That’s GARBAGE!

Garbage is an easy to learn card game for 2 or more players using a standard 52 card deck. The object is to get your cards in a specific sequence. To begin, shuffle the deck.

The dealer deals 10 cards to each player (if 3 or more people are playing, 2 decks will be required). The players then place their cards face down in 2 rows, and the dealer puts the remaining cards in a pile in the middle. This is called the GARBAGE pile. The top card is placed face up creating the discard pile.

The first player to make a move is the player immediately to the dealer’s left. They will either draw the top card off the draw pile or use the card in discard pile. If the card is between an Ace and a ten, they will place it face up in the corresponding spot in the layout before them. For example, if they draw a five, it would be placed on the fifth spot in the layout.

Then, the player would turn over that first card that is being “replaced” by the card they just drew. It would be moved accordingly, if possible. So, if you flip over the fifth card in the lineup and have a ten, you would move that ten to the tenth spot and continue.

This continues until the player reveals a number already face-up in the line-up or until they draw a Jack or a King. The Jacks and Kings are garbage and end up in the discard pile. That signifies the end of a turn.

The Queens are wildcards and can replace any face-down card in the layout. If a Queen is being used as a wildcard and the player reveals the correct card for that wildcard spot, the card can replace the wildcard. Then, the wild card can be moved to another spot. When a move is no longer possible, the last card a player has is placed in the pile and the game moves onto the next player.

no, not THESE queens!

A player wins when the cards are all face-up and in sequential order from Ace to ten, with any Queens in the appropriate wildcard slots. At this point, the player wins the round.

In this next round, the cards are reshuffled and dealt again. The player who won the previous round is dealt one less card than the round before.

For example, if this is the second round and the first layout of ten was just cleared, the winner of the round would be dealt nine cards instead of ten. Every other player receives the same number of cards they had in the previous round.

Being dealt one less card makes it just slightly easier for the player to clear their layout. Instead of going Ace to ten, they will now only need to go Ace to nine. This continues until a player is down to one card in the layout.

The final win occurs when a player is down to just one card and is able to clear it with an Ace or a wildcard. There are many variations in this game–some prefer to use Kings as wildcards, some allow every player a final turn after the winning player completes their turn.

My granddaughter taught us this game several years ago and it has become a family favorite. So much so that the Garbage Champion is a much contested opinion. I believe myself to be the champion while my granddaughter believes herself to be the champion.

To settle the disagreement, I have challenged her to a championship match and fashioned a Garbage Trophy to boot!

I’ll update when a winner is determined!

UPDATE: The Garbage Championship was played this weekend. My granddaughter won the first 2 rounds…I came back defiantly and won the next 2 rounds…so it came down to the final round! We were neck and neck, but in the end she finally beat me!

She’s taken the trophy home to put proudly on her trophy shelf, with an offer to let me take another crack at her at Christmas! Challenge accepted!!

we had great weather Friday for cutting down and splitting 3 trees. Saturday the kids went to the Finger Lakes to wine taste, and we took our granddaughter shopping and it rained all day…but it was okay. Yesterday though the snow was a pain. Granddaughter was not a happy camper searching for eggs in the snow…LOL

they got her recipes and handed them out to any who wanted to make something…my daughter got macaroni salad.
she said there are no amounts listed–just ingredients…LOL…
and she was stumped by this line…”mayo or salad dressing”. she asked me which salad dressing did i think it was? italian? ranch?
                I said probably Miracle Whip.

  3. disney has a disgusting history with sexual perverts
    FTA
We do know that Disney has a history of exposing their young actors to convicted child molesters. Brian Peck served 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of molesting a Nickelodeon child actor. One year after his release, Disney hired him to work on the children’s series, “Yay, Me! Starring London Tipton” and “The Suite Life of Zak and Cody.” Victor Salva served 15 months in jail for raping and videotaping a boy who was acting in a film he directed. Nevertheless, Disney hired him to direct the film Powder.

And then there’s the case of James Gunn, the hugely successful writer-director of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films. Disney fired Gunn in 2018 after his disgusting sexual tweets about young boys prompted an outcry. Disney’s honcho publicly proclaimed that Gunn’s tweets were “inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.” But that didn’t last long. A few months later, Disney quietly rehired Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3, after various stars of the series wrote an open letter begging for Gunn to come back. So much for studio values.

