Two hundred years after George Washington issued the first presidential proclamation of a day of public thanksgiving, President George H.W. Bush stepped before reporters, 30 schoolchildren and one antsy 50-pound turkey in the White House Rose Garden on November 17, 1989. The public presentation of a plump gobbler to the chief executive in the lead-up to Thanksgiving had been a time-honored photo op since the 1940s, but Bush would add a new presidential tradition of his own. After noting that the turkey appeared “understandably nervous,” Bush added: “Let me assure you, and this fine tom turkey, that he will not end up on anyone’s dinner table, not this guy. He’s granted a presidential pardon as of right now.”

Decades later, the presidential turkey pardon remains an annual Thanksgiving ritual. However, while Bush formalized the fowl tradition, he may not have been the first president to issue a stay of execution to a turkey. A story is told that while Abraham Lincoln occupied the White House, his young son Tad grew so close to a turkey destined for Christmas dinner that he named him Jack and led him around on a leash like a pet. Listening to Tad’s pleas to spare the turkey from his culinary fate, the Great Emancipator granted a reprieve and freed the bird.

A decade later during the administration of President Ulysses S. Grant, Rhode Island poultry dealer Horace Vose began to send plump turkeys to the White House for Thanksgiving dinners. Although a staunch Republican, Vose was non-partisan when it came to turkeys. He sent birds to presidents of both parties until his death in 1913. Beginning in 1946, a pair of poultry industry groups—the National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board—assumed the duties of presenting presidents with turkeys for the holidays. That year, the groups delivered a 42-pound Texas tom to President Harry Truman for Christmas.

While Truman began the ritual of appearing with the gift turkeys in staged photo ops, he is erroneously credited with starting the presidential pardon tradition. The misinformation is so prevalent that the Truman Library has issued a statement on its web site that its staff “has found no documents, speeches, newspaper clippings, photographs, or other contemporary records in our holdings which refer to Truman pardoning a turkey that he received as a gift in 1947, or at any other time during his Presidency.”

In fact, not only did the turkeys given to Truman and some of his successors fail to receive clemency, they suffered a much different fate by ending up on the presidential dinner table. In 1948 Truman told reporters that the turkeys given to him “would come in handy” for the 25 people expected for dinner at his Independence, Missouri, home that Christmas. Ten days before Thanksgiving in 1953, National Turkey Federation president Roscoe Hill presented a live 39-pound turkey to President Dwight Eisenhower, who hoped Hill would kill, freeze and return the gobbler to the White House “in plenty of time because I hope to spend Thanksgiving with my youngsters and I want to take him along.”

A president finally took pity on a gifted bird in 1963 when John F. Kennedy spared the life of a mammoth 55-pound white turkey wearing a sign around its neck—clearly not of its own volition—that read “Good Eating, Mr. President!” “We’ll just let this one grow,” Kennedy said with a grin. “It’s our Thanksgiving present to him.” As the president left the Rose Garden on November 19, 1963, the turkey prepared for its return to a California farm while Kennedy finalized preparations for his fateful trip to Dallas three days later.

Although newspapers in 1963 reported that “Merciful President Pardons Turkey,” the first president to actually use the word “pardon” at the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation may have been Ronald Reagan, albeit as a quip. During the throes of the Iran-Contra scandal in 1987, Reagan sidestepped reporters’ questions about whether he planned to pardon any of his aides accused of wrongdoing. When then asked about the fate of the 55-pound turkey he was just given, Reagan joked, “I’ll pardon him.”

Although the National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate (sent in case the primary turkey can’t fulfill its duties—mainly, staying alive to make it to the presentation ceremony) now receive stays of execution, their remaining days do not last too long. The skeletons and organs of turkeys bred for consumption are incapable of supporting extreme weights, and most of the reprieved turkeys die prematurely within the following year.

    Nobody should ever be interviewed by the FBI without making a recording of the interview. The FBI doesn’t want recorded interviews because that way they can make up statements as to what was said – happens all the time. Our corrupt “Justice” system is at work today like never before. FBI offered Jonathan Steele One Million Dollars to lie about me, and paid a Russian $200,000 to get Trump. Failed to find anything on me regarding the January 6th Hoax, or the Document Hoax!

