Bishop Castle

The Early Years

Let’s talk about being inspired. Young Jim Bishop in 1959, at the ripe old age of 15, paid four hundred and fifty dollars for a two and a half acre parcel of land enclosed on three sides by the majestic San Isabel National Forest in southern Colorado. It was money saved from mowing lawns, throwing newspapers, and working with his father Willard in the family ornamental iron works. Jim had dropped out of high school that year over an argument from his English teacher who yelled at him “You’ll never amount to anything Jim Bishop!” Ever since he was a boy, Jim was powerfully drawn up towards the mountains visible to the west from Pueblo, and having found a small 2-1/2 acre parcel one weekend on a bicycle journey with some friends, convinced his parents to buy it for him with his money.

So Willard and ma Polly signed for the land deal which Jim wasn’t even old enough to do himself, and the family now had a heavily forested two and a half acres at 9000 feet. Jim and his dad spent the next ten summers camping out on the land and doing the groundwork for a family cabin on the site. Setting the stage for what was to come, Jim soon learned that he really enjoyed swinging an axe and wielding a shovel or pick in building their clearing with a drive up to it, which is now the court-yard between the family cabin and the castle itself with it’s driveway.

It was in 1967 that Jim and Phoebe got married, a union they still enjoy to this day, and in 1969 at the age of twenty-five, Jim decided it was time to start building a cabin in the mountains they so loved. Since rocks were plentiful, everywhere, and free, he chose to start building a one room stone cottage…

NOTE: Stock photo – The Bishop cabin had windows on all sides and big double doors in front. When they left the door open, the hummers would sometimes fly in – the hummers got so familiar with them that when they wanted to leave and the door was closed, the would hover in front of the door until they opened it for them. They also had chairs that were tree stumps, with the seat hollowed out.

Snow doesn’t melt completely at 9000 feet usually until the middle of May, sometimes even into June, so the summer building season is a short one. Jim started building his cabin, and after a while Jim and Willard started trading off two week stints, one at the shop running the business and one up the mountain working on the family cabin. This lasted until the late spring of 1971, when the problem of getting running water into the cabin arose. Willard suggesting putting in a large metal tank that he had salvaged from a welding job to be a gravity fed cistern. Jim thought it’d be functional, and construction began on the water tank. It is a 40 foot metal cylinder which Willard surrounded with stonework.

Jim continued to build his cottage, and the walls grew. Throughout the summer, family friends, a couple local ranchers, and even some family members commented that it looked like they were building a castle! “Hey Jim! That looks like a turret or something!” “What are you building, a castle?!”

Jim heard that enough times that by the time late spring 1972 rolled around, his imagination had been stirred something fierce, and Mr. Jim Bishop started telling friends and family that he was in fact going to be building a castle! When Willard first heard this, he stated as a matter of fact that castles tended to be pretty huge and that he wasn’t going to have anything to do with it! “That’s just too much work!” Jim kept right on building, and the construction that began as a one room stone cottage with an Eiffel Tower shaped fireplace gave birth to this country’s, and maybe even the world’s, largest one man project – The Bishop Castle.

It Just Keeps On Growing!
As the castle grew, so did word of the guy up in the mountains who was pursuing the American Dream – to be King of your own Castle! People came to visit more and more often, and Jim would often be asked if he wanted help building his castle. For the first eight years, the answer was always Sure! And in those eight years, not a single person ever kept their word and showed up to help. In a fit of cynical frustration, Jim vowed that “By God, I’ve gotten this far by myself. If you’re going to do something right, do it yourself!” So like the castle itself, the idea of the castle being a one man project was born in the process of the doing and was not an original intention or a childhood dream like many people think. And he kept building. And building. And the Bishop Castle grew…

Other Discoveries Along the Way

Many of the features of the Bishop Castle were discovered intuitively or stumbled upon as the building unfolded. In the process of the castle building, Jim discovered that he also really enjoyed building his body too. He even set up an old army wall tent in the clearing, where he would workout with weights for a couple of hours in the evenings after having built with stone and mortar all day! As he became increasingly involved in the weight lifting regime physically, he also discovered that realm of mind where his principles in building could also be applied to his life – balance in everything! This became an ideal he strove for in this proving of himself, through his stonework, his body, and in his mind. It was through this approach that Jim soon realized that he would find himself completely visualizing what he could build next and how it would all fit together on such a large scale.

There are no plans, blueprints or drawings other than the one Jim did to illustrate his book “Castle Building from my point of view”. The more Jim experienced how certain features lined up or fell into place is when he started suspecting that maybe something “more” was going on, that maybe it was the Creator of All Things working through him in this magnificent endeavor that seemed to have a spirit of it’s own. Jim started describing the Bishop Castle as “Built by One Man with the Help of God.” There’s really no other way to explain it!. And it kept growing…

Feats of Strength

In order to pursue the totality of what he could visualize, Jim employed anything and everything that was available to him. He had apprenticed and then mastered with his father in the family’s Bishop Ornamental Iron shop welding and scroll bending and learning how things fit together for most of his life. Jim did everything – hauling rock from the state highway ditches, felling timber and then milling it into lumber, building railroad ties into forms for his arches, (he’s used the same form over and over), building scaffolding as he went. He hand dug holes up to 12 feet deep for the foundations, mixed all his own mortar, carried it, usually up, to wherever he was working, created and rigged complex systems of pulleys and come-alongs to hoist such things as tree trunks for the floor supports, and, stone by stone, his dreams were being made manifest. Jim handles each and every stone in the castle on average of SIX TIMES before it rests in it’s final configuration in this massive re-organizing of the scattered granite in the Rocky Mountains into the form of the Bishop Castle.

