In 1936, Chief (or Nip), the veteran fire dog of Brooklyn’s Engine Company No. 203, won four medals of honor for heroism from the following agencies:
- New York Women’s League for Animals
- Dog’s World International
- American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
- New York Anti-Vivisection Society
During his years of service with the engine company, Chief/Nip had demonstrated many acts of bravery and heroism. He rode with the company to every fire, and was always the first to leap off the fire engine and run into the burning buildings to scout for victims. Whenever he found a human in need of help, the brave fire dog would bark until the firemen responded.
I’m sure the fireman rewarded him with extra food or treats every time he saved someone, but Chief/Nip was never rewarded with medals for saving a human mother or child. He was awarded the medals for saving a cat. (And he didn’t even like cats.)
On November 10, 1936, a fire broke out in the basement of a four-story brick apartment building at 308 Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights. It quickly spread to the upper floors through a dumb-waiter shaft.
Ten people were in the building when Adela Gomez, 17, ran into the hallway on the second floor and screamed after smelling smoke. John Bermudez, 16, was with his mother, his 18-year-old sister Anna, his 12-year-old brother Joseph, and his sister-in-law and her baby in their top-floor apartment when they heard the commotion.
As the family started to descend the stairs, John noticed a cat running in the opposite direction toward the top floor. (Some reports say the cat was named Carlotta and belonged to John; other reports say the cat was named Fluffy and belonged to Mrs. Andrea Gomez on the second floor). John was determined to run after the cat and save it. John’s mother protested, but the “invincible” teenager darted upstairs as his family made their way safely to the street.
When the firemen of Engine Company No. 203 arrived on the scene, they found John unconscious on the stairway between the third and fourth floors. They took him to the street, where a rescue squad tried to revive him for nearly an hour without success (I’m not sure why they didn’t transport him to a hospital).
Soon after the firemen brought John out of the building, Chief/Nip emerged from the building, a little bit singed, with the cat in his jaws. The cat had lost a few of its nine lives, but somehow it was revived.
The rescue at 308 Hicks Street wasn’t the first time the company’s fire dog had saved a cat. Only a few months before, he had put his disdain for felines aside to do his duty and rescue a litter of five kittens from a burning store at Hicks and Union Streets.
Chief/Nip’s Life as a Fire Dog
Taken in as a stray one winter night in 1929, Chief/Nip served 10 years with Engine Company No. 203. During that time, he received numerous injuries from broken glass and falling debris, burns from scalding water, and bruises from falling off the fire engine. He also had some wonderful times, especially during the summer months when he got to live with one of the firemen in his home on Long Island.
Chief/Nip could recognize all the bells and signals, and he knew exactly which signal meant his company was responding to a call (he never made a mistake). On the fire scenes, Chief/Nip would superintend the firefighters and alert them if he knew something was wrong. If the hoses ever splashed his way, Chief/Nip would nestle under a fireman’s coat.
Chief/Nip Answers His Last Call
Although Chief/Nip was a 16-year-old senior citizen in 1939, he probably had a few more good years left as an active fire dog when his life was abruptly ended on November 9, 1939. While playing out in front of the firehouse, Chief/Nip was struck by a hit-and-run driver.
People in the street called out for help, and a group of children followed the fire dog into the firehouse and told Lt. Matthew F. Rogers that it had been hit by a car that kept going. Instead of waiting for help to come, Chief/Nip dragged himself back inside and tried to jump up on the fire engine seat. Missing the seat, he landed on the running board, where he curled up and died.
The members of Engine Company No. 203 kept him in a place of honor at the firehouse until the company disbanded in 1974.

Yours Truly believes Nick Freitas would have been a great member of the U.S. Senate. However, the RINO “Republican” PTB in Virginia decided that they’d rather “Go Along to Get Along”, so Freitas lost in the primary to Coery Stewart (who then lost in the general election). These same PTB also decided, for the same reason, that Freitas would lose to that DemCommunist, Spanberger.