The D.A.’s Star Witness, who has been beaten down, persecuted, and threatened like few people ever, admitted on the stand that Donald J. Trump and members of the Trump family knew NOTHING about his acts in question. We relied on the highly paid Accounting Firm, a reliance case. Therefore, this trial should be over.             my hubby is an accountant for a mechanical engineering firm…and the plumbers and HVAC apprentices get more in salary/benefits than the office staff! once they’re in the unions? they’re making $35 an hour and get an additional 30% of their salaries into their pension plans…(company paid)…that’s phenominal!!!!

    “As most of you know, me and a bunch of other people are monitoring VAERS data very closely week-by-week. This week (11.18.22), the first thing I noticed was that the Foreign data set was less than a fraction of the size it was last week (11.11.22): down from 283.51 MB to 96.81 MB. There is a disclaimer under the VAERS data that states the following, so this is not mistake.

    I decided to process the data as I always do on Fridays.

    The first thing I do when I analyze the VAERS data (after downloading) is compile the Domestic data set. Then I compile the Foreign data set. The I merge them along with the 2021 COVID-19 data. Then I count the numbers of VAERS IDs in both and do some basic descriptive statistics – like how many males versus females, age demographics, dose data and more. Then I start my grouped queries like death counts and severe adverse event counts, etc..

    In the case of myocarditis, I always run the code over the Domestic, the Foreign and the combined data sets independently. The first thing I noticed is that the myocarditis dose 3 response signal is gone. There is a 49% decrease in the number of myocarditis reports.

    The second thing I noticed was that 944 spontaneous abortions are missing.

    The third thing I noticed was that the cancer reports, although they maintain a similar age distribution as the previous weeks, as shown in Figure 4, there is a 46% decrease in reports.

    Seen in this light, and only in this light, the encouragement of lab-grown meat makes sense. It’s an assault on rural America, an attack on the American farmer. It’s a science-fiction plot hatched in the real world without the slightest need.

    And the FDA – like so much of today’s federal bureaucracy – has been weaponized in support of that countercultural effort.

    America needs to Just Say No to lab-grown meat. They will market it as cleaner, safer, purer; they will claim that it’s more humane to never raise an animal at all than to raise one that will eventually be used to make steaks, belts, and coats. It’s an argument they have used before, for other political issues as well.

    Like so many other issues they champion, there’s a lot more countercultural motivation here than meets the eye. The fact that lab-grown meat, in a nation blessed with unlimited natural farmland, is unnecessary is just the tip of the iceberg.

    The White House recently announced that it was funding a five-year research plan for a controversial proposal to fight climate change by geoengineering — i.e., technologies and processes that can be used to artificially modify the Earth’s climate.

    This research would be dedicated specifically to a form of geoengineering known as “solar radiation management,” which involves spraying fine aerosols into the atmosphere to reflect sunlight away from the Earth. The hope is that, once the sunlight is reflected, less heat will be generated, and ergo temperatures will go down. Presto: actual anthropogenic climate change! A global SPF 100, as it were!

    The research reportedly will attempt to model how solar radiation management might impact the atmosphere, as well as assess its viability as a potential technique to be employed to “manage near-term climate risk.”

    They’re hoping to fight the scourge of climate change by blindly trying to change the climate? What is it with Democrats? They’re also fighting racism with racial quotas and making race the primary consideration in, well, everything. That’s working well, isn’t it? Next, they’ll propose fighting drug abuse by giving out free needles and crack pipes. Oh wait, they’re already doing that. Why haven’t they yet suggested we combat STDs by having indiscriminate sex with as many other people as possible?

    Now they’re going to “cancel” the sun, without which life on Earth would be impossible? What could go wrong?!

    And would this be a unilateral decision? “Hope the rest of you guys don’t mind, but we’re blocking the sun! Oops, we didn’t expect that! Our bad. Sorry, might be a bit chillier than we’d like for a while!”