Structural Ornaments

The beginning of the square tower on the south side of the main keep saw the first massive use of ironwork in the construction. Up until then Jim had incorporated his ironwork as window frames, stairs, and the purely ornamental. Now his use of iron and steel became structural, with a core frame for the tower starting from it’s foundations. The rock work formed around this base and created such strength that Jim had no fear contemplating the heights that the tower might one day climb to. Wooden forms soon gave way to ornamental iron forms in the arches of the second floor, some of the most incredible examples of precision geometry found in the castle. And the most magnificent feature of all, the inner roof support trusses and the main central arch which are so detailed, yet so massively functional that they boggle the mind. Everywhere one looks something will boggle the mind, such as the fact that the hand railing going up the S.W. corner, named Roy’s Tower, with all of it’s bizarre twists and turns, was hammered cold into it’s highly custom shape!

Perhaps the water cistern is contained inside of this tower.

The Dream Defined

Over the years as the castle grew, more and more people heard about this phenomenon up in the mountains and began showing up in increasing numbers. Friends told Jim that he should be making some money off what was becoming an attraction! Jim felt differently though – he hated it when he was a kid and couldn’t go to the zoo or the ballpark because admission for the whole family was too high for a bunch of working class folks. Since the original idea for a castle came from people visiting the property, Jim figured that if people were welcomed onto the property FOR FREE then he could put out a donation box and people could put in there what they felt comfortable putting in there. The honor system would be the financier! This increased Jim’s feeling of the castle truly being a place of American Freedom. He felt like he worked hard enough down in Pueblo to support the family that he would build as much as the visitors provided for. This has frustrated him at times over the years, wanting to build larger items such as an elevator and not having the funds to do so, but he feels so strongly about the dream being kept intact that he’s even written into legal documents that the Bishop Castle will always remain free as long as it stands. This belief in America being a Free Country made up of Free Persons has fueled his passions in building the castle to represent the American Dream in an undeniably tangible and awe inspiring form!

Enter The Dragon

In the mid 1980’s, a friend of Jim’s was driving a truck full of discarded stainless steel warming plates from the Pueblo County Hospital to the landfill. He decided that Jim could probably put this motherload of expensive stainless steel to better use than the dump could, so dropped it off at the Bishop Ornamental Iron Shop instead. Jim spent the winter building a chimney out of the steel, riveting thousands of hammered “scales” that he had cut out of the plates together around a steel frame. The dragon was completed in the spring and Jim hauled it up the mountain to tackle the daunting task of raising and installing this incredible sculpture to where it rests today, perched off of the front of the Grand Ballroom eighty feet in the air! Later came the addition of a burner from a hot air balloon (that was donated!) which Jim put in the back of the dragons throat, making it a true Fire Breathing Dragon!

Unimaginable Heights Reached

Jim is often told that he must not be afraid of heights! The way he figures it, he began at the bedrock base of the earth and has been gradually building up, so gradual that as the height grew, he was as comfortable with it as with being on the ground. Jim’s experience with the castle has been so intimate, (he’s held EVERY SINGLE STONE IN THERE ON AN AVERAGE OF SIX TIMES), that he’s grown stone by stone as well and doesn’t mind the heights at all. In 1994 Jim reached a point with the square Andreatta tower, named after the family that donated the old school bells that hang in it, where he felt satisfied that it was high enough. That didn’t last long, as in 1995 he built and installed a thirty foot tall steel steeple on top of the masonry, taking the total height to roughly 160 feet! That’s about the size of a 16 story building! Jim has remained satisfied with the overall height of his castle to the present, though he’s recently been threatening to build one of the corner outer wall towers to 250 feet because a local zoning official told him he couldn’t build over 25 and he just added a zero.

Ballroom inside Castle

As It Stands

Today’s visitors to the Bishop Castle will find an impressively monumental statue in stone and iron that cries loud testament to the beauty and glory of not only having a dream, but sticking with your dream no matter what. Most importantly, that if you do believe in yourself and strive to maintain that belief, anything can happen! Three full stories of interior rooms complete with a Grand Ballroom, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a Fire-Breathing Dragon make the Bishop Castle quite the unforgettable experience! Visitors are always welcome FREE of charge, and the castle itself is always OPEN. Please respect this trust and honor while visiting!

  2. wow…just when you think the left can’t get any dumber…the aclu is now declaring women don’t exist. there’s a case in CA–in a women’s prison, women are being raped by MEN caliming to be women–getting pregnant–and so the women filed a lawsuit. aclu claims there is no such thing as women–those men are women with penises. sigh
    FTA
Last year, the Women’s Liberation Front, one of the few remaining feminist groups that have rejected transgender intersectionality’s displacement of women, filed a lawsuit against California’s prison system over housing men who claim to identify as female together with women.

The feminist groups filing the lawsuit noted that, “of the incarcerated men seeking to transfer to women’s prison 33.8% — FULLY ONE THIRD — are registered sex offenders.”

Krystal Gonzalez, one of four women being represented in the lawsuit, reported being sexually assaulted by a man who claimed to be “transgender” in prison. The California penal system however insisted that her male attacker was actually a “transgender woman with a penis.”