Hi, RDS! I am personally connected to that situation in a way, since I lived in that area, and Nick is the Rep for my grandson’s district in Culpepper. I love, love, love Nick! Best of the best, as far as I’m concerned. And I am familiar with that prick Corey Stewart – issues with the Islamic complex he got approved for a rural area! Let me tell you – if I still lived where I lived for 8 years in that area – I’d have been raising some hell! That was my back yard.

here’s the “insurrection” story starring adam schiff:
As a bombshell update to our previous story on the arrests made on Capitol Hill last night, we were right on both of our predictions. First, we said they would release the news just before close-of-business on Friday when stories are intended to get buried for the weekend. Second, we said the withholding of details from the arrest meant they were almost certainly radical leftists.
It turns out the seven arrested for unlawful entry were employees of radical leftist show host Stephen Colbert. They were doing a skit about January 6, banging on doors of Republicans. What we did not know is the biggest bombshell of them all. They were let into the building by Democrat Congressmen Adam Schiff and Jake Auchincloss.

That 239,416 number is the figure for only the illegals that were caught. Multiply 239,416 by 3 = 718,248 — then add in the 239,416 to get 957,664 — the most likely REAL number of illegals for the month of May. The BP estimates that for every ONE illegal they catch, THREE MORE slip around them and run into the country.

teacher in hawaii arrested for having sex with a minor (student), videotaping it and distributing it…what we once feared would happen if homosexuals were allowed to teach our children is happening.
FTA
Those of us over the age of 40 (or maybe 50) remember back in the days when homosexuals were often banned from teaching because people were afraid that they would be predators who would groom students. In the old days (the 1970s and 1980s), people advocating for gays and lesbians in the classrooms assured the general public that it was a calumny and a canard to accuse homosexuals of being predatory groomers. However, what we’re seeing with the push to get the LGBTQ+++ agenda in the classroom is exactly what people worried about all those years ago.
Most of America’s teachers, whether straight or LGBTQ+++, are just ordinary people doing a job. However, there are predators out there and what’s happening with the Pride push in school is that these predators are getting normalized. After all, the Overton window (that is, the area of normalcy within a community) keeps getting pushed further and further left, especially in the case of child sexuality.
Here’s my rule of thumb: People who define themselves primarily by their sexual identity (“I’m gay and I’m a teacher,” as opposed to “I’m a teacher and my private life is none of your business”) shouldn’t be allowed around children—nor should people like Alden Bunag, who was clearly obsessed with teaching sex to children. These people are like rattlesnakes, making clear their malevolent intentions, but leftists insist that parents ignore the sound or, maybe, teach their kids to cha-cha to the rhythmic beats.

FFS…more “relief” from Ultra Maggot. he was looking at sending americans gift cards they could use for gas, but the microchip shortage coupled with the realization that they could be used for ANYTHING else put a halt to that dumbass giveaway. (taxpayers who can’t afford gas are giving giftcards to other taxpayers who can’t afford gas and that will make it better? )
FTA
With the price of gas becoming prohibitively high across the country, the Biden administration has suggested a variety of solutions aimed at easing the burden on consumers.
They were forced to pull the brakes on their latest plan of simply sending Americans gift cards for gas after it was revealed that the ongoing chip shortage would make it nearly impossible.
On Friday, the Washington Post reported that the Biden administration thought the program had some promise. A deeper dive, however, revealed a number of underlying issues, namely a shortage in the chips that would need to be inserted into each card.
As Forbes reports, production of microchips and semiconductors was hit hard by the pandemic, and has not yet bounced back to prior levels, making it hard for companies and countries around the world to purchase what’s needed.
American industries are some of the biggest consumers of chips in the world, making up nearly 50 percent of global sales. On the production side, however, America accounts for only 12 percent.
There has been a push to manufacture more chips in the US, so as to ensure American industry has enough to keep things moving. That is unlikely to happen any time soon, though, rendering the Biden administration’s planned gas card program unfeasible.
Aside from the chip shortage, it was noted that, realistically, there would be no way to stop Americans from using their gas cards for other things, as many did with the COVID-19 relief cheques that were intended to be used on essential goods.