I commented yesterday on the post about fertilizer, but I think it needs to be restated again.

The most significant part of the post was not the fertilizer. but was the loss of DEF fluid. Without DEF fluid there are no
trucks to deliver to walmart, no gas delivered to the gas station, no tractor in the field to plant so no need for fertilizer.

    Simply put, everything stops.

I drive a 2016 ram diesel that requires def. It has doubled in price, and is hard to come by. Every Walmart or auto parts store I stop at I look for it. I’ve been stocking up on it. Luckily my truck is the 3L little diesel so I only use 5 gallons every 8-10k miles. Bigger, non-tuned trucks will use a lot more….

    1. Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

DEF, or Diesel Exhaust Fluid, is the reduction agent used in Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) aftertreatment
systems. It is a mixture of 32.5% urea and pure (de-ionized) water, and has the following characteristics: ñ Nontoxic and Nonpolluting ñ Nonflammable ñ Stable and Colorless ñ Weak Ammonia Smell ñ Slightly Alkaline ~ pH 9.0 ñ Freezes at Approximately -11°C [12°F] ñ 9.2 lbs/gallon

Approved DEF is available through Navistar via the FleetriteÆ brand (G-19-9251-B) and the Fleetguard Air
Shieldô brand (G-19-9280-A). It is also available at many public locations.

NOTE: Although DEF freezes at ~ 12°F, Navistar vehicles using DEF are equipped with component heaters for
cold weather operation. No additional operator interaction is required.

      Specification:

DEF must meet the International Standard ISO 22241-1 for diesel engines. There is no acceptable substitute.
For engines using SCR and operating in the United States or Canada, it is also strongly recommended that the
DEF used be certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API). This would be indicated by a symbol on the
      container/dispensing system, as shown.

        2. “DEF technology has been used for decades in the country in agriculture, industrial and large scale power generation applications. The concept is the same across the board: the urea mixed with heat creates ammonia that causes a chemical reaction that reduces NOx by 70%-95%. In fact 90% of urea production is used as nitrogen-released fertilizer. It is important to note that automotive-grade urea is of a much higher grade purity than fertilizer urea. If a lower grade fertilizer urea is used in automotive engines you risk disintegration of the SCR and possible ruin the engine. It may even trigger ECM sensors to incorrectly prompt a DEF Tank Empty warning.”

    2. EXCERPT: “The Environmental Protection Agency was created in the footsteps of the Clean Air Act of 1970. For 46 years the EPA has been constantly evolving and enacting laws to address the environmental needs of this country. For many years owners of three-quarter and one-ton light duty pickup trucks enjoyed no additional smog equipment on their vehicles. All of that changed in 2008 with the EPA required the use of diesel particulate filters on all three-quarter-ton and larger trucks as well as required biannual smog tests which included a visual inspection of the vehicle to make sure the DPF parts were still on the truck. In 2010 the regulations got even tighter.

Many thought that the era of big power and torque were over and vowed to never purchase a new truck ever again. However, something spectacular happened and the complete opposite thing occurred. It turns out that Americans truly do adapt and overcome. Every one of the manufacturers figured out a way to cut down on the NOx levels all the while making more horsepower and torque than ever before. Innovation is bread out of strife.

The engineering breakthrough came through the use of the selective catalytic reduction. The vast majority of these systems use diesel exhaust fluid (mixture of urea and deionized water) sprayed into the exhaust system to break down the generated NOx into harmless nitrogen and water molecules. Since the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is introduced in the exhaust, also called after-treatment technology, the manufacturer is free to build as much power as they want. The DEF is stored in a separate tank which is insulated and heated and is marked by a blue filler cap.

Still there are two factions of diesel guys out there; those who have accepted to the EPA changes and those who are still vehemently against any regulations whatsoever despite the work around technological advancements. For those not willing to accept the changes there has been a shift to older used diesel engines or remanufactured diesel engines that have been grandfathered in. This article aims to go over the cold hard facts about DEF and educate the populace into making smarter diesel operator decisions.

      1. What exactly is Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)?

From a strictly chemical disposition DEF is a mixture of 67.5% deionized water and 32.5% urea. Urea is a compound in Nitrogen that turns to ammonia when heated and is used in a variety of industries. Urea is technically derived from a byproduct of urine but for mass production purposes it is synthetically made. Most DEF products are regulated by the American Petroleum Institute. Lets take a look at the science behind DEF when mixed with exhaust. Chemically, DEF is firstly comprised of (NH2)2CO; and when injected into the hot exhaust gas the water evaporates leaving ammonia and isocyanic acid.”