    And yet a U.S. regulatory agency now tells us that large swaths of North America may face blackouts and other energy emergencies during bouts of extreme cold this winter, due to coal and natural gas shortages.

    Thanks, guys! Anything else you want to do to for us while you’re at it? Better get started with your sunblock!

    A suggestion for the Bite-me Biden administration: Maybe we could just throw a giant thermal-reflective blanket over the sun and see what that does.

    “There’s nothing new under the sun” is an old cliché. If this “plan” goes through, there might not be anything old, either.

    They can put this plan “where the sun don’t shine” — which, in a few years, might be everywhere.

    Entire Article: “It’s been an interesting week of watching people on the Right scrambling to sling mud at anything or anyone to which or whom it will stick. Perhaps the most interesting of all is “who” the blame has fallen to. Namely, Donald Trump.

    Most people do not understand the kind of true sacrifice Trump made when he decided to run for office—even though he surely didn’t have to. The hatred and other persecutions, the sorts that come with such public sacrifices, have the potential of ruining not only one’s own life but that of one’s family. Most people don’t know anything about what that’s like. Nevertheless, Trump chose to make those sacrifices to expose the unabashed corruption at every level of American politics.

    Before Trump pulled back the curtain we only saw shadows and projections of what was actually happening there. We got only rare glimpses of what really goes on behind the scenes. We knew things weren’t on the up and up, but little did we know how deep the swamp really was. At that time, the Republican Party was lifeless and without any sense of direction. No one should forget that Trump resuscitated a dying party. He gave it a future. He gave it hope.

    He was the people’s champion among those who felt left behind by the establishment on both sides. He put American politics under a microscope like no other president ever has.

    I think that is why the last week has been so inconceivable. People who once supported Trump saying that his era is over, that Trumpism is dead, and casting him aside for the next shiny object. I have to ask these people one very important question: Why is Ron DeSantis, a candidate who is similar to Trump in many ways, now viewed favorably by the anti-Trump crowd on both sides? It leaves me with an uneasy feeling and doesn’t sit well with me.

    This does not seem like a coincidence. It seems like an intentional move on behalf of the establishment elites. Indeed, you can be sure of that. Trump stands for everything these people find abhorrent and he can’t be controlled or bought like the majority of those in D.C.. During his four years in office, he showed what our country could be with no new wars, significantly reduced illegal immigration, tax cuts and deregulation, bringing companies back to America, and building a stronger military.

    It is undeniable that Trump brought an authentic and unique agenda to the table and showed himself to be different from anything the Republican Party has ever had. While others have become prominent in our political culture after him, no one is quite like Trump and to think otherwise is ludicrous.

    Without Trump at the helm for the last two years, the RINOs have regained much of the momentum they lost and they, like the Democrats, cannot stand the thought of another four years under Trump. Backing away from Trump now is ill considered. Make some of your own observations about these strange occurrences and remember why you liked Trump in the beginning.

    Remember, the same people who were attacking him years ago are the ones still attacking him now, only today they are using a well-liked candidate (who owes a great deal to Trump) against him, causing a divide and duping everyone in the process. Consider who that really benefits. That says a lot to me.”

    I also discovered that I did save that 100+ Tweet thread about Tesla!!!! I converted it to a PDF doc somehow – don’t remember how since I don’t have the full-fledged Adobe program. IIRC, there is/was a mechanism within Twitter to convert it to a PDF. It is difficult to copy from a PDF, tho, so I’ll have to see how much work it would involve turning it into an open. A lot of re-typing, of course, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull the pics into Imgur. We’ll see…..

    The wife of a Bronx principal collects rent money from teachers recruited from the Dominican Republic and forced to share a co-op apparently owned by the principal’s mother.

    The city Department of Education announced with great fanfare in September that it had hired 25 bilingual Dominican teachers to work with Spanish-speaking students. But the program is now embroiled in accusations that the foreigners have been controlled and intimidated by a group of DOE administrators profiting as their landlord.

    In addition to a Bronx duplex where 11 Dominican teachers were housed by ADASA, the Association of Dominican-American Supervisors and Administrators, three others were put into a three-bedroom co-op — each charged $1,350 to $1,400 a month, plus security deposits, teachers said.

