More Hidden Gems in Nebraska

National Museum of Roller Skating, Lincoln

The National Museum of Roller Skating in Lincoln, Nebraska is home to the largest collection of roller skates in the world, going back as far back as 1819. The museum aims at educating skating enthusiasts from all around the world about the history and evolution of skating as something more than just a hobby.

At the museum, the staff works towards collecting and preserving the enriching past of skating. Along with the biggest collection of historical roller skates, the National Museum of Roller Skating also houses patents, trophies, artworks, photographs, costumes, videos, and any other memorabilia related to the world of Skating.

There are approximately 1,500 books and journals related to roller skating. Among the museum’s most prized collections are the James L. Plimpton (the Father of contemporary roller skating) family collection, Antonio Pirello’s jetpack skates, and pictures of Scott Baio on roller skates.

Panorama Point, Pine Bluffs

The highest natural point in Nebraska, Panorama Point in Pine Bluffs stands at 5,429 feet above the sea level and as opposed to what you may believe, it’s not a mountain or even a hill – it’s just a small rise on the High Plains!

Located on the ground of High Point Bison Ranch, the summit at the Panorama Point has a stone marker and a guest register. There used to be several bison roaming freely in the area as well, but now they remain behind fences. As you reach the Point, vast plains extend in front of you as far as your eyes can see and on a clear day, you can spot the Rocky Mountains in the distance.

As a visitor, pay the nominal entrance fee and if you come across a bison on your way, don’t scare it away.

Old Lincoln Highway in Omaha, Omaha

Originally constructed in 1913 to run between New York City to San Francisco, the Old Lincoln Highway was the first coast-to-coast highway built in the United States of America. Among the 13 states that it catered to, Nebraska’s section of the highway ran between Omaha and Elkhorn.

However, in 1929, after the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Bridge was constructed, the highway was rerouted onto U.S. Route 30 through Blair (a city in Nebraska). After the rerouting was completed, officials from Blair, inhumanely, dug up the markers from the highway section in Omaha and placed them in their town.

Though this resulted in a long-standing resentment between the two towns, it is perhaps also the reason behind this century-old stretch of an old highway to remain so well-reserved.

This three-mile stretch may not remain as crucial as it once was, but it definitely is the longest surviving brick-paved section of America’s first coast-to-coast highway. The Old Lincoln Highway was registered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Ole’s Big Game Steakhouse and Lounge, Paxton

Established by Rosser O. Herstedt (aka Ole), the Steakhouse and Lounge is not just a simple steakhouse, although it does serve some mean steaks. It, in fact, is a private collection of taxidermy gathered by Ole during his 30+ years as a Game Hunter.

Purchased in 1933, the Big Game Steakhouse and Lounge got its first taxidermy object in 1938, an elk’s head that Ole had killed during one of his many hunting sprees. He traveled the world in search of bigger, better, and rare games and brought home the heads of his catch as a medal to be showcased at the steakhouse. Among the rare collection are giraffes, elephants, moose, and even a full-size taxidermy polar bear, which is also the bar’s mascot.

Ole retired from hunting in 1988, however, new owners kept adding to the collection. Today, over 200 taxidermy mounts, as well as celebrity photos, are on display at the Steakhouse and Lounge and the watering hole continues to attract local hunters to date.

Hudson-Meng Bison Kill, Harrison

In 1954, Albert Meng, a Nebraskan cattleman, decided to expand a historic spring to provide water for his cattle when he stumbled upon bones – lots and lots of them!

Discovered within the grounds of Oglala National Grasslands, the seriously alarming number of carcasses were later confirmed by researchers and scientists to have belonged to over 600 bison from approximately 10,000 years ago.

Meng consulted with his friend, Bill Hudson, an amateur archaeologist, and after digging for almost three years, Meng and Hudson were accredited with unearthing the largest collection of Alberta Culture bison found anywhere on earth.

Though the area was reportedly a hunting ground from the time when Native American tribes inhabited the land, research showed that the bison found at the Hudson-Meng Bison Kill died of inexplicable natural causes.

    1. Glad you liked it, Pat! Our Youth Society from church used to come here to go roller skating on Sunday nights. It was the only place in the area that still had a skating rink, gone now, unfortunately. That is where the new library was built. I recall being so excited that I was earning my own money and could buy the clothes I wanted instead of my Mom’s idea of what was “pretty.” My first foray in personally-selected clothing was the skating rink. It was a powder blue outfit, some understated sparkles on the knit top, and a skort. It was also where Roger and I went on our first officially-sanctioned date.

