Shooting at Transformers

One of the entertainments in and around our small towns in the summer was shooting at transformers on the county roads. No, it’s certainly not anything I ever tried but these were friends of one of the elite young men of Norfolk who could get away with anything he damned well pleased so……except this little escapade ended up killing him and two other kids!

I am using full names because these people are either dead or somewhere in another part of the country and this occurred when I was 16 in 1969!

Transformer

Four teenagers headed out mid-afternoon on a Saturday, roaming the back roads, and drinking beer – a given! The driver was the older sister of two with whom my sister and I were close friends, Carolyn & Holly; I also went to parochial and high school with Holly. Carolyn was dating the bad boy in town, Miles Amen whose dad was the Postmaster in Norfolk. MY Father worked for him!

In the back seat of the 2 – door car sat a very popular HS football player, Donnie Straight, and Kristi Love, a female friend. Among my close group of friends was Donnie’s GF, Judi Upton, of Indian (US) heritage. She had been invited on the outing but had another commitment.

Of course, Miles had brought his rifle – IDR whether it was a shotgun or a 20/20 or what. They pulled over to the side of the deserted gravel road near a transformer – Miles opened the car door and balanced the weapon on the top of the door. He took a few shots and missed – he tried one more time and hit the wire, which promptly whipped around and landed across the hood of the car.

Miles was electrocuted immediately! As Carolyn reached out her hand from the driver’s seat to touch him as he fell into the car, literal spurts of fire raced up her arm. Donnie quickly realized the position they were in, while Kristi was screaming her head off, frantic to get out – Miles’ body was blocking the seat back – he couldn’t push it far enough forward to get clear enough to jump.

He realized he MUST avoid touching the ground and the car at the same time. He tried to swing out of the door but the seat back accidentally flipped back and knocked him off-balance. He fell and died immediately.

Somehow…..even she can’t remember exactly how…..Kristi grabbed the seatbelt hanging from the ceiling, rolled the window down on her side, and climbed as far out as she could. At that point, she passed out and remembers nothing else until she woke up in a heap on the gravel road, next to the car. These were her recollections.

For my part….it was a particularly bad time for me at home and I had only recently been accepted and welcomed into this group of friends. Judi and I also shared first names and had been on an escapade or two together – we were close! She desperately needed to be with her and Donnie’s friends at that moment and that was US!

I begged my parents to let me take the Black Orchid (Dad’s car) to pick her up. Nope – not your business, she needs to be with her family now! What they refused to accept was that her family never approved of Donnie and she needed to get away from them.

Ours was black and white

Finally, they did agree to let me go with another friend, Joyce, who picked me up. We spent hours just driving around with Judi……it truly was a heart breaking time! Indeed, the entire town of Norfolk mourned!

    1. Really, really sad time……Carolyn was a really smart gal and she would have gone far. Donnie possibly had a future in the NFL – he was that good – and was looking forward to hopefully playing on the Huskers team. Who knows what might have become of Miles?

A year and a half later, when I “had to get married,” I was not allowed to have the woman I wanted for my maid-of-honor. She was the fiance of Donnie’s brother, Larry, but she was pregnant – I absolutely could NOT have an unwed pregnant woman in my wedding party!!! My wedding – the young woman who thought SHE was pregnant, hence, the hurried marriage! Can you say hypocrisy writ large??? These are the kind of games that I had to navigate the whole time I lived with them! SMH

Years later, when we moved to NE for 2 years between ’88 and ’90, I ran into Kristi again. Her family has a fairly substantial company putting up billboards and other signage in the area. She joined the family business eventually and was still working for them. One thing we never talked about, tho, was that particular episode. We both danced around that – even then, it was just too painful.

    1. Aw, hell – talk about psycho weather! I woke up to snow on the ground! And that fricking wind just blowing and blowing. Temp is already 34, tho, so it will turn back to rain if it keeps up. And then freeze tonight! Ah, spring in the midwest! Ain’t it grand??!!??

        1. Exactly! When it started last evening, it was pouring rain, thundering on the patio roof. I love the smell of rain in the air! And I did know they were predicting a shift to snow for a period of time – as you say, as long as it’s moisture…..

          1. My entire yard takes anywhere from 1.5 – 2 hours on my riding mower – just under an acre – depending on how many breaks I take. If I chose to weed-eat my entire fence line? Days and days! Which is why I use AllKill along the fence line as well as my driveway. Plus, since it is a wire fence, it chews the hell out of my weed eater line!

    1. Not me! The only game I play is solitaire on my computer. I do recall playing games in the car with my parents like “I’m thinking of an object” and providing clues. Or “I see something….it is this, this, and this” and we guessed what it was. But that was only on long trips to the Black Hills or CO. Most of the time, I was lost in a book.