    Emmanuel Polanco, 39, the first vice president of ADASA and MS 80 principal — removed this month pending an investigation into the program — runs the rental with his wife, Sterling Báez, 32, a DOE elementary teacher in the Bronx.

    The couple hold keys to the teachers’ rooms and mailbox, the teachers said. They also set rules: “We cannot receive visitors, Ms. Polanco told us.”

    Desperate attempts by the teachers to save money were rejected: “We wanted to move into the same bedroom [and split the rent], but they said ‘No you cannot. You have to live individually.’”

    The three-bedroom apartment in a 67-unit co-op building at 2866 Marion Ave. was purchased for $155,000 in 2006 by Juana Polanco-Abreu, 61, who is listed in records as the principal’s mother.

    Polanco-Abreu received a $10,000 loan from the city’s Housing, Preservation and Development department under a program to help low- and middle-income people buy their first homes, agency officials said in response to an inquiry.

    One of the Dominican teachers in the Marion Avenue co-op, Rosa Minier, said she was required to rent a room there after being told that her husband and three children, ages 12, 7 and 5, could not join her in New York for at least a year.

    “I cry every night,” she said of missing her kids.

    But Minier enjoys teaching at the International School for Liberal Arts: “I love my job.”

    The three women share a kitchen, bathroom and living room — which last week had just an old, dismantled fish tank in it.

    “I pay my rent to Polanco’s wife,” one said, showing a screenshot of a $1,012 payment on a digital banking app to “Esterlin Adasa” with a phone number that records show belongs to Báez.

    Báez, who posts sexy photos of herself on Facebook, is a teacher at PS 595 The Colibrí Community School in the Bronx.

    Báez did not reply to an email asking about her role. The city Department of Education and Polanco did not respond to requests for comment.

    On Friday, District 10 Superintendent Maribel Torres-Hulla sent a letter to the MS 80 community announcing that Kenyatta Williams, an assistant principal, will take over as Acting Principal. She did not mention Polanco, who was “reassigned” on Nov. 2.

    The Dominican teacher program is now under investigation by city and federal authorities.

    Since The Post and CBS first reported complaints of exploitation and intimidation of the Dominican teachers last week, more have emerged.

    “I have continued to receive allegations even after the investigation was initiated,” Bronx state Sen. Luis Sepúlveda said Friday. He would not discuss the allegations, saying he referred them to the DOE.

    ADASA put 11 teachers in a cramped two-family house on Baychester Avenue in the Bronx, charging 10 of them $1,450 a month each, and one $1,300 a month, The Post has reported. The total $15,800 in collected revenue would net a $8,900 profit over the $6,900 ADASA pays to lease the duplex.

    The teachers were warned, several said, that they could lose their NYC jobs and J-1 visas if they objected to the terms.

    “You can join the other teachers, or you can voluntarily resign,” Ramon Alexander Suriel said he was told in an Oct. 14 “ultimatum meeting” at MS 80 with Polanco and an MS 80 staffer.

    Suriel, 50, who brought his wife and two kids, ages 2 and 4, to share the New York experience, said he was told to send his family back without him.

    He quit, and returned to the DR — after incurring some $3,500 in expenses due to ADASA botching a set of airline tickets to NYC, forcing him to pay again for a second flight and overnight stays.

    “I want my money back,” he fumed, adding that ADASA has failed to refund his lost money. “No one is accountable for it.”

    The NYC teachers’ union said it will look into legal aid for Suriel and other Dominican teachers, said UFT spokeswoman Alison Gendar.

    Last week, the other Dominican teachers renting rooms received a letter in defense of Polanco and ADASA from Marianne Mason, executive director of the Cordell Hull Foundation for International Education, a New York-based group that sponsors the visas.

    She blamed the teachers’ complaints on “culture shock” and “quite a few points of misunderstanding.”

    She said DOE administrators provided accommodations to spare the teachers the “frustrating and difficult” task of finding their own. While charging rent, ADASA covers other expenses such as utilities, Internet and furniture, she said.