  2. guess we’ll see if there’s equal justice or not…
    FTA
The police officer, who remains anonymous at the time of this writing, was apparently injured when he was hit with objects by violent protestors while in the process of making an arrest during a riot in 2016.

Local news reported that “…the officer, identified in a lawsuit as John Doe instead of by name, claims he was seriously wounded after demonstrators began to ‘loot a Circle K’ for water bottles,” and that “…the demonstration was part of larger demonstrations in the aftermath of the police killing of Alton Sterling.”

The rioters then started to throw the water bottles at officers who were arresting their friends. According to the lawsuit, events escalated from simple water bottles quickly, “When the Defendants ran out of the water bottles they were throwing at the Baton Rouge City Police, a member of Defendant Black Lives Matter then picked up a piece of concrete or similar rock-like substance and hurled into the police that were making arrests.”

The lawsuit further alleges that the plaintiff was knocked to the ground, lost some of his teeth, and suffered injuries to the jaw and brain as the result of the incident.

Mckesson is named as the principal defendant in the lawsuit because of his role and planning an promoting the demonstrations. Considering violence during previous protests, and that Mckesson had prior knowledge of the events, the lawsuit alleges he is responsible for the resulting violent criminal actions that occurred.

Ironically, the lawsuit is predicated on other current legal precedents set by the governmental Jan 6 committee, which, according to The New York Times, filed a motion on March 3 suggesting he could be charged with engaging in a criminal conspiracy.

Black and Latinx commuters are disproportionately criminalized by fare evasion policies.

Congress must pass my #FreedomtoMove Act to grant Black and brown riders the freedom to navigate their community without fear.

If they don’t pay the fare, they are stealing, which makes them a thief and therfore a criminal.

It’s worth noting, since Pressley won’t, that fare evasion costs cities millions in dollars. In the first three months of 2021, costing the MTA in New York City $56 million for that period alone. A report from earlier this year found that the MBTA, in Pressley’s city of Boston, may have lost up to $35 million in a year from fare evasion.

  4. here’s a shocker…shit-for-brains removes tariffs on 352 shynese products…smh
    FTA
Last week, Biden did something very big for China:

President Joe Biden’s administration has eliminated United States tariffs on more than 350 products made in China, nearly all of which could be made in the U.S. or other countries.

The Section 301 tariffs on billions of dollars worth of China-made products were first imposed by former President Trump after a decades-long free trade consensus in Washington, D.C., that has eliminated 3.7 million American jobs from the U.S. economy from 2001 to 2018.

Late last week, Biden’s U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai announced that after an extensive review process on nearly 550 China-made products subject to U.S. tariffs, the administration would eliminate tariffs on 352 of those products.

The China-made products that will escape U.S. tariffs thanks to Biden include breast pumps, solar water heaters, garage door openers, X-ray tables, and thermostats, as well as food products from China such as crab meat, Dungeness crab, and Alaskan sole.

And where were the Democrats as these deals were being cut? Well, quite a few of them were in the background, cheering Biden on. Per Breitbart reporting, numerous Republicans were part of a bipartisan consortium urging Biden to stop protecting American manufacturing. The Republicans include Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL), Jackie Walorski (R-IN), Ron Kind (D-WI), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Burgess Owens (R-UT), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Ken Buck (R-CO), Young Kim (R-CA), and Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH).

      1. Bingo! And another thing….while I’m on my soapbox…..the way the bills are written and presented. First, the archaic language that almost no-one understands any more. For many, many years, the public cried out for updating the vernacular so the average, common person could really understand the laws they are creating. Second, this routine practice of submitting changes and revisions to PRIOR bills, thereby requiring the individual to also look up THAT bill, which also refers to changes to past bills, requiring…..and that’s the end of the public’s patience. ALL BY INTENT!!!!

    1. Transcript for you, Pat – being interviewed by Charlie Kirk: “Haven’t touched on this topic, which is Bill Barr is kind of on this media circuit….this is all around the Hunter Biden laptop, whether it was real or not, direct election interference. And so, Bill Barr was asked about this I think on Fox news. Let’s play a little clip…..Barr: “I was kind of shocked by that and, fortunately, the DNI came out and said, ‘No, it’s not disinformation’ and the FBI said the same thing and the media ignored it. Uhhh…so when you’re talking about interference in an election, I can’t think of anything more than that kind of…..’ Fox: ‘You know the case – do you think there is any liability for the President here? Perhaps not while he’s in office but…..’ Barr: ‘I don’t want to venture an opinion on that.’