senate passes expansion of Veteran’s benefits…goes to the house
FTA
Gillibrand said the new bill was the result of a massive, coordinated lobbying campaign.
“It was this huge effort to get people on board. We’ve been doing press conferences and rallies and calling offices and finding co-sponsors for the last two years. And it just culminated with this momentum of people really demanding that we do right by our veterans,” Gillibrand said. “So it’s an example of the veterans themselves and their family members doing the work, coming to Washington over and over and putting a spotlight on it so that no senator could not be informed about how urgent this was for their constituents.”
The bill would extend, from five years to 10 years, the period after veterans’ separation from the military during which they can seek out health care from the VA. If within that time period the veteran qualifies for care, he or she will continue to receive it indefinitely.
Also in the legislation is an expansion of benefits for veterans exposed to radiation during the Cold War, an expansion of the list of illnesses linked to the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War and an extension of benefits to Vietnam War-era veterans who served in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Guam and may have been exposed to Agent Orange there.
It would also greatly expand the VA’s physical footprint by setting up 31 new, major medical clinics across 19 states while hiring thousands more claims processors and staff.
In addition to health care, eligible veterans will receive disability benefits as high as $3,332 a month, depending on the severity of the ailment.

EXCERPTS (video @ link): Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) at a press conference at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office on Friday announced a series of actions the Sunshine State is taking to address President Biden’s border crisis, making it clear that Florida is fighting back against these “catastrophic” policies.
——————–
While he said Florida has taken action, such as banning sanctuary cities, more needs to be done. The first additional action the state will take involves $12 million for the creation of a “strike force of state and local law enforcement to be able to interdict illegal drug smuggling, human trafficking, as well as illegals that are illegally carrying firearms throughout the state of Florida,” which has already started operations in Northwest Florida.
“The second thing we are doing is we have today filed a petition with the Florida Supreme Court requesting an order to impanel a statewide grand jury to examine international human smuggling networks that bring illegal aliens across the southern border, and ultimately, to states like Florida,” he explained:
‘The grand jury will examine the effects of those international networks on Florida and how they have violated Florida law, and the purpose of the grand jury will be to investigate individuals and organizations that are actively working with foreign nationals, drug cartels, coyotes to illegally smuggle minors, some as young as two years old, across the border and into Florida. This is just wrong what they’re doing, and we are going to go after it.’
Additionally, the grand jury will investigate smugglers’ methods to transport unaccompanied alien children, as well as local governments that are “aiding this smuggling scheme by intentionally violating our state law against sanctuary jurisdictions.”
As the third action, DeSantis is signing Senate Bill 1808 “to fight illegal immigration to further protect Floridians from Biden’s border crisis.” The bill itself “penalizes any of these contractors that the federal government is hiring to dump illegal aliens in our state, and so, they will be ineligible for any tax contract or anything like that,” according to the governor.
“The bill also requires law enforcement agencies operating with county detention facilities to enter into a written agreement with ICE to assist in enforcing federal immigration laws by identifying illegal aliens who do not belong in the United States,” he said.
“We don’t want to be like San Francisco or L.A. or some of these states where they’re basically just sanctuary jurisdictions, and the rule of law has effectively been suspended. So that’s not gonna fly in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said, later adding, “Today, Florida fights back”:

we just recovered a chair top for my mom. last time we visited she brought my attention to her sewing machine chair (about 50 years old at least) and the fact the she likes the sturdiness of the chair but the top was worn and the stuffing showing. She asked if i could recover it.
this is a shaped seat (not a simple square)–and when hubby removed it from the frame, and turned it over–the vinyl had been stretched and tacked into place with about 60-70 upholstery nails…now mostly rusted it seemed.
rather than removing the nails, which i doubted we could do easily, I decided to staple faux vinyl I had at home over it.
the faux vinyl is thicker and would last much longer, but still give her a soft comfy seat. after some stretching, stapling, stretching some more and repositioning, we did it!
why did I have the faux vinyl at home in the first place? when I saw the remnant I bought it without any thought other than this might be useful one day.

