The debate of “cats vs. dogs” is an argument as old as time. Rarely will you find someone who likes both equally. Dog people are very passionate about their pups and cat people are very passionate about their felines. However, sometimes it feels like the cat people are a minority in a majorly dog-loving-world. And when things pop up like a 2017 study in the journal Society & Animals that shows human parents feel more empathy for puppies than they do for babies, it’s hard to say dogs haven’t won the cat vs. dog debate… But, have they?
Cats, as anyone who has one will tell you, are better than dogs in every conceivable way. They’re softer, sweeter, and smarter. They’re quieter and cleaner. They’re masters of both the art of lazy lounging and the one of skillful hunting (of rodents). Plus, once upon a time, we used to revere them as gods. And this all isn’t just one cat lover’s opinion—there’s science and data to back it up. Yes, you may have heard that dogs are man’s best friends, but here are all of the reasons why cats actually make for far better pals.
Owning a cat might make you more intelligent.
Next time someone asks you to defend why cats are better than dogs, lob this fun little fact at them: Cat people are smarter than dog people. According to 2017 research published in the Human-Animal Interaction Bulletin, self-identified cat lovers tended to have higher intelligence than dog lovers do. (We are less outgoing, though.)
They splash less.
As a team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University revealed in 2010, cats drink water far more efficiently than dogs do. When a cat takes a drink, its tongue doesn’t actually pierce the water’s surface; it forms a funnel that lifts water up for a splash-free drink, getting in four laps per second. A dog, on the other hand, will sloppily crash its tongue into the water bowl like a cannonball. It’s scientific proof that cats rule and dogs drool—literally.
They’re cheaper.
According to the Animal Humane Society, average adoption fees for kittens and cats start at $32 and can run as high as $270. For dogs and puppies, however, fees start at $115, but go all the way up to $660! Adopting a cat is just more cost-efficient.
They love humans more than food.
Over the years, cats have earned a bad rap for being cold and distant. “They only love you because you feed them,” dog owners often tell cat owners. There’s also the persistent rumor that—were you to die—a cat wouldn’t care at all, and would, in fact, eat your deceased remains to survive. But research indicates all of this thinking is just plain hooey. According to a 2017 study in Behavioural Processes, cats prefer human interaction to all other stimuli, including food, toys, and catnip. Can you say the same for dogs? We think not.
Their love is more meaningful than a dog’s.
Dogs, it often appears, love everyone. Cats, on the other hand, are more standoffish when meeting someone new. (Centuries of domesticity still can’t eliminate the innate caution of a stealthy predator, it seems.) When a dog showers you in affection, it may be nice, but you know that everyone else is getting the same treatment. When a cat warms up to you, though, you feel special and unique—like you’ve earned it. And, as we just learned from that Behavioural Processes study, no, it’s not just because of the food.
They take up less space.
On average, Pets WebMD says a domestic cat will usually weigh around 10 pounds. Dogs, of course, have more variables—there are hundreds of different breeds—but, the American Kennel Club clocks a medium-sized dogs, on average, at about 50 pounds. As far as who takes up more of your well-earned space, it’s not rocket science.
They live longer.
Need another big reason why cats are better than dogs? They live a lot longer. In fact, Pet WebMD says a domesticated cat, on average, will live anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Dogs, on the other hand? Depending on size, eight to 11.
They’re not as smelly as dogs.
If you want to conjure some instant revulsion, just think of the words “wet” and “dog.” You know exactly what odious scent I’m talking about, and you know just as well that few things offend the olfactory nerves as much as a the aroma of a damp dog. Cats don’t ever reek like that.
They sleep a lot.
Fact: Animals are at their cutest when sound asleep. And cats sleep anywhere from 12 to 16 hours per day, which means you have more than half of your waking hours to snap some serious aww-inducing Instagram pics. And, frankly, we should take a note from this behavior because we could all stand to sleep a few hours more each day.
They’re expert hunters.
Before you judge a cat’s sleeping habits, know that these long hours are borne less out of laziness and more out of evolutionary coding. Cats are natural predators; unlike other mammals, who may have foraged for food, felines had to hunt, which meant spending large chunks of the day asleep, conserving energy to chase down their next meal. This is also why much of that 12-to-16-hour period is spent in a light doze. Before domesticity came into play, felines had to sleep lightly, in case prey—or a more dangerous predator—stepped on their turf. (That’s also why we call a “catnap” a catnap.)
Their centuries-long history of hunting has carried into the modern day. According to a 2013 study published in Biological Conservation, domesticated house cats are responsible for the deaths of 2.9 billion rodents and birds every year. This is all to say: Your cat is basically a terminator with fur, and we’d be overrun with rodents if not for their valiant effort regulate the vermin population.
They’re better for the environment.
You may assume all of this wanton death leaves a negative impact on the environment, but ecosystems are well-adjusted by now. In fact, it’s not cats but dogs that aren’t so great for the planet. According to research conducted by New Zealand researchers in 2009, dogs have about 2.1 times the environmental impact of an SUV. Talk about a serious carbon paw print!
You don’t have to walk them.
Whenever dogs need to relieve themselves, you have to take them outside. Yes, you can train them to need this only at certain hours of the day, but still, it’s a pain. Cats will just tend to a litter box on their own volition. A cat and its owner mostly stay out of each other’s bathroom business—and that’s truly one of the sweetest reasons why cats are better than dogs.
And some of them can even use a toilet!
It’s not just a Meet the Parents storyline. It’s a true story. You’ll have to start the training early, though—when they’re about three or four months old.
They clean themselves.
Cats don’t require regular grooming sessions like dogs do. The tongue of a cat is barbed in a way that removes dirt and grime from fur with startling efficiency. Cats literally lick themselves clean, another practical reason why they are better than dogs.
Once upon a time, they were gods.
As early as 3,000 B.C.E., felines were worshipped as deities. The Egyptian goddess Bastet—of war, protection, or the moon, depending on the dynasty—is among the first. Her sister in folklore, Sekhmet, the warrior goddess of healing or the hunt (again, depending on the dynasty), was thought to have blown Egypt into existence with her breath. Oh, and there’s also a little thing you maybe have heard of called The Sphinx.
But feline worship isn’t relegated to Ancient Egyptian culture. There’s also Dawon, the Hindu sacred tigress; Barong Ket, the Balinese “king of spirits;” and the entire pantheon of jaguar gods of the pre-Columbian Mayan era. In other words: Your cat may have descended from a deity. Whether you believe in that sort of thing or not, though, it can’t hurt to treat the little fella as such.