The ACLU, along with Lambda Legal and the Transgender Law Center, filed a bizarre motion in response denying that, “‘men as a class’ are defined and differentiated from ‘women as a class’ by their ‘anatomy, genitalia, physical characteristics, and physiology.’”

Are there physiological differences between men and women? Science says there are while the ACLU denies it in what may be one of the most surreal motions ever submitted to a court.

Denying sexual dimorphism is up there with a motion claiming that the earth is flat.

But the ACLU motion went on “to deny the allegation that ‘human beings’ are ‘sexually dimorphic, divided into males and females each with reproductive systems, hormones, and chromosomes that result in significant differences between men[] and women[.]’”

Biology 101 is now an “allegation” to be denied in court.

Maybe the ACLU’s next motion will deny the “allegation” that the earth revolves around the sun.

The civil rights lawsuit the ACLU is fighting uses textbook terminology. Literally. The language of a basic biology textbook is being denied by a former civil rights group fighting against a civil rights suit by a sexual assault victim. The ACLU now hates science, women, and civil rights.

    Not to mention free speech.

Within a decade the ACLU has gone from falsely accusing Republicans of a “War on Women” to waging an actual war on women in court. The ACLU has also switched from claiming that Republicans were tolerating sexual assaults on women to fighting women in court so that male sex offenders can continue to sexually assault them. That’s what a War on Women looks like.

  3. Good morning y’all! Had a productive day at work yesterday. I should have 1 guy back today, so I’ll have to find something to keep us busy…😄. Have a realtor getting ready to list my other lot. They think it will be a good sell since it already has a water meter and septic system on it. Fingers crossed! It will be our seed money for the next place, plus money to finish little things in our current house before we put it on the market.

wow! good luck selling your lot!
i wonder what the market is like for property versus homes. when my son and his new wife were looking for a home, the homes were selling on the spot–at higher than asking. it was getting frustrating for them–they didn’t even get to place a bid on but 2 and then their bids were at selling price and the homes went for over asking price.
but many people were/are looking to get out of NY and they were looking at eastern PA–lotta highways to connect there and NY.

      1. I think I may tripple what I bought my house for in 2014. The lot I bought for 20k and had the old house tore down for 3.8k, a tree had fell on it and that’s why my cousin sold it cheep. The realtor wants to ask 35k for the lot now. Not to bad of a profit. Bought it in 2016 right before the wife and I got married.

  4. abbott and the fda reach agreement so the company can restart production
    FTA
Abbott Laboratories, whose recall of infant formulas made at a Michigan plant has been widely blamed for a nationwide shortage, announced Monday it had reached an agreement with the Food and Drug Administration on the steps needed to restart production — but it will still be weeks before any formula hits store shelves.

Abbott also claimed in its announcement that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had found no “conclusive evidence” linking formulas made at its Sturgis, Mich. facility to the infant illnesses and deaths that triggered the initial recall in February.

Once a court signs off on the deal and the FDA gives the go-ahead to reopen the problem-plagued facility, Abbott could restart formula production within two weeks — though it will still be six to eight weeks before its products become publicly available.

Details of the agreement, known as a consent decree, were not immediately disclosed.

“Our number one priority is getting infants and families the high-quality formulas they need, and this is a major step toward re-opening our Sturgis facility so we can ease the nationwide formula shortage. We look forward to working with the FDA to quickly and safely re-open the facility,” Abbott chairman and CEO Robert B. Ford said in a statement. “We know millions of parents and caregivers depend on us and we’re deeply sorry that our voluntary recall worsened the nationwide formula shortage. We will work hard to re-earn the trust that moms, dads and caregivers have placed in our formulas for more than 50 years.”

  6. Here is the backstory of how I found Bishop Castle, the name of which I didn’t even know until a couple of years ago. I first found it on one last trip to the mountains (before I planned to return to NE before going into the Army in November) in July 1976 from where I lived in Pueblo (I also had a friend who lived in Rye, CO – another long story there, as well as how I got to CO in the first place – when do I NOT have a story?) A “friend with benefits” and I took a pup tent, with a couple of pillows and a blanket and not much else, to camp out over the week-end in the mountains. Sex in a pup tent is NOT easy, let me tell you! Moving on…..

We got caught in a downpour and everything was soaking wet, so we started a fire and stood close to dry our clothes. That was the same week-end that there was a HUGE flood in Squirrel Creek Canyon, which wasn’t all that far from us. As we were tramping around in the woods, we found this tiny little logging road and decided to follow it. That was when we discovered the beginnings of the castle, with the adorable stone cottage. We met Jim and Phoebe Bishop and a couple of their kids. Jim explained what he was doing and told us that, at that time, they had already had visitors from 11 countries who had signed their guest book. Of course, we added our names!

The cottage was gorgeous, with glass windows in wrought iron on all sides, and glass doors. This is where I saw my first hummingbird. Something kept buzzing around my head and I thought it was bumblebees….until we started talking with Jim. The hummers were so comfortable with them, not only would they hover at the door, they would allow them to scoop them into their hands and take them outside.

The castle had barely been started – only 2 floors at that time. He explained that their intent was to rent it out for weddings and such; apparently, they changed their mind about that, altho they do host weddings and other get togethers now. And yes, we DID leave a donation, altho we were both almost broke. It was truly a wonderful experience that I will remember forever.

