In 1610, King Philip of Spain ordered the construction of three ships to be built in Acapulco. They were to be used for the harvesting of pearls along the Pacific coast of Mexico. These vessels, of a type named caravels, would be smaller and more maneuverable than the 200-ton galleons that had transported the first conquistadors from Cuba to Veracruz. The caravels would have a shallow draft, square sails, and 13 rows of oars on each side, which would allow them to navigate easily in shallow water, regardless of wind direction.

The ships were completed in 1612 and they immediately set sail under the command of captains Alvarez de Cordone, Pedro de Rosales, and Juan de Iturbe. Between them they had 40 experienced pearl divers who were slaves brought over from the Portuguese colony of Sierra Leone in West Africa.

It was no accident that the ships were heading north. Nearly 80 years earlier, Hernán Cortés had sailed up to the tip of Baja and found that Bahia de La Paz was loaded with oysters that produced perfectly shaped pearls. At the time, pearls were in great demand and were even more valuable than gold. But the Spanish were unable to establish a permanent settlement in La Paz because of the large numbers of hostile natives and a lack of fresh food and water.

So, the ships led by Captain Cordone passed La Paz but traded for pearls at other coastal villages along the coast of Baja. However, at one village things went awry. When Cordone promised to trade a basket of clothing for a basket of pearls, the native chief was surprised to find his basket filled with worm-eaten cloth. The chief had expected clothing like that worn by the officers. The angered chief shot Cordone in the chest with an arrow. While he wasn’t killed, the captain was forced to return to Acapulco for medical treatment. He ordered his two fellow captains to sail their ships further up the Sea of Cortez.

At present-day Mulege, the men hit the jackpot. A big storm had washed thousands of oysters up onto the beach and men quickly filled their baskets. But upon their departure, Captain Rosales’s caravel struck a reef and began to take on water. Captain Iturbe brought his ship alongside the sinking vessel and moved its cargo and crew into his own.

Now Iturbe had a decision to make: return to Acapulco early or continue north and load up with even more pearls? He chose the latter. For a week he sailed farther north until his ship entered a large estuary. Gradually the route narrowed and then opened up into what he described as a great “inland sea.” This would have been the ancient Lake Cahuilla, today’s much smaller Salton Sea. The captain sailed along the eastern edge of the inland sea and continued up the Colorado River nearly 100 miles to the site of modern day Blythe (where Interstate 10 crosses the Colorado).

It was here that Iturbe decided to turn around. He sailed back down the river and across the great inland sea. But in the weeks since their arrival the water level had fallen tremendously. A miles-long continuous ring of sand bars blocked their exit. They were trapped and Iturbe and his men circled around the inland sea for three days until their ship ran aground. The crew gathered as much of their cargo as they could carry and then they abandoned the ship.

Most of them survived the long and miserable walk back to the Spanish settlement of Guaymas, and a few months later they were transported back to Acapulco on a Spanish galleon. However, their ship and the majority of its cargo of pearls were to remain forever stuck on the edge of the great inland sea, covered by sand dunes.

Throughout the years, particularly during the Gold Rush years, numerous sightings were made of the rotting remains of a ship out in the barren Colorado Desert region, but no one has recovered any of the buried cargo.

In June of 2009, the San Diego Reader published a story entitled “Stay Away from Pinto Canyon.” The story was about a trek 2 friends made to a remote canyon in order to photograph petroglyphs — prehistoric rock paintings. The petroglyphs were not what they expected. There were no wooly mammoths or saber-toothed cats. Instead they found a crude collection of stick figures, next to what looked like a large sailing vessel with square sails and oars protruding from it.

The article and the pictures intrigued an exhibit designer from The Maritime Museum who then secured permission from the federal government to view the petroglyphs personally. He concluded that there was no definitive proof, but they could be representing the failed Spanish expedition–and any one of the three doomed ships.