How the Voters Really Feel about Abortion
Dave in Fla [Guest Monkey]
With CBD on vacation, I was asked to fill in for him this week. It happens that I have some new polling information to share with you, so it was a timely request. My favorite pollster, Rich Baris, conducted a new national poll during May. I’m going to share some insights from it on Thursday, but with the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision being released this week, I thought it would be useful to understand what the voters actually think on the abortion issue.
First a word about the poll itself. It is a likely voter poll of over 2500. In polling terms, that is double the size needed for valid results in a national poll. Also, I have mentioned in the past, Baris uses an over sampling technique tied to consumer data to ensure he gets a representative sample from all key demographics. He has been extremely accurate in the past (most accurate in the VA Governor’s race for example), so I have high confidence that he is accurately measuring voter sentiment. [I am not including a link to the crosstabs of the poll, since those are provided to his Locals community only]
Consider the following results:
When you consider the top line question, “are you pro-choice or pro-life?”, the country will self-identify as barely pro-choice. This is where the Democrats stop the discussion, since they want to make the political claim that the voters are pro-choice, so don’t change the current status quo. While a solid super-majority of Republicans are pro-life (much to the chagrin of the GOPe), the over all numbers are driven by an equal super-majority of Democrats and a plurality of Independents who call themselves pro-choice.
Where things get very interesting is when you start looking at the approval/disapproval of specific practices.
Abortion after a heartbeat has been detected has almost majority opposition with the voters, with twice as many independents opposing as approving it.
Abortion after a baby can feel pain is strongly opposed by 60.6% of the voters. Even Democrats oppose the practice by a slight plurality.
Where abortion really loses support is in the 3rd trimester. 70.7% of the voters oppose this practice. Even a solid majority of DEMOCRATS (55.2%) oppose abortion up to the point of birth.
The final data point I want to highlight is how important Roe v Wade is as an election issue. Will it motivate the Democrat base to vote?
No, it will not.
While Democrats are twice as likely to consider abortion to be their primary issue for voting in November, still only 13.2% of Democrats identify it as their most important issue. That small percentage represents slight over 4% of the entire voting population. They might be vocal with their protests and terrorism, and the administration might want to pretend they are a mighty voting bloc, but they are a tiny sliver of the electorate.
If Roe v Wade is repealed this week, it will have no impact on the November elections. And as the public finally realizes what the repeal actually means, they will support the laws that are in place throughout many of the states.
The November elections are going to hinge on the economy, as you will see on Thursday