And now, to see what it has become? Simply amazing!!!!

Brrrr….I was looking for a jello mold – the kind with the hole in the middle? I think that would work well in the caged feeder! But Family Dollar didn’t have any so I’ll add it to my list for WM. Grocery store only had 2 of the bigger jars of the grape jelly. I wish I could get one of those huge jars you can get at Costco. Even WM doesn’t carry them.

We got to talking about the Orioles and Hummers and she hasn’t seen any Orioles so she said, “If you see me driving by your house real slow, I’m looking for the Orioles!” I invited her to come and park in my west driveway and sit and watch them, if she wants.

People from Co, Springs and Denver would fly down to Pueblo to come to our restaurant for the prime rib, known to be some of the best around those parts. I worked for a short period of time as the Hostess/Bar Tender, when I wasn’t working as a Line Hostess landing planes and greeting the passengers.

  9. wolf provides a good explanation of Barnette’s “never said that” explanation—good read from the q tree

OK – I have an explanation of Kathy Barnette and the “Islamophobic Tweet”.

First, read this coverage, including a video and images of the tweet.

    https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/05/never-said-pa-senate-candidate-kathy-barnette-denies-posting-islamophobic-tweets-video/

What the tweet is, is a “Title + Link” from Facebook. You can see that the tweet is the properly capitalized title of an article – very likely a good article – plus a Facebook link on Twitter.

Things like this are often just “click a link” button-pushes to help publicize the article. I know this, because we have these things on WordPress as well – sadly not for Gab or Truth Social, but for Twitter, Facebook, and many others. I have to mess with the programming of these things.

So clearly she was on Facebook, read some enlightening article, and VERY LIKELY clicked a button to publicize it. She may or may not have been aware of the title, but frankly that’s bullshit anyway. She clearly didn’t “self-censor” about some article, worrying about the title, and even if it’s an article with a different viewpoint, there is no reason IMO not to share it.

She likely does’t remember it, but truthfully, it’s not a “composed tweet”, and she literally “never said that”.

    Examples I might click:

“Pedophilia in Islam: No Such Thing” – some liberal whitewash of the pedophilia problem in Islam. Or “Scratch a Gay – Find a Pedophile” – not always true, but pedo is a huge problem in the gay world. There could be great articles with viewpoints I don’t completely agree with, that I want to reference.

I am not responsible for titles of references, and neither is she.

They are SCRATCHING AT STRAWS to go after her, IMO.

  11. THEY broke the peace by ignoring the Minsk agreement since the very beginning and NATO ignoring their many promises to Russia!!!!

EXCERPT: “STOCKHOLM (AP) – Sweden on Tuesday signed a formal request to join NATO, a day after the country announced it would seek membership in the 30-member military alliance. In neighboring Finland, lawmakers are expected later in the day to formally endorse Finnish leaders´ decision also to join.

The moves by the two Nordic countries, ending Sweden´s more than 200 years of military nonalignment and Finland´s nonalignment after World War II, have provoked the ire of the Kremlin.

While most NATO members are keen to welcome the two countries as quickly as possible, Turkey has potentially complicated their accession by saying it cannot allow them to become members because of their perceived inaction against exiled Kurdish militants.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday doubled down on comments last week indicating that the two Nordic countries´ path to NATO would be anything but smooth. All 30 current NATO countries must agree to open the door to new members. He accused the two Nordic countries of refusing to extradite “terrorists” wanted by his country.

In Stockholm, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde (pictured, top) signed the formal request to join the Alliance, which she said would be sent to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. “It feels like we have taken a decision that is the best for Sweden,” she said while signing the document.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto arrived in Sweden for an official two-day visit and was welcomed by Sweden´s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, who had invited him. Niinisto addressed Sweden’s Parliament and said, “we took peace for granted; on Feb. 24 the peace was broken,” in a reference to the date that Ukraine was invaded by Russia.”

  12. Orban standing firm, thankfully!

EXCERPT: “The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy says there is no guarantee that the 27-nation bloc will be able to finalise a new set of sanctions against Russia, with a small group of countries led by Hungary opposing a full oil embargo.

The European Commission proposed a sixth package of sanctions on Russia related to its invasion of Ukraine on May 4th, including a ban on Russian oil imports — but not natural gas imports, on which some bloc’s most influential members, particularly Germany, are heavily reliant.

Hungary is one of a number of landlocked countries that are highly dependent on Russian oil, along with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, with Bulgaria, across the Black Sea from Russia, Russian-annexed Crimea, and Ukraine, also said to have reservations about the move.

In an interview with Hungary’s Kossuth Radio on May 6th, a transcript of which has been seen by Breitbart London, Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán complained that the European Commission — an unelected body which serves as the EU’s executive and the primary initiator of EU-level legislation — had announced its oil embargo scheme “[w]ithout having consulted anyone at prime ministerial level… seeking] to impose a single rule on everyone, without taking account of national interests.”

With respect to said interests, Prime Minister Orbán said a Russian oil embargo would be “tantamount to dropping a nuclear bomb on the Hungarian economy,” drastically increasing the cost of petrol and diesel and causing some industrial production plants to “go bankrupt and close down, causing high unemployment.”

  13. EXCERPT: “The British government is slashing the amount of foreign aid money it routes through international organisations such as the United Nations, outraging leftist politicians and activist charities.