So it’s just as likely that the petroglyph represents Juan de Iturbe’s doomed pearl ship, which ran aground just six miles from Pinto Canyon. Most of the people who’ve seen the remains of Iturbe’s ship were riding in off-road vehicles, and one of them, Imperial Valley resident Ed Barff, provided a precise location. He says the caravel lies three hundred feet southeast of the eastern-most edge of the Superstition Mountains. Much of that area is designated for off-road vehicle use. But the ship’s remains are located in a section reserved as a bombing range under the jurisdiction of Naval Air Facility El Centro.

Does anyone else wonder why the federal government always seems to be in the picture whenever lost treasure is being hunted?

So Biden will effectively take us back to the pre-Trump era where China had free rein with screwing us over.     For those of you who don’t know what red flag laws are, the idea is that we stop mass shooters by taking away guns from people who exhibit the “red flags” of mental disease or the potential to be a murderer. As with the removal of “misinformation” and “hate speech,” red flag laws sound good on the surface, but they too suffer from the same flaw — who decides and what qualifies? They’re simply another way to remove Constitutional rights from anyone who may threaten Ruling Class power. The list of possible justifications are endless. For example:

    You attempted suicide decades ago as a teenager.
    You were within blocks of the Capitol during the January 6th riot.
    You’ve been accused (but not charged with) domestic violence by a vindictive ex.
    Your accounts have been suspended by Twitter or Facebook.
    Someone (such as an FBI agent) hacked into your social media account and posted a threat.
    You’ve protested Covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates.
    You donated money to the NRA or Kyle Rittenhouse defense funds.
    You’ve liked or re-tweeted anti-government or anti-New World Order posts.
    You refuse to surrender your AR-15 or “excessive” ammunition.
    You’ve been charged with a crime, but the government delays the trial for years.
    You got in a drunken bar fight years ago.
    You have a parent or sibling who committed violent crimes; i.e. a genetic red flag.

    Get the idea? Expect unelected bureaucrats to administer the laws without checks’n’balances. Don’t count on courts to protect you since you’ll lose your rights while appeals work their way through the courts, and if you eventually win your case, as with Covid, tyrannical government leaders will just modify the laws slightly to start the process all over.

      I haven’t been putting the jelly feeder out for almost a week now–the oriole were all over the hundreds of honeysuckles we have. this morning they were back trying to feed out of the hummer feeders–and 3 (!) hummers attacked it and chased it off…dang!

      1. They have eased off the jelly a bit here – when they have hatchlings, they focus more on insects for protein for their young’uns. Once the hatchlings are grown, they return to the jelly.

    1. nope. not going to subscribe to the theory that consent can be given at that early age. if we were to agree with that, then that means juvenile crime ends at 13 as well, meaning any child that robs, assaults or whatever is no longer in a juvenile detention center, but placed in regular jail.

      my friends special in house clearing. when a person dies or someone moves, the owners take what they want, then my friends come in and take the rest–and they are quick and competitive.
      they flea market–so they come in, do a quick visual appraisal based on what they expect to make on the items left and suggest their fee. if agreed upon, they will be back the following day to clear out everything left.
      they have 4 (iirc) storage units to move things into.
      they love it.

    The drug, dostarlimab, was administered to each patient every three weeks for six months. Some patients are required to use a colostomy bag due to treatment, the Times said.

    At the conclusion of the drug trial, however, the patients were spared the agony of potentially damaging treatment when they showed no evidence of a tumor after receiving an MRI, rectal examination and biopsy. “There were a lot of happy tears,” Dr. Andrea Cercek, an oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, told the Times.

    In addition to not needing further treatment to eradicate the disease, there were no instances of a recurrence of cancer in the patients during follow-up appointments from six to 25 months after the trial ended. But while the results are “compelling,” Dr. Hanna K. Sanoff of the University of North Carolina’s Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, who was not involved in the study, said it is not clear if the patients are cured.

    “Very little is known about the duration of time needed to find out whether a clinical complete response to dostarlimab equates to cure,” Sanoff wrote in an editorial accompanying the paper, the Times noted.