Praise the Lord–Michael got the job!!! At this point he’s supposed to start July 5 w/ most benefits beginning that day. His first paycheck is likely to be about a month from now…so we still need God’s financial provision in the meantime & to cover obligations for our son’s wedding in about 5 weeks–yikes!
It’s been a Very Long & convoluted journey but ultimately each step of the way was necessary (learning to wait on the Lord is an ongoing life lesson!): CDL-A, haz-mat, & tanker endorsements were all necessary to getting this specific job. There is a friend who works for this company that helped get M the info on the job but the processing still took quite some time.
He is to be driving a fuel truck on a relatively local route & refueling trucks for customers at their company locations, kind of like being a mobile gas/diesel station, it seems. There are regular reviews & raises (he hadn’t had a raise at his old job for like 7 years & the one that had been in process died when his boss died at his desk). The benefits are decent & the company is trying to get the efficiency to only work 4 10-12ish hour days per week.
He’ll start out working a later shift & there is the possibility of having to work some weekends. He Really wanted to keep his Sundays, in particular, free so that he could continue playing bass in church worship. The new boss sounds willing to work with him so that he might be free to play at least once a month, eventually.
There is a laid-back, hard-working, family friendly atmosphere in this family owned (for over a century) company. Ironically this place is about a mile from his trucking school & a couple from his church! According to his friend this company is very conservative friendly so he’s actually pretty excited to work in this more comfortable atmosphere.
Assuming he can jump through the necessary hoops sooner rather than later, like getting another drug test, we hope to head Up North Early for the 4th of July weekend so he/we can get some downtime & vacation before his nose goes to the grindstone in earnest. He’s been keeping busy with various household projects in the meantime: repairing tables, broken dishes, various outdoor projects (including installing another built-in natural gas grill our neighbor gave us before moving), & hopefully a new ceiling fan.
We are so blessed & thankful & still trusting the Lord to continue to provide for our ongoing needs, including in covering stuff for Josiah’s wedding.
Thank you so much for the many prayers on our behalf!!! Blessings to All ❤