At present, nearly 40 per cent of Britain’s foreign aid budget, still bloated at roughly £11.5 billion — about as much as is spent on the country’s bursting prisons and shuttering law courts combined — despite recent temporary cuts, is doled out “to the UN, the World Bank, European Union, and other global bodies” to spend, and sometimes dubiously, according to the BBC.

That appears to be set to change, however, with the publicly-funded broadcaster reporting that the government intends to cut the share of the foreign aid budget allocated to such organisations to “just” 25 per cent by 2025.

“In an increasingly geopolitical world, we must use development as a key part of our foreign policy,” said Liz Truss, whose Foreign and Commonwealth Office now incorporates the former International Development department responsible for disbursing foreign aid.

“Malign actors treat economics and development as a means of control, using patronage, investment and debt as a form of economic coercion and political power,” she said, in what the BBC said was a reference to the People’s Republic of China — although it was not mentioned by name — using development money to win concessions from and exert influence over poorer countries.”

  14. EXCERPT: “India’s Directorate-General of Foreign Trade banned wheat exports on Friday, causing market prices to skyrocket around the world and prompting expressions of grave concern from humanitarian groups. Only a month ago, Indian officials were boasting of plans to step up and replace lost wheat shipments from the Russia-Ukraine war.

Wheat prices hit a two-month high on Monday as markets reacted to Friday’s surprise announcement, which cited spiking global prices, unexpected shortfalls in production due to hot weather, and India’s concerns over domestic food security to justify banning exports.

“Export will be allowed in case of shipments where an irrevocable letter of credit is issued on or before the date of notification. Export will be allowed on the basis of permission granted by the government of India to other countries to meet their food security needs and based on the request of the governments,” the Indian government notice said.

Only a week ago, Indian Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey downplayed concerns of an export ban, claiming India had a vast surplus stock of wheat despite disappointing production due to a two-month heatwave. Soaring food inflation evidently played a role in making the Indian government change its mind.

The Deccan Herald noted India sent delegations to nine countries to discuss expanding wheat exports only last week. Reuters reported on Monday that India’s export ban was imposed so suddenly that 1.8 million tonnes of grain are trapped at ports. The owners of the grain “may have to re-sell those cargoes into the weaker domestic market, which has been under fresh price pressure since the export ban news emerged.” The owners of the cargo will also incur reloading and transportation costs.”

  16. how lazy and disingenuous can they be? 30 steps is too far to walk? PA County removes ballet drop box

    FTA
Now, instead of placing absentee ballots in the drop box located just three steps inside the door of the county building, voters will have to walk about 30 steps into the building, from the same door, to get to the Board of Elections office where they will hand their ballot directly to one of the workers.

Anyone entering the building beyond the drop box must go through a metal detector manned by the sheriff department. Opponents say this makes voting “too difficult and complex” for voters.

    snip

The introduction of drop boxes was a decision made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lancaster County used a drop box in 2020 and 2021 for COVID-19 mitigation. The drop box was placed near sheriffs handling security for the building, they had an election person watching the box at all times, and it was surveilled by camera.

“Things have changed, COVID is no longer such an issue, we are short staffed,” D’Agostino said. “We can’t have sheriffs doing a job of election staff, and election staff have better things to do than sitting at a box when people aren’t there. They could be sitting at their desk and as people come in, take the ballot. But when they’re not taking ballots, they can be doing other work, so there’s no need, quite frankly, to have that box there anymore.”

  17. courts hand shit-for-brains another loss
    FTA
A federal court has handed the Biden administration another loss over a policy forcing religious employers to go against their consciences.

U.S. District Judge Daniel M. Traynor of the District of North Dakota granted a request by the Christian Employers Alliance (CEA) for an injunction against President Joe Biden’s mandate requiring healthcare providers and religious employers to provide transgender counseling, surgeries, and procedures against their religious beliefs.

Traynor, a Trump appointee, in issuing his injunction on Monday, enjoined the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from interpreting or enforcing the law against CEA “in a manner that would require its present or future members to provide insurance coverage for gender transition services.”

“No government agency ought to be in the business of evaluating the sincerity of another’s religious beliefs,” the court order said.

“HHS Guidance encourages a parent to file a complaint if a medical provider refuses to gender transition their child, of any age, including an infant,” the court order noted further. “The thought that a newborn child could be surgically altered to change gender is the result of the Biden HHS Notification and HHS Guidance that brands a medical professional’s refusal to do so as discrimination.”

  18. Entire Article @ BB: “James O’Keefe’s investigative journalism group Project Veritas recently published undercover footage of Twitter employees proudly admitting that the platform discriminates against conservatives and that many employees are unhappy about a possible takeover by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

In a recently published video by Project Veritas, undercover footage reveals one of Twitter’s senior engineers, Siru Murugesan, discussing how employees at Twitter “hate” Elon Musk and are extremely opposed to free speech. Murugesan further admitted that the website actively moderates conservatives while leftist viewpoints are accepted across the platform.

Discussing Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s attempted takeover of Twitter, Murugesan noted that many of his colleagues have stated that “this would be my last day if it happens.” He noted that many Twitter employees are “stress-eating” and “worried for our jobs.”

Murugesan openly stated: “Our jobs are at stake; he’s a capitalist and we weren’t really operating as capitalists, more like very socialist. We’re all like commie as fuck.” Murugesan noted that a major issue is Musk’s alleged dedication to free speech, a concept that Murugesan says is at odds with most Twitter employees’ values. “Twitter does not believe in free speech,” said Murugesan.