Other than that, it was the childhood box games, like Monopoly and such, or various card games – Go Fish! Pitch, Hearts, Gin Rummy, Poker…..

  1. HAHA…DeSantis nails Disney…
    FTA
On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) pushed back on Disney’s criticism of Florida’s H.B. 1557, the Parental Rights in Education bill, which DeSantis signed into law on Monday, by stating that Disney is fine taking money from China and doing Disney cruises to Dominica, a country that criminalizes homosexuality, but has decided that “the hill to die on” is transgenderism in kindergarten.

DeSantis stated, “[Y]ou’ve got to wonder, like, why is the hill to die on to have transgenderism injected into kindergarten classrooms, or woke gender ideology injected into second-grade classrooms? Why is that the hill to die on? Meanwhile, if we had done a bill that prohibited talking about the abuse of Uyghurs in China, Disney would’ve supported that legislation. Because they don’t want to say a word about that. So, it’s just an odd manifestation of their corporate values that they actually do Disney cruises, Tucker, to the nation of Dominica, which criminalizes homosexuality. So, they’re fine doing that and lining their pockets. They’re fine lining their pockets from the C.C.P. and all the atrocities that go on there, but it’s those kindergartners in Florida that they really want to have transgenderism as part of their core curriculum in school.”

  2. AHA…the other shoe drops!
Pfizer who sponsored the oscars, just bought another pharma company and is now leading the race to get a new drug for alopecia to market…COINCIDENCE?
    FTA
What’s interesting is that Pfizer just hosted the Oscars, where, oddly enough, everything centered on alopecia.

The entire world is now talking about alopecia, thanks to the “slap” that happened at the Oscars between Will Smith and Chris Rock.

Jada Pinkett Smith, Will’s wife, claims she has alopecia.

And just 15 days ago, it was reported by Pharm Biz that Pfizer completed their acquisition of clinical-stage pharma company “Arena Pharma,” which specializes in alopecia studies, among other things.

Arena Pharmaceuticals brings to Pfizer a portfolio of diverse and promising development-stage therapeutic candidates in gastroenterology, dermatology, and cardiology, including etrasimod, an oral, selective sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator currently in development for a range of immuno-inflammatory diseases including ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and alopecia areata.

Lilly was leading the alopecia race, but Pfizer has now come in from behind.

      FTA
“Maze” tweeted about Pinkett Smith’s overreaction to Rock’s joke, considering “less than two weeks ago, Pinkett Smith wore an alleged $46,000 worth of diamonds on her head to an awards show,” pointing out that Pinkett Smith was intentionally calling attention to her bald head.

Less than two weeks ago Jada Pinkett Smith wore $46,000 worth of diamonds on her head to an awards show.

She is not battling cancer. She is a rich celebrity who does not shy away from calling attention to her hair loss. There was nothing wrong with that joke. pic.twitter.com/G4EbNuOd7g

      — Maze (@mazemoore) March 28, 2022

      But it gets better…

Only six days ago, Jada Pinkett Smith posted a video of herself on TikTok explaining that she has “learned to get the courage” to say she doesn’t care what people say about her bald head. “Which is why I feel the freedom today—I don’t give two craps what people feel about this bald head of mine,” adding, “because guess what? I love it!”

Just found something highly ironic…a clip of Jada Smith from a interview 6 days ago posted on her tiktok about her hair. I don’t think anyone was in the right but fuck Jada Smith honestly 😂 #WillSmithAssault pic.twitter.com/bqTadCec1Y

      — Kamera📸 (@fatyoshiboobs) March 28, 2022

Pinkett Smith’s hypocrisy doesn’t end with her hair; she also boycotted the Oscars in 2016 because they were “too white.” This year, however, she was able to find her way to Hollywood’s self-congratulatory awards show, as he husband, Will Smith, was all but guaranteed an award for “best actor” for his role as “Richard Williams” in the movie “King” Richard.”

  6. go green to save ukraine…from the cth
    FTA
And there it is….. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a public broadcast urging the allied western nations to quickly adopt “green energy” policies which he says will undermine the influence of Russia in Europe. If you’ve been following events, this demand is yet another big puzzle piece coming together. {Go Deep 1, Go Deep 2, and Go Deep 3)

The Recount has the video HERE. I cannot locate the shareable video on any other tech platform, which, given the importance, is not surprising. I doubt any govt in the western world wants to have the dots connected.

In the video Zelenskyy urges the NATO alliance, specifically western Europe, to quickly adopt the Build Back Better climate change agenda as it helps his country. He advocates for “green energy” as a top priority so that alliance members are not reliant on Russian energy sales.