From Emerald Robinson:
“It’s the summer of 2022 — and where are all those Durham indictments you were promised? And where’s that much-discussed Durham report? Do you know that you’ve been played for a fool yet — or are you still watching Fox News? Maybe you need another year to figure out the entire game. Maybe you still believe Bill Barr! Didn’t that legendary windbag tell us that the wheels of justice grind very slow but justice is coming?
Let’s turn back the clock two years — in case you forgot what AG Bagpipes promised the American public.
————————
Indictments are coming! People will know the names of these people! Criminal prosecutions! Not just a report! Notice that (then) AG Bill Barr promises justice for the Russia Hoax while at the very same time excluding Obama and Biden as subjects of the Durham investigation. That’s the moment that you should have known: the fix is in. The entire “tick tock” narrative that followed was brought to you (mostly) by Fox News and Bill Barr.
People ask me all the time how I knew — all the way back in the early months of 2020 — that the Durham investigation was a sham. (What do I mean by a sham —you ask? I mean a counterfeit of real justice — a ploy — a ruse to mislead the public.) It wasn’t because I had sources at the FBI or the DOJ. I correctly predicted the Durham investigation was a joke because the Huber investigation was a joke, and because the Hillary Clinton email investigation was a joke, and because the Huma Abedin laptop investigation was a joke, and because the Jeffrey Epstein investigation was a joke….
You get the idea. I correctly predicted that the federal government doesn’t really investigate itself in order to successfully prosecute Democrats. Call it Emerald’s Law.
The people who disagreed with me (publicly at the time) all worked at Fox News, or appeared on Fox News, or were guests on Fox News — and these people were all in the business of misleading their audience because the GOP establishment wanted its voters to be fooled. Bill Barr didn’t really want to arrest or prosecute Democrats — and certainly not in 2020. After all, the GOP establishment was busy collaborating with Democrats in 2020 to steal the November election from President Trump — or don’t you remember?”

“Did you really think that John Durham need two years to bring serious indictments against the Spygate plotters? Did you really fail to notice that his low-level indictments came just as the statue of limitations expired? Or that Durham brought minimal charges that were always going to bring minimal sentences?
That’s because John Durham was the cleaner.
Don’t tell me that you actually believed that one guy at the DOJ was going to investigate how the DOJ and the FBI and the CIA were trying to sabotage President Trump all by himself? All the majors players in Spygate walked away while Durham sent you on a wild goose chase hunting for commas in charging documents — and that wild goose chase was so successful in conservative media that you’re still talking about two low-level guys getting charged with process crimes four years after Durham supposedly started his investigation.
Durham kept you high on the hopium for four years. That was his real job. He actually made you think that Spygate plotters were going to be prosecuted during the Biden Administration — or the Third Obama Administration as it should properly be called. It’s almost as if you somehow forgot that Obama and Biden were the ones who met on January 5th, 2017 to conceal the Obama Administration’s illegal spying on the Trump campaign (since Trump was now President-Elect) and to formally launch the Russia Hoax.
So the joke is on you.”

Entire Article @ OAN: “Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture to celebrate Juneteenth. On Monday, she was greeted by cheers from a group of elementary school children who were visiting the museum.
The Vice President spoke about the importance of Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Her history lesson was met with criticism due to her claims that slavery lasted for 400 years in the US, despite historical records indicating that it actually lasted for less than 250 years.
“I think that we all know today is a day to celebrate the principle of freedom,” Harris stated. “And think about it in terms of the context of history, knowing that black people in America were not free for 400 years of slavery. “
The White House has since issued a responding, suggesting Harris was referring to the amount of time since slavery was first practiced in the country.”

Pollfish to survey 500 randomly selected people exclusively on the effects of the COVID vaccine.
The survey showed the following, Kirsch notes:
20% of the respondents reported they were vaccine injured
The 20% number is remarkable because there was no pre-screening question and only 77.3% of Americans received at least one dose. That means that if you were vaccinated there is a 26% chance that you were injured (computed as 20.46/77.3). Wow.
30% of the households have a vaccine injured person
45% of the extended families have a vaccine injured person
In 87% of the cases where there was a vaccine injury, there was either a doctor visit(s) or hospital stay(s) or both.
54% of the injured are still impacted today.
45% of the vaccine injured said it would shorten their lifespan
41% of the injured are unable to hold a job.
Only 17% said their injury was a minor annoyance.
The poll results indicate that “40M Americans over 18 are COVID vaccine injured, 20M seriously,” Kirsch warns. “This may explain why there are staffing shortages everywhere, from pilots to pharmacists.”

