Personal 2 Minutes

In 2008, I was living with HB and SIL in a house in Manassas, VA on a major roadway with a lot of traffic, although it was only a two-lane road. It was Christmas but it was unseasonably warm that year. HB and SIL were watching TV and, of course, I was sitting at my computer, which was directly in front of a window.

All of a sudden, I heard a loud crash and looked up to see that an SUV had crashed into a tree across the street. It hit the tree and bounced back; I saw the driver’s door open and a man got out, with an obvious leg injury – he fell up against the SUV and kind of rolled down the side of it towards the front of the vehicle.

By the time I got up and went to the door, I could no longer see him. Behind the house across the street was a large wooded area – there was a driveway running down the side of the house towards the back. We called 911 to report it and then we all trooped outside to look; a woman had pulled over into our driveway so we chatted with her while we waited.

Within 5 or 10 minutes, the cops arrived and began searching for the driver, who was nowhere to be found. They told us the SUV had just been stolen from someone down the street. I told them that he was obviously injured but that was all I knew. They searched and searched and searched, and finally determined that he must have gone down the driveway into the woods. So they sent a car around to the other side of the woods to search from that side. They even had a helicopter up looking for him.

After about 45 minutes, another cop car pulled up with a canine unit. They brought the dog out and had him jump into the SUV to get the man’s scent. He jumped back down and went directly to the tree at the front of the SUV!

Turns out, the guy had buried himself in the leaves and was there the whole time!!!! They had never even looked there!!! We also found out he was an illegal – sometimes I swore half of Manassas was made up of illegals, there were so many, including MS-13!

HB and SIL had already made their decision by then to move to Nebraska. She was pregnant with Piper and wouldn’t be able to work and SIL had been laid off from his job. I had not yet decided to join them but, in March of 2009, I also lost my job as General Manager at ResoleAmerica. I decided God was telling me it was time to go home!!!!

  1. Good morning y’all! Happy Easter! Filly, I understand about all the illegals. We were infested with them too. A part of the reason I moved down to TN was because of how overrun my area had got. We have them here too, but not as bad yet…more money to make in the big city areas.

    Going to bake a ham and make potato dalad in a couple hours. Have to snake a drain in the basement first though. Kitchen and bathroom sinks are draining slowly…no toilet drain involved…

    1. Happy Easter to you and yours, CM! Enjoy your Easter meal with your family! Are you on your own water/septic? When I renovated this house, I had the entire plumbing system revamped, too. They put a clean-out drain close to the access door to the crawlspace, thankfully, altho I’ve never had to use it – city water/sewer.

        1. I had to have everything re-done – added a sink, still had all copper pipes, both toilets had to be re-done, showers/sinks moved, other pipes moved, etc.

          Cost me $5K and the guy doing the work was an AH of the first order! It was a company out of Norfolk – he clocked in at 7 am, then drove here and would sit in my driveway eating his breakfast, before finally getting to some actual work around 9 am – I was charged for ALL of that time!!!! I had also re-done the tile floors in the bathrooms myself and asked him to be careful with his cowboy boots. He didn’t and he put a gouge in the new tile in one room. I was NOT a happy camper!!!!

          But it’s difficult finding a company to put up with the hassle of working in a crawlspace for a relatively low-priced job, at least from their point of view.

    The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a San Francsico Police traffic officer was shocked recently when he pulled over a vehicle for failing to have its headlights on, only to find it was entirely empty. “Ain’t nobody in it; this is crazy,” a confused SFPD officer can be heard saying on a video recorded by a bystander.

    The vehicle was a self-driving Chevy Bolt from self-driving vehicle company Cruise and was stopped by the officer for failing to have its headlights on. The car halted for the police but then drove off, crossing an intersection before stopping in front of a Chinese restaurant. Cruise later explained the vehicle was going “to the nearest safe location for the traffic stop as intended.”

    The officer and two of his colleagues immediately surrounded the vehicle looking in the windows, and shining their flashlights inside. The SFPD then reportedly contacted Cruise which took remote control of the vehicle and no citation was issued.

    Experts say that the incident shows that autonomous cars are still not capable of figuring out human-robot interactions. Situations like this are likely to become more common as companies like General Motors spinoff Cruise, Google’s Waymo, and more begin operating self-driving vehicles on California public roads.

    The companies are testing robo-taxi rides for employees and some members of the public. Bryant Walker Smith, who teaches law at the University of South Carolina and is an affiliate scholar at Stanford’s Center for Internet and Society, commented that self-driving car companies “are trying to navigate regimes full of uncertainty and imperfection in the little dances between law enforcement officer and a vehicle.”

    He added: “As futuristic as we think we are, we have to engage in the structures of the present and even the anachronisms of the past.”

    company left an hour ago and i just finished cleaning up again…LOL
    can you believe it? we had snow this morning! So my daughter took a picture of my granddaughter hunting eggs while it snowed…
    it’s supposed to go to maybe 44* today but then 1-3 inches of snow overnight…winter just won’t stay in it’s lane!

      We may get some snow here, too, believe it or not! Again, I’m sure it will miss me but I might see a spit or two. It’s up to 41, tho, so it will probably just be a mist.

      they graded our road!!!!!
      I went on the township website and left a message…then i went on the county website and left a message…and said if nothing gets done and an accident happens, I have photos for any and all insurance companies…LOL
      Friday they graded and stoned the road.
      then we had heavy rains on Saturday but it’s still a bit better than it was before!

  42. what thievery!!!! cancel all college debt–$1.6TRILLION!!!! I paid my damn loans! and shit-for-brains is gonna make it easier for students to say the colleges misled them on their programs–that makes it the COLLEGE’S RESPONSIBILITY for the repayment of the debt!!!

    It will cost $1.6T we can’t afford and people who paid their loans will pay for it under government duress, as will people who didn’t even go to college. The people who signed the contract and agreed to pay for it will not pay. That is unAmerican.

    The danger of using executive action to force millions of Americans to pay for other peoples’ debts cannot be understated. He is not canceling the debt. He is transferring debt to other Americans by force. Biden will do it to buy votes. Cheating, lying, and stealing is the only way the new Democrat Party can win.

    Executive Actions are not meant to put $1.6 trillion in debt on the backs of innocent Americans. This is taxation without representation and it is tyranny.

    More than 43 million Americans owe a combined $1.6 trillion in student debt held by the federal government, according to the latest data from the Education Department. That includes more than 7 million borrowers who have defaulted on student loans, meaning they are at least 270 days late on payments.

    At the same time, the Biden education department is putting in a new rule to make it easier to claim their college lied to them about their college program. Their loans will be forgiven if they are successful. The government agency is even considering group forgiveness. Where is Congress?

    1. That’s equity for you! But, then, the universities and colleges have such deep pockets and multi-million $$$ endowments, they could afford to eat every dime!!!! Colleges nowadays are nothing but adult Play Schools!!!!

        the gov’t ought to look into the college tuition increases and such and if they were misleading the poor little students, then the COLLEGES should bear the cost of the tuition fees…not us…we had no part in those contracts!

        1. It also should have a talk with banks who are giving kids $60 to $100 thousand dollar loans they can’t pay back. Plus they have no clue about interest.