Sliding down for progress report: Poor Michael – he had to work a 7 hour shift yesterday, by himself with no breaks, and his back/feet were hurting big-time. I said he should have told me so we could postpone but he insisted it was ok…..he also brought me a present so….I am now fit for company, as we say! My arbor is now nice and straight and he gave me some wire to make it even more sturdy. Silly novice that I am, I only had one wire on one and used a zip-lock chain on the other. Duh! He gave me a roll of wire and helped straighten it up – it is now so straight, it almost lines up with my front door. We also worked out using the wire to keep the cross-bars in place. Yeah! He brought a sawz-all instead of his chain saw so the tree limbs were out of the question and I wouldn’t have even let him do it, considering how he was feeling on top of the heat!
Saving grace here with the heat is that the temp has stopped it’s meteoric rise and is slowly working it’s way up, now 86 in the shade on my patio. And we’ve got a nice, stiff breeze so neither of us even broke a sweat but it is humid. I uncovered one of the cantaloupe seedlings that looks big enough that the rabbits won’t eat it. The others are still too small. There is a virtual explosion of rabbits this year! Maybe it was the warm winter?
I can’t wait for the “blue” clematis on the ladder to bloom – it’s supposed to be blue but it’s really purple – it has a ton of buds – so I can send you a pic. Next to my Uncle Sam, the small flag on the ladder, and the red & white petunias….the pieces may be shabby but it will reflect my love of my country, regardless.

ROFLMFAO – yeah, he’s a douche but he can be a REALLY funny one!!!
Entire Article (video and full transcript @ link) “On Friday’s edition of Real Time on HBO, host Bill Maher skewered the Washington Post for its Dave Weigel-Felicia Sonmez controversy, labeling the Post as an “unlicensed daycare center” and mocking the recently sacked Sonmez for lacking of a sense of humor.
Maher began by requesting “If someone knows of a story that more effectively captures what’s wrong with today’s journalism than the sad saga of what happened last week at the Washington Post, they need to keep it to themselves, because it would be too depressing.”
Recapping the situation, Maher informed viewers that, “the Washington Post recently got embroiled in a self-inflicted shitstorm when one of their best reporters David Weigel, retweeted — not tweeted, retweeted — this joke: ‘Every girl is bi. You just have to figure out if it’s polar or sexual.’”
After guffaws from the audience, Maher thanked the audience for “Proving it is a joke” and then explained to self-serious people like Sonmez why people found the joke funny, “For eons, both sexes have made jokes about how the other is crazy, and no one but the perpetually offended thinks it means anything more than that the sexes get frustrated over how differently we see the world, and yes, we relieve some of that frustration with humor. And, scene.”
Getting back to the internal dynamics at the Post, Maher continued, “Nevertheless, Weigel pulled down his retweet and wrote ‘I apologize and did not mean to cause any harm.’ And that was the end of that. I’m joking, of course, the unlicensed day care center that is today’s ‘newsroom’ went apeshit. You see, the post has another writer named Felicia Sonmez and she’s…a lot. For example, she tweeted about Kobe Bryant’s 2003 rape trial hours after his helicopter crashed.”
After recalling Sonmez’s declaring, ‘”Fantastic to work at a news outlet where tweets like this are allowed!,’” Maher criticized both Sonmez and the Post’s reactions, “Yes, can you imagine a world that allows jokes you don’t like? Of course—of course– the leadership at the post folded like a Miami condo and suspended Weigel without pay for a month and denounced the offending retweet as a gross violation of their values, free speech apparently not being one of them.”
Continuing to poke fun at Sonmez’s inability to take a joke, he recalled the next development in the saga, “Then a third Post reporter offered up the idea, of course, on Twitter, because why do anything privately? That hey, maybe everyone was overreacting and we should all just calm down and then it was really on: Felicia demanded that the post discipline him, and tweeted about that. I assume she’s tweeting about this right now. For days, she raged with the fire of a thousand burning bras.”
In reality, Sonmez hasn’t tweeted since the day she was fired, presumably because she’s going to sue the Post, which might violate Maher’s earlier request to not present him with even dumber stories about modern journalism.