    The study is also small and the results would need to be replicated, Dr. Kimmie Ng, a colorectal cancer expert at Harvard Medical School, told the publication. Still, it is promising news for patients. One participant, Sascha Roth, told the Times that she had planned to move to Manhattan for chemotherapy and radiation treatment before the study began. Then doctors gave her the good news: The trial worked and she was cancer-free. “I told my family,” Roth said. “They didn’t believe me.”

    “If you return to this country again and you are back in front of me, I will not spare you,” said Chhabria. “Let this be your last warning: do not return to this country.”

    Afrikaans is one of South Africa’s 11 official languages and is the first language of about 13% of the country’s population. It’s a Dutch-based language developed by many of the country’s white settlers who came from the Netherlands and is associated with South Africa’s apartheid regime of white minority rule that ended in 1994.

    “Due to the high prevalence of fraudulent South African passports, we require passengers traveling to the U.K. to fill out a simple questionnaire issued in Afrikaans,” Ryanair said in a brief press statement. “If they are unable to complete this questionnaire, they will be refused travel and issued with a full refund.”

    The British High Commission in Pretoria said on Twitter that the test “is not a U.K. government requirement,” and linked to a website with official rules for South African visitors.

    Importing COVID: Biden administration releases 7,000 COVID-infected illegal border crossers into McAllen, Texas

    So much for Title 42, the court-reinforced order to keep illegal border crossers out of the U.S. to protect the public here during the pandemic.

    Actually, they’re letting them in … and letting them in. There’s no limit.

    Here’s the news from just one border city, McAllen, Texas, reported by Fox News:

    The Texas border city of McAllen says more than 7,000 COVID-positive migrants have been released into the city since February, and more than 1,500 in the past week — the latest example of growing concern about the potential impact of the border crisis on efforts to control COVID-19 in the U.S.

    In a statement announcing the building of new temporary shelters to deal with a “rapidly escalating” surge of immigrants being released into the border city, McAllen warned of the release of thousands of migrants with COVID-19.

    “Since mid-February of 2021 there have been over 7,000 confirmed COVID-19 positive immigrants released into the city of McAllen by [Customs and Border Protection], including over 1,500 new cases in the past seven days,” the statement said.

    Immigrants released by CBP are dropped off with Catholic Charities and tested for COVID by a third party. If they test positive, they are asked to quarantine and offered a room at a quarantine site.

    According to City-Data, McAllen, Texas has a population of 143,000 and is Texas’s 22nd-largest city. Adding 1,400 people with COVID into a population of that size in one week is a hell of a lot of COVID to get spreading.

    Ostensibly, these migrants are a “humanitarian exception” to the Title 42 sendbacks — single moms with small children, and unaccompanied minors, most of whom are single MS-13-aged young men.

    The problem here is that they spread COVID as much as the single adults and families with older children who are being sent back. There’s no exception with COVID, whether it comes from a single mom with four kids in tow or a single adult male without kids.

    Leftists are claiming that the illegal migrants with COVID being admitted are asked — asked — to move to quarantine units — which are reportedly full at this point — presumably to get well first before being free to walk around the country.

    No word on what happens if they say “no.” No word on what happens if there’s no room at the tent.

    Having just gotten over this latest strain of COVID myself, and talked to others who have had it recently, all I can think is that it will take weeks — at least three — for the sick migrants to get well and test negative. That’s a lot of time and beds taken in an isolation unit, which would likely include whole families should one member test positive.

    Are they going to stay the full three weeks? Don’t bet on it. With thousands of border crossers coming into the country by the day in a ramped-up surge that is already seeing the bridge underpasses filling up, according to the Fox report video, that’s a lot of COVID that’s likely to be released into the interior of the U.S. and to the U.S. public.