Kirk: “I think the way he answered it is an answer in itself but…so do you think Bill Barr did what was necessary to make sure that people knew that this laptop was real or do you think he handled it….well, what do you think?”

Kash: “No, I don’t think he did enough at all and…I worked with Bill Barr in difference locations while I was running the intel community or back at the WH handling counter-terrorism or helping Johnny Ratcliffe, Director of Intelligence, that he referenced in this case. The top law enforcement officer here on this earth IS the Attorney General! Is he literally going around on a book tour and saying, ‘I didn’t really know what was going on….or…..” (Charlie didn’t know Barr’s book was out – Kash told him)

Kash: “Including where he takes ME out!”

      Kirk: (surprise)

Kash: “Oh, yeah! He said that he thought President Trump’s idea of making me DD of the FBI showed a ‘detachment from reality’ because I didn’t have the experience, except for the reality that he became AG at 37, but let’s lay that aside…..(lays out his experience)”

Kirk: “That’s so racist!” (both LOL) “So, Bill Barr comes after you in that but is there anything else, or was that just kind of a one-off comment?”

Kash: “Oh, no – he comes after Trump, he comes after a lot of people, yeah…and now he’s going around on this book tour, on all the fake news channels, and unfortunately, Fox News has given him air time. Instead, when WE were working on matters like this, what should have happened is that Bill Barr should have taken a more proactive approach on the Hunter Biden laptop, on the Russiagate investigation….we had to force these matters into the DOJ and show them over and over and over again before HE would react.”

Kirk: “Here’s an open-air concern – we are friends of the President, of President Trump, we’re both in his orbit and we both want to see him win again, but it seems like personnel….it was always a problem. Can you speak to that?”

Kash: “100% yeah – we did NOT have the right personnel, from jump, and it crippled the Trump Presidency, along with the Russiagate investigation, for at least the first 2-3 years of his Presidency, and that’s pretty much ALL of it. The group in charge continually picked the wrong people and we finally got to where we were getting it right, like Ric Grennell and Johnny Ratcliffe and all those guys…we started putting them in place. But, we had the bench – you know this – we had the bench but we just didn’t pick the right people.”

      Kirk: “Why weren’t they picked?”

Kash: “Because, in this WH, there were too many competing political interests and people…..for example, right….Devon (Nunes) and I were the outside cowboys, coming in with this Russiagate stuff, and back when Trump got elected, almost the entire Republican party didn’t believe us, right? So when we would come in and say ‘No, we’re right and here is the evidence,’ these guys should be your FBI Director, your CIA Director, your NSA Director, they said, ‘We’re not going to listen to you – we’re going to listen to those RINOs and the lofty nobility in the Republican establishment’ and they put THOSE people in. You have to remember, Chris Christie gave us Chris Wray as FBI Director; we got Rod Rosenstein – from the crew of RINOs out there, he is the worst Acting AG (Kirk: he recused himself, didn’t he…) Right….and those are guys who should never have even been on the list! But they were because of these political powerhouses who got their hands into the President’s office…..”

Kirk: “So you think that for a second term, one of the things has to be kind of a promise that Trump is going to make different personnel choices—and I agree—-if Trump were sitting right here, he would agree with us. He has nothing good to say about Mark Milley, you know…..there’s a list…I think Trump agrees with us. This is one of the concerns that people are going to have – really, the only concern – are you going to put the people in place to be able to do the things you promise?”

Kash: “Yeah, and know how you solve that? You build the book now, and I believe that that’s in process and it’s going on….not only do you build the book now on who you’re going to put in your Cabinet, deputies and under-secretaries, but then you make announcements on the campaign trail…..show the voters this is the individual you have identified to lead your cabinet…”

Kirk: “I think that’s terrific – the same way he did the SCOTUS picks, basically. When I travel the country and meet with the grass roots, the only thing that people complain about the Trump Presidency is the personnel.”

Kash: “I was in it….you know what’s sad? I fought the personnel inside the WH agency as much as I fought the people outside of it.” Kirk agreed.