    “Emmanuel Polanco and the entire ADASA team have done all this work to give, to contribute, and not to profit from you,” Mason wrote.

    Mason warned the teachers they signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the foundation that “gives us the right to cancel your visa if you do not behave in the spirit of exchange or for default as a teacher.”

    She denied that ADASA forced the teachers to live in the buildings it leased: “You were always given the opportunity to live somewhere else and you still can.”

    Reached by The Post, Mason said of the teachers, “They’re lying.”

    Mason’s letter demands that the Dominicans “contact and correct the facts of any reporters who have interviewed you.”

    1. I saw that headline earlier – despicable! But, then, that is what the majority of these companies do – they pay these people what amounts to peanuts in our economy, and abuse them terribly. And all of the ramifications just flow like a river….American’s salaries lowered, unable to get jobs, no benefits, etc., etc.

    During the debate, one commenter wrote: “NPR broadcasts far-left agenda-driven radio to suit those who fund them, everyone knows this. NPR is tailor-made left-wing propaganda, follow the $$$.”

    Another commenter posted this counterargument: “For every segment that covers one side of an issue, there’s another that covers the other side. If you or anyone else disagrees, the company has an independent ombudsman to whom you can direct your complaint. Name a similar person in conservative talk radio.”

    The debate proceeded along these lines, with each side attempting to convince the other that NPR was either wholly biased or wholly unbiased on a myriad of issues, ranging from COVID-19 restrictions to abortion.

    The NYRMB attracts primarily a niche audience of radio professionals and fans. However, the comments reflected wider debates over NPR’s politics and biases — namely, whether NPR’s programming and perspectives are a breath of fresh air (pun intended, this is the name of a popular NPR program) in a commercialized media landscape or a soothing, soft-spoken variation of mainstream news media.

    Numerous polls, and sentiments among groups ranging from conservative Republicans to the far left, argue that NPR’s programming is permeated by a liberal bias, as part of a feedback loop encompassing its corporate underwriters, connections to the Beltway establishment and the liberal leanings of much of its staff and audience.

    Such criticisms have grown in tone and number ever since NPR, in July 2022, launched its “Disinformation Reporting Team,” based on what NPR chooses to classify as “disinformation.”

    ENTIRE ARTICLE: “A Polish politician has blamed Ukraine for causing a “provocation” by falsely claiming its own missile that struck Przewodow had been fired by Russia. Immediately after news broke of the incident, President Zelensky called on NATO to take action against Russia, accusing Moscow of firing the rocket. However, within hours it became clear that the accident, which killed two people, was actually caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile.

    That didn’t stop British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, NATO and other prominent officials blaming Russia for the incident anyway, despite it clearly being Kiev’s fault. Now the former chairman of the city council of Lublin, the seat of the region where Przewodow is located, is calling for Poland to rethink its approach to the war in light of the incident. Having up until now been a staunch supporter of Ukraine, Jaroslaw Pakula said the missile accident showed Warsaw needed to send a blunt message to Kiev rather than telling its own citizens “fairy tales.”

    “Of course, this is a Ukrainian rocket. Of course, this is a provocation on the part of the Ukrainian authorities,” Pakula posted on his Facebook page.

    “The rocket could not be fired 100km in the opposite direction by mistake,” he added, asserting that the incident was an attempt to scare the EU into sending more money to Ukraine. Demanding that Warsaw should “no longer put up with this behavior” from Ukraine, Pakula remarked, “I urge you to rethink Poland’s position [regarding] this war in the event that the red line is crossed again!”

    Despite all evidence indicating the missile was fired by Ukraine, Zelensky has doubled down, denying that Kiev was involved and asking for his country to be at the forefront of an investigation. However, after President Joe Biden swiftly said the evidence for Russia’s involvement was minimal, CNN reported that Ukrainian military officials told their American and western allies that they were responsible for the blast. Kiev had “attempted to intercept a Russian missile” at the same location and in the same time france as when the missile strike at the Polish village of Przewowdow occurred, according to the report.