  7. EXCERPT: “French bishops are not expected to direct worshippers on how to vote in the French presidential elections as more and more Roman Catholics have become supporters of populist challenger Marine Le Pen.

French Roman Catholic bishops have a long history of advising their worshippers on how to vote in elections but, for the 2022 French presidential election, they are expected to remain silent.

In 2002, when Jean-Marie Le Pen, father of presidential hopeful leader Marine Le Pen, challenged Jacques Chirac in the second round of that year;s presidential election, bishops were public in their opposition to him — but La Croix editor-in-chief Isabelle de Gaulmyn says bishops are now silent as a growing number of Catholics support his daughter.

“What has changed? Probably first of all the Catholics themselves. Like the rest of society, many of them vote for far-right parties. This is new. Moreover, still like society, they are divided and the bishops fear to break this fragile unity a little more,” Ms de Gaulmyn wrote in an opinion editorial.

According to the newspaper Le Figaro, the French Catholic vote has migrated toward the right and in the first round of the presidential vote 40 per cent of Catholics voted for Ms Le Pen, conservative writer and pundit Eric Zemmour, or right-wing candidate Nicholas Dupont-Aignan.

In contrast, President Emmanuel Macron scored 29 per cent of the Catholic vote.”

  8. Entire article @ BB: “A 94-year-old World War II-era veteran from New Jersey lost his home in a fire last month, but loving neighbors and a tidal wave of online donors from all over the country are working on getting him back on his feet.

New Jersey native Paul Roberts was born in 1927, spending his formative years living through the Great Depression and World War II, a GoFundMe page for the veteran, created by his neighbor Erin Obermeyer, states. At 17-years-old, he pleaded with his mother to allow him to leave school and enlist in the Marine Corps.

By the time he finished boot camp, the war had ended, and he never saw action, although, at the time, he wished he did, according to his crowdfunding page. He was deployed to ground zero of Nagasaki, Japan, following the dropping of the atomic bombs.

After his time in the service ended, he worked as a mailman until retiring in the 1980s and then settled into his Ship Bottom home, WPVI-TV reported. He is a fixture in his neighborhood, often seen riding his bike or taking a stroll. “He’s the whole neighborhood,” Erin Obermayer’s father, Richard Obermayer, told WPVI-TV. “He’s like the mayor.”

Last month, on March 14, tragedy struck. “I seen smoke coming in the bathroom door,” Roberts recounted to WPVI-TV. “I took one breath and I knew right away I would never take a second breath and live.”

The veteran escaped the fire, making it out with just the underwear he was wearing, WNBC reported. The man who fondly referred to him as “the mayor” was ready to help immediately. Obermayer, a retired New York City fireman, gathered a pair of pants and a shirt for Roberts, WPVI-TV noted. Obermayer said the garb did not fit too well but was glad he could provide his neighbor with clothes, noting he knew Roberts would do the same for him.

Erin established the GoFundMe page, which had raised $137,360 of a $150,000 goal as of Sunday evening, thanks to more than 3100 donations. “We had no idea it was going to blow up the way it did. It’s just amazing – people all over the country,” Richard told WNBC. Moreover, neighbors and members of the community have pitched in to purchase new clothes for Roberts while also giving the veteran numerous gift cards.

The Black Whale Bar and Fish House in Beach Haven hosted a dinner on April 11 to fundraise for the veteran, owner Melanie Magaziner told WPVI-TV. “There’s a lot of good people in this world, I found out. I don’t know what I would have done without them,” Roberts told WPVI-TV. “I appreciate everything. God bless you all.”

  9. Entire article @ FB: “A Washington Free Beacon report last week from our colleague Charles Lehman put data behind what we all know to be true: that the media harp on violence carried out by whites and downplay it when the perpetrator is black—or should we say “Black.”

That report went up on Thursday, the day after police arrested the black nationalist who gunned down 13 people in a Brooklyn subway station. His race—and his professed bigotry against whites and Jews—were either excluded from media reports entirely or described in an anodyne way. The New York Times described his “harshly bigoted views”—against whom, they could not say.