Murugesan claimed that employees at the firm actively attempted to shut down Musk’s takeover, stating: “We did all we could to like revolt against it. A lot of employees were revolting against it, but at the end of the day, the board of directors have the say.”

Murugesan added that he thought the Twitter board “… acted on their best interests ‘cause they didn’t want to get sued…. they’re always looking out for themselves at the end of the day.” Watch the full video from Project Veritas on Rumble here.”

  19. Most of the article: “Karine Jean-Pierre held her first briefing as America’s new press secretary on Monday and melted down into a word blob over two fairly straightforward questions.

“I am a black, gay, immigrant woman. The first of all three of those to hold this position,” Jean-Pierre announced to the press corps Monday. Well, no one of any substance gives a shit about any of that. What we’re mostly interested in is “qualified,” and on that particular virtue, the jury is still out.

Last week, His Fraudulency Joe Biden fired off a ridiculous tweet that claimed (falsely) that raising corporate taxes reduces inflation. It was such a laughable non-sequitur, such a blatant piece of disinformation, that former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos pointed and laughed at it.

Considering all the attention around Biden’s tweet and Bezos’ response, you’d think our new press secretary would have prepared to answer the following question from Fox’s Peter Doocy: “How does raising taxes on corporations lower the cost of gas, the cost of a used car, the cost of food, for everyday Americans?”

Jean-Pierre’s response was so painful to watch, you might want to break it into a few parts…
    —————–
For the lulz, here’s the transcript, and I swear it’s not the Q&A from a local beauty pageant… (WTH are lulz anyway??)

JEAN-PIERRE: Look, you know, we have talked about, uhm, we have talked this about this past year. Ah, about, uhm, making sure that the wealthiest among us are paying their fair share. Uhm, and that is important to do and, ah, that is something that, ah, you know, the president has been, you know, working on every day — when we talk about inflation and lowering costs. And so, it’s very important, ah, that, ah, you know, as we’re seeing costs rise, ah, and we’re talking about how to, you know, ah, you know, build an America that’s safe that’s equal for everyone and doesn’t leave anyone behind; that is an important part of that, as well.

DOOCY: But how does raising taxes on corporations lower the cost of gas, the cost of a used car, the cost of food for everyday Americans?

JEAN-PIERRE: Well, look, I think [reads briefing book] we encourage those who have done very well, especially those who care about climate change [which is a hoax] to support a fairer tax code that doesn’t change — that doesn’t charge manufacturers, workers, cops, builders a higher percentage of their earnings, that the most fortunate people in our nation, and not let that stand in the way of reducing energy costs and fighting this existential problem. If you think about that as an example. And to support basic collective bargaining rights, as well, right? That’s also important. But look, it is — by not — without having a fairer tax code, which is what I’m talking about, then, all, everything, manufacturing workers, cops, you know, it’s not fair for them to have to pay higher taxes then the folks who are, who are not paying taxes at all.

DOOCY: But what does that have to do with inflation? The president said ‘you want to bring down inflation, let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.’ Jeff Bezos came out and tweeted that the President’s newly created Disinformation Board should review this tweet. Would you be okay with that?

JEAN-PIERRE: Look, it’s not a huge mystery why one of the world’s wealthiest individuals on earth [sic], right, opposes economic agenda [sic] that is for the middle class, that cuts some of the biggest costs families face, fights inflation for the long haul, right? And that’s what we’re talking about. That’s what we’re talking about lowering inflation here, and adds to the historic deficit reduction the president is achieving by asking the richest taxpayers and corporations to pay their fair share. That is what we’re talking about.

In Miss Cherry Blossom’s defense, there was no way to answer Doocy’s question. Raising taxes does not decrease inflation. In fact, raising taxes increases inflation. If you raise taxes on corporations, they pass those taxes on to us in the form of higher prices (i.e., inflation) as the cost of doing business goes up.”
    —————–
DOOCY: How come the President is visiting Buffalo after a senseless tragedy there, but he couldn’t visit Waukesha after six were killed and 61 injured in an attack on a Christmas parade there?

JEAN-PIERRE: I mean, he’s visited many communities. Buffalo — he was — we — you know, he was — he’s able to go tomorrow to Buffalo, ah, ha, before the trip. That is something that was important for him to do. But he has visited many — many other communities. This is not — Buffalo is not the first community, sadly, that he has to go up to because of a violent attack. So, you know, that’s not — that’s not the first one. So he’s been to many others, sadly.

We all know why Biden ignored Waukesha and is demagoguing about Buffalo. Democrats and their fascist media allies couldn’t blame Republicans for Waukesha, a massacre involving a black suspect who appears to have deliberately targeted white people. There’s no political upside in Waukesha, so Democrats and the media dropped it. With the massacre in Buffalo, these fascists can try to blame and silence their critics.

Miss Cherry Blossom’s first impression was straight out of a sitcom.”

  20. EXCERPT: “Confidence among home builders in the U.S. lurched downward as inflation took its toll and home affordability continued to plunge. The National Association of Home Builders said that its housing market index, which measures the sentiment of builders of single-family homes, plunged eight points to a score of 69 in May, the lowest level since June of 2020.