“Gavel, a German shepherd was trained from puppy-hood to be a police dog, and his crime-fighting future seemed certain—until officers started taking him out in the field. The dog was super smart and good at the details of his job but he had one major “flaw.” He loved nothing more than to run up and greet strangers, all strangers, including criminals. So he was given a new job, as the Vice-Regal Dog for Queensland, Australia. He lives at the governor’s mansion and gives welcome tours to visitors, acting as a canine ambassador. Here’s what happens to service dogs when they retire.”
“You’ve seen kids get their heads stuck in places they should never be? Well, it’s not just human children who misjudge an opening and become wedged by their ears, as shown by a baby raccoon found dangling from the underside of a storm grate. Her pathetic pleas caught the attention of a passerby who called the fire department. After trying everything to free her, they finally gave her a muscle relaxer and were able to slide her out. After two days of recovery, she’s back in the wild. “Although she probably has an extra-long neck,” joked one of her rescuers.”
“Some dogs love hiking. Not Floyd. The 190-pound mastiff decided halfway through a long hike in the mountains with his family that he was just done. Exhausted, he sat down on the trail and refused to move, no matter what his owners did. Finally, one person stayed with Floyd while the others hiked out to get help. Park rangers called in an emergency rescue team that carried him out on a litter. “He was just chill,” one of the rescuers said. “He knew he was getting carried out. He just laid there and enjoyed the ride.” Apparently mastiffs are known for just deciding they don’t want to use their legs anymore and many owners have commented on the Facebook post that this is why they always bring a wagon on walks.”
“The recent California wildfires have provided numerous examples of human heroism but it turns out that animals have been superheroes too, including a black mare named Prieta. People saw the grandmother horse heading back towards the flames, into a stable, to find two other horses, including her two-month-old grand-foal, Onyx, reports Inside Edition. Once she’s found them, she herded them back towards the road, to safety. “It’s just a natural instinct for a mother to want to go back for their child and animals have the same instincts that we do,” noted one touched observer.”

so this douche is a 7 times DEPORTED ILLEGAL who fired at cops, owns property…WTH?
enitre article
A man whose bail was cut from $5 million to $100,000 (98% reduction) after shooting at police officers while drunkenly fleeing in a 100-mph car chase is an illegal immigrant who has been deported seven times.
Pablo Nava-Jaimes, 31, allegedly fired at least 10 rounds at police during a pursuit after leaving a barbecue where he had “8 or 9 beers” on June 5, per a criminal complaint. He stated that he “didn’t know why he fired at officers” but was frustrated because he felt police hadn’t adequately responded to vandalism of his property. This was not his first interaction with law enforcement, however, as he has previously been deported seven times, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson told Alpha News.
“Pablo Nava-Jaimes, 31, is a citizen of Mexico and unlawfully present in the United States. Nava-Jaimes illegally entered the United States at an unknown date and at an unknown location,” the spokesperson said. This is at least his eighth illegal entry into the U.S.: “United States Border Patrol encountered and voluntarily removed Nava-Jaimes from the U.S. on at least seven occasions between 2008 and 2010,” the spokesperson reported.
Despite his illegal status, he was not deported following a pair of 2021 arrests, one in June “for domestic assault, first-degree assault, and drug charges,” and another in December for “fifth-degree drug possession and two counts of open container in a motor vehicle,” per ICE.
For his most recent arrest, he will face three counts of first-degree assault, one count of using deadly force against a police officer, and two counts of using a dangerous weapon in a drive-by shooting, ICE said.
ICE confirmed it has “encountered Nava-Jaimes at the Ramsey County Jail” where he “remains in custody” and that the agency “can place an immigration detainer on individuals who have been arrested on criminal charges and who ICE has probable cause to believe are removable.”
However, sometimes in sanctuary cities, local law enforcement doesn’t honor the detainer, instead releasing illegal suspects into the community. “When law enforcement agencies fail to honor immigration detainers and release serious criminal offenders onto the streets, it undermines ICE’s ability to protect public safety and carry out its mission,” the agency said.