If it seems a little odd that a president, in the middle of a war zone, would be advocating for the climate change agenda, you are not seeing the big picture. Ukraine is a crisis that cannot be wasted. The Green New Deal, Build Back Better, and western nation climate change agenda is far more important than a single proxy war nation. Ukraine is a tool in the bigger agenda, nothing more.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is controlled by the western alliance, NATO, Dept of State, CIA and western allied intelligence. This is part of the reason why Russia took action in the first place. Zelenskyy has a role to play and pushing the Build Back Better (WEF) agenda, while the opportunity exists, is all part of the organized global cleaving.

    Two fractured geopolitical groups globally.

The green energy group (economic globalists), and the fossil fuel group (economic nationalists).

EXCERPT: “LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The director of “Powder,″ a new Walt Disney film about a troubled teen-ager, is a convicted child molester who once videotaped himself having oral sex with a 12-year-old actor. The film’s release this Friday in 1,200 U.S. theaters has prompted the molestation victim, Nathan Winters, now 20, to go public with his ordeal to protest Disney’s employment of filmmaker Victor Salva.

On Monday night, Winters and five friends picketed outside the industry screening of “Powder,″ handing leaflets about Salva’s conviction to hundreds of grim-faced Hollywood executives leaving the theater.”

        1. Back story: His Mom was struck by lightning while she was carrying him. IDR if she died at that time or later but he survived, she didn’t. He was born pure white, without a hair anywhere on his body. But really, really smart! His grandparents were ashamed of him and sequestered him in their basement for the most part, but they were also loving and caring with him directly. They had a good relationship. He was surrounded by books, really heavy, intellectual books and knew just about everything there was to know about the world.

But he had a particular affinity for electricity, in all it’s forms, including lightning. At the same time, he was very pure – no bad thoughts, refused to defend himself when he was attacked by the other boys at the school. But when he was pushed just one step too far, he would explode and cause all kinds of carnage, like Carrie.

Electricity was literally drawn to him wherever he went. One girl befriends him and he discovers the male-female relationship, altho IDR it moving into the sexual realm. Of course, her father had a shit-fit, etc., etc. The ending scene – at the farmhouse where he was raised – during a thunderstorm – one last confrontation and Powder went running out into the fields, toward the storm, his arms raised widely, reaching for the sky, trying to draw the lightning. A lightning bolt hits him and – POOF – he’s gone and sunshine returns.

    FTA
Here’s what Brock describes as the mission of his project: “[Project 65] will not only bring the grievances in the bar complaints but shame them and make them toxic in their communities.” According to Axios, Brock’s plan is nothing less than a war of the strong against the weak: “I think the littler fish are probably more vulnerable to what we’re doing… You’re threatening their livelihoods. And you know, they’ve got reputations in their local communities.”

Give Brock points for honesty, at least. Not everyone has the guts to gloat about being pure evil. Project 65 is torn right from the playbook of Saul Alinsky (“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it”): Shame lawyers, plague them with hefty legal bills, and especially pick off ones who are less famous and backed by fewer resources. Given all that, it’s better to call Project 65 Project Shame, Project Fear, or the Project of Personal Destruction. And wait, why is it even called Project 65? Because (groan) that’s the number of lawsuits filed to support the “Big Lie,” of course.

As for books the quality of the stuff has drastically gone down hill.
I just rent from the Library.

My local paper sucks I’m debating about getting the Epoch Times for Mom.

  16. Bruce Willis ‘stepping away’ from acting as he battles aphasia, family announces

Bruce Willis has been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition where a person loses the ability to communicate, his family revealed on Wednesday. As a result, the Die Hard and Pulp Fiction star is “stepping away” from acting indefinitely.

The news comes more than a week after the actor celebrated his 67th birthday. Willis’s wife, Emma, his daughters and ex-wife Demi Moore all broke the news to fans in a joint statement on social media.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” the statement reads.

“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him,” it continues. “As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

Aphasia is a medical condition that can affect someone’s ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written, according to Mayo Clinic. It typically occurs after a stroke or head injury, but there can be other causes, too. The severity varies from person to person.

The vax maybe? Thoughts? I always liked Bruce.

Loved him in Die hard and Red movies

    1. I’ve not heard of this being a side effect of the jab. I always liked him, too. I don’t think I’ve watched Red yet but I did record it on my DVR recently for when I get around to it. I only watched one of the Diehard movies but I liked it.

      1. I wasn’t sure but that’s kind of shocking he got that.

The red movies are fun. The second one is ok but the first one is too funny. I wish they would have done more. But you know at least it ended on a high note unlike all this other crap.