    Outside the tent cities being put up for the COVID-infected illegal migrants, many are being placed in hotels at taxpayer expense. What happens at the hotels, is there an armed guard to keep the migrants from stepping out from their rooms and mingling with the public? There sure as heck wasn’t in this case last year, sure enough in La Joya, Texas, where COVID-infected illegals stationed in a hotel to isolate entered a Texas restaurant and coughed all over the patrons, not so much as covering their mouths. No guards at that one — and why should the U.S. public be forced to pay for guards anyway simply because unvetted migrants cannot be trusted to respect the health of the public? Based on recent news reports, the illegal migrants have already shown zero respect for U.S. immigration (and public littering) laws. Why would they care if they spread COVID to the American public?

    The weasel word “asked” to isolate is quite a qualifier. We know what happens when the NGOs put them in hotels to isolate. What happens if they don’t like the tents?

    What we have here is an amazing federal defiance of a judicial order on Title 42, which pretty much negates the entire order. Migrants have complained that they are COVID-negative when they have been turned away under that Title 42 order in past news stories, but now that the U.S. is importing 7,000 COVID-infected migrants at one illegal point of entry alone (and there are many) the Biden administration is effectively importing COVID into the states, and placing a tremendous burden onto the border towns which bear the brunt of the infected migrants’ effect.

    This one sounds like grounds for a lawsuit by the states.

    It is outrageous how lawless the Biden administration, under court order to keep Title 42 in place, is thumbing its nose at the law and bringing in thousands of COVID-infected illegals to superspread among the citizens and incur high taxpayer costs for their care should they take it. What is the point of even trying if that many “exceptions” get in? The Bidenites don’t actually care. They are importing COVID.

    Megan Small, who was director of operations for the Trump campaign and was subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 Committee in September, published a Cheney campaign mailer on Twitter Monday requesting donations.

    “Hey [Liz Cheney], is it standard operating procedure on the Jan. 6 committee to ask subpoenaed witnesses for campaign contributions?” Small wrote.

    Small told The Federalist she received the mailer at her Florida address on May 21, calling the letter “unsavory at best” given the committee’s threats to refer those subpoenaed for criminal prosecution by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

    “[Cheney] has threatened to make criminal referrals to DOJ of those witnesses,” Small said. “So arguably the campaign contributions is being solicited not just from a witness, but from someone who may or may not be, at her discretion, referred to DOJ for criminal prosecution.”

    New Jersey voter registration records contain more than 8,200 duplicate names, making it possible for one person to cast two ballots, plus another 61 triplicate registrations, seven quadruplicates, three pentaplicates, and one sextuplicate, according to the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF).

    “New Jersey’s voter registration system, like nearly every other studied by PILF, can be tricked into registering a person multiple times with extremely similar biographical data inputs at the same addresses,” states the PILF analysis published on June 6.

    “These serve as an administrative challenge to be resolved as we see more automation to vote-by-mail. Otherwise, ‘John Public’ and ‘John Q. Public’ could each vote once, while the actual John is voting twice.

    “The most common finding error type, clerical/typographical error, can be as subtle as transposed letters. As an example, Julia Rose and Juila Rose are the same person, but she has duplicate registrations with unique voter identification numbers.”

    The Virginia-based PILF alerted the New Jersey Secretary of State to the problems uncovered by the firm’s analysis of the voter rolls, which was only made possible by a federal court suit.

    “Tens of thousands of other voter records were highlighted for missing or fictitious biographical information like dates of birth. These represent current and future problems with voter roll list maintenance that the Garden State needs to address,” the report states.

    “To get to the root of the problems, PILF also filed a federal lawsuit to access copies of list maintenance procedural guides after the NJSOS denied requests for fear of hacking risks.”

    Other registration problems uncovered by PILF in the New Jersey rolls include nearly 2,400 individuals listed as active voters whose birthdays make them more than 100 years old.

    “There are 2,398 registrants showing dates of birth in 1917 or before across New Jersey. Given that the most recent average life expectancy data show to be 80.7 years in the state, the thousands of registrants aged well beyond 100 years deserve closer examination,” the report states.