    The Associated Press also had to issue a retraction, noting that it had “erroneously” reported that “Russian missiles” had killed two people in Poland, and that this was based on a claim by one single anonymous senior US intelligence official. “Subsequent reporting showed that the missiles were Russian-made and most likely fired by Ukraine in defense against a Russian attack,” AP reported.

It’s excellent, enthralling, appalling, sickening, frightening. At least, it was 10 years ago when it came out. Now, under the harsh spotlight of the last few years, it’s all that and more; frankly, it’s terrifying.

    What a complacent fool I was when I read it for the first time. I sat in my armchair and tut-tutted my way through, shaking my head, wondering how on earth such monstrous crimes and summary executions could ever have eventuated as they did. Nothing like that would ever happen in my lifetime, let alone to me. There would be signs along the way, wouldn’t there, where we could correct any dangerous societal tendencies? Surely!

    Reading it now, the same awful patterns and reactions from that era are disturbingly recognisable in today’s society.

    In the following extract, Lyubov Shaporina describes in her diary how she felt about the way executions were discussed:

    ‘The nausea rises to my throat when I hear how calmly people can say it: He was shot, someone else was shot, shot, shot. The word is always in the air, it resonates through the air. People pronounce words completely calmly, as though they were saying “He went to the theatre.” I think that the real meaning of the word does not reach our consciousness – all we hear is the sound. We don’t have a mental image of those people actually dying under the bullets….the words ‘shot’ and ‘arrested’ don’t make the slightest impact on young people.” The faces of ordinary people standing in long lines are “dull faced, embittered, haggard.” “It is unbearable,” she wrote, “to live in the middle of it all. It’s like walking around a slaughter house, with the air saturated with the smell of blood and carrion.” (emphasis added)’

    How calmly now we observe the spate of heart attacks, strokes and deadly collapses all around us, in young people, athletes, and middle-aged, too young to die. A stroke, we say, a heart attack. How calmly and readily we adopt a new acronym, SADS. How calmly we note the push to get defibrillators on every street corner. How calmly we say sudden stage four cancer, how calmly we say all cause mortality and excess deaths are rising, and fertility falling. And how calmly we listen to our executioners ‘experts’ as they tell us to take a third, fourth, fifth, shot, shot, shot. Talk about a slaughterhouse.

    The whole world ‘suffered at the hands of its own rulers’ in the last few years. Melbourne certainly did. Perhaps not murder, but suffering for sure. It makes you wonder who, exactly, are our rulers? I dread to think what this experience has prepared us for. It sounds like an exam question 50 years from now : “The Great Terror is to WWII as the COVID era is to ???”

    There’s no doubt that there is a collective memory and response now hard-wired into once-democratic societies, those like the people of Melbourne who bounced and lurched from lockdown to lockdown to lockdown to lockdown to lockdown to lockdown. The auto-response is to lie down like a lamb and take what’s coming. We’ve been exposed as cowards. God help us next time.

That depends entirely on whether we heed the lessons of Russia, or whether we let ourselves fall into the cold embrace of totalitarianism.     Found this scrolling though comments on Zero Hedge. Supreme Ct to hear case involving 2020 election fraud, national security breach, violations of oath of office and touches on acts of treason. Fraud vitiates everything.

  35. so the shooter was NEVER charged last year despite his mom telling authorities he has a bomb,weapons and ammo–and could have been charged with 2 felonies which would have negated his ability to have guns? so they never charged him and now people are dead. who’s gonna bear that responsibility?

    About halfway through the article:

    The shooting comes one year after a 21-year-old man named Anderson Lee Aldrich was arrested for making a bomb threat in Colorado Springs. A woman told police at the time that her son had a homemade bomb, multiple weapons and ammunition. Nearly 10 homes were evacuated in the aftermath, KRDO reported at the time, but no bombs were found at the scene.

    Authorities said at the time that he initially refused to comply with deputy’s demands to surrender, but following a one-hour standoff he backed down. Aldrich was booked into the El Paso County Jail facing two counts of felony menacing and three counts of first-degree kidnapping.

    But Aldrich was never formally charged in the threat, and the case was dropped.