This is the fifth straight month of deteriorating sentiment. Economists had predicted a milder notching down to 75 from 77. The NAHB said the plunge was a sign that the housing market is now slowing. Housing leads the business cycle and housing is slowing,” said NAHB Chairman Jerry Konter, a builder and developer from Savannah, Ga.

Home builders have been hit by inflation in the costs of building materials, shortages of some materials, a tight labor market, and rising interest rates making homes less affordable to buyers.

“The housing market is facing growing challenges,” said NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz. “Building material costs are up 19 percent from a year ago, in less than three months mortgage rates have surged to a 12-year high and based on current affordability conditions, less than 50 percent of new and existing home sales are affordable for a typical family. Entry-level and first-time home buyers are especially bearing the brunt of this rapid rise in mortgage rates.”

All three components of the index declined. The index measuring traffic of prospective buyers fell nine points to 52. The index measuring current sales conditions dropped eight points to 78. The gauge of sales expectations six months from now crashed 10 points to 63.

Mortgage rates have moved sharply higher this year as the Fed tightens monetary policy in an effort to bring inflation back under control. The average rate of the 30-year fixed rate mortgage started the year at 3.29 percent and was up to 5.55 percent at the start of May. A record share of Americans say now is not a good time to buy a home. According to a Gallup poll taken in April, just 30 percent of Americans say now is a good time to buy a home, down 23 points from a year ago and the first time the share has dropped below 50 percent since Gallup began polling the question in 1978.”

  22. Entire article @ BB: “Politico reports that Biden and his White House team will use Saturday’s Buffalo grocery store shooting to push for confirmation of ATF director nominee Steve Dettelbach.

Biden nominated Dettelbach in early April and the Hill pointed out that Dettelbach was Obama’s Harvard Law School classmate. Moreover, the Daily Mail observed that Dettelbach espoused support for various gun controls during an “unsuccessful” bid to become attorney general of Ohio in 2018. The Mail explained that Dettelbach “has called for an assault weapons ban and universal background checks.”

Dettelbach also opposes allowing teachers to be armed for classroom defense, even in situations where the teacher is former law enforcement. But Politico claims that Biden will use the Buffalo shooting to push for Dettelbach’s confirmation and that he will do so by “spotlighting [Dettelbach’s] record overseeing prosecutions in cases involving racially-motivated violence.”

On Monday, White House spokesman Mike Gwin said, “It’s our hope that the Senate swiftly confirms Steve Dettelbach to lead ATF — particularly given his track record of prosecuting hate crimes — so Dettelbach can help the Bureau redouble their work fighting domestic terrorism and gun crime.”

  23. EXCERPT: “A Virginia mother is suing her son’s school district over its implementation of a Critical Race Theory (CRT) curriculum that she says radically changed his outlook on race and his own identity, Fox News reported. Melissa Riley is suing the Albemarle County School Board over its “anti-racism” policy that she believes completely shifted her biracial son’s outlook on race, she told “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Monday.

“We didn’t have issues before,” Riley told Watters. “He is in eighth grade. He’s seeing himself just as a black man. He’s seeing things that don’t go his way as racism. And he is finding safety in numbers now.”

CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies.

Riley is one of the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against Albemarle County School Board by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) in December over the CRT and “anti-racism” ideology. She said her son started using “racism” as an “excuse because they (school district) have told him that that’s how people see him, as a black man, that the world is against and [he] sees it as a negative now.”

“I asked him to clean the house, [he said] ‘racism,’” she told Watters. “They have totally changed his perspective. They have put him in a box.” Riley’s attorney, Ryan Bangert, told Watters that the school district is fighting back, but is not denying what they are teaching students because “they simply think it’s fine.”

The USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Ronald Reagan carrier strike groups, the USS America expeditionary strike group, as well as the USS Tripoli are operating in and around Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines, according to the U.S. Naval Institute fleet tracker.

The exercise marks the first time two America-class ships, the USS America and USS Tripoli, have operated in the Asia-Pacific region at the same time, according to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s translation of China’s Observer News.

Though the USS America and USS Tripoli are capable of carrying helicopters and fighter jets upon their flight decks, and thus resemble small aircraft carriers, the ships are classified as “amphibious assault ships,” according to a Navy profile. Amphibious assault ships are configured to support land-based operations, whereas aircraft carriers are optimized to dominate naval and air encounters, according to RealClear Defense.

The arrival of the U.S. Navy warships near China comes just a week after the USS Port Royal, a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, was shadowed by China’s Eastern Theater Command while conducting a freedom of navigation exercise through the Taiwan Strait on May 10. The USS Port Royal’s trip came in response to the Chinese military surrounding Taiwan to the east and southwest between May 6 and 8 in a “rehearsal” for a “reunification-by-force” operation.”

Speaking at the commencement address Saturday, Lummis said constitutional rights were being threatened and “even fundamental scientific truths such as the existence of two sexes, male and female, are subject to challenge these days.” Lummis’ remarks were immediately met with a barrage of “boos” from the crowd.

“You know, I -” Lummis began to say. “I challenge those of you. I’m not making a comment on the fact that there are people who transition between sexes.”

The university’s president, Ed Seidel, later released a statement condemning the remarks without directly naming Lummis. “One of our speakers made remarks regarding biological sex that many on campus take issue with. While we respect the right of all to express their views, from students to elected officials, we unequivocally state that UW is an institution that supports and celebrates its diverse communities that collectively make us the wonderful place that we are.”