EXCERPT: “In a stunning development, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last week admitted — despite assurances to the contrary — the agency never analyzed the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) for safety signals for COVID-19 vaccines. The admission was revealed in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request submitted by Children’s Health Defense (CHD).
In September 2021, I published an article in The Defender in which I used the CDC’s published methodology to analyze VAERS for safety signals from COVID-19 vaccines. The signals were loud and clear, leading me to wonder “why is nobody listening?” Instead, I should have asked, “Is anybody even looking for them?”
After that article was published, I urged CHD’s legal team to submit a FOIA request to the CDC about its VAERS monitoring activities. Since CDC officials stated publicly that “COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring is the most robust in U.S. history,” I had assumed that at the very least, CDC officials were monitoring VAERS using the methods they described in a briefing document posted on the CDC website in January 2021 (and updated in February 2022, with minor changes).
I was wrong. The lynchpin of their safety monitoring was to mine VAERS data for safety signals by calculating what are known as proportional reporting ratios (PRR’s). This is a method of comparing the proportion of different types of adverse events reported for a new vaccine to the proportion of those events reported for an older, established vaccine. If the new vaccine shows a significantly higher reporting rate of a particular adverse event relative to the old one, it counts as a safety signal that should then trigger a more thorough investigation.
The briefing document states, “CDC will perform PRR data mining on a weekly basis or as needed.” And yet, in the agency’s response to the FOIA request, it wrote that “no PRRs were conducted by CDC. Furthermore, data mining is outside of the agency’s purview.”
The agency suggested contacting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which was supposed to perform a different type of data mining, according to the briefing document……CDC officials repeatedly claimed they have not seen safety signals in VAERS.”
For example, on April 27, 2021, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated the CDC did not see any signals related to heart inflammation. But a PRR calculation using the number of myo/pericarditis reports listed in the first table produced by the CDC obtained via the FOIA request reveals clear and unambiguous safety signals relative to the comparator vaccines mentioned in the briefing document (i.e., flu vaccines, FLUAD and Shingrix).
The calculation is dated April 2, 2021, almost four weeks before she made those remarks. In fact, among the 15 adverse events for adults included in that week’s tabulations, PRRs I calculated also show loud-and-clear safety signals for acute myocardial infarction, anaphylaxis, appendicitis, Bell’s palsy, coagulopathy, multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A), stroke and death.”

This is the second time Johnson has requested the records from Unissant Inc. Johnson’s office previously sent three letters to the DOD following allegations by DOD whistleblowers that the DMED showed significant increases in registered medical diagnoses in 2021 following the authorization of COVID-19 vaccines and implementation of the DOD’s vaccine mandate. The DMED is the military’s longstanding epidemiological database of service members.
Claiming the DMED data for 2016-2020 was incorrect, the DOD temporarily disabled the database — after whistleblowers came forward — then updated it with accurate figures, which resulted in less of an increase in medical conditions that potentially could be related to the vaccines. The DOD said the DMED system was taken offline to “identify and correct the root cause of the data corruption.”
Given what Johnson said was the DOD’s lack of transparency, the senator asked his staff to contact Unissant to discuss its “awareness of potential data problems in DMED.” Johnson, a ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, first sent a formal letter to Unissant on March 7, requesting records related to its management of the DMED.
Unissant responded by stating it was prohibited from answering Johnson’s questions or “providing any details about the work it performs for the Defense Health Agency.”

Court Orders EPA to Reassess Glyphosate’s Risk to Human Health, Environment
The U.S. Court of Appeals last week overturned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s decision that the pesticide glyphosate, used in Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller, is safe for humans and wildlife, and ordered the agency to reassess the chemical’s risks.
