP establishment has no interest in being the ruling party.

Think about it. The GOP establishment pushed for the Second Impeachment of Donald Trump even though Trump was no longer the President and the impeachment was illegal. Perhaps you still recall that moronic theater piece? The entire pointless exercise seemed to be designed by Mitch McConnell to enrage GOP voters.

Then the GOP establishment embraced the nomination of Merrick Garland as Biden’s Attorney General at the Department of Justice — and Garland repaid that faith by weaponizing the FBI to punish angry parents at school board meetings as “domestic terrorists.” That insane and unconstitutional police-state maneuver drew mostly yawns from the GOP’s spineless cowards.
    ——————-
So when people ask me if the GOP establishment has any plans to save them, or their business, or their freedoms, or their family from the neo-communist cultural revolution currently taking place in our country — what can I say?

I’m not in the business of lying to people. You would have to be out of your mind to still believe that the GOP establishment is fighting against the Biden regime — as America dissolves before your very eyes into a tyrannical state ruled by a corporate oligarchy. In point of fact, the GOP establishment is openly fighting alongside Democrats to maintain uni-party rule.

These people don’t think they’re our representatives — they’re our rulers.”

  12. NRA statement on the proposed gun control bill

The NRA will support legislation that improves school security, promotes mental health services, and helps reduce violent crime. However, we will oppose this gun control legislation, because it falls short at every level. It does little to truly address violent crime while opening the door to unnecessary burdens on the exercise of Second Amendment freedom by law-abiding gun owners.

This legislation can be abused to restrict lawful gun purchases, infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans, and use federal dollars to fund gun control measures being adopted by state and local politicians. This bill leaves too much discretion in the hands of government officials and also contains undefined and overbroad provisions – inviting interference with our constitutional freedoms.

Decisions by the Supreme Court of the United States in the Heller and McDonald cases make clear that the Second Amendment is an individual constitutional freedom. We will always fight for those freedoms – and the fundamental values we have defended for over 150 years.

    Gun Owners of America statement
Once again, so-called ‘conservative’ Senators are making clear they believe that the rights of American citizens can be compromised away. Let me be clear, they have NO AUTHORITY to compromise with our rights, and we will not tolerate legislators who are willing to turn gun owners into second-class citizens. GOA fully opposes this unconstitutional legislation and will continue to encourage our millions of members to make their voices heard to their elected officials on this bill.