Then came the release of video from a police shooting in Grand Rapids, Mich., an incident with a white “perpetrator” and a black victim. Video shows 26-year-old Patrick Lyoya fleeing from the unidentified officer before grabbing for the officer’s taser. The two struggle on the ground before the officer fatally shoots Lyoya.

The incident became the subject of wall-to-wall news coverage, with the New York Times, the Washington Post, and CNN referring to Lyoya as an “unarmed Black man”—even though he had grabbed the cop’s taser.

Add to that the media’s uncritical promulgation of the grieving family’s claim that Lyoya was “killed like an animal” and family lawyer Benjamin Crump’s characterization of the incident as an “execution.” Crump pushed his claim on air with MSNBC’s racial agitator Al Sharpton, who is set to deliver the eulogy this week. It’s no wonder Michiganders spent the weekend protesting. (The press apparently doesn’t use pompous fact-checking clauses like “claimed without evidence” unless it’s former president Donald Trump or one of his allies who’s doing the talking.)

The coverage of the Grand Rapids shooting was so over-the-top that the sober commentary offered by a former cop, Baltimore’s Anthony Barksdale, seemed almost out of place. “When you have an individual … trying to take control—or has control—of the officer’s equipment, especially a taser, then lethal force is the next level above a taser,” Barksdale told CNN. “The test is, what would a reasonable officer do? The issues with the taser, I could see lethal force being used by this officer.”

The hysterical media coverage of the incident is surely being consumed by the next subway shooter out there, whose motivations will then be dutifully buried in paragraph 21 of the New York Times report on the tragedy, if they get a mention at all.”

  10. EXCERPT: “Democrats are blocking Republican efforts to upload the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop in a searchable digital format into the congressional record, the Daily Caller has confirmed.

House Judiciary Committee Democratic staff, which is responsible for entering documents into the record, is refusing to upload the laptop by citing technological limitations. Instead, they’re forcing Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz’s office to print hard copies and PDF-form documents of pages. Democrats maintained the stonewall even after Gaetz’s office offered to provide the proper equipment to enable the digital file transfer, the Daily Caller has learned.

Gaetz initially moved to enter the laptop during a March 29 hearing, but committee chairman Jerry Nadler of New York prepared to object to Gaetz’s request. Nadler ultimately relented after conferring with a committee lawyer. However, staffers he appointed are refusing to facilitate a file transfer.

Instead, the staffers demanded that Gaetz’s staff provide printed or PDF form documents of pages that could then be uploaded into the record, a Republican staffer with knowledge of the situation told the Daily Caller. The move forced Gaetz’s office to expend its own resources creating copies, even though House rules dictate that committee staff is responsible for uploading record entries.

Democratic staffers justified the request by claiming that the House Judiciary Committee did not have the technology to digitally enter the laptop in its entirety into the record, the Daily Caller learned. Although Gaetz’s office offered to provide a computer to majority staff to upload the documents, Democratic staffers declined, the Republican staffer said.”

  13. EXCERPT: “Time to tighten up on the teachers as a prelude to tightening up on useless public employee across the government.

    Step One:

Stop pretending teachers are, as a group, people worthy of our special respect and deference. Everyone had some great teachers. I remember a couple who made a difference for me. Neither was a pinko with delusions of genderfluidity. But let’s face it – most teachers are undistinguished time-serving hacks who drone along awaiting their pension. When I think of teachers, I remember the middle school math teacher I saw stagger out of the bar half in the bag at the Denny’s I worked at. Yeah, the early eighties were lit – bars in Denny’s!

As a group, “educators” are not smarter than us, and their track record of actually educating is a trainwreck. Do you think kids today are better educated than they were 40 or even 20 years ago? Maybe in terms of pronouns and privilege, but not in anything that’s not nonsense. For too long we gave teachers the benefit of the doubt. No longer. Now we need to give them orders and ultimatums.

    Step Two:

Ban teachers’ unions. Public employee unions are a disaster anyway, but teachers’ unions are the worst. One lib teacher whining is insufferable. Hundreds of thousands banding together and funding the Democrats in return for influence is an apocalypse. It gives the worst people the most power over the most important thing – our kids’ future. Exhibit A: The COVID madness, in which the laziness and paranoia of unionized teachers stole years of our kids’ lives. Put overpaid grifters like Randi Weingarten and the rest of her poisonous ilk out of a job, permanently.