    2. Interesting….I was wondering if RFK Jr. had this but no: “Kennedy suffers from spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological disorder that affects the muscles in the voice box.”

      EXCERPT: “About Aphasia

Aphasia is a language disorder that happens when you have brain damage. Your brain has two halves. Language skills are in the left half of the brain in most people. Damage on that side of your brain may lead to language problems. Damage on the right side of your brain may cause other problems, like poor attention or memory.

Aphasia may make it hard for you to understand, speak, read, or write. It does not make you less smart or cause problems with the way you think. Brain damage can also cause other problems along with aphasia. You may have muscle weakness in your mouth, called dysarthria. You may have trouble getting the muscles of your mouth to move the right way to say words, called apraxia. You can also have swallowing problems, called dysphagia.”

I was at Aldi and for some reason the potato prices were like $4.79. Why is a gallon of gas cheaper than potato’s? I’m buying frozen fries because that’s a crazy price.

As for oranges they’re $4.99!!!! WTH!!!!!

  22. Ok funny story. So I do receipt rebates. So I grabbed a receipt that someone left. Got some nice cash back I must say. But here’s the funny part. They got hormone free milk.

But the short code on the receipt is Homo Milk. Ok yeah I thought it was funny

    1. LOL – good one!!!! HB wasn’t so much on receipt rebates, altho she used them, too. No, she was THE coupon queen!

She kept them all in a file and once a month, she would write her list and organize the coupons. There were actually a couple of times that the store had to pay HER!!! They had a bunch of shelving set up in the basement so she bought a lot in bulk.

    2. Back then – I doubt they do it now – most grocery stores would accept coupons from other grocery stores in the general area. She might have a coupon for a store with an outlet in Columbus but not in Norfolk, but she could use that coupon in the local grocery stores anyway. And she specialized in double-coupons! I’m tellin’ ya’ – she had the system down perfectly!

      1. sounds like my mom used to be…only she sent away for stuff…remember send in so many box tops and receive cash back or a toy or an umbrella with the product logo?
she had a weekly coupon meeting where they exchanged coupons with the other ladies–they found these “deals” in magazines and everybody shared…
I have canvas tote bags, a kraft mac & cheese portable radio, Lipton iced tea golf umbrella and all kinds of stuff still…LOL

  23. update on that “teen” who fell out of the ride in FLA
    FTA
The harness on the seat of a Missouri teen who died after falling from a Florida amusement park ride was still locked after the ride came to a stop, staffers told authorities.

Tyre Samson, 14, perished after he somehow slipped out of his seat on the 430-foot FreeFall ride during its 75-mph descent and plunged to the ground at ICON park, according to an accident report obtained by CNN.

“Harness was still in a down and locked position when the ride stopped,” three employees told the Fair Rides division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service.

But Samson’s family — represented by attorney Benjamin Crump — are still asking if the teen, who weighed well over 300 pounds, should ever have been allowed on the ride in the first place.

“Be careful when seeing if large guests fit into the seats,” a manual for the attraction states. “Check that they fit within the contours of the seat and the bracket fits properly. If this is not so — Do not let this person ride.”

The guide also states a maximum allowable weight of 287 pounds.

Samson, a promising football player, was staying with the family of a friend during his doomed Florida visit.

    1. I saw the video online. Its tragic.

14 and well over 340 pounds I mean yikes.

But people were pointing out that if they would have told him no they would have sued for discrimination.

I’ve read that the big issue was there was no seat belt from the seat to the harness.

Not I ride I would ever do.

Now here’s something Mom and I we’re talking about. What if he took the vax and passed out from that drop? Dead weight

      1. Did any of the cars or whatever they were in ever turn upside down? Some of those rides do – nope – goes straight up and plunges back down at 75 MPH…..I agree on the discrimination accusation – do they have a scale at the entrance to the ride? With a prominent sign and a scale, this wouldn’t provide any openings for a lawsuit. PPPPPP

    1. Too bad they didn’t nail Bernie’s wife on the fraud she perpetuated against that north-east college!!! Some small college, she was in charge and drove it into bankruptcy and out of business – IIRC, a bunch of donations or something alone those lines went missing under her watch. Right around the time ole Bernie bought that beach house with his pay-off from the Dems.

          1. My sister used to wear them all the time during the summer. I wear something similar – a Croc knock-off sandal, so to speak, that my niece picked up at a feed store. They are made with tire rubber or something like that and last forever! She gave me 2 pairs in 2009 – I gave one to HB, the red ones, and kept the black pair. I where them still all summer.