  8. I’m not sure of the date on this one but somewhere, I had a pic of a map from many, many, many years ago showing the exact same break-out. Not sure if I still have that one and it didn’t come up in this search. BTW, I’ve had to go back to DDG for my search engine – Brave is still too wonky yet, can’t post pics from searches there. They have to be saved to HD and uploaded to Imgur first. I’m sure they’ll get that fixed eventually – hope so, anyway.

EXCERPT: “By Miriam Hall of Bisnow.com,

Blackstone is giving up on one of its Midtown Manhattan office buildings, the latest sign yet that distress is beginning to hit the office sector. The world’s largest owner of commercial real estate, Blackstone has turned over the keys of 1740 Broadway, a 26-story office tower a block from Carnegie Hall, to the special servicer on its $308M commercial mortgage-backed security, Commercial Observer reports.

Deutsche Bank originated the loan in 2015 as part of a single-asset, single-borrower CMBS deal and enlisted special servicer Green Loan Services to manage the financing deal. Blackstone has extensive Manhattan holdings, and the decision to hand the keys to Green Loan Service is “a one-off occurrence,” a source close to the deal told CO.

Blackstone bought the 621K SF tower from Vornado Realty Trust in 2014 for $605M. It has lost two major tenants in recent years, with law firm Davis + Gilbert leaving for Rudin’s 1675 Broadway in 2019 and L Brands electing not to renew its 418K SF lease, instead moving to 55 Water St. in 2020.”

Entire article @ BB: “Celebrities attending Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony will still win big, even if they don’t take home an award, as nominees will receive gift bags worth $100k, including trips to a castle in Scotland — proving yet again the hollowness of the film industry’s climate activism.

The plot of land in Scotland in this year’s Oscars gifts bags also comes with a title of Lord or Lady of Glencoe, according to a report by E! News.

The Oscars nominees can reportedly expect the following items in this year’s gift bags, which were put together by Distinctive Assets:

A 3-night stay in Scotland’s Turin Castle, worth $50,000, and inspired by Denzel Washington being nominated for Best Actor in The Tragedy of Macbeth (butler service *is* included, thanks for checking)

A 4-night stay at the Golden Door resort in California worth $15,000

A small plot of land in Scotland, along with the title Lord or Lady of Glencoe

A $12,000 liposuction procedure from Dr. Thomas Su called “Celebrity Arms”

$10,000 of “treatments and rejuvenation procedures” from Dr. Konstantin Vasyukevich

A life coaching session with Kayote Joseph worth $1,200

    Popcorn

$25,000 in home renovations from Maison Construction in L.A.

Last year, celebrities attending Academy Awards ceremony took home gift bags containing a variety of luxurious items and services reportedly worth $205,000 apiece — a combined value of $5.1 million.

The gift bags contained free liposuction, designer skin creams, gold-plated cannabis vaporizers, “affirmation candles,” vegan bubble bath, IV vitamin infusions, a getaway to French Polynesia, among other items.”

  16. Entire article @ BB: “For many years, a woman named Shreevie Kenner in Evergreen, Colorado, has made it her mission to entertain children riding her bus with costumes and gifts. She loves the children very much, so she has put off retirement, Kenner told KKTV this week.

A GoFundMe page set up for Kenner featured notes from people who knew her, one person writing, “Best bus driver and caregiver of children ever! All three of my kids absolutely love her.” “Absolutely the best.. to drive a bus in the snow around here is certainly a challenge! All my kids love her (and the dog too!)” another said.

Kenner lost her only child at seven-years-old many years ago. Her little girl passed away following a battle with bone cancer. “They take away that hurt from my daughter,” Kenner explained of the elementary students she drives. She had been saving to visit a friend who retired to Hawaii, but Kenner’s husband died from the coronavirus and when mounting bills and funeral costs burned through her savings, she canceled her plans.

However, fellow bus driver Joan Cooper heard what happened and immediately knew it was up to her to remedy the situation, so she created the fundraiser to purchase her friend’s airfare. As of Saturday afternoon, Cooper’s GoFundMe page had raised $2,685 of its $1,000 goal. “I’m just overwhelmed because all these people just love me,” Kenner commented. In an update on March 18, Cooper said “Ms Shreevie send a huge Thank You to all who so generously donated to her Hawaii trip,” adding she could not believe she would be on her way very soon.

A video shared on the page showed the bus driver wearing a Hawaiian shirt and blowing a kiss to everyone:” According to KKTV, her long-awaited vacation is scheduled for June.”

    Big long kiss, Pat!