Lummis later issued an apology, Oil City News first reported. “My reference to the existence of two sexes was intended to highlight the times in which we find ourselves, times in which the metric of biological sex is under debate with potential implications for the shared Wyoming value of equality,” the statement, obtained by the Daily Caller, read.

“I share the fundamental belief that women and men are equal, but also acknowledge that there are biological differences and circumstances in which these differences need to be recognized,” Lummis continued. “That being said, it was never my intention to make anyone feel un-welcomed or disrespected, and for that I apologize. I have appreciated hearing from members of the University of Wyoming community on this issue, and I look forward to continuing this dialogue.”

Carlson first criticized Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell who said NATO expansion would be beneficial. Carlson then insinuated Kyiv, might not be as dangerous as Republicans and Democrats want Americans to believe while playing a video of McConnell visiting the area.

“You may be wondering, how do you walk around a war zone like that? Isn’t it dangerous? We don’t know the answer,” Carlson asked. “It’s certainly interesting.” Carlson said Americans may be confused as to why Congress is so worried about Ukraine when there is a baby formula shortage, gas prices are through the roof and the economy is “declining rapidly.”

“Why is Congress so focused on Ukraine but you can’t find baby formula?” Carlson said. “According to Congressman Dan Crenshaw of Texas, asking questions like that, or really any questions at all, thinking you are a citizen, makes you ‘pro-Russia.’”

Carlson then played a recent clip between Crenshaw and Fox News’ Trey Gowdy, during which Crenshaw slammed Republicans who do not support arming Ukraine as “pro-Russia.” Crenshaw also claimed that $40 billion in aid the U.S. would give to Ukraine wouldn’t be useful in solving the baby formula issue in the states because it’s “not a money issue it’s a manufacturing issue.”

Former Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard then joined the show, with both Gabbard and Carlson arguing Congress should not rush aid to Ukraine or expand NATO. “There is no imminent threat, or even long-term threat of Russia invading Finland or Sweden,” Gabbard said. “Russia can barely hold on to a very small sliver of Ukraine right now.”

“You know, the more I think about it, it takes a lot of gall for eyepatch McCain to attack moms who are worried about baby formula as ‘pro-Russia’.”

Entire article @ DC: “Members of the rock band Pearl Jam made a teenager’s dream come true Friday when they offered him a chance to fill in for drummer Matt Cameron during a concert at the Oakland Arena in California.

When Cameron contracted COVID-19, the band secured former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer and Oakland drummer Richard Stuverud as replacements, but a chance encounter inspired the band to invite a local teenager to play one song with them, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The band invited 18-year-old Kai Neukermans to share the stage after Neukermans reached out to frontman Eddie Vedder’s daughter by text message. He had saved her number after meeting her at a music festival in 2018, according to the outlet.

Neukermans told her he was up for the task of filling in on stage, but he didn’t think anything would actually come of it, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. “It was a last-minute thing, and I didn’t think it was going to work out,” he said.

The band reportedly asked Neukermans to share a video of his drumming skills with them, and the Tamalpais High School senior said he left school early in order to prepare a recording of “Mind Your Manners” from the 2013 Pearl Jam album “Lightning Bolt,” according to the San Fransisco Chronicle. The tour manager for the band then invited the teen to the stadium, and arrangements were made for him to perform a song with Pearl Jam, reported the outlet.”

In front of an arena full of screaming fans, Vedder announced Neukermans to the stage, and the young man rose to the occasion for the epic experience, according to the outlet. “Everybody, this is Kai. Kai, this is everybody,” Vedder said in a video posted to YouTube. “We’re ready when you are. You’re leading the band, brother.”

The video shows Neukermans rocking out to “Mind Your Manners” as the crowd cheered him and the band on with enthusiasm. “My heart started racing when everyone started screaming and my heart skipped a beat,” Neukermans said, according to Page Six. “I tried to stay as focused as possible and watch the other band members and just tried not to look at the crowd because it was freaking me out.”

“When Kyle Rittenhouse, the 18-year-old who shot and killed two people during the unrest last year in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was lauded as a hero by many, and the majority of white adults said nothing, that sent students a message,” the blog continued. “When states legislate that the discussion of race and racism in schools is unlawful, and the majority of white adults say nothing, that sends a message. When books are banned and certain histories are omitted from public school curricula, and the majority of white adults say nothing, that sends a message.”

In a Twitter post, Chandler-Ward called on educators to model “white antiracism to white kids.”

  31. EXCERPT: “The Daily Caller News Foundation and reporter Thomas Catenacci scored a legal victory against Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Monday after her office agreed to drop its policy of racial discrimination against journalists.

Conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch sued Lightfoot on behalf of TheDCNF after she announced she would only take one-on-one interviews from “black and brown” journalists May 18, 2021. Her office did not respond to a May 20 interview request or two subsequent follow-up emails from Catenacci, who is white.

Lightfoot denied Catenacci’s request by “failing to respond in a timely manner,” the lawsuit argued, noting that Lightfoot was aware that Catenacci is “not a journalist of color.”

TheDCNF agreed to dismiss the suit after Lightfoot’s communications director said their office had no plans to exclusively provide interviews to journalists of color in the future in sworn testimony March 3. This was a dramatic turnaround from a July interview after the lawsuit was filed in which Lightfoot told The New York Times she would “absolutely” racially discriminate again.

Lightfoot’s office reiterated that their policy would no longer include racial discrimination in a legal filing.”