Well, we’re up to 93 now since the wind has dropped some, and I can see some clouds to the south and west….they did say we could get a stray storm.

I can remember seeing black women wearing picks sticking up out of their mops or filthy braids all day, as if it was an adornment or something.

that’s what i’m guessing this is…
when it’s really windy, my pointer jumps all over the place…LOL

That’s odd, tho – the wind shouldn’t affect that….

well it affects the wifi…
it’s the only correlation I came up with…never happens on calm days. and even mildly windy days it’s okay…but when it’s really blowing…the pointer jumps

you have decent wifi, no?
ours is satellite…

Yes, it has been very dependable lately. I’m somewhere between your situation and my neighbors, whose WIFI is hard-wired into their house. But that still shouldn’t affect your mouse, since it is connecting remotely to your laptop, not the satellite.

dunno how the sausage is made, but i can attest to the fact that when it’s windy here…every flight of stairs i go up, my fitbit counts as 2 or sometimes 3. on windy days, it says i climbed 37 flights of stairs…

hypocrite not going unnoticed…
Obama is installing a 2,500 gal. Commercial Propane tank for his Martha’s Vineyard home. Wind mills, solar panels, and other renewables apparently are just for the Biden suckers paying $7.00 for gas. A little hypocritical?

Obama had a $75,000 tank of propane installed at his Martha’s Vineyard beach house.
You know how he knows it is safe and no one can steal any of it?
Because SS agents with GUNS are protecting it for him

If you were to imagine what a political campaign in a banana republic or similarly corrupt third world nation would look like, what would you imagine? Probably a heavy dose of voter fraud and massive amounts of campaign funds being “paid” to those close to the politician, right?
Well Democrat Maxine Waters appears to have perfected the latter half, at least, as details are emerging about her paying the massive sum of $1.1 million to her daughter for campaign-related services, and Democrat Ilhan Omar racked up an even larger $2.9 million bill with her husband.
It’s amazing how talented their family members are where they can command such high prices!
The New York Post, reporting on the massive amount of money certain Democrats have paid to family members out of campaign funds, notes that:
“Maxine Waters [paid] $1.1 million to her daughter from campaign funds. Ilhan Omar, $2.9 million to her husband from campaign funds. James Clyburn, over $200,000 to multiple family members from his campaign.”
Well, not all congressmen are corrupt, or at least not so accepting of open corruption of the Omar and Waters sort, so they’re fighting back with a new bill meant to make it harder for politicians to pay off their family members and thus enrich themselves, or at least their families, with campaign funds.
According to the NYP, Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas has introduced a bill, the Family Integrity to Reform Elections (FIRE) Act, that would “bar any candidate running for federal office from compensating immediate family members for campaign services.”
The Post then adds that the bill “would extend the ban to any political committee “established, maintained or controlled by a candidate or an individual holding Federal office” – blocking any current lawmaker from compensating a family member for working on their campaign.”
Fallon, describing the bill and its necessity for the Post after pointing out the above figures regarding how much Maxine and Ilhan paid their families out of campaign funds, said:
“The numbers speak for themselves,” Fallon added. “Americans are sick of politicians abusing their voters’ hard-earned money. This modern-day spoils system must end. My bill shines light on shady campaign finance practices while punishing those who take advantage of these funds to enrich their families.”
And the restrictions in the bill are harsh, as are the financial punishments it would dole out to those who break its provisions. Reporting on those aspects of the FIRE Act, respectively, the New York Post notes that:
Relatives who fall under the proposed ban would include spouses, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, and domestic partners as well as the spouses of campaign committee members.
If the bill becomes law, any candidate who violates the ban would face a fine of either $100,000 for each violation or twice the amount paid to the family members — whichever is greater — and/or imprisonment for up to two years. The campaign committee would not be permitted to reimburse the candidate for any of the penalties.