  24. Entire article @ FreeBeacon:

“Will Smith, a prominent Scientologist and Democratic donor best known for co-writing the hit song “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It,” shocked the civilized world on Sunday by slapping the s—t out of comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars.

Libs were flummoxed. Should they be outraged? Was it racist? A number of Democratic politicians, including “Squad” member Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D., Mass.), initially applauded Smith’s violent outburst, which came in response to Rock making a joke about the actor’s nominal wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D., N.Y.) tweeted, then deleted, the following take: “Teachable Moment: Don’t joke about a Black Woman’s hair.”

Doing what comes naturally, a number of libs reacted by denouncing former president Donald Trump for his role in the slapping incident. “So did like anyone walk out after that happened???” wrote Asha Rangappa, the CNN analyst best known for doxxing a Washington Free Beacon intern. “Or are we getting an independent psychological case study on how Trump got normalized?”

Steve Schmidt, the schlubby Lincoln Project cofounder who once compared himself to the soldiers who stormed the Normandy beaches on D-Day, offered a similar assessment. “Do you want to understand how Trump happened? Watch the Oscars and the crowd reaction,” he wrote. “Applause for assault in a tuxedo in California is the same as applause for assault while wearing a red hat in Alabama.”

Howard Stern, the former anti-establishment shock jock turned boring liberal scold, suggested (without evidence) that “Will Smith and Trump are the same guy.” The fact that Smith, who would go on to accept the best actor award for his role in King Richard, did not face any meaningful consequences for his actions was an example of “how Trump gets away with shit,” Stern said.

Left-wing radio host Dean Obeidallah used the violent outburst as an opportunity to complain that “Donald Trump [has] still NOT been criminally charged for his attempted coup and his role in the Jan 6 terrorist attack.” It is almost as if America’s libs have developed an unhealthy addiction to the constant outrage and anxiety they felt during Trump’s presidency, and miss him even more than his biggest fans.

Smith and his wife, who have said they are in an open marriage, were among the campaign bundlers who raised at least $500,000 for former president Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012, along with disgraced Hollywood rapist Harvey Weinstein.”

  25. Holy shit!!!! But, then, NJ is primarily a shit-hole anyway but still….SMDH

EXCERPT: “Dowling later spoke at a school-wide assembly as part of the school’s “Stories Of Adversity & Resilience Program,” about which administrators notified parents ahead of time, giving them the option to opt out their children. Concerned parents flocked to a school board meeting last Thursday, where board members admitted parents should have similarly been informed about the hormone therapy video.

“I felt as if I was blindsided,” Loren Malfitano, whose two sons were shown the video, told the Washington Free Beacon. “They’re learning about this ideology of gender before they even have classes on the actual biologies of males and females.”

The school superintendent did not respond to a request for comment.

The tension over sex education in New Jersey is one of many examples across the country where concerned parents battle public schools over radical gender and sexuality curricula. Florida received national attention in March after the state legislature passed a bill that bans lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in K-3 classrooms.

New Jersey is set to enact updated health standards in September pushed by Democratic governor Phil Murphy that teach second-graders about genitalia, reproduction, and “gender expression.” Fifth-graders will be required to define masturbation and differentiate between sexual orientation and gender identity, and eighth-graders will have to define gender identity, gender expression, vaginal sex, oral sex, and anal sex. The governor-appointed New Jersey Board of Education adopted the standards in 2020.”

  27. Iditarod sled race punishes three mushers for sheltering their dogs in cabins during fierce storm

    https://news.yahoo.com/iditarod-sled-race-punishes-three-185257659.html

hree mushers in the Iditarod sled race have been punished for sheltering their dogs in cabins during a severe storm instead of leaving them outside.

The storm towards the end of the race led six mushers to scratch the same day.

Mushers Mille Porsild of Denmark, Michelle Phillips of Canada and Riley Dyche of Fairbanks, Alaska, were disciplined for taking their dogs inside during a storm that created white-out conditions, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

Race marshal Mark Nordman made the call, saying that sheltering the dogs inside meant the teams received a competitive advantage.

“No doubt that Michelle and Mille did the right thing for their dogs,” he said. “But it also affected the competition for racers going forward.”

I’d tell them to shove it up their Ass but hey.

            1. I was hoping I didn’t insult you, kea, or denigrate in any way your love for dogs. Similar to the way the Indians looked at their horses – they were there to work for the tribe. Both have great respect for their animals as an integral part of the whole.