    Step Three:

When they called you a “terrorist” for participating in democracy, they gave the game away. Activism works. Now we need to take it to the next level by not just going to school board meetings but by running for the school board. And we have to withstand the lies and slanders when we act. Ban CRT. Ban gender weirdness. Ban grooming behavior. Get rid of porn and propaganda. Impose pro-family, pro-American curricula in place of the Marxist dross masquerading as education nowadays. They will scream and they will shout. They will call you “Nazis,” “racists,” and “transphobes.” But guess what? They are already calling you “Nazis,” “racists,” and “transphobes.” Ignore their howls and protests; fire those who will not conform. Be ruthless – for your kids’ sake.

    Step Four:

It’s not enough to clean out the current crap. We need to go old school in the schools. Emphasize that the purpose of public education is not to provide a platform for damaged people to perform their creepy vignettes. It is to teach and create good citizens. Mandate slacks, jackets, and ties for men, and slacks/dresses for women – and no, there will be no cross-dressing on campus. Nor rainbow hair colors nor studs through noses nor any other weird stuff. Our teachers are not getting paid to express themselves but to express what is normal. All that weird stuff is narcissism and attention-seeking, and that attention goes to precisely the wrong people. The people who should get attention in schools are the kids.

    Step Five:

Stay Involved. When the high tide of this trend hits and the waters of weirdness starts to recede, we will be tempted to go back to not paying attention. Nope. Watch them like hawks. We need to stay activated to clean-out the abscess that is our education system and make sure the woke infection never returns.

This is what democracy looks like – the citizens telling the government what to do no matter how sad it makes the government flunkies. And when they oppose us, it only reaffirms that the left hates democracy.”

    1. my liberal teacher daughter wants to go back to on line teaching…she can’t wait. she put all her lessons on the computer and now she can (her words) COAST if they ever have to go on line again…
she would prefer not having to see the kids and deal with them in person.

I just shook my head…she said you don’t know what they’re like. I said…so quit if it’s so bad.
oh no…she said, i put my time in. i DESERVE the money and the perks at this point.

      1. Man! That is just soooo disgusting……my a-Mom was far from perfect, no doubt, but one thing every single person who ever knew her would admit is that she was about THE best 1-2nd grade teacher ever! She would be simply appalled!!!!

        1. I agree!
the privilege is high in my daughter that’s for sure.
The teachers are not allowed to be out of the school during their lunch periods unless they secure special permission from the principal. my daughter and her teacher friend go walking every day at lunch–because she told the principal they need that allotted time to plan student council events. and if they do it in school, the kids will try to talk to them and it’s distracting.
I gave her my oh really look and she shrugged–hey he bought it…not my problem.
          she is a Karen unfortunately

    1. Interesting……US Army vet!!!

Entire article: “If you’ve been reading my posts for awhile, you’ll know I’m not a fan of either Dr. Oz or David McCormick for Pennsylvania GOP Senate nominee. Despite Trump’s endorsement of Oz, but him and McCormick are big government, puppets of Communist China and would really be no better than Pat Toomey. Kathy Barnette would be my pick for US Senate, and she’s suddenly gaining substainly on both RINOs Oz and McCormick according to the latest Trafalgar poll.

Barnett is previous polls was only in the single digits. Now, she’s approaching 20% with both RINOs paying millions to smear each other. Go Kathy!

  14. I always liked that Colonel MacGregor, who is often used by Fox, Newsmax and others as a military analyst. But it’s interesting listening to the difference in tone and nuance from his appearance on Marc Levin’s show last night and to the video I just watched @ QT from a Newsmax appearance. BIG difference!!!!

On Levin, he was very positive about Ukraine; in this one, the opposite is the case. Along the lines of “…the Ukrainian troops are dwindling, only 60K at most, with only enough ammo for a few weeks, surrounded by Russian troops as well as many civilians who are also Russian, Russia will avoid civilian casualties but WILL annihilate the Ukrainian troops, ” etc., etc.

  16. group of businesses and residents sue Philly over mask mandate…finally
    FTA
A group of business owners and several residents in Philadelphia are pushing back against the city’s indoor mask mandate. The group filed a lawsuit over the weekend claiming the city does not have the authority to reimpose a mandate, which went into effect Monday.

This comes after city officials reinstated masks for public indoor spaces while citing a rise in new COVID cases. The suit claims the city is not following CDC standards, which does not recommend mandating masks.