    The report also found thousands of registrations with inaccurate dates of birth, fictitious registration dates, fictitious registration dates and birth dates, and even dates of birth from centuries ago or years into the future such as Jan. 14, 2028, and Sept. 30, 2029.

    “New Jersey has some explaining to do in how it collects and maintains basic voter information. As we have already demonstrated, PILF will pursue available remedies to correct often long neglected government records,” PILF President J. Christian Adams states in the report.

    we talked about food production being targeted–corn in ethanol–baby food–chicken processing plants and she thinks the gov’t doesn’t want us growing our own food either…hence the release of the caterpillars…

    1. I admittedly know nothing whatsoever about the corn/ethanol issue. But we’ve got corn coming out the ass and I really don’t see why it is an issue with people, using portions of corn for fuel. It saves me $$$ every time I go to the pump and I support my local community when I buy it! Our nearby ethanol plants employ a lot of people here and it’s good paying employment, with great benefits. Add in what they add to the tax base…..to me, it’s a win/win. Great people – I hosted their Christmas party one year at the Legion.

      1. one of the problems is the damage done to gas powered engines at percentages over 10%…some warranties do not cover repairs if the gas is over that percentage–so another push to electric vehicles…
        and with the destruction of food resources–processing plants being set on fire and the like, why waste a food source on gas???

        1. Gas, in many cases, is just as necessary as food items but……I use it in my vehicles and in my mower. I think there are a lot more important issues to be concerned with, personally.

Smaller refineries buy their RIN credits from large refineries. Two things could result from this. The RIN credits will increase for one. For another, it would be a great way to eventually force smaller refineries out of business.

    Radical abortion activists who firebombed the office of a pro-life groups in Wisconsin and Oregon and who have vandalized over a dozen churches and pregnancy centers have struck again.

    Early this morning police and fire departments in Buffalo, New York responded to smoke and fire at CompassCare, a pro-life medical office and pregnancy center that helps women and children. The building was firebombed and the windows in the reception room and nurses’ office were broken and fires lit.

    Graffiti on the building left by the arsonists refers to the abortion terrorist group Jane’s Revenge reading, “Jane Was Here.” The group took responsibility for a firebombing of a pro-life organization in Madison, Wisconsin in May, and it could have been responsible for bombing the offices of Oregon Right to Life during the same month. It has also vandalized and destroyed multiple churches and pregnancy centers.

    CompassCare’s CEO, Jim Harden told LifeNews, “This is the pro-abortion ‘Kristallnacht.’ Because of this act of violence, the needs of women facing unplanned pregnancy will go unmet and babies will die.”

    Harden said CompassCare and other pro-life service centers have been the target of violence for months both online and in-person.

    “Ironically, New York’s Governor not only ignored the violence but instead earmarked $35 million in taxpayer funds to increase security at abortion clinics.     In Wisconsin, the pro-life group that was the subject of a firebombing is offering a reward to help find and arrest the radical abortion activist who firebombed its office last month.

    As LifeNews reported, abortion activists firebombed a pro-life group’s office in Madison, Wisconsin. A leftist radical threw Molotov cocktails into Wisconsin Family Action’s office in the capital city and a picture of the destruction shows the office heavily damaged from the bomb.

    KTXL reports that a 38-year-old man allegedly entered the backyard of the home and attacked the caretaker, at which point the caretaker shot him. KCRA notes that the caretaker is 43-years-old and identified the 93-year-old man as Dr. Robert Browne.

    The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital, where he died. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office notes the shooting “appears to be justified, at this time.”

    Browne recounted the fatal shooting, saying, “[The caretaker] noticed somebody out in my backyard. So, he jumped up and went out and confronted the individual, who was apparently bringing in a lot of food and equipment and stuff in the back yard, and he confronted him and the guy pulled a weapon out, and so my caretaker did likewise.”