      1. The rules are the rules and that is part of what the overall team is judged by – the toughness of the dogs. There is a reason this is considered to be THE toughest race on this continent!

    1. We tend to think of dogs as pets. In that part of the world, dog sled is often the only transportation available to many of the Indigenous populations. Plus, those dogs are bred for such weather and they help them hunt.

When I first got my wolf-shepherd, Spirit – whose Daddy was half wolf/half shepherd and whose Momma was full shepherd – we bought a doghouse for both she and her sister (whom we kept for a bit until our friends got moved to their new house) – it was insulated, with styrofoam sheets in all of the walls. I also put a warm rug inside for them.

Horrible ice storm changing to snow storm one night, with a 30 below zero wind chill. I was concerned for them and looked outside to make sure they were inside and safe. Nope – they were both laying out on the snow, not a care in the world, all stretched out and sleeping. I was never able to bring Spirit inside for any length of time – she would pant and pant and pant, pace and pace and pace, back and forth to the door. It was never cool enough inside for her.

        1. Oh, kea – please don’t call her a hybrid – yet another word that has been bastardized! A true hybrid is a cross between two different species – the wolf is a member of the canine species, just a different branch, therefore, they are wolf-dogs, just like a cross between two breeds – not hybrids. I know, I know…..those pesky details again! LOL

            1. Oh, yeah – it was clear in her coat alone – the densest, thickest fur I’ve ever seen on a dog. Even more so than Huskies. And VERY protective, which is common with shepherds, too, of course. I got her when she was 6-8 weeks old and had to have her put down due to cancer when she was 12.

You know how when you play fight with a dog, they sometimes bite down too hard on your hand or arm? Never once did she do that. Wolves have far more sensitive teeth than the domesticated dog. I was in her pen once, play fighting with her – she reared up on her back legs and swiped at me with her front paw. I was bending towards her and her claw gouged me on my eyelid. The second I let out a gasp of pain, she dropped flat to the ground, looking up at me in sorrow and contrition for hurting me, and whining.

There was one period when I boarded her at a friend’s farm where I also boarded Z. When they had purchased the farm, there was an old lab still there from the previous owners.

She would periodically take Spirit out of the pen where she kept her – actually, an unused stall in the barn – and let her run for a while. The old lab and she would get into what sounded like the most vicious and life-ending fights the neighbors had ever heard. The snarling and snapping could be heard from a long distance.

Yet, never once did either of those dogs break the skin. The hair around their necks would be soaking wet but never one bite. It really was comical, TBH.

              1. You should have seen us, Kea! My big burly hubby – 6’2″, 200+ lbs – walking a teensy, tiny black cocker spaniel and 5’4″, 115 lbs me – walking this massive wolf-dog. She wasn’t all that tall (her Dad was small) and, from a distance, didn’t look all that fierce. But she had the deepest and broadest chest – when you got close, you realized how big she really was…..

She wasn’t but 3-4 months old when hubby took her to a nearby lake for some exercise. She had never growled at anyone until that point but a guy was walking towards hubby with a fishing pole in his hand.

Her hackles went up immediately and the hair went up on the back of her neck – she saw him as a threat and reacted instinctively.

              2. He didn’t want a dog in the first place but preferred a big, burly monster of a dog. HB wanted a puppy and fell in love with this tiny black cocker spaniel runt-of-the-litter. She almost died 14 times before we ever got her. We named her Precious.

Big, bad Mark “I can’t STAND little dogs!” lasted as long as it took for her to crawl up and go to sleep on his chest while he was lying on the floor. That’s all she wrote!!!

After that, he absolutely refused to let me train her or discipline her in any way. She turned into such a vicious dog that we had to have her put down at 3 years old – she got up, walked over to my roommate/landlord’s 5 year old son – jumped up with her feet on his chest and bit him intentionally. And Ray was in the middle of a custody battle with his ex!!!

Bad, bad news. I gave Mark until the following Wednesday, when the vet was coming out to check on the dingbat appaloosa I was doctoring, to pick her up and take her with him. Otherwise, she was being put down.

He didn’t and she was! Our neighbor came over with a backhoe and we dug a hole way out in the pasture. HB and I wrapped her in her favorite blanket and we had a funeral for her. Such a terrible waste of a good dog!

Spirit, on the other hand, never, ever bit a human being her entire life. But, then, I trained her so…..
